Seizure Warning

EphemeralWallaby.7643

It would be nice to hear from Anet about any settings tips that might be helpful to reduce visual “noise”.

I can get behind that.

I’m also severely epileptic. Many of the restrictions listed by Pax I must follow, too. Unlike Pax, I do have medication that’s effective to suppress my seizures (otherwise I’d probably be dead by now). But, that doesn’t mean there still aren’t problems… and even decently suppressed I still have a few Grand Mals a year.

Even on working meds giant zerg battles like at Teq give me headaches. Too many players creating so many flashing lights. I enjoy Teq, so I try not to be too much a part of the zerg, otherwise I can mostly only AA and look away from the screen. Turrets, hills, and ranged combat are my solutions.

But, that’s my choice to play Teq. To those that say, “don’t play,” ummm… no. Many times there are means to reduce the risks/effects, and when that’s possible to figure out I see no reason why I should abstain from the game. I also really respect the OP for reaching out and finding suggestions from the community.

OP, I wish I had more advice for you than what’s already been given. You do have my sympathy and I hope you can find a way to enjoy the content you want to play.

Good luck and good hunting to you,

EphemeralWallaby.7643

So I been reading this for awhile and I asked support and this is the response I got.

Thanks for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team!

We appreciate your report. Map hopping is something we’re aware of but since players are still required to put forth effort even when changing a map, it isn’t technically considered an exploit. Should you come across any players abusing any of the rules on the Terms and Conditions please let us know!

So with that being said as long they purposely exploit a map then it would be ,but its not in this case.

While I don’t do hardcore farm I rather people play the way they want within fair play and not have misinformation being spread around.

Thanks for the post, Ferever.

(I am still going to refer to as an “exploit” since it does exploit the game’s mechanics and I’ll interpret Support’s response as “it’s not considered a harmful exploit”, which is entirely up to ANet to decide.)

I think I’ll remain skeptical for now. As I recall during the AFK farming debate there were discrepancies between the support team comments and others in ANet… though I admit I could be misremembering (I don’t want to take the time right now to pour over all those posts/threads).

Also, I still don’t wish to support an action that can give equal rewards for failure…. I still feel that breaks the spirit of the game. But, that is just my decision for me… for anyone else, ymmv.

Not if your immobilised

You can’t do that on land either, so what’s your point?

~EW

You can still attack , block, blind, Condi clear, heal all of which you can’t do on the surface of the water.

It’s like getting immo mid air. There’s nothing you can do.

Which has nothing to do with my point… which is only that while you’re on the surface of the water, you can still dodge. Dodging is still an available action.

~EW

And you cannot dodge if you are immobilised, which risen like to use as the first skill often. Therefore you cannot dodge.

Removing an immobilize is different than dodging. Two separate actions. That doesn’t change the fact that dodging is available while you are swimming on the surface.

My comment was not directed towards the usefulness of the dodge, nor suggesting it’s available no matter the condition you’re inflicted with. All things being equal, dodging is as available on the surface of the water as it is in the water as it is on land. It exists. That is all.

You’re picking an argument that does not exist.

~EW

You can but that doesn’t change the absurdity of having a few places in the game where you literally have access to no skills yet enemies can still attack?

You call it an absurdity, I see it as just another (minor) challenge. If you can’t wait out an immobilize, you have a very faulty build. And, an inch into the water and you have your skills back. This is a non-issue.

It depends on how you spend your time in the game – what I do rewards bloodstone dust most.

What specific elements does the game have? I can think of PvE, PvP, crafting, and that’s about it off the top of my head.

There’s also exploration, narrative (like personal story, LW, or lore), meta and world boss events, role play, build experimentation (my personal favorite), AP chasing, wardrobe chasing, collections, resource farming, tutoring new players (and new guild members), running a guild, guild events, WvW zerg, WvW solo and small party shenanigans, raids, fractals, dungeons, jumping puzzles…

…that’s what I’ve got in addition to your list off the top of my head.

Penalties for trading items for gold?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

No, it’s not against the TOS to trade with other players. However, trading directly (ie. not using the Trading Post) isn’t supported, and so if either party ends up getting screwed over, Anet will not replace the items or gold. They can discipline the person who did the scamming if they’re reported, but that’s it.

Edit: Sending/receiving a large sum of gold MIGHT trigger some of the RMT flag, but you can contest it with proof of your transaction with another player. Another important thing to keep in mind is that you can only take 500g from your mail and guild bank per week. So, if you try to trade your item for more than 500g, you’ll have to wait for the reset to get the rest of your gold.

It also wouldn’t hurt to put a blurb in the mail describing why so much money is getting sent…. just in case the item/money does trigger on ANet’s radar, at least there’s some additional context for them to have when they’re initially looking into it.

What things do you find fun to do in games in general? The answer to that might help you find direction.

As far as repetitive tasks are concerned, don’t do them unless you actually find them fun. Seriously. I know it can be difficult to do. Don’t make the reward your motivation to do anything, only the journey… the game has many elements to try and appeal to as many people as possible, but that likewise means that there are many things in the game that don’t appeal to a wide variety of people.

I’m sorry you’re feeling discouraged. I hope you’re able to find your entertainment. But, if you become sure you can’t find it in GW2, then you ought to move on to another game… don’t waste time being miserable, and don’t feel bad about moving on.

Good luck.

free if u play WvW and Eotm.

At max tick it gives from ~150 (eotm) to ~200 (wvw) each 5 sec. Each track has 20k points. 20000/ 200 (taking max possible tick) = 100 ticks. 100 ticks * 5 min = 500 min / 60 min (hour) = ~8.5 hour. So, 8.5 hour = 2 clovers. 77/2 = 38.5 * 8.5 hours = 163.6 hours. Lets say you playing 2.5 hours of wvw/eotm a day, so, 163.6/2.5 = 65.5 days = more than 2 monthes.

please, quit with this pvp/wvw kitten from here.

Yeah, gods forbid that putting the components together for a Legendary require a significant time and resource investment.

AB chests do not drop any raw gold. The only way it introduces gold is if someone vendors stuff, which as you said does not happen often.

They are guilty by association. The myriad of bags you get out of the chests do often drop a couple silver each.

And, I vendor a ton of stuff when I loot after Octovine… most notably trophies (that come out of bags) and the many minor sigils/runes I get from salvage. Vendor trash contributes a lot more to new gold than many people seem to think.

Help with a WvW roaming condi build

in Warrior

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

It’s very poorly thought of, but I had a lot of fun with a pure Settler’s build. Using Superior Undead runes gives it effective Condi, and with a near 4k AC, enemy burst builds are just shrugged off. For trait lines I used Def, Disc, Bers. For weapons I used sw/sw + sw/torch; though next time I go out I’ll be trying sw/axe + sw/torch (for the torch 5 + axe 5 combo that does a ton of burning damage + super-fast adrenaline building. It might be worth giving up the 3rd condi, torment, and the sw 5 block).

Again, Settler’s gear seems to be largely poorly thought of, but kitten if I didn’t find it a lot of fun.

It’s not commonly known that the most efficient way to cure a horse of hiccups is to launch it 329 feet per second towards your enemies.

IRL activities generating in-game rewards?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

But it would have to be a stand-alone game. I can’t see any developer encouraging people to not play their game.

Yeah, this.

Not necessarily. The company would have to make sure that whatever activity is done outside the game would not be preferential to playing the game.

And the benefit to this would be that people who aren’t logged in (because of work, commute, whatever else) are being encouraged to keep thinking about the game. It’s similar to why dailies exist: to keep the game in the front of people’s minds.

If people are thinking about the game, they’re more apt to spend money on the game… at least more money than if they’re not thinking about the game.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Sometimes an exploit involves no extra work. Back I think in late 2012 early 2013 they updated the game and a typo was made on some karma gear that made it really profitable to take it and salvage it or mystic forge it to something else. Those who had purchased a huge number of them were banned. So don’t think that just because the game allows it, that it’s not an exploit.

Exactly this.

An exploit involves using game elements and mechanics in ways that are not intended by ANet.

This is why AFK farming was an exploit (that was punished), even though up until recently the mechanics of the game made it possible to do.

Whether the multi-mapping AB chest farming is an exploit ANet has yet to comment on. If they think it is, then a fix will eventually be implemented… regardless if they decide to punish players or not.

Even though ANet has yet to punish anyone (that we’re aware of), that doesn’t mean they think it’s an okay thing to do. We just don’t know right now what they think of it.

I will try this.

Please give it a go and let me know what you think.

For me I find they demonstrate most traits in one beasty that you’ll find spread amongst most creatures in the game. …namely the word ‘optimal’ caught my eye.

From my experience ‘optimal’ is chasing the jackalope. There are many viable builds, and that’s intentional so a person can better meld their play style with the options available.

If GS + Sw/Sw is something you want to do, then I say do it and find the build that makes it work. Kitten optimal. For the Warrior, you’re looking at a hybrid build and there a few solid options that will make you feel like you’re wrecking your opponent…. even if you’re not considered ‘optimal’ by others.

~EW

Like me, you obviously been around awhile. I understand your point, but you over-estimate society. Times have changed a lot over the past 10 years. and the average gamer is not willing to sit around and be patient and won’t endure being reminded of that. You are correct, no MMO is supposed to be the sole provider of electronic entertainment, but that is not what the majority of MMO gamers expect these days. Those days are behind us. Distractions are aplenty and loyalty is scarce. Positive was and is still a good thing, and hopefully remains that way. That was the hope of my “band-aid” to bring something positive to the community. Perhaps my suggestions are unreasonable, but I believe that the current state of MMO gamers has evolved to needing band-aids more so than patience. Personally, I hate the idea too, I just think that’s the reality of the times.

If your suggestion would in fact help bring a bit more peace to the aggravated/bored/etc players, then you can certainly count me in. I don’t think we’d know for sure unless it is tried; though I do have my skepticism as noted above.

I don’t think your suggestions are unreasonable… my criticism stems more from an efficiency stand point. Whenever I see any suggestions for any kind of improvements, the first thing I always do is try to imagine if I were in ANet’s shoes looking in from the outside. I firmly believe they’re trying to make a solid product to please as many people as possible… but they have limited resources and will always have to make tough cuts in what they could/want to do that’ll largely revolve around their bottom line. I think the general cost-to-entertainment ratio gives a better return with new content over nostalgic or previously released content. (I also recognize that what I imagine for ANet’s perspective isn’t necessarily correct… but it’s a start, I think)

I certainly agree that loyalty to games still exists very strongly, especially in the older gamers… That’s why I do try to help people understand that it’s okay to be polygamerous. GW2 has made it easier than a lot of MMOs to come to accept it.

Maybe I do overestimate people’s patience… but we can’t learn it if we don’t take the opportunities we’re given to do so.

Nope, you just misunderstood the purpose of my comment: there are those in the community will remain saying the same kinds of things no matter what ANet does; and a band-aid is not a good solution.

The solution is not on ANet’s head to spend time and effort rehashing or porting old content. They’re working on new content as best as they can, and that’s where their time is better spent.

The solution is for the community to remind each other to be patient, enjoy what is there, try be positive (or at least constructive), and remember that no MMO is supposed to be the sole provider of electronic entertainment.

Given that this is the official GW2 forum I’m surprised ANet folks don’t post here more. Oh wait, I forgot… they are posting on Reddit instead. Does that make Reddit the true GW2 forum?

These forums are more about the community bickering conversing amongst itself with occasional interjections and announcements from ANet. It’s the playground where the teachers keep an eye on the kids who’re playing together, and then step in when appropriate/prudent… not a playground where the teachers play with the kids.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t watching what’s going on, and considering what they see. These forums are a wealth of information about their player base zeitgeist. But, they are under no obligation to reply to suggestion threads… nor do I think they should be… it’s a waste of resources paying for that labor that can better be directed to improving the game by paying for dev labor.

new stats combos

I use toughness in a lot of my builds, and I drop way less often then those who don’t bother with it at all. HoT has demonstrated that ANet is trying to break player reliance on glass-cannon builds. Also, I don’t think that more variety of glass-cannons is as useful as other possible combos. So, I’ll stick with my toughness gear as well as my hard-earned Celestial. Thanks, though.

P.S. If you do think those combos would fit your play style better, then I do hope you get them (or some non power-creep version)… they just don’t fit mine.

Why not reuse old content during droughts?

Threads complaining there’s not (fast) enough new content vs threads complaining that there’s not (fast) enough new content AND ANet is covering it up with laziness.

Kittened if they do and kittened if they don’t.

From my perspective, it makes no sense that this game still limits itself to a small set of stat prefixes, which are arbitrarily divided into some that can be crafted and sold, some that can be crafted but not sold, and some that can’t be crafted.

I’d like to see a modular system where each of us can choose, in the crafting process, the stats we want. 3 stat prefixes would use three kinds of activators, e.g. to make zerk, it might take 3 parts blood, one part claw, and one part totems. To make Marauder’s might be 2 parts blood, 2 parts claw, one part totems, and one part azurite.

The current system seems difficult to balance and expand, especially without annoying disruptions to the economy, gating, and binding.

While I agree that it’d be nice to be able to more easily pick and choose my stats (oh gods yes it’d be nice), it honestly doesn’t make much sense to do from a business perspective.

Since GW2 is ‘trying’ to limit power creep and have a more horizontal character growth at lvl 80 (by focusing more on skins, etc)…. well, it makes sense we’ll see new stat combos solely with expansions. We all want new options to explore, so by adding them trickle by trickle with new content it becomes encouragement to purchase new buyable content. And, any new content needs some type of treadmill to keep us logging in, because MMO… hence the discrepancy in ways to acquire certain pieces.

I think it’s likely we’ll see a condi-focused stat set with boon duration in the future… It’s only a matter of time…. and treadmills.

after I fully unlock berserker elite spec whats usually the next step? I see alot of people like a special weapon type with berserker build like mace/bow, I myself would really like to keep it around gs + a/a and use shield and mace for cc from time to time, is this possible? or will I need to redo alot of everything lol

So whats usually the next step lol. thanks agin

BTW I like this so far but im clueless about the gear that would work best for this, or what stats would work best with this?
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Berserker_-_Greataxe

Your link at metabattle is for a PvP build. The stats for that build come from the “amulet,” stating a primary of Power + Precision, and a secondary of Toughness + Ferocity. The closest translation to normal equipment you’re going to get to this is to mix berserker’s with knights/captains as stated previously. Another more squishy option would be to invest into Maurader’s (Pow, Prec, Vit, Fer), but perhaps that’s better when you’re more comfortable avoiding hits. If you go to the Warrior’s section of metabattle, and scroll down, you’ll find the WvW suggested builds: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Warrior

Imo the next step is to learn all your weapons if you haven’t already. This is so you can know what you’re likely up against when you fight another Warrior.

Likewise if you want to put in the time, learn about the more popular WvW builds on Metabattle for all the professions. Many players use them, so they’re the more likely builds you’ll come across while roaming. At the bottom of each build you’ll get a blurb on how those builds are best countered.

I’m personally not a big fan of metabattle nor using metabattle builds in most GW2 modes, but knowing about the ones you’ll likely come across can be worthwhile since you plan on spending so much time doing WvW.

It is going strong. Their financial numbers are still up although not as strong as when it first came out but still up there but that is to be expected. It is going strong despite 4 years of people saying “this is make or break for the game”.

Where I am arguing that I did not say it was fine is in content and what they are doing to keep players. While the game is going strong itself in terms of $$$, I do question some of the way they handle information and content.

You will never hear me make a “chicken little” statement saying “This is make or break” or “If they don’t do this or that players will be leaving in droves.” Four years of those inane statements and the game is still making a lot of money. So the game is going strong.

This has largely been my perspective, too.

Did HoT ruin GW2?

Yea i tried it and the maps are still dead

I feel that I’ve read many posts over many threads made to the effect of ‘the HoT maps are dead, so that’s evidence that it’s a failure.’ Enough times that I’ve been pondering this a little (I’m open to the possibility I’m mistaken about the frequency I’ve read such posts). But, is it possible that something else is going on?

The HoT maps have more meta events requiring a larger player count to participate. So, it’d make sense then that the player base needs to be more proactive about getting on populated maps… Players now use squads and taxis a lot more in HoT maps than in core Tyria maps to help make sure the meta events succeed.

So, if someone just solo ports in to a HoT map, then it’s also more likely they’ll jump into an empty map because that’s how the megaservers were set up to do in reaction to full(er) maps. This then might create a false perception that HoT maps are empty, when they’re actually just more consolidated due to player proactivity.

Thoughts? (again, I’m open to the idea that such claims aren’t as frequent as I currently think they are).
