As someone who has theorycrafted roaming builds since beta i can say youre wrong here.

Appeal to Authority is a logical fallacy, which is why I didn’t say a similar thing to you.

If you’ve only ever approached build theory-crafting from the one direction (best stats for build), then you don’t have the experience to confidently say I’m wrong when I suggest it can be approached from the other direction (best build for stats).

You’ve made this claim a few times. Can you please give a definitive example?

You seem to have one in mind if you so firmly believe this, so it might help the conversation to know more of where you’re coming from.

Mathmaticalkly speaking, higher stat pool = advantage

You can get Mauraders w/o stepping foot in HoT, as well as Celestial… both have higher stat pools.

So again, a definitive example please?

~EW

My point was right, you must know that not all builds work best of marauders and celestial right? Take your point about marauder and celestial, which both do give advantages and then apply the same with crusaders trailbladers minstrels and so on and so forth. (I’m speaking trinkets earrings rings amulet, you cant get these outside of HoT, bar the amulet of salt from pvp which was actually changed by anert to not include HoT stats, funny huh) EVERYONE can use celestial with laurels, so this does not count, people who raid get all the other higher stat pool combo’s, thats the issue.

No, what you said was “higher stat pool = advantage,” and I showed you can get equal or higher stat pool outside HoT numerically.

What you MEANT was having a larger pool of stat sets to choose from gives you the advantage. To this I also disagree. While people generally want to select the stats that work best for the build, it can also go the other way: You can choose a build to take full advantage of the stats you have available.

It might not be as fun that way, but we’re talking pure numerical advantages. You can get a numerically equal or superior stat pool outside HoT to those stats exclusive to HoT, and then build your character around that stat pool. There exists no advantage in HoT stats, only diversity of builds.

Zealot armor: the cost

Im getting really tired of ppl telling me how to play the game and in what gear. I already play the most efficient stuff on 3 toons. Sue me for tryin to be clever with a build

Like I would like to play Tempest in melee range and sustain myself with heals (also allies), while doing realtively good dmg.
But yeah I KNOW >.> That is not the build on metabattle. booohoo
Again Willy hears ya, but Willy don care.

+1 Lol. Much of my endgame fun is playing with builds, and as I mentioned earlier I had some good success with a zealots/clerics mix…. though not on a tempest/ele, but my warrior. I hope you find it fun, too!

I dont mean to hijack your thread op but I have a question for these guys, do you think warrior would be for me? I like versatility, I love nearly all of my weapons being effective and not outmatched by others, I like switching builds and weapons kind of often. I also like a mix of ranged and melee depending on my mood, I enjoy being in groups. I also like flashy classes.

The Warrior’s definitely got the versatility, weapon effectiveness, and build/weapon swapping. I also like to switch builds up, and experiment w/ weapon combos… The difference for me between my warrior and guardian in this aspect is that with the guardian I just wasn’t satisfied for long with any build I made… but with the warrior it’s more that I love the build I’m using but every few weeks I have a ‘great idea’ for something new and get even more excited.

I’ll say that I don’t think it has the flashiness you seek. For me the warrior is about style over flare. Whirling around your enemy with a blur of axes, laying down a carpet of flames w/ Scorched Earth, sending out a shockwave with your hammer hitting in a cone the oncoming horde of mobs and crippling them. There’s this visceral feel of “that’s cool” w/o being flashy.

Last, I enjoy the ranged weapons, but they definitely feel slow. Effective, but slow. There’s a recent brief thread in the warrior sub-forums talking about the differences and usefulness of the bow and rifle.

Also, what about thiefs? Are they really that squishy ? As far as MB goes, the raid and fractal build are pretty much the same for DD. What about playing a thief in OW tho? I always fear if I*’d decide for the thief I’d play a really squishy profession that requires me to really master the class if I want to survive in (HoT) OW.

Mikei the Mighty on Youtube has a recent video up about a very, very simple raid build for the Daredevil/Thief. That might give you some of the information you’re seeking, though indirectly because it’s raid-focused instead of the broader HoT focused.

Zealot armor: the cost

I’ve made a set of exotic zealot’s gear, so I understand your frustration. I have on the back-burner a plan to make a set of ascended, too. To do either takes a lot of time to gather the sprockets, a lot of money to purchase the sprockets, or somewhere in the middle.

I approach it via time. I bought the sprocket generator for my home instance, and the watchwork mining pick. I have a few alts set to farm iron ore in Brisban Wildlands. I utilize the shared inventory slot for the mining pick, and any toon I have logged in equips that mining pick… farmer or main. You will get them faster than you think… but it will take some time.

As a side note, I do find Zealot’s useful for doing a dps/healing hybrid, so I can recommend it (otherwise I wouldn’t bother considering ascended, hehe).

What cosmetic auras are for Ascended gear and which ones can be used in Exotic gear?
1.Chak Egg Sac
2. Preserved Queen Bee
3. Vial of Liquid Aurillium
4. Poly-luminescent (Black)
5. Poly-luminescent (Green)
6. Poly-luminescent (Orange)
7. Bauble Infusion: Blue, Red
8. Ghostly Infusion

7 & 8 are infusions, so they can only go in ascended equipment.

The rest are categorized as jewels, so they can go in any non-ascended trinkets.

Why pick bow over rifle?

in Warrior

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Yup, I gotta parrot what was already said.

Bow is for fire fields, condi damage, close to mid range combat, and aoe/piercing. It’s beautiful to use when you’re expecting a lot of mob spawns in a meta event.

Rifle is for single target, pow damage, fast adrenaline gain (if traited), and interrupts. It’s great if you need to disengage from a champ and range for a few seconds.

Join the noble and awesome ranks of Warrior!

*Different feel than mage-feel of mesmer; much more direct combat
*Not squishy – the recent change to Adrenal Health has given the Warrior a huge sustain boost
*Burst and Primal Burst are effective, and straight forward.
*Quick weapon swapping gives you options w/o being overwhelming like ele attunements (my personal opinion; I can’t handle ele attunement swap)
*Discipline trait line gives you that speed buff you’re after (not swiftness, but 25% isn’t bad)
*Lots of viable weapons to mix-n-match so you can really personalize your combat.
*If you’re interested in raiding, PS Warriors are always in demand.

I spent 3 years maining a Guard, never truly happy with any build I tried. When I switched to Warrior a few months ago I started having so much more fun in PvE. Classically it’s not the type of profession that’d interest me, but now I don’t want to play anything else.

OP, I get your desire to expand those game features you enjoy into the PvE realm… It’s always admirable to see that kind of enthusiasm in the forums instead of pure game bashing. But, I also gotta pass on your idea.

I feel I get enough PvE competition trying to tag mobs in meta events before the all-zerk-gear players kill them in 1-3 hits. I know that I’d just avoid any intentional competitive features added to PvE (like I’ll be avoiding the new ley-line current event).

In GW2 there is no correlation between the amount of money you spend in micro transactions (RL cash → gems → stuff) and the advantage you have in the game over others. That is what PtW is, and that is not GW2.

HoT is an expansion. It is a one-time purchase that gives you more options in your profession; there is no ever-increasing amount of money to spend for an ever-increasing advantage.

Also, there are plenty of posts and threads about people rocking PvP, WvW, and PvE w/o using the elite professions. Given all that info HoT is not PtW.

Doesn’t a high Toughness level make mobs target you more often? I remember hearing that somewhere.

I heard that too! But when I’m in groups, I don’t get targeted more often than others. Aggro seems random to me. :o

DPS and proximity definitely contributes to aggro. The wiki says it’s unconfirmed that toughness contributes to aggro. In my own n=1 experience, though, it does. I rarely build for dps, and in my higher toughness builds I get targeted by more mobs in group events and champs then other players. They make a bee line right for me, despite my sucky damage.

What profession are you playing, and traits are you currently running? Are you using a power build, condi build, or hybrid build? This would help in giving suggestions as to what and how to add defensive stats to what you normally do while changing as little as possible.

~EW

My current level 80 who I’ve been using to run Dailies is an Engineer/Scrapper. If I remember correctly, he has either Beserker armor, or condi stats. He uses dual-wielding pistols, but I also will use Flamethrower and Elixir Gun when necessary.

I also would plan on running other characters through HoT when I get there, so that includes one of every class.

Okies, I’m not very good with the engineer, so take whatever I’m about to say with that grain of salt.

It looks like you’re mostly a condi build with those weapons, even though you say your using berserker stats…. maybe you’re running a hybrid?

…so, before I get into Toughness, there’s the little caveat about it. I love toughness, however since so many people don’t run with it, if you increase your toughness you’ll be the primary target in many group events. When you’re soloing this is obviously not a problem. So, if you’re gunna run any amount of toughness, you’re going to need to take a hit… and that means a total armor class in the 2.8k or higher…. Others may disagree, but this is coming from my own experience meandering about HoT. My personal preference is a total AC around 3k.

Toughness: Consider adding in Dire armor into your mix… namely legs, chest, and weapons. This will give you a handy amount of toughness and vitality w/o sacrificing your condi damage.

Vitality: If you feel pretty adept at dodging and moving in combat in general, then instead look to Carrion armor and weapons and/or Chrysocola jewelry. This will give you the vitality to take a hit or two, but your hybrid damage will stay higher.

More than stats, I have found in HoT that AoE damage is paramount. Relying more on your flamethrower might actually be more beneficial in a lot of circumstances over the P/P.

It’s a huge investment, but I recently finished a full set of Celestial armor for my Warrior. Yeah, he doesn’t excel in any one area. But, I’ve yet to have much issue roaming solo in HoT. The stat spread works really well, since many of my builds can utilize all the stats. Your build sounds like it can also utilize most/all of the stats for celestial, so it’s something you might wish to consider. It’s an expensive set to make, so make that decision very cautiously. In that vein, you can also consider grabbing celestial ascended jewelry if you’ve got the laurels. This will also help give you more toughness/vitality/hp without sacrificing a lot of your dps.

I’ll stop there, but I hope some of that has been helpful. I purposefully avoided any suggestion of HoT stats since most require spending a lot of time in HoT before you can acquire them, hehe.

basicly admitting they dont care about our reactions anyway so they just do what they want lmao

While I agree that it’s frustrating, it’s also an incredibly responsible business decision.

Software manufacturing (and game development in particular) has a history and reputation for not being able to meet deadlines, finding programming walls that weren’t predictable, and reallocating budgets (thereby dropping projects). Just because a developer has an initial intention to do something, doesn’t mean they can succeed at creating it let alone ship it on time.

I’d rather be pleasantly surprised by an announcement of what I’m getting, then disappointed by an announcement canceling something that was intended.

The first step to treating Molyneux Syndrome is to acknowledge it exists.

EphemeralWallaby.7643

No I don’t farm, i play the content and get enough of everything! That’s something totally diffrent. I play and realize “Oh I have so much of x y z and q again, cool”. If you play a bit of everything, you get a bit of everything.
And i won’t do 2 weeks of SW to get my MCs. And it’s the charged loadstones that I need, so no I cant’t sell these

Yes, but it’s also about managing your priorities. If a legendary is something you want faster than a year, then those resources you get playing how you want need to shift in that direction even if you don’t change how you play. Getting a bit of everything means that when you need more than a bit it’s gunna take longer.

For example, if you love doing Teq… then take the 1g reward every time you defeat Teq and put it towards buying a MC and you’re not playing any differently… you could do the same with the daily 2g if the dailies are something you do.

Even though you want your charged lodestones for something, you can dedicate them towards your legendary weap now, and when you have that weap shift resources back to gaining/saving lodestones.

Time=money, even in an imaginary economy like this one. And, it’s always been in any MMO that you trade the stuff you’re willing to work for but don’t want for the stuff you’re not willing to work for but do want. You don’t have to change how you play, but you do have to consider how you prioritize and manage your gains.

Legendaries shouldn’t be cheap, quick, nor easy to make. MC prices and availability are just fine; they reflect that concept.

/unpopularopinion

~EW

Yeah. But they also should not be “Hm waiting a year for all the coins or buying 2 more accs seems more resonable that buying them for 2g from the TP”.
I farm all the Mats myself. I play every bit of content and don’t want to limit myself, and if that fact, that I play the game like intended, means I can never have a legy or help my friends with theirs, then that’s sad.

You just admitted you’re willing to farm mats. Then go farm charged lodestones, sell them on the TP, and buy your MCs. IME you can get roughly 1 charged lodestone every 20ish minutes, and it looks like each one should net you ~2-3 MCs. You’ll get your MCs faster, and you’ll be making some Mjolnir crafter very happy in the process.

There are ways and means to expedite the process of getting MCs w/o buying a new account. It’s a cost-benefit analysis everyone has to make within their preferred mode of play.

And, if someone (like me) weren’t willing to buy MCs on the TP, and instead wait until they have enough… then for something called a Legendary Weapon a year to craft sounds appropriate.

Is it possible to get a precursor when opening bags with a LV 53 toon? I’ve heard ppl say yes, and I’ve heard no.

So I’ll ask here.

From the wiki:

“Precursor weapons can be obtained from almost any item source. This includes loot, chests, containers, reward chests, etc. that can be characterized by the possibility of receiving a weapon. The possibility of receiving a precursor weapon is not dependent on level or area, as players have reported receiving precursors on low-level characters in low-level areas as well as high-level character in high-level areas. To note, only high level players (62 – 80) can receive exotic quality weapons and may be more likely to receive precursor weapons from loot as loot often scales with level.”

Dumb people who think they’re smart are the ones who use an exploit and don’t share it thinking they won’t get caught.

The BEST thing about BL Skins is they are rarer then Legendaries. If they were given away for free like that its the same as ‘flooding the market’.

So on one month all the VIPs would get the Timekeeper Shield skin as account bound, and that somehow floods the market? Each YEAR the VIPs would get a total of 12 skins that they can’t sell, when how many new BL skins are introduced each year?

Feel free to stand by that statement all you want, but you’ll be standing there alone.

Celestial is great if you’re semi-frequently swapping between builds, or testing builds… which is why I have it and use it.

For a static build you always use, if there’s a couple stats you wouldn’t use in the celestial gear, then it’s not worth the celestial gear.

That being said, when I’m geared in my ascended celestial, I do just fine tromping around HoT solo. Solo PvE play is my preferred mode. A hybrid build using AH (which you should always use AH no matter what) utilizes all the stats from celestial pretty effectively.

edit: Celestial is definitely so costly as to not be a decision made lightly. I spent many months debating whether or not it’d be worth the investment. I’m happy with my decision, but I’m also happy that I took all that time to decide.

No, if the VIPs are getting BL Skins then that will flood the market and make them pretty worthless. It cant hurt the economy, and cant put the game into a Pay2Win model.

Then, I’d have a lovely poison attack to start combat with. I think the big deciding factor will be if Hare’s Speed uses up the bundle… if it doesn’t then I think I could make use of this item.

The mine kit might be useful for tough fights you have time to prepare for.

I’m also wondering about the Mortar Seed Turret… namely the blue one… and if it’d have any appreciable effect on a break-bar. The wiki says it slows… but does it inflict the slow condition, and for how long? These things must be tested!

A few months ago I picked up a pile of Ash Legion Spy Kits and have found them to be very useful: dropping agro, grabbing a HP/MP undisturbed, and even looting chests guarded by champs! (I believe it was at the Champion Krait Witch… I edged my way up a mast just slightly above her platform at the top… I equipped the kit… I glided down to behind the chest and used the kit immediately when I landed… opened the chest, then glided away… it was epic)

So, because of these shenanigans I went to the wiki to find more fun things to use. And, I came across this list of environmental weapons sold by NPCs. I don’t think this is a complete list of what’s available, but it certainly isn’t tiny.

I’ve picked up the Fire Elemental Powder for creating some extra fire fields during champ fights. I’ve also picked up the Experimental Rifle and the Experimental Teleportation Gun to help alleviate some JP anxiety and more easily navigate HoT maps.

Do y’all use any purchasable kits? If so, what ones do you find the most useful or fun? If not, have you ever thought about it?

Turning Silver Ore into EoL with Jeweler

Why are you using mystic kits for this if all you’re going for is luck anyways?

I think it’s because he’ll loss the jewel if he don’t use mystic.

Which makes it obvious it not worth it. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes, I use the mystic for the 80% return on the jewels. If I were to use crude or basic kits instead, I’d need to invest a whole lot more silver and gemstones (creating jewels) in order to make the same amount of jewelry that I got out of utilizing the mystic returns. I recognize that mystic kits have a much higher cost/use than crude (10.496c vs 2.13c).

For example, let’s assume that the amount of kits I used in the MW jewelry above was the same as the Fine: 133 kits… it’s likely close to that number. My initial investment of 30 earrings means that I made 103 earrings w/o creating jewels… meaning I saved 412 ore that was more efficiently spent in making more jewelry to salvage. Using crude kits, my estimated ore:luck would change to 1 : 2.86 at best (I don’t know how quality affects return of ‘normal’ mats, as opposed to upgraded and jewels. So, it could be a worse rate).

(As far as I’m aware, the type of kit has no effect on the amount of luck one receives salvaging.)

In my huge wall of text I stated that I’m not saying this is the most efficient use of silver ore… It’s a use that I prefer over putting the jewelry or the mats on the TP. Sure, there are probably more efficient and profitable ways to utilize this ore. And, I certainly would never propose that a person buy ore for this purpose. It’s mats I had for free, so the only out of pocket cost to me was the mystic kits at ~10.5c/use to get a pile of EoL.

Turning Silver Ore into EoL with Jeweler

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

In another forum post I mentioned that when my banked silver ore and ingots are full, I use them to create jewelry to salvage into Essences of Luck. This seemed to generate a little bit of interest, likely because of how useless silver generally is to many people (myself included).

Tonight I found my bank full of silver again, so I decided to record my results of turning it into Essences of Luck. I by no means promote this as the bestest way in the whole-wide-world to use your crafting disciplines to gain Essences of Luck. I just wanted to demonstrate a small sampling of numbers from tonight’s crafting. Whether or not it’s useful to you or pertinent info is up to y’all.

The process was simple: I made 30 topaz earrings, and used the mystic forge kit to salvage them. Any jewels and gemstones I got back I recreated into earrings and salvaged those results. I kept repeating this process until I got no jewels or gemstones back.

I did the full process twice. Once was for the Masterwork Topaz Silver Earring (Green), and once for the Fine Topaz Silver Earring (Blue).

So, here are the results with some minor additional math:

Topaz Silver Earring (Masterwork: Green)

Total topaz nuggets used: 30
1368 Gross ore used (684 ingots)
261 Ore returned from salvaging

1107 Net ore used (553.5 Ingots)

Total luck gained: 4,350
Luck breakdown:
10pt x195= 1950
50pt x44 = 2,200
100pt x2 = 200

Ore : luck = 1107 : 4350 = 1 : 3.93

Mystic Kits used: ??? (I forgot to count)

Topaz Silver Earring (Fine: Blue)

Total topaz nuggets used: 30
1104 Gross ore used (552 ingots)
231 Ore returned from salvaging

873 Net ore used (436.5 Net ingots)

Total luck gained: 1,250
Luck breakdown:
10pt x60 = 600
50pt x 11 = 550
100pt x 1= 100

Ore : luck = 873 : 1250 = 1 : 1.43

Mystic Kits used: 133

For those who are interested in how many mystic kits I used for the Masterwork earrings, I’m sorry that I didn’t think to count them until well after I started totaling up the numbers.

In the past I’ve always just made the green Masterwork, so this was my first time doing this process with the blue Fine… I don’t see much reason to ever do this process with the blue Fine again unless I really want to get another sampling.

As one final addendum, in the past I have received the 200pt Essence of Luck from doing this. It just didn’t occur on this occasion.

Anyways, I hope this very small sampling is some worthwhile food for thought for some of y’all.

For everyone Urban Battleground is a time of change. Most people experience a growth spurt, and notice hair growing in places where there wasn’t any before. Their voice also deepens, and their aggression increases. They might start to wear clothing (or loincloths) of a style they didn’t used to wear just to fit in with their peers. It can be confusing and frustrating, but just remember FotM is a perfectly normal and natural time in every adventurer’s life. o.O

Melee Pistols

Perhaps add a bit of magical support to a melee pistol. Shoot oneself for healing?

Hehe, I like that… maybe taking it a step farther, making the heal huge, but when you activate it you do a little bit of damage to yourself… basically grazing yourself for the adrenaline rush?

What about throwing a handful of gunpowder into the air (causing aoe blind), and igniting it with the pistol’s hammer (causing aoe burn)?

What other kind of profit would I do something I don’t enjoy for? Are you telling me you do things you don’t enjoy for some kind of imaginary profit? Why on earth would anyone waste the little precious time they have in this life doing something they don’t enjoy for something imaginary?

Either you’re trolling me, or GW2 is your first MMO and you’ve never played a jrpg or phone-app game.

I actually didn’t like Ultima and EQ because they were grindy. The first MMO I really liked was WoW. As I said, I don’t do things I don’t like for an imaginary reward. I play games to be entertained.

My money’s on the former.

On the off chance you’re not, ‘cause I can be a sucker like that: Let’s say you really want Trailblazer’s Armor, but you HATE TD. You’ll have to make the cost-benefit decision if it’s worth being miserable in TD to generate the currency to purchase your precious Trailblazers Intricate Gossamer Insignia recipe.

No analysis is necessary – if I hate TD I won’t do it. Trailblazer’s Armor might be nice in-game, but it’s not real. I’m not going to spend my real time doing something I don’t like for that.

Then you and I think a lot alike on the terms of grind vs entertainment. But, regardless of what decision you or I would make, those cost/benefit decisions exist. People are willing to put up with discomfort now (playing for a bit in TD) if it means more potential pleasure later (kickin’ but in Trailblazer’s Armor)… that treadmill and carrot feature prominently in MMOs.

Tying this back to the topic: dailies aren’t necessarily entertaining for everyone… but the 2g+10ap reward can be worth to some people doing something they don’t like for a brief amount of time. Even when they’re not being entertaining, they’re still generally accessible, many people have pointed out the various ways this is the case.

But, I am one of those people who doesn’t really care how accessible they are, I won’t do them if I don’t enjoy the activity required.

Trying to follow the train of thought here. So – the opposite of a hammer rev … you have a melee pistol that CANNOT do ranged attacks.

What skills could you see this weapon doing?

Maybe Pistol whip? Pistol whip v2? Throw pistol?

If we can get some sort of skill set involved I can feel more comfortable thinking outside the box and trying to add to the convo.

Jam the pistol into the enemy’s gut and fire…. 2-hit attack, the second of which does bleed stacks, all within melee range.

Shoot at the ground in front of you, causing the enemy to jump back (knockback).

That’s all I’ve got atm….

Yeah, there might be other means to acquire that recipe, and that will factor into that decision… but that decision still exists… and you might choose to be miserable for a while to gain the profit/reward of creating your Trailblazer’s armor as soon as possible.

There are people who HATE some of the HoT maps (many threads about this exist), but played in there long enough to get map completion, or enough of the map-currency they want/need, etc.

It’s the same reason many people farm mats for gold… many of those people don’t find farming interesting or entertaining (and some do)… but by giving up a bit of entertainment, they earn mats and gold… that’s their profit from doing something they might not enjoy.

Sorry, but you must be trolling me. o.O

Everyone has their price tag in MMOs as to what amount of entertainment they’re willing to give up for the profit that comes with doing something they don’t want to do (like grind/farm/etc).

You do realize that unless you’re a gold seller there is no actual profit, right? It is ALL supposed to be entertainment.

ROFL you seem to be taking the word ‘profit’ to mean RL money. Profit in this case means what you gain in exchange for doing what you don’t enjoy. This can mean gold and ap like in the case of dailies… but it can mean other stuff, too. You give up one thing to gain another.

~EW

edit: and while ideally it should all be about entertainment, it’s not. That’s an impossible standard. It’s about engagement. You can be engaged in an activity, even find it addicting, without it necessarily being entertaining – welcome to MMOs. It’s also about having a broad player base with different interests that need catering to. So, there will ALWAYS be things easy and hard that you won’t enjoy, but the potential for profit (gold, ap, etc) will inform your decision on whether or not you do it.

Actually it’s because they are trying to FORCE me to do game types I do not want to do. Remember, “play the way you want to play”.

And, if Dailies have become something you don’t want to play, then don’t play them. They’re not required. Play the way you want to play.

Everyone has their price tag in MMOs as to what amount of entertainment they’re willing to give up for the profit that comes with doing something they don’t want to do (like grind/farm/etc). Dailies are accessible to do, but that doesn’t mean they’re always enjoyable to do. So, peeps gotta ask themselves, “is the 2g +10ap + whatever else worth it?” For me some days this is the case, and some days it isn’t…

Accessible for casuals and enjoyable by casuals are two different topics inadvertently getting smashed together in this conversation.

Ranger Pet Botting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

This is allowed behavior; as it was designed to function that way.

Isn’t there a mastery skill that auto loots?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Advanced_Logistics

if yes, then it’s not just a form of exploit but botting, caused by a poor game design and the ignorance of Anet staff. I’ve seen a ranger camping at mob spawn area with very defensive equipment and skills to keep his pet alive. This definitely sounds sketchy and must be reconsidered for a fix.

Not sure how you missed this thread, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Please-a-clear-statement-re-AFK-farming, when locating this old thread.

^Yep, it has been covered in the link provided. You should go and read it. Bottom line-no big deal -it is allowed unless 3rd party software is used or player is found to be AFK by a GM. AFK is not botting btw.

You’re wrong. It isn’t allowed.

Best learn to actually and comprehend. You can farm all you want, 3rd party software=no. AFK is not botting. AFK is another issue that can be dealt with by a GM if they meet the 3 requirements for a kick/suspension. And just above from a DEV
"

EphemeralWallaby.7643:

Tl;dr intentional mechanics that allow pet kills to give experience and loot =/= permission to afk farm.

This is absolutely correct.

If your pets are doing the killing and your mastery is doing the looting; you’re okay as far as GMs are concerned. This does not mean design can’t/won’t/should/shouldn’t update the system as it works today."

First, you seem to have missed the above line by Chris, “AFK is fine as long as it is not used to facilitate unattended gameplay.

Second, for my quote you used just above, =/= means “does not equal” just to be sure we’re clear on that. The immediate response to my quote above was “this is absolutely correct.” The context of that exchange was to establish that just because you are mechanically able to do something, doesn’t mean it’s okay to do it by policy.

Third, AFK farming as it’s generally practiced atm does violate all 3 rules stipulated above in Chris Cleary’s statement.

AFK farming isn’t okay to do… even w/o 3rd party software. It is unattended gameplay violating the 3 rules, and it was made clear that ANet does not want to see it happening.
