I don’t even know what the point of this thread is supposed to be…Anet as said several times before why they do not want to give more control over the pet, and its always been the same answer. I am sure it will come up again, and someone will make another stupid statement about it.

As for S/D boon stripping abilities, at the time the biggest complaint was about FS, and how horrible the animation was, and easy it was to dodge. This is why (I would assume) they cleaned it up more, and split it into two skills. They still could have put 1 boon strip on DD or C&D.

Putting it on DD, imo, would have been more interesting because it could take boons off of 4 people, but not necessarily strip them, and give them to the thief.

I’ve wanted to make this post for a while and ended up forgetting all about it until I watched: http://www.twitch.tv/helsethgw2/c/2831244 . In this video Helseth talks about the current meta and I found myself agreeable to a great extent with his opinions and justifications. Basically s/d right now does too much of everything. It has high burst, very high sustainable damage And is very difficult to kill. S/d needs to have its damage and/or survivability toned down because at the moment it is simply too strong. S/d thieves need to choose between dealing damage or surviving in fights and spending their initiative accordingly, not get to do everything with the same rotations.

I agree with everything you said about thieves currently accept S/D having high burst. S/D does not have “high” burst. Burst damage is doing a lot of damage in seconds enough damage to make a player scared enough to use defensive utils. S/D damage is nowhere near the amount of burst damage of D/P.

But what I do agree with, is that the traits most S/D builds allow for is spam. Most of these are minors.

All these allow for so much dodge spam, and you are rewarded for it to much. Also most S/D builds having close to infinite initiative, with just weapon swaps, and two passives. This and boon stripping is what makes S/D over the top.

Thief mobility needs to be buffed

Z-axis teleports that only 3 or so other classes can do, still makes thieves faster than those classes because their teleports are spammable. Khylo is a great example of this.

Addressing Moderation Concerns

Players join, players quit. No need for Xeph to make an “I quit” thread in the first place. Did Voz do it? No. Folly? No. Who cares.

Xeph’s thread was more of his feelings of what he felt was wrong with the game, why he felt he quit and others. It was not just solely an “I quit” thread, which I feel can be helpful towards making this game better as in, “what cant we (Anet) do to want to make players want to come back?”

Shelter is not balanced

That makes it plenty balanced. While its “annoying” to deal with only dealing power damage, condi damage still can go through shelter. Ideally, in this meta, everyone is doing condi damage, so Shelter really isn’t helping him all that much, especially when condis are already applied.

You can interrupt shelter, but it relies on two factors.

1. The guardian using it when he has stability.

2. A necro corrupting him, with stability up while he is healing.

I am pretty sure this only works with necros because Corrupt Boon is unblockable, so is Well of Corruption.

1. Incentive. Add rewards that are enticing that will further incentivize, players to play GW2. This could be end of season titles or armors/weapon skins.

2. Completely overhaul their reward system. Flatten the rank/glory grind, but make armor/weapon skins something unique. Remove RNG for getting the armor skins, that you the player wants.

3. More maps to be made viable for tournament play. Make the Skyhammer radius smaller, or make it so you can dodge it and block it. Spirit Watch, the orb matters to much and this is another build wars map. Temple is very close, the water has to stay, down by Tranq, so I am not to sure what needs fixing about this map.

4. Public Test Server. This game needs one. There have been way to many patches where one classes is way to strong, and another isn’t strong enough. If you had players playing, in the upcoming patch I don’t think anyone could complain about transparency. Also, keeping the testers, and general player base up to date on what is being tested with update notes.

Hi,

My in-game name is Kinjax. I have been looking for a solid team for quite some time. The reasons I am looking for a team; I want to play this game on a competitive side, I would like to immerse myself with the game, and its community in a competitive way. I am not looking for a friends list of people to play with, I want a team to grow and get better with. This is what I am looking for.

Schedule : I can basically play whenever at the moment. I am on a good break from my catering job. I wake up at 11am PST (12 noon) and will hop off around 3am PST. As far as days of the week go, I can be free whenever. 5 -6 days of practice or scrim against better teams.1 or 2 days to gather our thoughts and think about practice.

If my (very flexible) schedule needs to tuned so I need to wake up sooner and go to sleeper earlier. I can do this. It is not a problem. I can change my schedule very easily.

Personality: Generally a easy person to deal with. I only give criticism when there is something to criticize. Very vocal in a match, outside a match, not all the time. But still respondent to any chat that might be happening.

My qualities:

  • I am a thief. I have been playing thief since the game launched and have grown to know how to play it very well. I am very confident against other thieves, even good thieves. I have over 2700 hours on thief, and 5000 games on thief. This is the class I focus on mostly, and I like to play more than anything.
  • Builds I play. I play D/P mostly and have tried a plethora of non-viable or builds that won’t work in a tPvP setting. D/P or, 10/30/0/0/30, is a build I have fiddled with for a while now to get the maximum potential out of. In that of; mobility, damage, and survive.
  • Adaptable. I only mention this because of changes that are on the way. If I have to play S/D (for e.g) I can. I know what my role is for a team. Generally I can could adapt in play a different class by still sticking to the same role (dps roamer).

My ego, and how I take Criticism.

Criticism is the big thing for some teams, egos, and some people not having thick skin. I have problems with none of this. I for one do not have that big of an ego because no one knows who I am, how can I. Criticism to me means I am doing something wrong, and I just need to correct it my self, or with the team.
Serious Team After Patch

I am looking for a serious team, but now its just not going to happen. After the patch maybe there will be some returning players to the game, and there will be more competition. Also, maybe more flexibility with compositions that could be ran, just maybe conditions won’t rule the meta.

I honestly want some intelligent people here, that know how to follow up, and can stick with a schedule, not necessarily my schedule, but one that would work for everyone. As well, I want people that are very serious about this game, and being competitive in general. Not just acting like they are.

I do like this idea. One thing I know I would like to see is more blunt questions, compared to State of the Game. And I mean getting directly to the point.

Questions I would want to see answered; for e.g what do some of these players think of the way Guild Wars 2 is right now balance aside, just the way the PvP is, in GW2.

I wouldn’t care too much about who is actually on, as long as they are very knowledgeable about GW2, and/or how the classes work.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic, idea. I think things like these are something GW2 is lacking, getting the community together and involved.

I still don’t know how Sneak attack can actually work with P/P because it has so little access to stealth. You would have to have refuge to get a sneak attack off, or blinding powder. Or more into it, if you carried around a SB, you could blast your black powder, but that just seems like a very clunk way to do things.

As for Body Shot, I am not a fan of giving more burn around. A small burn field might be okay, maybe the size of the Staff 2 for Eles, but not that much bigger.

Perplexity I do not know that much about the runes, but I think the best way to go about it would just to nerf the overall rune set, like you said to 1-2 or whatever could be balanced. Maybe a trait, but not on headshot, and if it was for certain, that D/P could not access this, how do you think this would effect S/P?

This would not be a problem if the developers would be more transparent, or even open-minded about giving a test server. That way there could be more transparency.

We could know, what is on the “horizon”, or what is coming “soon”, and most of the posts from QA can be delivered directly to the devs from having the test servers own forum. Just ideas, but you saying this, means this game really needs this so the devs can work, and forums moderators can reply to forums threads, and relay information same with QA.

Now might actually be the worst time to return to the game, maybe not if you are a necro. The way current state of the game is, is passive play, and being overly rewarded for passive play, and attrition based play. As well as a lot of spam.

I would wait about a week, or maybe 10 days to return to PvP, because currently, I think you just would not be impressed with how the game might have changed when you last quit.

What is meta?

All these definitions are somewhat skewed, but still relatively close to its definition.

Meta, or metagame, means what builds, players have chose what work at the time. For there to be a metagame, players must then react to said builds, and add some kind of counter-play. Developers constantly changing things from their end only makes a metagame worse, because that by definition means there is none. If the players are making changes, and then developers have to make changes, there is a metagame.

Starter class for SPvP?

I am glad everyone told him what class he should to start learning the game with, oh wait, no one did, they just whined about what was overpowered/easy to play.

As far as learning to play a class, I would suggest telling us a general play style that you might have had in past MMOs. If you do like being an aggressive, in your face player then warrior would be the way to go. Also guardians, can be a good in your face play style. There are some fun DPS guardian builds, that are pure fun. Most of them are not competitively viable.

If you like to be more passive, and attrition based play style, spirit rangers, or necromancers are the way to go currently.

Honestly with GW2 PvP, it just comes down to the way you like to play, because it has something for almost everyone.

He makes it work wonders, and he has some great fun with it. You can also give a lot of support to a team, with damage, and shouts, and a decent amount of healing.

This steal item is not good, but its not bad. Chaos armor, and confusion are great additions to condi builds for thieves, the only problem is that you can just sidestep “Throw Gunk”. No one in their right mind is actually going to sit in that gunk. In sPvP/tPvP I use it on downed bodies and its a lot of damage.

Yeah I used this when D/D was still good in spvp/tpvp, and in this setting, it was best used for HS spam+quickness.

Currently however, there is no point to put that many points deep into DA, for a lackluster GM trait, when I can put 30 into Trickery, and get a nice daze, and stop stability stomps on my burst.

So, how stupid easy it is to apply, and spam condis should not be changed? Needless to say how most of the condi classes right now, have huge aoe radius on their condi spam, oh and how Anet thought it would just be a lovely idea to make greater marks larger therefore easier to spam condis.

This is actually the problem with condition damage, because the only power builds that spam, are thieves, and only bad thieves spam their damage. And most power builds do not have wide aoes, that can cover an entire point.

Why is it always temple?

When this first came out all my matches for a whole day were only Skyhammer and Khylo, next I got Foefire and Nifhel. I am pretty sure its random. If you are getting Temple more than other maps, but still getting the other maps, that still qualifies as random. Just because you are getting a specific map more doesn’t mean the RNG needs to be tweaked.

Okay, I don’t get it, so if someone runs rabids still this would just make conditions stronger. Unless the coefficient for condition damage was changed. I don’t see this helping some classes that don’t have viable condition builds. I suppose rangers are the only exception to this because they benefit the best from your example of Condition Damage and Toughness and Healing Power.

However with this change necromancers will still have ridiculous amounts of condition damage, they will not need critical damage amulets.

Troll or not, this really just doesn’t make sense to add into the game, right now or ever.

Random Maps For Team Arenas is a Mistake.

How will this kill strategy? A lot of decent teams already know what strats to run on each map they do not need to know what one map it is going to be for the next 3 days just for strategy.

This is what I happening; when someone sees the what the map is on load screen, you can then start spitting strategy. Even with the 1:30 minutes you should still have enough time.

Personally I would prefer playing a game like Osu (if you haven’t heard of it http://osu.ppy.sh/ ). The game itself allows you to accomplish more than mouse control and accuracy but also reaction speed. Playing on the hardest difficulty of course is the way to go about it.

When I click on the links, there are no videos, but if the complaint is HS arch is too wide, have you played Sword? The sword auto, can attack targets behind you. I don’t know if that is true for every weapon but I have never seen HS do that.

I would much rather them, balance the class in a different way than restructure it completely. Say if it there was more builds that dealt damage outside of stealth, other than S/D. Maybe S/P, or P/P. More sustained damage rather than random burst or spam dodging to live, and never having to commit to a fights.

You know what anet should do? Remove the stupid initiative mechanic from the game and give thieves a CD like everyone else. Oh yeaaaaaaaaaah!! i know this comment will make some thieves cry but that’s the only way to fix cheese such as stealth spam and S/D evade all day bs.

This won’t happen because they would have to scrap the entire class and build a new one. I can’t even imagine have HS with a CD, especially with the way it works now. Same for black powder, or even all the pistol skills.

Wow these are amazing ideas. I am in love with the Javelin ability. It leaves a lot of room to be messed with.

The 4s revealed does not negatively effect really any builds atm. I think what really bothers some of the people that made these threads is that they changed revealed without really a reason for it. Stealth spam was not a huge problem back then in sPvP, it was, and still is a very relevant issue in WvW. Which makes absolutely no sense why they would revert it for WvW, and not sPvP.

I have two proposed changes for S/D thieves(considering people think they are too strong) these can, and will change a lot in terms of them having “too many” dodges.

Sigil of Energy; change it so it either, cannot be weapon swap spammed, back and fourth, or so it gives endurance over time.

Signet of Agility; simply just make this give 50% endurance. This is will instead give them one dodge and not two.

Effectively giving the thieves one dodge on a weapon swap, and one dodge when using their signet. Now instead of using weapon swaps, whenever you feel you need initiative or endurance, you might have to save it you swaps when you really do it.

Personally I think we should stay away from changing traits because there are other builds that could be viable if the 15 minor acro trait is left alone, and same for the 10 adept 3 acro trait.

I really don’t know how much this Sigil change is going to effect any other profession, but the biggest benefits S/D gets are from that sigil, and the signet.

Yeah, except the way the current state of the game is, is the worst it has ever been, conditions rule everything. And for players that just cry “OP” at everything, Anet would have to pick more carefully at feedback for them to do this style of balance.

Good things can come from them listening to the players, they need to listen to the right players.

Eh, most of the people on the forums, and in this game have misinterpreted the definition, and use it incorrectly.

A metagame is made by the players from them adapting to other players, and how they play. NOT by the developers, themselves forcing change, and forcing us to adapt to their changes.

I wish for this day to come, and for Anet to make one good balance patch, and just step back watch a true metagame to forge itself among the players.

“S/D thieves” (whoever created that term really deserves a slap, as the weapon set differentiates itself by a single ability, which in the context of how thieves are used to shut down one of the opposing damage dealers, likely to have very little access to boons at that, is a fallacy) are valuable additions to your team.

What people seem to ignore, however, is that the evade on flanking strike isn’t really the source of all the complaints but rather the fact that thieves have chosen to use the acrobatics line for this weapon set, because the weaponset has a lower burst potential and relies on sustained DPS to make its contribution.

That said, one day thieves might discover, that the S/D meta build can be used with any other weapon set combination that scales well with power to almost the same effect and that the effectiveness is largely dependent on how the rest of your team is applying pressure in team fights.

That said, I have suggested to remove the gap closing capability from flanking strike, though I believe that toning down the necromancer’s ability to decimate the whole team and the burst capabilities of the elementalist (we did see a nerf to the thief’s burst damage for a reason and it was absolutely warranted, so that it makes no sense to have another class dealing superior burst damage and have better support and sustain at the same time), coupled with engineer’s ability to just take a node from you at will, would have a significant impact on the role thieves have adopted in such a composition today.

I have said this before, so I’ll try and explain it again in the simplest way I can:

As long as any single DPS character can down the entire enemy team, if unattended, all classes will rise and fall in their effectiveness, depending on the team composition, because it forces the opposing team to (a) sse-s-s (this filter!) the biggest threat on the battlefield and devote most of its resources to neutralizing it, which in return opens up the opportunity for other DPS characters who are less of a threat to appear and actually become dominant (for the simple reason that every single DPS character can actually kill your whole team to begin with, even if the level of efficacy varies).

Very well put, Med. And honestly I could not agree more. I wonder if someone were to find away to make P/D viable and have basically the same dodges with 15+ into acrobatics and sigils of energy, it would be deemed overpowered, or too strong.

Split Solo Q and premade ..yeah wright

Solo queue is definitely on the horizon. What everyone has been playing now will become ‘Team Arena’ (group queue), and we will additionally add a ‘Solo Arena’ (solo queue). The ratings will be split, and each will have their own leaderboard. We’re also planning on shipping a couple other long-standing requests with Solo Arena that many have been waiting for. A blog post will go into details about everything.

Rewards are high on our list. We’ve been coordinating with other teams, as it has a game-wide impact. They will certainly take some time to complete and you should expect to see Solo Arena much sooner.

I don’t need anymore convincing other than that. Nice to see that there will be a separate leaderboard for the two different queues. Now I wonder what these other “long-standing” requests are.

[Bug]-Daze cancels stone

I actually haven’t noticed this, yet. Just recently started playing the 10/30/0/0/30 d/p, and I was dueling, a teammate, and he seemed to either just stun break, or still be in basilisk.

More play testing with it from me is definitely required, and I might notice this. I always thought, since the tooltip said its “stone”, and not “stun” that the daze should not break it.

There is hardly a metagame with how much is constantly shifted, by the developers themselves. And this is because every month you have someone making forums posts about what is overpowered and so on.

I really don’t see how stealth is going to be nerfed/balanced without hurting thieves in an extremely harsh way. If they do find a way to do it, then great otherwise most of the ideas I have seen on these forums, the focal point have been to just hurt the thieves pov.
