Sword and Hammer Need Reworks Badly...

in Warrior

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Yes I’ve said this game. Gw 2 follows Gw1, it’s the same universe. But I was talking about a warrior concept as a whole… You won’t read/see in any other fantasy depicturing warrior as fighter who slowly kills their enemies by bleeding them to death.

That’s because none of them are awesome enough to have what we have…
…a WOODEN SWORD!!! O.O

(death by splinters is a horrible way to go)

As you mentioned, sword #3 is lackluster and should apply some conditions instead of a power dmg attack.

I’m quite okay with it doing a power damage attack. Even if it applied conditions, the slow wind-up means it’s still only good vs stationary targets… which is a problem in non-PvE content (except against downed opponents, maybe?).

If I were to buff it, it’d be one of the following: 1) you can move while it’s casting (iirc you can’t), 2) it casts quicker, or 3) it does extra damage for each stack of bleeding on your target OR each unique condition on your target.

About the Meta and constant complains

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

I still wonder why people still submits to this form of elitism, where they have to set aside their favorite classes in order to participate on a Meta which isn’t really needed…

I don’t think it’s elitism. Meta requires no thought for a player to parrot, and there’s easy-to-find info on how to make the meta builds work. It means the players can get into the game faster and do the content knowing they’ll be effective at it. When it comes to group/raid play, focusing on meta makes it easier for the groups to have/know their synergy. Groups need to be able to work together, and I think it’s understandable that there are some who’d like to do what they can to increase the odds they’ll be victorious… the meta means groups can skip the ‘learning about what the others are doing, and trying to figure out how to best apply that to the challenge’ stage of content requiring that level of organization.

That said, I don’t bother looking at meta. My endgame is build experimentation. I get an idea, and I try it out for a while. But, I also don’t group, I have no guild, and I don’t (yet) raid. I find the PvE content a blast to solo, and my build experimentation (I think) has taught me the ins-and-outs of my main profession (Warrior) better than I would have gleamed from playing a meta.

If/When I get into raids, higher tier fractals, etc, I do plan on trying out the meta builds. This is because I’ll be able to quickly learn the content I’m facing, and some of the things useful to overcome the content. After that I’ll bring my own builds to the battlefield… by then I should be playing with a regular pool of players who know me and I know them; players I know how to work together with.

Congrats!

Haha, thank you guys.

I did also want to kind of get what other people feel about the account-bound BL skins too. When they were first released, there was a bit of an uproar about them being Account Bound at first…snip…

I think the uproar came from two parties: the first is those who wish to make money off of skins. The second is those who want to get a full collection, but not use tickets for all of them. Personally, I think both concerns are legitimate.

However, there are always new skins being added that are tradeable, and as long as that continues I don’t see any reason that the other format shouldn’t exist simultaneously. Like you I also appreciate the fact they’ll never be more than 1 ticket each. I also agree with your suggestion that a completed collection for this type of skin should have a title… it just feels right. +1

…snip…

Not all weapons shine in all game modes… it sucks, but that’s the reality.

The 1-h sword is awesome in PvE with a hybrid-build. The AA does more condi damage than the necro scepter when you’re fighting more than one enemy. Savage leap is better for closing the distance and enacting leap finishers. Final thrust is admittedly only useful against stationary targets – so pretty exclusively PvE-worthy there. Impale lets you stack torment while you’re doing other things. Riposte is a fast-cooldown block that rocks against ranged attacks, since ranged attacks don’t end the block. If you go berzerker, then you also get a lot of fire damage with your burst. 1-h sword rocks in PvE…. so if it sucks in PvP, oh well… as I started this post, not all weapons are good in all modes.

As far as the hammer, I’ve fallen out of love with it… and that makes me sad ’cause that was one of the huge draws to get me to try Warrior.

Much better than empty Lab maps with upset players. I for one am happy to become a mindless zombie along my hord of undead friends. <3

I prefer soloing/duoing in the empty labs. Every time the zerg swarms by I can’t get in tags before everything is killed…. and last night when I was trying to stay on the other side of the map from the zerg, they got upset that I opened doors near me. I wasn’t even a member of their zerg/squad, and I got a message that I’d been kicked…. I didn’t know that was possible.

Tonight I’ll be jumping maps until I no longer see a commander tag.

About crafting, there’s not a limit on how many crafting specializations (idk how to call it) you can get? I sort of remember there was limit of two, right?

There’s no limit to the amount of crafting disciplines a character can have, but you can (default) have only 2 active at a time. To switch an inactive to an active, you’ll have to pay coin… 10 copper per level of the discipline you’re activating. You can spend gems to have more than 2 active at a time.

(darn it, ninja’d) By the time your character is lvl 80, you will have enough hero points to unlock everything, except your elite trait line. So, just level and seek out hero challenges to buy up the triats/skills that you currently don’t have open.

Imo play around with your traits and skills to figure out builds that work for you and (more importantly) you enjoy playing… for most/all of the content those’ll be the better builds to use. Once you’re more confident in your profession, then check out the profession sub-forums here for ideas on new or tweaked builds you may not have thought of.

Halloween: Mini rip-off

Some people pointed out that the price for a Mini Bloody Prince Thorn is contradictory:

  • Official Halloween vendor: 10.000 CC
  • Sonder the Seller: 6000 CC

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Candy_Corn_Cob

It might have been overlooked by the ANet devs… mistakes happen. It might have be that the way prices are programmed into these specific vendors they have a lot of difficulty reprogramming them. It might be a trick to go along with the treat. It might be that the devs purposely do things like this to keep these forums active. Regardless, buyer beware.

The other question I have: Is it possible to get 120.000 Candy Corn in 2 weeks? Without using the trading post?

If I were still a teenager, and playing hooky from school I’d give it a go. But, I’m many years and many gained responsibilities away from that time.

We’ve got Mini Gwynefyrdd (110k) and the Shadow Raven (120k). How do you feel about these prices?

I don’t care. They look cool, but there’s a lot of cool looking stuff in the game. I have other treadmills more enjoyable to pursue. Congrats to any who has the desire, money, and time to get one.

DR was still havin its affects on me and pretty badly if I do say so ..I was only getting Karma and Copper from doors at this point. So I asked around and people said to switch or do other events. So i switched charas to one that’s never been in the lab this year and STILL, just karma and copper from doors and only mobs were dropping treat bags for me and not a lot after a good while of playin.
I’m currently logged and waiting til reset as i heard that can reset the cap on it. Hopefully it does..

Anyone else have an experience like this??

When to use which salvage kit?

Thank you for the replies but what is TP?

Selling them on the Trading Post instead of salvaging them. I’d rather get the crafting mats from salvaging them, but ymmv

To elaborate a little on what I said previously, I don’t use the Black Lion kits on my rares because I use them up fast enough on the exotics I get. I’d rather have the better chance at globs of dark matter AND the ectos by using them on the exotics, instead of just globs by using them on rares. But the better chance of mystic kits to get globs is why I use them only on rares and (sometimes) exotics… don’t waste the mystic kits on anything less.

this has been brought up probably as many times as the mounts suggestion. I don’t think anet will ever do this.

Well I hope you’re wrong cause this is seriously frustrating and downgrading my quality of life in game.

I share his opinion: this comes up often, and it likely won’t be addressed. Treadmills are a primary way MMOs stay lucrative, and exploration is a tried-and-true treadmill. As things currently are, the best way is to try to approach it in the least grindy way you can. For example, when I was leveling my new main, I did only one map per day at most… and a few days when I wasn’t feeling up to doing hearts, I just ran around killing trash mobs going from waypoint to waypoint – something I don’t mind doing at all. For me that lessened the grind to more of the treadmill I think is intended.

The suggestion/solution/compromise I’m most fond of is for a level 80 to be able to exchange a gift of exploration for core-tyria map completion (w/o gaining any xp from it, nor new gifts of exploration).

Superior sigil of speed can work really well.

It’s probably more that ‘anything in between’ requires more thought and effort to build effectively. A skill never/rarely required in earlier content when it’d be a good time to learn it.

Update on the Economy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

You are deliberately missing the point. People shouldn’t be forced to buy mats off the TP to get what they need in a reasonable time frame.

I actually disagree with this. The trading post should always be the most effective way to get the things you want.

A big draw of this game is “Play your own way”, and the trading post is the backbone of that philosophy. The fact that virtually everything in the game rewards sellable loot, and most things can be bought with coin, means that you can get practically anything you want by doing practically anything you want. Structuring the game around the TP is deliberate, and I would say, necessary.

There is a difference between it being the most effective way and it being the only reasonable way, and you people are stubbornly refusing to accept this. I never said it should be more efficient to farm your own leather. I said that it should be reasonable to do so if you wanted to. And currently it is not.

This is ridiculous how much you guys are defending a broken system right here. If you want to use teh TP that is fine, but it should by no means be the only reasonable way to obtain the mats you need.

Exactly what would you consider reasonable?

For anything except for legendary weapons, things for time gated components need to be earned by a player who plays 3-4 hours daily by farming within ~25% within a period of two days assuming that the player spends 30 minutes not farming. So if it take 100 random item to make special object, I should be able to farm ~75 in two days while taking a beark from farming for 30 minutes each day.

Legendary items should be expected to fall within several months.

Ascended gear is optional and more along the lines of a luxury. There are also various weapons that require lodestones making them take a long time too. In either case, a player can easily get 150 thick leather within 3-4 hours without using the TP.

Where is this magical farm of thick leather because I don’t get anywhere near enough to multiply out to 150 in 3-4 hours?

SW Chest farm? Open up all bags/purses w/ your level 80, and salvage everything instead of selling it.

Learn all the weapons your profession wields. Different weapons work better with different builds against different content. Over all, knowing all the weapons your profession can use means you have a better understanding of how that profession works. On top of that there might be an “awkward choice” that you find most fun to play, or meshes best with your play-style… you won’t know until you test ’em all out.

Thanks to this new balance patch, raid diversity is effectively dead.

Necromancer can not out put anywhere near mediocre ele DPS, and so, is irrelevant.
Heralds were weak as-is, now they’re worthless.
Chronomancer was so demanding that now it’s effectively dead too.
Engineer? Lmao.
Thieves? Just get an elementalist.
Guardians? Never really saw the light of day with raids.
Anything but magi druid? Lmao kick.

It seems like anet wants raids to not be harder, but simply more annoying and less enjoyable from a class perspective. It also seems like anet is back on the “we love eles” train, considering they’re pretty much going to be the only DPS class that sees action (thieves are generally subpar).

A lot of my friends threw in the towel as far as raiding goes (we already have 150+, they were just fun but now they’ll be significantly less so), chronotanks and necros, crap, nobody received this patch well because all of the classes (save guardian a LITTLE, and Engineer) had their own place and niche.

I still can’t believe chrono took such a hard hit over WvW. No one thought to split balance? Why can’t they revert these changes and do them right? Is anet actually understaffed or something? It makes no sense how so little is being done with the community of such a giant, profitable game.

When no specific profession is required, then balance shall be obtained. Maybe. Maybe not.

In the profession forums, the saying isn’t, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.” Instead it’s generally, “if you don’t have anything negative to say, don’t say anything.” Considering player reactions in the profession forums right after a balance patch is not a great idea.
