I think atm it is 4 gold for 200 gems (approximately) so it would be pretty bad for spvp players (who the custom arenas are really aimed at) to afford consistently over a long period of time

Having said that we may be jumping the gun a bit who knows Anet may surprise us by allowing us to get them via glory or through tourney chests or w/e

They’ve already surprised me as i expected CA to appear in 2016.

Go with your 5man team on 1 CoF run (10mins) and u get more than 4g… not such a big deal, its not perfect to force ppl into pve but its done pretty fast tough

Sure it’s not a big deal. Still forcing ppl into pve (if they don’t wanna do it) isn’t a good step. This is another reason why PvP stays a mess by removin the only thing that was worth something, the gems. And in the next step implementing a feature that requires them. Any sense?

That’s an absolutely horrible idea. Time warp is more than worth it on sw.

That is just what I saw in the last matches. And ye, it’s not that effective.

Timewarp is amazing, especially for the initial fight + the orb capture, even the good teams we played against we got the node within 2 or 3 seconds of getting to the altar. You can capture it inbetween staff attacks and if your team controls right the aoe won’t be down to stop you (or they have no necro).

I meant moa morph isn’t that effective. Fault on my side.

How ironic. You know, Karl didn’t become a dev in one of the top game design companies just because of his beautiful ponytail hair. Chances are you have no idea how to right code, how to think on balance changes and it’s impact and you’re precisely criticising what you don’t understand.
I don’t get all this hate on the guy just because he was weird on sotg, maybe he was just nervous and didn’t get his ideas across well enough who knows, but if he’s the one responsible for balance tweeks its because he has the qualifications for it. It’s easy to call someone brainless when all you have to do in this game is enjoy it and go “BOOOO this sucks you brainless” when you don’t like something.

Mabye he is over-intelligent and super educated, mabye a genius in his area. The problem is we can only judge from the sotg and the actual balance that is happening. And what we see are 3 ppl on a screen searching for excuses because nothing is developed in time.
It’s clear that they are understaffed for pvp and trying to get e-sports (in this incomplete beta-state a nice joke) is for like 5 ppl just toooooo much to handle. For me it’s a fact: Get more ppl working on pvp (outsourcing, temporarily hire), get all the basics (wanted features = see the forum with tons of suggestions) and implement them into the game. Then you can let your 5 ppl make these features perfect. This would need like 3 months and you have a nice PvP and ppl that actually play it.

Sadly, we all know what the chances are for any of those things actually getting some dev recognition.

Furthermore, on the complaint regarding ranks having too high a requirement for cosmetics alone…GW1 had no rewards from rank acquisition, or in other words – the rank itself was your reward, because ranks were, for the most part, a sign of prestige, skill and therefore often a target of admiration (back when they were actually hard to attain, that is). By making the sole pvp rank easily attainable from formats such as hotjoin (which can even be manipulated massively), GW2 completely trivialized the pvp rank, so they have as much ‘worth’ as any random pve rank you come across. Be glad you at least get free cosmetics from that excuse of a ranking system to start with.

Its because GW2 rank is like if you would make Balthazar Faction rank in GW1. It doesn’t really make sense because you get rewarded even if you lose, thats why all these hot join heroes simply grind points not caring about team strategy and winning. GW1 ranks required winning fights and/or chaining your victories. I don’t understant why there is only 1 tier of champion titles (that gives you title).

As many ppl said earlier. A totally messed ranking and title system for pvp.

So like signing in your names on a board.
I think a bit too complicated having more than 10 leaderboards. Because soloquers will complain about a soloq ladder etc. etc.
Guilds will complain about a guild-ladder for more prestige etc. etc.
It’s really hard to do such a stuff and don’t expect it from a developer that isn’t able to implement such easy things as randomized map-rotation in tournaments.

Not really, every good PvP game normalizes gear (MOBAs, RTS, FPS, etc), that they removed the gear differences is one of the things they got right, because it puts the emphasis on skill, of course this is bad news for those who have been bitten by Pavlov’s dogs or kids that like to faceroll opposition that can’t fight back due to gear differences, good news for anyone that actually likes to PvP.

I’m talking about the skin not the stats of the gear. That should be clear actually. For stats differences we have WvW zergfests. But thanks again for coming up with useless unconstructive posts.

Then perhaps learn to write more clearly rather than expecting people to read your mind, then throwing your toys out of your pram when they fail to do that – “no differences between ppl (gear, rank etc.).” is ambiguous.

Guild’s shouldn’t have anything to do with team rankings. You could create a team called … whatever you want, and have 5 members representing 5 different guilds in there.

If every member of your team is from the same guild, well, you can put the name/logo of your guild in there.

Teamranking won’t work in any game. EG someone of your team goes to holidays and can’t play 2 weeks. You will stuck on the same rating during this time? As you need another player to fill up your team, mabye you get another rating for this team?
So what’t the matter opening a guild with these 5 players and have it in the guild-ladder…
Tell me if I missunderstood your post and explain me how it would work exactly.

The problem is having 10 guilds playing competitive pvp, won’t really give a guild/team-ladder any sense. If they mabye get out of the actual alpha/beta-state and reach a release-state (mabye in 2014), then it’s time for guild-ladder as hopefully by then more ppl play it.

Hotjoin is indeed absolutely terrible, however given that for many people the other choice is solo/duo queuing for a tournie with the prospect of facing pre-mades (or being stuck on a team with people of vastly different experience) that is equally terrible, just in a different way, which I guess is why many of us are doing neither.

Anyway in regard to the OP, yes given the way some peolpe use the hotjoin servers it would seem sensible to adjust where they send someone who clicks the join button. But they will never solve the problem completely, once I entered a 15/16 server and it was being used for duelling!

You seem to be confusing a computer game kids can play and that some of the dumbest people on the planet can be good at, with designing and constructing the LHC at CERN.

To all proffessors here: I compared hotjoin with tpvp, which means the difference is huge. That’s why I overstated it. Anyway thanks for your advice that kids can play this game.

Well, yeah, come to think of it, you’re right. LOL

But I’m pretty sure what devs thought was that burst can now have some sort of role in this map trying to bring down the enemy orb carrier fast before reaching a node. I haven’t played much SW tourneys so I dunno. :P

The problem is the bunker-way. Even when 3 ppl sit on you, you can get easy support through the other bunkers. It’s nearly impossible to get the orb runner.

Pro-Tip 2: Don’t stay in hot joins long, get in there, learn your moves and some basic fighting tactics and GTFO. It’s a cesspool and you will learn terrible habits.

It’s like saying to an obese person, stop eating cookies. It’s unhealthy.
Hotjoin attracts that much ppl, because it’s easy, need no brain and less skill. The reward for this is immense (300+ point every match). Compare it to a tournament now.
It’s hard, needs lot of brain, more skill. Chance of loosing and lesser rewards.

I’m not crying. Please don’t cry when someone else makes a valid point other than your own.

Moving onto my point:

Bunkers have already been nerfed over and over again the past 4 months. If you actually played this game for more than 2 weeks, you would know how OP bunkers actually WERE.
Bunker guardians atm, are good where they’re at. Elementalists tankiness is a little much, but they lack the amount of CC/Utility/Stomping/Resing Power that a bunker gaurdian has…

All I see is a person supporting the class that they play. This same argument is going to happen for bunkers or burst. Even IF they were broken, you’d still have people saying they are fine. I see no reason to take your “point” into consideration.

-Again, you are just upset that I suggested we tone down the pure defensive end of the spectrum.(even though I also suggested burst be toned down as well, which would essentially leave you at the same state).

My point: Bunkers and burst need to be toned down. Please don’t be openly biased towards one over the other.

All I see is a person that can’t handle another opinion from an obviously more expierenced player. The actual bunker/burst state needs some little tweeks but clearly not to be toned down.

yea i thought of that, and it would be a big problem. possible solution may be to split up team and get in front of them, knock them off the ledges, split the team in 2 and attempt to spike the ele when it’s alone. but you’re right it’s all just wishful thinking.

Yep, it’s harder to develop features and new game modes than the most ppl think. Btw: 4 guards = 4 x stand your ground = 4×6 sec stability = 24 sec. Recast on SyG = 24 sec (if traited). So it’s even a bigger mess if you start to specify it

In competitive play (TPvP) the glory/rank-points earned during a match doesn’t matter at all. It’s gonna be a problem in hotjoin as you could go together on a empty server sitting on a point and go afk to do some other stuff.

im not talking about hotjoins, i’m talking about organized teams. 1 guy carries the orb, rest of his team works to keep the other team cced, and removed conditions (chill, immob, cripple) from their orb carrier. hammer warriors suddenly useful. rifle engineers suddenly useful. guardians can spec more offensively. etc. game becomes less about roam vs bunker, and more about cc, defending your team, supporting your carrier, moving as a single unit, coordinating spikes to get rid of enemies that are causing problems, etc.

Thanks for pointing this out. It sounds pretty cool. The problem with things like that is without testing or seeing it in real-play you never know how it will be in the end. So saying we see hammer-wars and rifle engineers is just a wish you have.

Corrupt boon / epidemic is getting less and less viable, due to team-based condition-removes (eg. water-attuenement, shout-guard with soldier-runes). What I would play is wells, for boons-into-conditions. It’s not only on one target. As the necro is a dedicated teamfighter and will often act in teamfights, wells are on top. Corrupt boon is viable for taking out single classes faster.

False as usual. The build based around wells does not fit well at all into a condition build and the traits means that the whole build kind of doesnt make sense. Corrupt boon and epidemic is by far the best necro build.

Wells are perfect for a condition build. I think you just not tried yet, but saying my statement is false, tells me you played since release just one build. W/E i won’t discuss this any further with ppl that refuse to accept different meanings.

i do understand how to use the portal perfect and that is probably the only thing keeping me from going ranger. its just so frustrating that portal is what makes a mesmer anything. i would rather get class buffs and lose portal to be honest because portal just isnt worth being so bad.

remember im not looking at this from my POV but from every other mesmer i see in the game. when we see another mesmer we just laugh and it shouldnt be that way. i want to fear every class.

The good thing about being mesmer is that not many ppl have a clue about all mechanics of it, this is why some ppl here would rate the mesmer higher.

A 5v5 is not more than zerging in hotjoin, just organized and with VOIP. So no need for any tactics beside who you target first (the guy with the orb). Mabye you can explain a bit more detailed what you expect from this game-mode, so I can get a view of how you imagine as it would be?

idea for new game mode I hope we can do with custom arenas:
spiritwatch, turn nodes off, each orb cap worth 100 pts. (aka ctf)
jesus that sounds awesome.
then we would actually see real teamplay.
edit: turn off scores for kills, etc as well?

Actually not. that would just force you into one thing you have to concentrate the whole game. You need several objectives to make the match dynamic and not only focused on one thing.

Right,

people need to understand that one of Arenanet goal with this PvP is to make it into an e-sport. The game mode is pretty good for an e-sport as it is easy to understand, tactical and very fast paced. Also most e-sports around only have 1 real game mode so I don’t see why having one game mode is a problem! Also please play the game with a team if you do not already, find some people to play with and you will see how fun and tactical this gamemode is. But yes ele at the moment is kind of ruining the game a little right now, making it far to hard to take a point and with very little skill, once this is fixed and ladders are added this game will be so sweet!

Because every other game that IS an esport does have other game modes in variation at the very least.

Seriously, none of the esport games have just ONE game mode.

Never heard of counter-strike?

Counter-strike modes: de – plant-defuse the bomb in A or B, this is a mode that is played competitively, cs – rescue the hostages from t spawn and bring to ct spawn, dm – played either with a team or ffa type, not talking about different modes all together where shooting is not the main aspect of the game: hns, surf, jail, etc. Also even de is played by different rules, or “modes” mr12, mr15. So have you heard of counter-strike?

Ontopic – I agree with everything OP said, since this game is so lacking in variety it is insane that they think this is the way to go to create an esport. Esport is not created by developers it is created by the players, since there needs to be an interest not only to play, but to watch and watching a dude stand in one spot for entire map isn’t as interesting as they probably think…

Counter-Strike on the E-Sport Level only allow playing bomb-planting. Hostage, surfing and other stuff is played by casuals (compare it to hotjoin) and is not in E-Sports. Please inform youself before posting. Thanks

Please stop posting here when you have no idea what bunkering means. You think ele bunkers are better because he rtl away heals up and go on the node again? But that’s NOT bunkering.
E.G. a thieves trys to burst you, a good ele will mistform instantly. ERGO: 3 seconds of decapping. A guardian on the otherside will just stunbreak and shelter without even loosing cap-points.
Another example is blocking. Ele’s have no ability to block if played on cantrips. Ele’s can only dodge (and rarely blind). Guardians can dodge the same amount, but have lots of blocks. And to dps specced classes a block is worth at least 2k-5k health.

Absolutely no sense. . As I have capped the point as bunker I go outside of the node and position in a good spot to have a better look on the rest of the map. So now I don’t get points because I watch where the enemy is. Also this would provide another bad habbit to hotjoin.

Guardian can usually survive a bit more than ele…but for sure ele has an indecent mobility for being a bunker…so for a tpvp situation ele is probably the best since the other team can just ignore the point with you guardian and they can fight 4vs5 on the other 2…ele can still cover another point if needed (Or go contest even 1vs2 and usually decap far side) and come back in no time. Let’s say if i have to run with one bunker and have to chose between ele or guardian i would probably take an ele..

In the aspect of bunkering (ignore rtl) guardian is obviously better. He can constantly stay on the node, which ele can’t that hard due to no blocks. Another op thing is rezzing with guard (knockback if traited). No other class can rezz that good. Also a guard has more often acess to stability and blocks which makes it easier to stay on the point against knockbacks etc.
In the whole view considering also mobility and dmg, the ele shines out.

Right,

people need to understand that one of Arenanet goal with this PvP is to make it into an e-sport. The game mode is pretty good for an e-sport as it is easy to understand, tactical and very fast paced. Also most e-sports around only have 1 real game mode so I don’t see why having one game mode is a problem! Also please play the game with a team if you do not already, find some people to play with and you will see how fun and tactical this gamemode is. But yes ele at the moment is kind of ruining the game a little right now, making it far to hard to take a point and with very little skill, once this is fixed and ladders are added this game will be so sweet!

Because every other game that IS an esport does have other game modes in variation at the very least.

Seriously, none of the esport games have just ONE game mode.

That’s the reason why for me, Temple is atm the best map, due to the buffs can change the whole game. Also it’s not so focused on the nodes.

DPS-Guardians can easily one-shot unwarily thieves. As many ppl expect guards to be bunkers. As we also have a dps guardian in our setup I can tell you this build is pretty on top.

Corrupt boon / epidemic is getting less and less viable, due to team-based condition-removes (eg. water-attuenement, shout-guard with soldier-runes). What I would play is wells, for boons-into-conditions. It’s not only on one target. As the necro is a dedicated teamfighter and will often act in teamfights, wells are on top. Corrupt boon is viable for taking out single classes faster.

I’m not even playing mesmer and I know more than you about it?
Focus is the best off-hand for a mesmer. It’s a free shatter, if the other person hasn’t stability up. Mabye ask some real-mesmers to help you out, or watch guides.

Yes I play ranger and mesmer both need a slight nerf though but I like the styles of play.
The refuge is often popped out of sight though : / so u have no idea they are even there until dink dink dink dead.

Mabye use your focus and pull him out of the refuge + shatter and he’s dead. What’s so hard about it?

People are allowed to be sarcastic if they want to be and just because the joke rings true doesn’t mean you can tell me to leave. The fact you are even slightly irritated at the joke shows how true it is, which is sad. The balance is the fact and cause of this sPvP being so empty. Be glad that I am even here and a part of the 2,000 people community that remains in sPvP or even looks at it forums.

PPl don’t leave because they have the feeling, this game is unbalanced. The reason is after 7 month we still have quite the same features (3-round, newer 1-round tournaments) and nothing more. ERGO: it’s the lack of features (ladder, observe-mod, custom-arena, bigger tournaments etc.).
