If the feb/march update will succeed as this one did, then this game has a good chance (in terms of pvp) to get really big.
I like it too as I can enter paid without hesitation even with randoms, because it costs 1 ticket and you’ll get instant match-up. So there is more space left for not premades. It’s a big step to get more ppl into it that are bored of zerging.

As we seen in guildwars 1. Big changes in class-balanced always generated absurd meta’s (Dervish update, Mesmer-Spike, Invoke-Spike etc.). I pretty like the actual balance, beside some changes as they allrdy mentioned on their own (portal, ele-buffs).
The good thing with little changes is that you can adjust them easier if something does bug or has too much advantage. So in the actual situation it’s an effective strategy to spend the ressources where they should be in. (implementing new modes)
Well as engineer you have certain things to remove conditions easily. Utilities/F-Skillz: Cleansing Burst, Toss Elixir R, Elixir C. On Traits you have Transmute, Automated Response. As a engineer you have at least the cleansing burst. If have problems with conditions then take in elixir C as additional support. With traits…well there’s more the problem.
Back to the topic: I wouldn’t implement such things. Boon removal is the necro’s strenght and should stay on this class primary.
Easy: Go play on the official server: you will see soon as a not hard-core player that you will find yourself farming free tournaments after some paid matches, because of the lack of tickets. (well no problem with the 5 tickets for 3round).
And for 1 match 3 tickets to get 1QP? You don’t need to be a genius to find out that this would never work out. I mean look at the forum posts… even top-players raged out. Good they corrected the fee now.
Nice and fast correction of the entry fee. Still it’s not necessary to provoke that rage on this forum. Next time just use a calculator for your updates (3-round = 5tickets, good rewards / 1-round = 3 tickets, no reward).
I’m really excited now for the forthcoming big patch on feb/march. If you can keep up the good output (besides entry fee) I think this game has a second chance to reach a high quality in pvp.
If they would pay attention: on lots of forum posts ppl said 5 tickets for 3round tournaments are too much for not-hardcore players. And then they come to the absurd idead of 3 tickets for one match with no rewards beside 1 QP.
If they would actually “test” their own game, they would never implement such a thing.
Mabye a-net should hire a guy that plays the game and based on the feedback, you do your cost/reward-system.
Mabye they see ppl raging in Forums and decided to say it’s a bug…

I think acandis brings it up to the point. A ladder ranking as in GW1 would change alot.
Resume: Split tPvP in:
-Free tournament (only solo, mabye duo qeue)
-Free tournament (only premades)
-Paid tournament (only premades)
For a faster fix plan B:
Reduce entry fee for paids to 3 and lower rewards. Would be lot easier for not hardcore players to participate more often and not have to stomp randoms in free’s to get tickets.
1. Well if you don’t have short fingers it’s pretty easy to catch 1-5. I actually never realized that you can’t change 1-5. At least you can change the rest :/
2. Totally agree. What now ppl focus are the animations you are doing for specific skillz: like healing skillz to interupt it and other important skillz. If you want to get better in this, just play every class till you know all the important animations. That helps alot.
3. That’s the same like utilies which you also can’t change anymore. Don’t get why it was necessary to do that. A-net prolly want to get stability in the game, which makes it in my eyes even more static.

On the other side: ( don’t want to defend a-net at all) but at the moment it seems like they have no ressources left for this. Wether it’s true or not, they really have to catch up the backwardness in aspect of pvp.
Just gain experience on dueling mesmers. It’s pretty easy to catch the real one. Besides shatter he won’t do loads of dmg. And the rangers pet need defenitely a decreased range of following someone. there I agree with you.

Interesting topic you bring up:
-First I would take Ele and Ranger out of the list. Because the dmg from a ranger and his pet is enough on a single player. Removing boons would cause to kill a bunker-guard in a 1v1 easily. And the ele: Well don’t think we need to discuss this thing. He allrdy has enough dmg + survivability.
-What would be good if the warrior had acces to boon removal.
As boons are really important and a big issue for every class (except the warrior mabye
) I would be really careful to give such strong abilites to all classes. Because every class will drop faster in a 1v1. So there would be really fast fights though.
A-net will take a closer look to elementalist and his buffs. I think they will reduce his abilites. So don’t worry about being farmed till 2020 against ele-teams. And I pretty like that a class is able to hold (not forever and there’s the point) against 2 players. Because without bunker the thief would be able to get points pretty easy, as killing would be easier.
Accept the “Balance” as it is. It could be worse. I pretty like the actual class-situation (except ele, who will be nerfed soon). By the way: a-net can see all the threads and some they read. But in this forum where 50% is just no-sens about QQ and fixing classes because they’re OP, there’s a little chance they will. Time to bring a thread that will bring this game forward.
To problem 2: I don’t get why they took out the skill-activating bar. Where in gw1 you could see, which skillz he used and based on that you could interrupt etc. For example the ranger with mel-shot to avoid cripple…
to the topic:
-Pvp-Events similar to GW1 (double fame WE etc.)
-lower entry fee for paids to 3 tickets (sure lower rewards with it)
-get a soloqeue for free tournament where only random teams and not premades are playing. So it would be easier for beginners to have fun and reach something instead of getting stomped in tha last map by premades.
-put in free tournament where only premades are, so you can learn as a average core-team and have a competitive level. (Good practice for teams to reach a “paid” level)
-besides matchmaking (based on rank/QP or w/e), a guild ladder similar to GW1 where you’re guild has more worth and get better known.
-Alliance system (as in GW1) where guilds with similar levels can connect with each other as a community and not being on 4 guilds seperated.
-last: put the servers together to get heart of the mist full and not only full in the pvp-server (Desolation, Anvil Rock), because beginners don’t know where the big crowd of pvp is. So the LFG function would make sense.

Just lowering the entry fee to 3 or 2 tickets and you will have a bigger community in paids. So good teams don’t need to stomp beginners in free.

If you reach a higher level of competition (paid 2nd or 3rd round) and not zerging in hotjoin, you will soon understand why a-net won’t nerf thief. Because he is not OP in any way. He has his strenghts but also big lacks. Actually thief is in my opinion the hardest class to play.
If you get one-shoted by a thief: you are playing a thief or you’re just bad/ or had no stundbreaker w/e to survive.
What I see is a bad guardian. Back to the OP topic: A-net said they will take a closer look to the mechanics of ele and his buffs, for thief is nothing mentioned because he is not considered to be OP. As soon as you reach a high level in tournaments (paid 2nd, 3th round) you will understand why a thief needs no nerfs. Actually it’s from my point of view the hardest job to avoid diying. Because it’s much easier to counter a thief in an organized team / 5v5 then in a zerg where you have 5 ppl on you.
Well, kinda right. We will play with 2 mesmers, thief, ele, guard. But they announced to bring portals for other classes, so I would wait for the big update next month.
I would say a invis – thief with quickness caps way faster and more effective than a mesmer will do.

Well you make your own argument invalid with your sentences:
- it’s perfectly acceptable for a guardian to “hold out” a bit longer against two players but eventually they should fall
- It’s not ok for a bunker ele to require two players to take them down and dish out heavy damage/knockbacks etc. at the same time.
A guard as you say will definetly drop against 2 dmg dealer. It’s just a matter how long they need.

For the thief: Just wait till he has no stealth. Done. I don’t get the point that you need to follow a thief with 2 ppl? As you see you take 2 bunkers in your list, what’s the point of a thief to burst then but can’t kill anyway? If you have 2 ppl against a thief, how is he able to cap? Never ever sir.
So what you say is that these classes don’t die in a 1v1 but will die in a 2v1. Where’s the point here then?

this game doesnt need anet to waste time making a dueling system when we can go into servers and duel we need them putting in a 1 team v 1 team ranked system with all 5 maps on rotations.
completely right. A-net has much bigger issues to fix than 1v1 dueling arena. Do the same as sataarcoeny said and join one of the hundred empty servers.
If they bring matchmaking with it (eg. comparing of ranks and especially QP’s) I think it will be pretty successful over time. Because you get teams together on the same level. Needs defenitely time so everyone see how much better this will be, especially for casual-players.
I like the idea of the weekly tournament. I wouldn’t do it during 7 days, I would do it in one day. Because it’s hard to play every day for the most ppl.
What i have fear from is the rewards. It would be the same as in paids, just with higher rewards. Becaus you have the 4-5 topteams who will farm the top places and then you have the average-casual players who will loose defenitely. I would wait with these weekly tournaments and focus on the guild modus (1v1) with a ladder and matchmaking. So you get more guilds/teams into pvp who play together and reach a higher level with time.
This weekly tournament will be genius, but you need a big guild/coreteam pool to get it interesting. Let’s say 32 teams in it. It would be easier to get some wins for the casual one as not fighting every match against a top-team.
What I see now is mabye 8 core teams and some random-grpped teams qeue up for paids and wait. Especially during the day or after midnight, paid is dead. So first you need to get paid lively with more competitive guilds.

It will be a lesser reward. They should give the team who lost a copper chest (similar to 5-8th place) and the winner get gold-chest with reduced reward (20 gems + 1 QP or smthin like that).
Defenitely interesting in how the match will be played in the tactical aspect, as it gets more complex with the 4 buffs appearing and the long range between nodes.

We’ve ran warrior the past few days and we’ve beaten literally every single top team in EU atm, with dominant scores vs everyone but cn (2-1), it’s very strong when used correctly. A buff could easily push warrior over the top
As in my opinion your guild is atm the best guild out there, it’s more easy for you guys to get things work, which won’t work for other teams. I mean I saw you with magz once playing 4 warriors and 1 guard and you still won.
What I see when you compare a thief to a warrior is when the warrior is in down-state it’s easier to get him up. And when an opponent is in downstate it’s hard to get him up if the war goes on 100b /whirling. (faster and bit more dmg then shortbow of thief)
You should work for a-net actually to improve their game. Inspiration is needed and that you bring all along as this thread demonstrate.
The concept has really cool ideas and i think you had long time to get this together
DPS-Guards have a decent burst too actually. With virtue of justice, shield of wrath, zealot’s flame, Judge’s intervention and zealot’s defense. It’s about 7-12k burst in 2 seconds. (depends on armor etc.). Thieves are instant down to my experience.
So basically you activate virtue and shield of wrath (3s till dmg comes), then swapp weapons, activate zealot’s flame. Now you port with intervention to your foe, then hit zealot’s defense and throw the flame (zealot’s flame). Your flame will do about 2k, the plopping shield of wrath about 2k and the z’defense about 3k. + long burn duration. combined with some traits (+10% on burning foes) etc. You will get a pretty nice burst which is hard to avoid.
I don’t invented this build. I faced it in the first days of paid tournaments. The player (fredzw) gave me the build tough. He is one of the top players in EU just to mention
Well at the end of gw1 ha, there were only r11+ ppl who still played and 2-3 low-ranked teams. After the release it went completely dead and the rest of these players left, joined gvg.
It’s not about taste anymore when there are just no grps to play against. So you pick another competitive mode. So in the end you play gvg, there’s nothing more left in gw1
Cool idea. Should be not only dyes. Mabye also tournament tickets to make it easier for not-hardcore players to participate more. It gets boring to qeue up for ages.
Even when I don’t know what the need for gold is, i agree with daydream. It’s a pretty good chance to get new ppl into pvp. What I liked was the chest from HoH in GW1. The drops had some rare items which you could sell, and not only salvage the same stuff everyday over and over.
You can counter a good D/D ele with 2 persons at least. In a 1v1 he shouldn’t die.
If you have problems with burst and reacting time to press mist form or w/e you wanna use to take out his 45 sec recast burst, mabye u should try soldiers amulet. with 19k life so you can’t die instant

I like that you learn from these 1v1 because as an ele that’s the situation for you. If you feel pretty stabile in 1v1 you should move to 2v1. GL
And again: A-net on their own considered elementalist to be the best class. Saying mesmer and thieves are better shows only you’re lack of tactic and of synergy in the team.

Play on a high-level and you will agree with me that there’s nothing you can do in a 1v1. And no chance for a warrior to get a bunker. And how you wanna compensate the cripple/bleeding against a ranger? There’s a reason why ppl tend to play other classes then warrior.
Don’t confuse with pve (WvW) and spvp. There’s a big gap in play-style. Your shout-build is atleast in tpvp completely useless and in spvp you roll a better class if you can’t handle the dps build.
It doesn’t matter if you waste it or not. What you can buy are chests or armor tokens.
Something pretty cool are these converters where you can transform orbs in crystals or crystals into slivers.
Because you are starting I would buy chests.
The warrior should get some fixes for his deffence in condition removal. Nowadays he is just countered by cripple and chill. Well if you play the common axe/shield, GS – Build you have 1 knock and 1 stun + 2 immobilze if traited.
When you want more stun you need mace and hammer. Then you are GC without dmg.
@Humposaurus: What you can destroy with warrior is mabye a necro and a mesmer. The ranger will easily auto-attack you to death, thief will burst, stealth, repeat. Ele and guard should be clear, cuz of enough defense to ignore the dmg. Engineer: gl with conditions and knock back/blind.
In this situation I expect both players are on equal skill-level.

But you’re right. As I saw a-net will take a closer look at the portal-mechanic, there will be some fixes or extensions for other classes.
It’s been 2 months that we (Origine-online) don’t use a mesmer on close point.
If you want to play with a mesmer, you use strat that resolve around it, without it you have to adapt and change strat, but mesmer can be countered and we’re doing well against mesmer teams.
Playing ranger on close point is something other teams are starting to do. I’m interested if the 7 days trial of temple comes into tournament rotation, what will happen with setups there.
