Oh god this again…
You are not invulnerable when you go stealth, you are only invisible. You can dodge roll attacks when you are stealth, you should figure it out.
Where can I find vods of the SOTG that happened today?
EDIT: Twitch automatically records VODs, found them.
EDIT2: Glad to see thieves are most likely getting a nerf soon, and not getting any buffs to any of their non-viable builds, and utilities.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
Holy kitten necro bump. Does Caed even play anymore? After the Feb Patch?
Thief stealth so OP in Hot-Join must nerf.
Is it possible to figure out how to fix/rework the tournaments so that they can work with a random map generator? Otherwise obviously this is great, and its a step in the right direction. But so far it’s only been steps, and not strides.
Lol this is golden! The sotg 3 is hilarious.
Can this get a sticky?
So you wan to them to make deathmatch? And that you think will get them away from WoW? Guild Wars 2 is so far different from WoW than any other MMO to date. The only thing they have any common is the fact they are MMOs.
And Deathmatch arenas would be kitten
A date is not mentioned as you can read (obviously a troll here). But they called it to be on top of their priority list. And now pls tell me why a leaderboard is not visible for you?
Today must be troll day in the forums…godheh, this your first pvp game? Leaderboard = rank. Rank =/ Rating.
All this sounds like to me is you will see who is ranked 1-100 but that’s all.
You won’t know what the actual rating is for anyone. So someone who is rank 100 will have no clue how far they are from rank 1 without visible rating, which is never mentioned in the article.
i.e in WoW they had leaderboard (you are rank 9) and visible rating (2395 personal rating) so you could see ok, rank 1 is 2400 i’m only 5 points away. Having a leaderboard without visible rating is lame and lazy.
We also still have no clue how rating is even calculated if it is not a straight up skill based rating and has a time played variable it will be even lamer. Based on what we have seen so far with “paid” systems and QPs I have absolutely zero faith this will be a legit ranking system.
What do you think the rankings of the leaderboard is going to be based off of? Glory Rank? No. QPs? No. It is going to be based off of rating, while it probably wont be visible, in this march patch, leaderboards also might not come out with the March patch.
There is no established date to release leaderboards so it could come in an April Patch, and then they might make ratings visible. Makes sense to me, they do that all in the same.
1. Build diversity and variety and direct counters to all viable builds other than being a bunker. Is this possible for the balance designers to manage? Are we ever going to see more than 1 or 2 viable builds for some classes?
2. Visible rating. Speaks for itself.
3. Ladder/Leaderboards. When are we seeing these features?
4. Custom Arenas. I would assume this is coming with this March patch. So I guess.
I personally am looking more forward to Ladder/Leaderboards, and would like build diversity.
EDIT: Thank you Xeph, again for making another community building thread.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
I really only have one question. Are we ever going to have build diversity in this game? And I mean maybe 3 to 5 viable builds with in one classes. And 1 to 2 strong counters to our builds and other classes builds. Conditions countering specific bunkers, and Burst countering specific bunkers and etc.
I am not saying there should not be one REALLY good build, but it should not outshine so much to the point that it is clear these other abilities suck. And there is no point in me even trying something new. When it will just go back to the way things were and will always be.
So again, my question is. Can we have some build diversity in Guild Wars 2? Reward the players that make different builds, and the ones that try something new that everyone says won’t work. Do not nerf the only viable option players have, give us a variety, and more choices.
EDIT : Also would it hurt if dyes were account bound, and not strict to a certain character?
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
This thread should be stickied. Would make it easier for the teams to find 1 extra player, and not have to search dead threads, and vice versa, if a player is looking for a team.
We’re definitely listening. I like these ideas a lot. Custom Arenas will still be used to fill the role of hot-join. They won’t all be password protected, and people who just want to jump into a game are still going to do that. We’re curious to see how the population shifts now that the tournament formats are changing.
I like that you guys are keeping an ear and an eye out after this patch. Hopefully now with Solo Queue more casual players can realize they can just hop in games like they could do with hot-join or even do the same with Custom Arenas (maybe).
On a completely unrelated topic..
well actually it does relate.
Is anyone else sick of trying to defend this game to his friends? I get that all day long. “What? you still play GW2 pvp? DUDE that game SUCKS! Seriously, we want you back in SC2, play the real E-Sport with us!”.
And I’m all like "Yeah… but.. they’re making a ladder and… the combat is really innovative and… erm. Well. "
It saddens me
Yeah man, I feel you. I have a good group a friends that wanted to play LoL when this game was coming out. I would play with the every once in awhile, but…when GW2 was still new it was fun. Now, its like wtf is this game?
<Player looking for a team>
Ingame name: Kinjax
Main Class / Potential Classes Thief ( Burst / Roamer) // Elementalist (Burst / Support/ Bunker) 1,958 Games played as a Theif // 1,124 won.
Region: North America; CA, PST
Practice Times: All Day, All Night. 24/7
Experience: Only had one previous team and it only lasted 2 or3 months. Currently rank 40. Past game experience games like SW:TOR, WoW.
In SW: TOR the guild I was an officer in competed with a WoW guild that claimed they were going to be the best at PvP in SW:TOR, Dara Mactire. In WoW I struggled the same way I am now. No one to play with. Had 2200 but could not go higher.
Other: I really would like to be on a competitive team again (if this game gets off the ground) it was so much fun. I guess I have been a “casual” lately because I had no team to play with but I never stopped playing and have always been around to watch the game change.
Thank you Xeph for making this thread, and to the person that revived it!
EDIT: Team Found!
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
Well I guess the thief teleport/shadowstep would matter if you could actually use it with the orb.
If you use infiltrator’s arrow or shadowstep you drop the orb where you used the ability. Don’t know about mesmer portal though.
Sounds about right. Maybe as a thief I could use Tripwire, its a knockdown, I could set down on one of the stairwells before the cap spot. Probably still a bad ability : /.
Guardians and eles seem really good if not the best, along with mesmers. Glad I can at least solo queue cause no one would take a thief on their team after this patch.
Tried Tripwire is amusing, since it goes through block.
But then that fuarking Invulnerability and any random evade will kill it.
Had some success with Scorpion wire pulling them off the bridge back to the floor but that skill is wonky as hell.
Yeah when this map was going to come out I was thinking about using Scorpion wire with a burst build. Still don’t know though. Surprise shot is just as good as tripwire though…Only requires a little bit of setup, but I guess it doesn’t work on the orb carriers whole crew.
I’m fine with having it be very important to gamescore.. The 2ndary mechanic SHOULD be the most important.
Having it on a 4second pick up and 10 seconds to respawn while also being worth major points is just dumb though.
The Capture the ball should feel like Football, where everybody rises and screams GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL
Rather then basketball where people are mostly apathetic after the first 30 points.
I see what you are saying here, if it had like a 6 second cast, and maybe a 20- 25 second respawn to be worth 30 points, it would be more epic worth the points. And in the downtime players should go take back bases.
On this map playing my thief I enjoyed being a roamer than any other map to be honest.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
Would have liked leaderboards and some kind of ladder by now. The MMR, ladder, and leaderboards should have all been released together. It doesn’t make sense to have one without the others.
Also hidden MMR? Seriously?
I have been doing solo queues for the passed 2-3 hours and I only lost match out of the 5 or 6. Then again, my teams were always 40+ so they were at least experienced, and the teams we played against we rank 5- 22, and that was all 5 or 6 games.
The one game I lost someone was afk, who would have thought…
Sounds about right. Maybe as a thief I could use Tripwire, its a knockdown, I could set down on one of the stairwells before the cap spot. Probably still a bad ability : /.

I thought they said they wanted to speed up the conquest style? In the sotg? Maybe not, however, preventing ball scoring is very important (obviously), just depends what class is carrying >_>.
Don’t worry guys NEXT PATCH is the huge PvP patch, and we get all the PvP changes.
Wow after reading all that, I feel like I am going to cry from all the truth. Maybe it’s time to start disbelieving in Anet. When the game first launched (and 3 months after) I was playing this game all the time. But now, I only play off and on, and play other games, like Dota 2, CS:GO, SC2, etc.
Anyways, the need for Solo-queue is desperately needed, and wouldn’t it hurt if they were more transparent about giving us a feature like this, or more features to come (Custom Arenas i.e)? Hopefully a dev or someone will see this, and they will read more into how they can make solo queue healthy for the sPvP population.
To touch on transparency a little more, they do not have to make us promises. Letting us know what they are working on, and how we feel about their ideas, is all we are asking for. Making a promise and then going back on it is the worse feeling. That is not what we want. Maybe make more blog posts? Maybe make a preview of all the possible ideas you can do to revitalize the sPvP community.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
I just hope you guys are ready for the loading screen bug.
I guess it would be nice to have dueling. In both sides of the game. But, I feel like it’s just going to get pushed aside for more important things.
Yeah totally we need more WoW clones in the gaming industry. Game Designers should literally carbon copy World of Warcraft for every next MMO coming in the next 10 years.
Seems legit.
But seriously, no.
Oh this thread got bumped (don’t know why the title was changed(again)).
However I still stick by my original post. Would be nice if the casual players that can get better and have the time to get better had some incentive to even try. Currently there isn’t. And with everyone playing the popularity contest it makes impossible to find a stable team.
Yeah lost cause. Maybe your kitten idea will come in the next 6 months because this game needs features that are far more important.
@Narcarsis.5739: Kind of pointless debating with him because he thinks his opinion is right and everyone else’s is wrong, unless they agree with him. And it makes this thread pointless.
Since when it is an ‘opinion’ that asura models are more difficult to discern in terms of direction they face or in terms of animations???
Only unreasonable ppl like yourself deny such fact. There was really no discussion here, just ppl missing the topic and being pointed out they miss the topic, then they switch to l2p me and tell me to ask advice from people I destroy in 1v1. So as usual for forum discussions, just bunch of off-topic nonsense, personal attacks, and straight liars like yourself.
Any reasonable person understands that asura models need to get retired (or significantly enlarged) in spvp if the game is to go anywhere.
Sigh…It’s in no doubt your opinion. I don’t have trouble with it you do, (apparently). But wait there’s more. Now you are going to say you have never had a hard time seeing an Asura animation. Get your story straight.
And please elaborate how they can enlarge models without causing rendering bugs and with out models causing more animation issues, and delaying more features. Please TELL ME.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
It’s not nonsense dude it’s the truth. You want them to increase the size of the Asura model, to maybe about the human model? Right? Okay well the skeletal structure of that model is going to have to completely scrapped and redone. Doing this is going to take months and only get in the way of more important features that are in the pipe,( as Jsharp says).
So, it is completely and utterly pointless to even ask for this. when it won’t come for the next, I don’t know 6 months? Maybe? Not even to mention in tPvP setting, you will have 1v1, and you should see him coming. Let’s be real, if you can’t see a warrior charging you or, a thief casting his signet/Basilisk Venom etc , that’s NMP, or Anet’s.
Just play more idk, be more aware.
I do not need to play more, I do not need to be more aware, I can own you easily 1v1, I do not have problem 1v1-ing anyone in the game, it is not about me. It is simply an issue of nerfing certain classes/builds via model choice.
If they cannot make them large due to technical reasons, very simply just transfer them into other models when they go into spvp. I said I do not care what they do, what I do care is that one can easily tell which way model is facing and that animations be easily recognizable.
I believe this is a lost cause trying to argue this with you. You think you are the best player on the planet, and you don’t have any trouble killing Asuras yet you still want to complain about them. What?
#moderator #deletethisthread
P.S You cannot just transfer character models over…because you have issues rendering the animations, and the models will glitch out and look kitten

I feel like target of target or even a focus target, maybe having cast bars over their heads. All this could help. But blatantly asking for the models to be larger, it messes with the skeletal structure of the model, and will slow down animations. Basically make it look really weird, and abnormal.
I think you just need to be more aware or your surroundings (at the OP, and those agreeing with him). The only class (when it’s Asura) is hard to catch an eye on is a warrior. But still, it’s a warrior, if you actually get hit by bulls rush use a stun break. And now this scenario just sounds like hot join, because of zerging and 8v8, which who cares?
Who are these people saying they have zero problems backstabbing (properly?) asuras?
Are we talking constantly moving/turning target that is not stunned always repositioning and dodging?
Or are we talking noob level play where people stand for few seconds at the time and cast their stuff while static?
There is no freaking way that you have no problem even in 1v1, and in group fights it is laughable how bad things become.
If ANET wants the game ‘to be based on animations’, then they need to make them reasonably clear, and part of that is having large enough models (not just hitboxes).
Definitely never had an issue with an Asura, ever. Even played a human thief in to try it out to see if I would like it more (I didn’t) I think the people in here just have their own set of issues.
Also Basilisk Venom, stuns, Devourer Venom roots, they all work. If someone breaks the stun then its not an Asura problem anymore now is it?
I don’t really think it makes an Asura overpowered. I have played Asura since BWE1 and I fell in love with the race because it was so small. I have zero problems seeing an Asura, and backstabbing one.
I do believe as an Engi you can knock them back when they are stealthed. Or as an ele you can use mist form.
I feel the worst/best is blind stomp or any kind of invuln stomp.
Well I am excited about the new map, however ranking and rating, not as excited only because I do not have a dedicated team.
I am more or so wishing that they add some build diversity if not that this patch then soon. I play a thief and personally I am getting really sick of either having one REALLY good build or a few meh builds. It’s pretty stupid imo. And I know its not just thieves that are like that.
Well I came to this thread a little late but I am going to comment on this.
I have seen your thread with your builds you gave, they helped me. How can they help me find a team, and decent players? A team to where I can know that they are going to show up. But I guess this thread wasn’t about any of that… it was about how MMR will only make things worse for you and the hardcore players. Gee, how every feature in this game should only effect you hardcore players. I am going to say this slowly mainly because it was already said multiple times. Currently there is no incentive for casual players to want to get better. A ladder can help that. And the teams below the top 2 teams, will only learn from their mistakes, lack of communication, (maybe) not being 100% in-sync with teammates, etc. That’s why its a ladder. The players have to climb it with rating, and with rating the players get better.
I did not articulate my point, and in hindsight I made this thread at 2am without putting much thought into it. So let me explain what’s on my mind more clearly.
The reason I believe people are not so good at PvP is not because they’re incapable or skill capped. The issue is a lack of players. The problem stems from this; there aren’t enough people to practice against, to grow from, and to improve with. As you said it’s incredibly hard to find a team because there are so few people who have correlating schedules and mindsets. While matchmaking will help the community and possibly bring more players to the game there needs to be an additional effort into garnering a population increase. As I said in an earlier post the casual player base will continue to improve with a matchmaking, and this will benefit the game. But in order to truly grow the game’s PvP as a whole there needs to be more of these competitive players. These are the people who spend time developing strategies, honing their game play, and exploring the options and limits of the game’s mechanics. People that the casual players look to for advice, or structure. Without more of them the game will stagnate and the casual player base will become capped. This is because these people don’t have the same amount of time to pour into the game and explore what it’s capable of, not because they are worse mechanically. It’s the people who live and breathe the game that help it grow, and there needs to be an effort to bring more of these to Guild Wars 2 so that it can take off and develop.
Hope that’s a little more clear.
P.S. Glad to know that forum post helped you. Seems to be lost already.
So, let me see if I am getting this right…You believe they are incapable only through the time developed into the game? Well sir, I am just going to tell you one more time, there is no incentive for myself or casuals to play. I have plenty of time in my day to study this game and get better at it if I wanted, I don’t see the point. I know what the end goal is, and I will be satisfied just watching GW2 PvP on twitch.tv in the next year or so.
There is no incentive for myself. If I could feel myself (or teammates even) getting better, I would play, I would go the lengths on this game. The moment I gave up is when I lost my first team and people started playing favorites, and I could not find a team.
One day, maybe one day.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
I have offered to help people, improve the game, and raise the skill cap. The issue is that people aren’t willing to improve, very few people took me up on my offer.
I also never said the game was bad. It’s a great game, and far more dynamic than the general population realizes. But when people get stomped in games they leave, reducing the amount of players in the queue. Eventually it gets to a point where people either fight the same players, or stomp new players forcing them to quit. When there are only 2 good teams matchmaking will force them to play each other over and over again until one gets bored and quits (this is how matchmaking works, they will climb higher and higher and no one will be able to catch up). While new players will slowly start to get better and be in a good environment the competitive/advanced players will slowly leave the game due to lack of competition. From there you either get lucky and find the newer players surpassing the older generation, or they will become capped and the cycle continues. The game needs multiple teams are able to compete at a higher level, so that it causes the meta to form (it won’t happen when it’s just 2 teams) and evolve. Issue with that is that there aren’t enough good players at the moment to form these teams. It’s critical for the game’s health and needs to be assessed.
P.S. Self Fulfilling Prophecy is a sociological term.
Well I came to this thread a little late but I am going to comment on this.

I would rather have them come out with other features that they have already promised us. Not let something like new game modes get in the way, and slow down stuff we actually need.
This was kind of lame. The only thing they came out with was the 1 match thing for Temple of the Silent Storm. And 3 tickets, seriously? They didn’t even lower the amount of tickets for paids, but they goes without saying this replaced paids.
Guess I will be taking another one month break again, and see what happens in March, hopefully something to look forward to.
This is a interesting thread and I have a good counter-argument. E-sports can be formed quickly it has happened time to time. But people running the tournaments are more attracted to the games. They want to bring these games to their tournaments for our sake so we have something cool and awesome to watch.
Why Guild Wars 2 is not attracting IPL, or MLG, or IEM? IEM for e.g is full on games, they have more than enough events and are going to more than likely remove one. MLG, is full. They have SC2, LoL, SSF4, and I think UMvC3. And before MLG gets a new game, they said they want Dota 2 or CS:GO. IPL is the only available huge tournament, and spots are being filled by SMITE ( I think that’s what the OP was referring to), and ShootMania. ESL said they were interested, but that was more than 3 months ago.
It is not Anet’s job to go out of their way to contact these tournaments, they just only need to go out of their way to make it interesting to observe and watch, and then these tournaments will want Guild Wars 2 there or even feel obligated that it HAS to be there.
So far I think they are doing a swell job especially when you consider it an MMO. I don’t recall any MMO that was an esport with one year.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
So exactly, how is this even remotely considered balance? It’s not luck getting 27k damage, separate encounters, but back to back mind you. Stealth…stealth…dead. So fun!
/end rant
I would just like to nit pick and point out, the thief did not do 27k with one combo. He did 24k and 20k.
And if you want to play as a glass cannon, start utilizing the dodge roll mechanic and some stun breaker abilities.
You don’t play tournaments for glory and bunkers are really only for tournaments. You shouldn’t be using a bunker in hotjoin. You should be glory farming there. Not only are you preventing yourself from accumulating glory, you’re also stopping others from doing so. :P
This is a good point, but everyone has different play styles and while hot-join is for glory farming, it also for casual players. And a casual player will assume the point needs to be defended and will try a bunker build.
If they were to give points for defending, I think the points should be similar that to the treb on Khylo. Three points every X amount of seconds. Also that would give the players more of an idea what tournaments are like. They have to have someone defend, and maybe they would want that role.
@daydream Read the quote, the guy is a joke, and is saying eports is a joke because it’s not “popular”. I just want evidence on the numbers he is claiming, currently there is 200k people watching IEM Katawice for LoL, and probably even more actually there.
And he was saying most esports are boring to watch…
I think having support builds is a better design. Such as a ele that can heal when attuned to water, and be pretty tanky. But is not dedicated. Gives boons like swiftness, and might, and aegis, and auras, (with combo fields of course).
In my opinion that is a better design instead of a dedicated healer.
Well the majority and myself have deemed LOL and DOTA2 more entertaining to watch and better as an esports and the majority are what e-sports happen.
GW2 will probably never get off the ground in terms of competitive pvp. Little podcasts with developers who completely disregard the issues raised isn’t helping.
There is no majority that watch LOL, not even the majority of LOL players watch it, let alone when you consider the number of people who play computer games, it is dull as ditch water, really go get someone sit them down in front of LOL and see how excited they are after 15 mins of whack-a-mole and farming, two of the most boring concepts in video games.
But then that goes for video games in general, they are more fun to play than watch, for most Twitch streams the biggest factors are the size of the playerbase (LOL has 32 million active accounts each month, WoW PVE gets more views than most “competitve” games, etc) and how entertaining the person is, look at GW2, Teldo is the most watched guy when it comes to GW2, he plays probably the least played class, but people find him entertaining.
This guy again… : /. League is boring to watch, boring to play. Yet people go to watch it’s tournaments and watch it online. Please show me a link and give me evidence, and where you get this? Please.
Why is Guild Wars 2 being tried as an esport when its not even there. Anyone can tell you it’s not there yet. Anet is only developing it as one.
It will eventually make it. LoL was not instantly popular it took a year or so for it to make in to esports.
EDIT: LoL is having a tournament atm and it why it is having so many viewers atm on twitch IEM Katowice.
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
Anyways I had something I wanted to say that actually helped this thread. But got erased because I got logged out T_T
Guild Wars 2 is something new to e-sports – I don’t just mean as in a game – the conquest mode is completely different, and not to many games have tried to do this yet. This alone can draw people to the game that like the MMO genre. But let’s talk about how combat is. I don’t know if any of you have heard of Blade & Soul. Guild Wars 2 combat reminds of that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3_VmSiHMC4 This is when the game was still in beta.
I have been in to esports since I was 12 (I am 20 years old), and have been following the games ever since. I know how games start, how they fall, and most importantly how they grow.
Speaking of games growing, some may not know why LoL got so big. LoL was the first stand alone MOBA esport. That attracted a lot of revenue, also because it was the first successful dota clone. It still took about a year and a half for the game to start growing, and become an esport. People here on this forums expected roughly 4 and 1/2 months after release to become esport? Seriously?
Final thoughts. This game, and esports in general need time to grow. Look at smite, a game that is still in beta. Or even Dota 2, (bad example) uh…Shootmania, yeah! Well all three of those games are still in beta, (don’t count dota 2 it has been around way to long) and are starting to grow as a game, and are healthy for esports.
Look at this more optimistically, instead of a pessimistic kitten, obviously you have your own right to be a kitten that’s fine, but why? The OP was trying to get positive and maybe some negative feedback here.
Hey kid totally glad you missed you the point but it’s okay kid. I will just re-explain it. E-sports needs to grow, and Anet is doing a good thing here by developing the game as one from release.
E-sports is still fresh after (since you want me to exact and accurate) 15 years. And after about 30 maybe even 20 years will have more revenue.
Again you probably won’t understand. Poor kid
EDIT: I am going to bed this was fun, maybe you will undetstand/stop trolling when you grow up.
It may need to grow, but then it may just be flawed as an idea, currently the facts are it is not popular, even amongst those actively interested in video games or even amongst those that play the “esport” games themselves.
When you grow up, you will learn to accept people have differing opinons and to respond in a less childish manner when someone puts forth an opinion you disagree with.
Still awake lulz. But I do accept people for the opinions they have. And yes the kid gets it. E-sports are not popular right now . I don’t know if anyone else has noticed the sudden spurt of game developers making their games as esports though.
It’s a new marketing trick so, I guess that answers that OP. Good night.
