The problem is that PvP is still in the early Alpha-cycle. Nothing is set (e.g. Removing tickets completely, QP’s for what?). We can say A-Net messed it up and they have not really a plan to change it in the right direction. What’s left are the people that never played PvP actively before. They have some fun left for it because they get some new gears and rewards. But for the others who started the game with pvp (all the guild-teams) theres no reward and no amibition at the moment, to continue playing active.
Ergo: You have not enough ppl for a seperation.

I think the script is programmed to pop up a window when you of salvaging rare items. And as PvP gear is classified as exotic the window will pop up.
Interesting would be the question, what you would get in exchange for selling at merchant? Because I’m bored too of salvaging all the reward chests. Now just let them unopen to avoid all the work with salvaging.

op is talking about premades playing with people who solo queue. a pug group of rank 40+ vs a premade team r40+ are not at all on the same level. the difference in communication is enormous. that is why there should be a solo queue.

why is everyone ignoring the fact that rank means nothing in mmr? tell me, why?

Your idea is right. But the game provides no real indicator of skill. So the only thing that can be seen is the rank. Ergo: A-Net had missed to implement an early ladder.

Since they removed paid tournaments, theres absolutely no competition left in this game. There’s no reward to be “good” (no QP, no gems, no visible rating). Just some chests where ppl had collected all pieces months ago.
On EU-Servers, not solo-Q, we wait about 5-40 Minutes for 8-team tournament, 1v1 is instant to a few minutes. And then you face random teams… Boring.

I appreciate the matchmaking in Paid Tournaments. You get groups on the same level as you are, so the competition is high there.
My problem here is your system behind it. After a match, normally both teams will create a roster again and submit. So both teams will submit on the same time and will face each other again. Sometimes it happens we get the same team for 3 to 5 times in a row.

I’d like to play against different teams. For this it would be nice to implement a restriction to face a team NOT two times in a row.

Seed you just get conditioned out. You have no real dmg, just knocks. So blinds and stability will just kick you. You have no real heal (3.5k is nothing). You have actually no movement (only bulls). Hard to exit a combat.

Ye you’re absolutely right. But a warrior has standard specced a shield-stance and endurepain to avoid bursts. So compared to an ele, a warrior has to time these 2 def-abilities perfectly and there is the problem. Failing on these 2 skillz is fatal. As ele you have mistform (compared to endure pain), you have 2 heal-skillz (water) some blinds, RTL and dodge-rolls healing up to 2k (amulet based, + other effects trait based). Besides that you have still place for armor of earth or other utilities. A warrior there needs to have bulls-charge/frenzy. So you are limited there.
Besides this things the big problem for warriors are the conditions. Even with mending you have only one condition remove. That’s absolutely poor. If you get crippled or chilled you have allrdy lost.

The most common “point controllers” are mesmers (because you can easily portal back) or rangers (strong in 1v1 and tanky enough), mabye you can put in here a D/D ele.

The bunkers are Guardian and S/D Eles. (Why? Because everything is specced on surviving)

If you want to fight hard teams arrange matches on your own and train together.
Now if you really want progression at same time on the flawed qp ladder system thats your problem.
What there is now is better than before even without matchmaking and if you cant see it then you probably are stuck with..elitism :P

(And btw im pretty sure that if anet wanted testing of the new map being done only by onibawan,tp,cn etc and all the current qp dominant teams im pretty sure they would have contacted you directly :P.. maybe you need to come down to earth a bit..)

@lordrosicky: I hope that was sarcasm. Guildwars2 PvP contains all players of the world that decide to play paid tournaments. I’m really sorry to say that but then it’s the false game for you. Allrdy in GW1 to be competitive enough you had to have a voice-chat. I don’t wanna say ppl that haven’t much time to spend into GW2, shouldn’t be able to play on a competitive platform, but this is how it goes in every game. And I actually don’t wanna play against a random team as in free-tournaments. I prefer hard matches instead of free wins.

And then again, I´m really sorry to tell you that you are wrong.

Voice chat was not needed to win hall of heroes, neither a gvg top match.
Show me a “match” between your guild and a another top guild where no voice-chat was used? ye you can sync. There you didn’t need it.

There you have it. “Random”. And don’t compare TA to paid. Because you play a deathmatch, not a tactical high pvp-mode.

And I say this because I have the personal experience from it, since I was Glad 9 Champ 2 in old gw1.
Glad-Rank compare with Rank in GW2. as hotjoin farming.

In league of legends you don´t need a voice chat to be competitive in high elo solo queue.
In high-end you need it.

In Guild Wars 2 you don´t need voice chat to win free & paid tournaments, as I from personal experience have done multiple times before.
Show me a match where you won with ts. If yes, then you were just lucky.

Synthesizing: There needs to be an option to enter paid tournament on your own if you feel you want to, since it is at your own risk, it does not damages anyone and enriches the game experience and options for casual and hardcore gamers.
It damages (without matchmaking) the competitive scene.

Remember not everyone can hold a fixed daily timeframe to train with a team because of social life, and that should not be an excuse to get him out of the fun part of PvP.

Look for a group in map-chat. Paid-Tournament belongs to organized team. Most of the teams in paid are allrdy not competitive enough. Don’t want to see this mode to get even less competitive. So if you wanna play, go free as ppl said.

Easy: It’s not balanced enough and I doubt it will ever be. To bring up this dueling system you need big restrictions (utilities,runes) or weekly/daily changes (w/e) to avoid the “one build wonder”.

I think, we should change some things:

Hotjoins – idk, i dont play it
Free – (remove option to join a team u can add option matchmaiking, but better not, because its can be good place where good pple can play with bad, but they cant face teams, only other 5 random players) Rewards glory, chest should enough.
1vs1 – free to play, only teams, matchmaking (win/lost) – free to play, reward glory, chest, ticket.
Daily at – max 20 guilds only(if will be more it should create new group), to register u need to pay tickets(it can be 5 ticket price), 5 round max. no matchmaking, all teams play 5 rounds, winner vs winner, loser vs loser etc. Reward – for 5 first team qp(5th -1qp, 4th – 2qp, 3th – 3, 2nd – 4, 1st – 5), For four first teams gems and chests, glory(to be honest its not need anybody care about this after many tournaments).

Weekly at – need some number of qp to play(after weekly tournament u lost all qp), first 5 teams qualify to monthly tournament, more gems etc.(if actually 5 teams qualified earier, then next teams from 6th etc.

And monthly top teams, u can make big tournament(with top teams) and stop dream about esport and do it finally.

Similar to GW1 swiss-system. I think they will implement such a thing, because QP’s are a entry fee as tickets nowadays are. Otherwise they wouldn’t contain the word “Qualifying” in its name. The only thing i would add is the 1v1 paid with matchmaking, where you have to pay QP’’s to qeue up. So you get a system where top teams can face each other (sure with match-making/ladder system).

Tournament strategies

Tactics:
Send Ele and Guard to far point. When there are 3 or more opponents take the zerg with the 2 bunkers. (The idea here is to not let them cap their close point and to push them for sending ppl there to get it) If 2 or less, send the guard back to top.

Necro takes mid till guard arrives. If the guard has to stay far point because 3 opponents there, the necro tank mid. You should not diying against a bunker there. If you get another opponent to mid (lets say thief or necro) You will get support from your other two teammates. In this scenario you will face on far point the 2v3 (ele,guard) and on mid the 3v2 (mesmer,thief,necro).

The other “two teammates”: akka mesmer and thief. They make sure to defend the close point if opponents are pushing it. If you face the ele, burst him down. If you face 2 ppl you send the necro back to close.
The idea here is, if they send 2 ppl to your close point you will either face 3 on the far point or 2 on far point and 1 in mid or 2 in mid and 1 on far point.
As in this scenario a guard can hold 2 opponents and the ele can hold 2 opponents (not forever). you can outnumber them on your close point and then do the push with timewarp on top.
Not mentioned: the 3 opponent push on your close point. Actually that was in the first weeks a common tactic, which has lost its value these days. If you still face the 3 man push, this end in a 3v3. But rarely happens. And lot of ppl will follow the ele as they see him pushing on theire far point.

Edit: If you win the match on mid you send the guard near the far point to support your ele. the necro stays top and the mesmer will spec backdoor with thief to avoid a push to henge.

These are “static” tactics. So most of the time you need (especially the thief here) players initiative to push where they can do the most. And sure it’s everything about talking where opponents are, to rotate better.

1. The content is little, agree. The balance is pretty good though. (Mabye you disagree and say op thief,mesmer,ele,bunker or engineer,warrior too weak). But in the combat-system it work out well. Saying you can reach a competitive level where each class has his own job.

so doesnt seem like this brought many people back, just made those still here a little happier, was queued for free tourney this morning for 45 min and no pop :/

The reason because this is happening, could be the seperated server-regions between NA and EU. In GW1 there were all put together. So you got all the time matches. Now if you wanna play after 2 am or during the morning you probably get no teams, because there is no ppl from Asia or America that fill this time-space.

Is it because you enjoy mindlessly zerging around in hot-join? Some players do enjoy being rewarded for play which does not result in wins for their teams. And ArenaNet presumably encourages this, considering their point system remains unchanged to any degree.

It’s not very many, though, judging from the number of people participating in sPvP.

Personally, I’m bored as [kitten] of it. Tournaments can be fun, but who wants to play competitively all the time? There is no casual play in this game. It’s competitive or complete garbage. And when talking competitively, there are some balance and mechanics issues that could use some attention.

But if you enjoy rolling around randomly in hot join without regard for winning a match, sure. There’s certainly some of you guys having fun with that. But there’s a lot of people who don’t enjoy that.

Hot-join is the casual aspect of sPvP right now. Some parts of WvW can be casual pvp as well (on some servers).

I am a generally competitive player and I spend a good amount of time in free tournies and some paids. I almost always go in with a premade team of like-minded folks who play to win. That is the competitive nature of sPvP. I enjoy super-competitive tournies and the more casual hot-join at this time.

Honestly, the balance in this game is pretty good imho. Sure tweaks etc are needed but the core gameplay is there and functional. I am not in the super elite in sPvP and I am reminded frequently about how much I do not know about different class combos as I frequently get my kitten handed to me.

So, I think many cries about “bad balance” can be taken with a grain of salt. sPvP does not have an “easymode”. Progression and success is very difficult and you need to work for it.

(yes I know there are some balance tweaks need to be made but I don’t think any class is broken etc.)

It’s too late for it now… Well not for the ranking system you brought up, but for the general combat/modi system. Because the game will never make a death-match work as seen in HA and in the 7v7 GvG-maps (eg druids) BTW: The pvp-Team for GW2 is not the same one, as for GW1.

@Shakuras: I know your name and HSR. I was playing in c-ranked guilds too some years back. I appreciated pretty everything in GW1 pvp besides codex in the end. Sure I would pretty much taking everything from it to patch it to gw2, but i don’t think a-net will do this.

There are a few topics about the same problem. Smn mentioned recently to introduce legendary weapons for pvp, which could be bought by glory. Let’s say you make 500.000 for a legendary weapon. You have a goal where you can spend your glory to. For e.g. from Rank 50 to Rank 60 you will make 825.000 Rank-Points. With glory boosters it would be about 1.200.000. So you can buy 2 legendary weapons (or whatever you want) with it. So there’s the sense of farming the tons of glory you have to, for emote-up

Fact: Good teams will stay on a ratio over 50% wins, even when they fight good teams. And when they loose they will fall down from mabye 80% wins to 75%. If this keeps going till they reach lets say 70% where now the average teams come up from, they will sure win against the other 70% ration “average” team. So they move up again.

The problem you mabye have with, is that the ratio will start with low numbers where every win or loose will catapult you on top or smash you to the ground of the ladder. And with time when you reach 1000 games it will be harder to get up in this ratio.
So the only fix this system needs is that you make a pool of the latest 100 games you played. So when you play a match again, the oldest match will fall out of that statistic and this new match will take over the place. Short: Newest in pool and oldest out of pool.

I have to write sth about matchmaking:

First fight beetween rank vs rank is the most stupid idea i even hear, Im gonna explane why now:

First we have tP (team with guy on ~6 rank lvl, ele on 35 lvl etc) So who they got oponent on their lvl? OFC not. So its stupid to let them farm worst players and sec thing, sup with pple who spend whole life on farmin custom arenas, now they think they are pro, because they have r40-50 and they will farm for top teams, great idea let waste more pple in spvp, because after last troll update all pple gonna play again this game and they are not laugh from last update.

So how to create a good match making:

WINS/LOST should be main thing for ladder. So im winning Im getting better rank and face batter pple, my rank grow so oponent lvl will be higer to. So basicly team who is losing with rank even 60+ will face teams who are losing matches to. The same how it was in gw1.

I wrote about this month ago and dont make another stupid thing, like match making where the most important thing is rank!.

Agree, an easier way would be counting QP. But win/loose ratio is the most representing virtue that is available.

Paids (not the new 1v1 system) are only valuable to the 2nd and 1st place based on the rewards. That’s the problem why not “competitive teams” struggle with it. It’s a business backwards, so teams from 3th to 8th place will have a constant decrease of tickets.

I’m sitting on “only” 200k. But there has to happen something. Like to make glory something worth. So people are like. I wanna earn glory because I can buy these and that. And now it’s like a big “?”. Especially when you rank up in emote. After bear you will earn 825k of rank-points and with boosters about 1.200.000 glory.

Good point there. Actually thanks for this input.
But it shouldn’t be a open arena like tournaments. They should make it for test-weeks after updates to improve balanced. Well if it’s ranger or elementalist, this is the point of view/skill or w/e)

True. You need something valuable to spend your glory. Simlar to GW1. I wouldn’t set gems in trade for glory. But mabye things like keys to open a chest or special-items/armors.

Not sure what there is to test? You need to test every single runes/utilitiy-combinations to avoid certain class structures as Scepter / Dagger Ele and stuff like that. Because if you implement the 1v1 system without these restricions there will only be one build in there, which is the most competitive one.

Adapting Heart of the mists to a dueling arena is never gonna happen. Can’t imagine ppl are fighting all over the place…
