You get plenty of Tomes with daily login rewards and plenty of Festival Bags during Festivals, but you do not get plenty of Boosters from anywhere in-game. So I don’t understand this change. I can’t see exchanging Boosters for Festival Bags as an attempt to please players.

I suppose there’s a small chance that between festivals, the “guaranteed seasonal item” could be boosters… very small chance probably… but we’ll find out soon enough.

Why should I change my perception?

1) Your perception is based off of unrealistic expectations and a lack of information.
2) Your perception is likely to lead to blood pressure medications.
3) Your perception is abrasive and does not incite constructive criticism and discussion.
4) Your perception is not the only plausible one, and you asking that question admits to that possibility. It’s always good to attempt to see the world from other perspectives.
5) Your perception disallows cheesecake.

And why is it so hard to acknowledge a problem with GW2?

It’s not about acknowledging a problem… it’s about your reaction to it being disproportionate to the problem.

There are so many people defending Anets intention of a thing I would call lazy work or a bug. Give me a reason why they shouldn’t do anything about it.

1) It’s their game, and not yours. While any one of our suggestions about improving GW2 might be worth considering from a standpoint of pleasing their audience, ultimately any problems or perceived problems are theirs to act on as they see fit and aren’t subject to a player’s perception of importance.

2) You don’t know why it’s happening, you just assume it’s a bug or laziness on ANet’s part without any proof of your own…. where as others have given you reasonable doubt about it being a bug (or at least a way to understand it from a narrative standpoint)…

…sorry, that was 2.

Like all problems in life, the solution comes down to 1 of 2 choices. Either 1) Quit taking it so seriously, or 2) kill it with fire. edit: Occasionally there’s a third solution: cheesecake.

And I find that you’re just arguing about semantics rather than facing the problem. I could have also said I find it illogical and it ruins my gaming experience instead of using the term immersion. Now what’s your explanation on NPC’s changing their looks every day?

See, words don’t change a thing about Anet’s failure.

It’s not semantics. You’re using a psychological concept to legitimize your assertion (you even put it into your thread title), and your use of the term is inapplicable. On top of that, it’s a rage post with hyperbole (like, “changing their looks every day”). The failure here isn’t with ANet.

And that’s another point of having an immersive game. Open world games do much better than GW2, having no loading screens, no separated maps, just like a real world. That surely does kill immersion in GW2, too.

If you want to play a game that lends itself to extended or frequent periods of immersion, you don’t play MMOs. And, if changes to the game world upset you, then you certainly don’t play MMOs.

Familiar with the Skinner box (rats, not pigeons)

Doh! I wonder where rats turned into pigeons in my brain… hmm…

edit: found it… pigeons also get used in operant chambers. So, it’s rats OR pigeons. Thank you wikipedia!

What you’re missing is that a great many people, myself included, found value in getting the boosters. Not enough value, perhaps, to outright buy them with gems, but certainly enough to mitigate any disappointment from not getting a BL ticket scrap or dye.

I think I did cover it when I said, “getting something feels better than getting nothing.” At this point we’d just be arguing our personal views of what is nothing.

That’s just unprofessional. Not only does it ruin the immersion, it shows that they are not even able to assign a certain look to a certain NPC. What’s Anet excuse this time?

I find that people who tend to cry out about their “immersion” being broken tend not to understand what immersion actually is.

http://www.psychologyofgames.com/2010/07/the-psychology-of-immersion-in-video-games/

I’m highly skeptical that you’re in an immersive state accepting ‘believable behaivor in the game world’ just before you come up to a NPC milling about that pops up a dialogue box when you click on him/her. Especially if you recently saw a loading screen, fiddled with your inventory or hero panel, or interacted with other UI elements… you know, that entire myraid of things that remind you that you’re playing a game instead of feeling like you’re a part of that world.

edit; Tl;dr: I doubt your immersion is/was broken. Instead your complaint seems to be that you don’t like changes in npcs without being hit over the head with reasons why they changed.

I have in a couple builds. The Charr’s Shrapnel Mine works really well in conjunction with the trait Bloodlust if you’ve taken the Arms trait line but don’t have any reliable sources of bleed.

Warband Support has been useful for distracting large waves of foes to better wade through them in glorious slaughter.

I’ve always argued that one person’s “junk” is another person’s useful utility item.

Usually those who keep using “junk” when referring to the common drops from BL Chests either didn’t understand the “gem store sampler” concept behind chests from their introduction before BL tickets/scraps or expect every chest to include some highly valuable item they could sell, which if true that item would no longer be highly valuable.

Or, option 3: we understand what a skinner-box is, and equate getting what we see as “junk” as equivocally the same as getting no grain pellets when we pigeons peck the buttons.

Getting something still feels better than getting nothing… but that feeling is the only value to “junk,” and is why this black lion skinner box is a bit more sophisticated for our pecking pigeon selves.

Hello,
I have been playing GW2 since release & have bough quite a lot of key during this time.

With the recent change of the BL key, I have now no more reason to buy the key Chest.

I think the picture of my inventory will be pretty clear on why.

I own permanent bank access, TP & vendor, which means than the temporary vendors are useless to me.

Before the change, I could get booster which are quite nice in some instance; recolt buff, battle(for raid, MCM) or XP (thanks during the HoT release), you get the points.

Now I don’t get any booster, only the useless one time access, which means I won’t buy the keys anymore as I will really have only just useless piece most of time.

The gems you were spending on keys you now can spend on boosters. Problem solved.

Warrior DPS Build PvE

I was thinking about this in terms of a warrior filling a dps role in a dungeon/fractal/raid group. It would never be better than other classes at dps, but how good could it get? This means that I’m assuming there are other people there to give you buffs, so I was assuming 100% quickness uptime from the resident chrono.

What if there’s no chrono in your group, then?

I guess I’m too solo-minded in builds.. in that I don’t ever build in consideration of what others are giving to me, since it’s not something I can depend on always getting. It’s also why I’m super-skeptical any time I see test golem stats when someone has piled on all the buffs they can get; that’s not anywhere close to realistic from my (limited grouping) experience.

Classifying some items as “account bound junk” is not the same as saying “all account bound items are junk.” If I get a merchant express from a BLC, that item is account bound junk (to me), and I can get nothing for it… I’d rather have the ToT bag to use or sell at my whim. No, they’re wrong because they asserted that boosters have an inherent value, when boosters don’t… therefore their supposition of a value loss is incorrect. If they want to personally value boosters higher than ToT bags that’s their choice, but even that means it’s a subjective loss in value they’re arguing, not an objective inherent loss.

The issue people in general have is even if they didn’t want boosters they are inherently more valuable, as per the game economy, than a ToT bag.

Boosters value is 100-150 gems, approximately 30g.

ToT value is currently around 5 and a half silver, or less than 1 gem.

There is a value loss of nearly 100%, that’s a huge disparity, and the other QoL improvements don’t make up for that loss of value.

That’s not an inherent value. ANet artificially sets the prices of the boosters… if they set them to 1 gem, you’re argument would be completely invalidated.

Do they change the prices for boosters? If not then it is an inherent value.

Through “promotions” and packages that include boosters, the prices do change.

~EW

I wouldn’t count packages, and a sale isn’t changing the price.

Yeah it is. If the price were inherent then it couldn’t be changed… even if that change is wrapped in a “promotion” or package, the price is still being changed.

A 50% increase of a statistically negligible chance isn’t worth it.

Of course it is.

Nope. If your chance for an item is .0002%, then having it change to .0003% is still statistically negligible, and thus not worth it.

Plus, the way rare items go into a 4th slot seems to indicate that the generation of a rare item doesn’t work the way you and others seem to think it does. From dulfy:

“When you get an uncommon or rare item, you will get a 4th slot.”
http://dulfy.net/2016/11/01/gw2-halloween-black-lion-chest-and-vibrant-dyes/

That implies that the key/chest generates the shot at a rare, not each individual slot in the chest. In other words, there’s no correlation between your chance at a rare, and the amount of slots that exist in the chest.~EW

That’s how it works now. “Now” being the situation under criticism. It didn’t work like that before.

Sorry, but I don’t remember anyone ever saying that you could get 3 rares in the black lion chests. If you’ve got link to such a thing, then that would mean you’re right and it didn’t work like that ‘before.’ If you don’t, then the chests could have been restricted to 1 rare at most for all we know.

And, the BL Ticket Scrap is worth 10% of a BL Ticket, which means it’s worth about 5-6G. On average, I would get one every 2 chests. So, that’s a loss of 2.5-3G to get 5s.

With the removal of boosters and the categorization of the item types, the loot tables and percentages have likely changed. You might not have lost that 2.5-3g scrap. You might have lost one slot and gained a statistically significant higher chance at the scrap, significant enough that the average output of scraps might still be around what it was… we just don’t know either way.

Remove ToT bags from every other source in the game.

Put them on the gem store for 100 gems for a regular, 150 gems for a personalized.

Do not change the current loot table.

Is it still worth 30g to you?

Still worth 30g? I never said they were worth 30g in the first place…. boosters also aren’t worth 30g. But reduce the price down to 5s (or 1 gem), and the ToT bag is worth it, while the booster still isn’t.

ToT bags are worthless, unless you open thousands. I’ve opened around 1000, and have nothing note worthy. BLC, like all things in this game depend on your “luck”. But then from playing PvP for a year and a half off and on, I’ve had 12 ascended armor chests, 7 weapon chests and 14 ascended rings. I guess my luck is going else where.

A ToT bag you don’t want is worth at least 5s+ on the TP, where as account bound junk you don’t want is worth 0. I’ll take the 5s over 0c any day.

Other alternatives to tactics are defense, which doesn’t have anything useful for dps

Armored Attack: with no additional toughness you still get 100 additional power.
Cleansing Ire indirectly gives you more dps by allowing you to fill adren faster
Cull the Weak is effectively a 1.6% damage boost.

Yeah, those are minor and not the best, but they’re still useful. And, I realize I’m being pedantic; sorry.

Arms has some useful things being adrenaline regen, and some minor dps boosts, but not as much as tactics since they are mostly condi based.

I disagree a bit here. Dual Wielding increases your damage by 15% just because you’re attacking 15% faster. Bloodlust is an additional 5% when your enemy is bleeding, and it certainly doesn’t need to be bleeds you apply… the 33% longer can be effectively ignored (but if you want to add bleeds yourself, then roll a charr and use shrapnel mine). Rending Strikes for my build usually keeps up at least 3 stacks of vuln, and I’m not geared in ‘zerk gear. So, if my enemy is bleeding I do roughly +23% dam… that’s more than I get in tactics.

I find myself thinking that when ANet hires new devs, proof of a thick-skin is a mandatory quality.

Its sad no doubt but the lineage experience shows that once you let the RMT and bots abuse everything gonna fall piece by piece.

Watch the video, skip to min 12 and think how nice would be having Kessex, Malchors leap or mad king labyrinth like that. Not saying that GW2 is nearly close to such disaster, just telling ya how things can go wrong very quickly by not taking actions, Fortunately the F2P model here is better. the community cares and Anet does the same so im not worried bout GW2 future with some bots around i just remembered the l2 disaster watching teh video and telling Inoki my experience there.

But, that’s just it: they’re not going to ignore it. They’re not going to just let it happen. They’ve been proactive agains such exploitation for the entire existence of the game, and there’s nothing to indicate that anything has changed.

There is no flipping a switch to stop the botters… it’s a problem that requires research and problem solving… it’s a problem that requires patience on the part of the players to see a solution.

Have some confidence that the company wants to fight for its game’s survival. Don’t assume that the company is taking no action, just because you’re not seeing immediate results…

That’s a very sad “sky is falling” perspective.

GW2 employs people to actively curtail bots and gold sellers. Solutions might not be quick, but that doesn’t mean no one’s doing anything. Bots, gold sellers, and their ilk have always existed in MMOs… the companies do the best they can to fight ‘em, and the perpetrators do the best they can to circumvent the preventative systems. It’s unfortunately a cyclical relationship, but it by no means predicts a game’s death.

When the merchant is placed inside I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem quickly finding a spot to double-click to interact with the chest… maybe I just got lucky. Even when this is done to ore nodes which have a much smaller radius than most/all HoT chests, there’s always a place to double-click if you take a few seconds to try and find it.

An alternative to removing the capability of dropping these merchants might be to make it so when they’re dropped at a chest, they drop on the top… that way the chest can easily be clicked on, but so can the merchant. But, since I’m not a dev I have no idea if that’d be easy/easier to program as opposed to outright merchant banishment or interaction priority change.

Please no food themed weapons. Legendaries should look epic, not goofy.

Bah, you’re no fun. :P

I gave up on the concept of legendaries looking/being epic when I started seeing sunrise/twilight/eternity by the handful at large events like Teq.

Future Legendary Weapons

First off, does anyone know when the next legendary will be released or how often they are released? I know they stopped producing them for a while after making the shortbow so that they could focus on Living Story, but since they released Eureka I’m guessing they started doing them again? Idk.

No one knows the possible timeframe except those who work for ANet. And, they’ve been sticking to their policy of “not talking until it’s ready to ship” pretty darned closely.

Anyway, to get to the main point of this thread, I’m curious; what do you guys wanna see in the rest of the second legendary line? What do you think of the current ones?

I saw a silly suggestion some time ago for a rifle that shoots pies. If wanting to kill moas and mordrem with pies is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. Edit: if you want to read suggestions for new legendary weapons, the threads are endless.

On the one hand I’m kind of glad that my guess was right. On the other hand I’m disappointed it’s not hidden behind some kind of scavenger hunt.

Easy enough to fix. Hand someone your credit card, close your eyes, and count to 10.

If they have goofy hair they always answer. The rest are silent automatons walking the streets posing as one of us. Is why I can only party up with goofy haired toons at this point. My paranoia is real! :O

Super-sayan Charr, ftw!

Examine other players gear/builds

Ime people are more often crueler than kinder to strangers in MMOs. OP, all the positive reasons you give also have negative possibilities/iterations.

- Newbies can examine similar classes and can get a guide on what build works or what gear set they should be working on.

Newbies won’t take the time to learn why some builds work synergistically and why some builds won’t… It can stunt a player learning the game, just like for those who ape the meta and never venture outside of it.

-Raid groups can critique their member’s gear/builds better.

Raid groups who know each other also already know each other’s builds and how well the person plays their profession. Raid groups that don’t know each other won’t generally critique another’s build outside of kicking them for not having the correct build.

- Being able to check ppls gear helps ppl who PUG Raids, Fracs greatly.

Same reason I gave above. It doesn’t help a person to be kicked with little/no explanation. It makes one feel unwelcome in the game more often than it motivates them to try harder.

-In WvW, if your dueling someone and he’s just super awesome, you can check his gear and build and maybe learn from it/copy it.

Even more blame and harassment for using cheese builds. Also, this creates a meta-game where someone will examine someone off in the distance, see what their build is, and quickly change theirs to compensate. This also keeps a person from starting a dialogue with their rival asking about their build which could wind up in a new friendship.

It’s probably my bad. There’re many comps that while trying to load into an area can’t handle all my Charr’s awesomeness when he’s there.

You guys are saved. I read this thread, went home yesterday, and sold 500 of my 1800+ MC’s. Problem solved! Not to mention, that 300+ gold helps with my current crafting endeavors.

You deserve a meme for all the good you just did!
