T6 Leather (Developer AMA on Reddit)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Personally, I do meta events as well as other events all the time. I do Dragon Stand at least 4xs a day, for example. My MF is 232 (unbuffed) after 20 months of playing the game. After one DS, my average for T6 leather 3 pieces. I salvage everything. I have completed Agent of Entropy 614 times . Aside from farming all day to get multiple stacks of T5 leather for the toilet, what else is there to do for T6 leather?

What kind of salvage kit do you use? Because, none of what else you mention in that paragraph matters one lick for your ability to get t6 leather from salvage. Only the “chance of rarer materials” given by the kit you use does.

New Legendary Weapon

So I just read through the review of the new legendary process on Dulfy and it’s basically a grind and buy mechanic now for all future legendaries. This is pretty disappointing as it’s just boring. Grind currency, by precursor. Rinse repeat.

I understand that they couldn’t figure out how to make journeys without spending development time on it, but isn’t that the point? With the new system, you might as well just get out a CC and buy it off the TP. It’s just as meaningful.

Getting a legendary should be about crafting it by digging through the massive amount of lore that has been written for the GW franchise. Teach us about your world ANet by earning something really cool in the process.

Right now, the system is just “Push 1 to win” and that’s just sad.

There are plenty of posts in the legendary weapons thread to the effect of people being quite happy with no narrative journey so long as new weapons get developed. One player’s grind is another player’s treasure.

Do you feel like playing with alts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

While I occasionally have dalliances with alts, my heart and time are most given to my main. I get ideas for builds and purposes that’d work better on other professions, but I always come back to making those ideas work on my main and giving them a go instead.

My alts get parked for farming. I log them in on the weekday evenings to gather mats as a way for me to relax for bed.

On those rare occasions when I log in alts to play them instead of farm, I always feel daunted by the prospect of leveling them and building them up to be close to on-par with my main. That feeling is why I instead tailor them to a specific purpose (WvW zerg, solo dungeon, etc) when I feel like playing something a little different.

If a dev decides to take on this request, I’m sure they will post to indicate that.

Should any devs wish to consider the problem, then how about as possible solution: when 2+ possible things are in range that could be interacted with a mini window pops up allowing you to choose which one you want?

P.S. I think it’s less of a case of accidental, and more of a case of inconsiderate… on those occasions where it’s not outright griefing.

What do you all do after the dailies?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

On weekday evenings my time in game is super-brief… so I just farm mats and make time-gated recipes after I do dailies… if I do dailies at all.

On the weekend when i can play longer, I play around in the various HoT map meta-events, do a bit of WvW, and recently I just started a weekly key-farm. Soon I plan to reattempt learning to solo dungeons (once I settle on new builds worth trying).

Toughness and Vitality

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Toughness is useless in WvW. Im at 2600 or so and still getting hit with 6k vaults and 4 to 5k heartseekers.

I’m assuming you mean your total AC is 2600… if that’s the case, then that’s not enough to be very useful against full berserk/glass-cannon builds.

The Settler’s Ele I’m working on will have an AC of around 3.7k and be immune to crits… effectively shutting down any glass-cannon builds… I’m designing it specifically for WvW shenanigans (deciding on traits is where my hitch currently is).

I used partial Settlers at one point – it can work. I’m currently ripping apart my ele for the third time to get him where I want him. He’s the only toon I can’t get sorted comfortably

Ever tried Celestial? Fun stuff! XD

I have thought about it. I may make a full set sometime and try it. Just takes too long to make

It’s a big investment, true, but I love running around PvE with my warrior in ascended celestial everything… You get a pretty comfortable amount of all stats, including enough toughness/vitality to feel the difference

EphemeralWallaby.7643

As a full Knight Necro, I disagree about Toughness being useless. When we have 3 frogs at octovine in AB and everyone is on the ground, I am still hitting the octo with 50%+ health… When people aggro mobs at towers in DS they get downed in seconds, I can have 15+ mobs on me and still manage to run in circles until forever. When people die in dungeons I am the person who revives them while mobs are tickling my back. So far I haven’t died and only got downed 3 times on HoT maps since the expansion came out and I’m actually proud of that. So yeah, I want to keep my Toughness, thanks.

Agreed, for much the same reasons; I love toughness. I’m currently working on a Settler’s Ele that I have really high hopes for.

Mastery Point Unlocks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Your screenshot shows that you’ve earned 38 mastery points. 18 in Core Tyria (2 unspent), and 20 in HoT (2 unspent). That screenshot also gives no evidence that you’ve been shortchanged mastery points…. you’ll need to go though your achievements that grant mastery points 1-by-1 (as well as count how many HoT mastery locations you’ve unlocked), totaling them all up to show how that result is different than what your current screenshot shows you’ve earned.

I suspect that you are the one who’s miscounted.

Sorry, this is bad advice. Because you cannot salvage the temple armor to get back those hella-expensive Runes of Strength when you don’t need/want them in that armor set. Temple armor is fine when you don’t need to slot expensive runes into it…. this is not the case for a PS Warrior.

No, you’re mistaken. The thread you linked is about toning down revive in PvP only, with a dev comment discussing a change specifically/solely for PvP… And, Revive Orbs don’t work in PvP, they’re PvE items only.

I think there’s two other factors worth considering.

The first is that as you play the game you get better at it…. the stuff that was challenging when you first started is going to be much easier once you have a grasp of combat, builds, etc.

The second is the Dynamic Level Adjustment. Personally, I think it’s very flawed. If you are naturally of the same level as the lower-level zone you’re in with blue/green gear, combat is noticeably more challenging than when you’re lvl 80 decked out in exotics, but ‘level adjusted’ while in that same zone…. a trash mob that takes 5-10 hits normally now takes 1-3; a veteran that takes a bit of strategy to defeat now is face-rolled. I think a more “accurate” DLA would go a long way to making PvE more engaging.

Reviving the Revive Orb

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Except “Surrounded by 50 Chak” is now one of the better places to use it, since you’re going to be locked in combat forever anyway.

Previously, Revive orbs were handy if you died somewhere obscure, like falling to your doom in a jumping puzzle or getting ninja-ganked by a flung rock in Bloodstone Fen. Now, with health regen and move speed snared for a full 60 seconds, it loses all of its “Get up and get back to exploring” function.

Before, it was a nice tool for resuming exploration after a misstep or lingering damage from a won battle (Condi or lingering area-denial) Now, the Revive orb has lost any sort of function outside of getting back up (instead of WPing) during a world boss fight.

I completely disagree. If you’re “somewhere obscure” then it’s still as useful as before… a min is nothing to wait out… much faster than wp and running back in most situations… and you can still run around and move about with more than 1hp and the crippling movement that existed previously. You can still continue your jumping puzzle or whatever else obscure thing you were doing when you died… AND still take some amount of falling damage or whatever while that 1 min is ticking down…. and, if you’re in a non-combat situation when you use it, guess what? You have a healing skill you can use!

If anything it retains it’s previous benefits of “get up and get back to exploring” and now has additional usefulness like when you’re “surrounded by 50 chak.”

Healing: Healing Signet
Utility: Shake It Off / Banner of Tactics / Signet of Might
Elite: Signet of Rage

edit: I’m a jack-of-all-trades and master of none, I can switch out to any weapons/traits/skills as I see fit for whatever challenge I must face…. Ascended armor - worth it?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

It’s worth it for my needs… but they’re likely not the same as yours. I’m making ascended celestial everything.

The main reason I’m doing this is so that I can test builds on what ever character I’m playing without having to purchase/craft new armor/weapons. This also has the added benefit of not having to use up storage for any old gear that I think I might come back to (I have much of my bank devoted to this purpose).

A second reason is that it gives me a long-term project to work on…. very long term. I don’t expect to be done until the spring. Despite it being long-term, every week or so I’ve got a new piece to show for my effort.

So for me it’s not about the stats, it’s about having an endgame treadmill that benefits one of the things I love doing in the game: build experimentation.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

I think this is a brilliant idea.

Perhaps they could be treated as a form of ‘invisible armor’ skin for the head, chest, shoulders, and gauntlet slots instead of the OP’s suggestion of them being applied under armor… In this way there’d be dye channels to customize the coloring of the tatoos (or warpaint for the Charr, as Razor above suggested). The existence of the chaos gloves seem to indicate that the tatoos/warpaint might be possible as an armor skin.

My preference for the feel of the weapon is rifle.

However, as far as performance goes I agree with what others said above:
For a power build, single target, and/or fast adrenaline gain use rifle.
For a condi/hybrid build and/or multiple target use the bow.

When you add the Berserker elite, the rifle becomes a fantastic hybrid weapon (gunflame), and the bow becomes a carpet-bombing super-weapon.

The first idea that pops into my head is to challenge yourself to do dungeons/fractals solo. At least, those dungeons/fractals that don’t absolutely require multiple players (like 3 players stand simultaneously on pressure plates, etc.).

It takes a lot of time, effort, dying, and build(s) consideration to conquer them solo… but it feels really good when you succeed.

Small QoL change to Sword auto

in Warrior

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

The lack of a condi on sword’s hamstring in comparison to Necro scepter is balanced by 3 factors:

1) the sword chain attacks faster than the scepter chain
2) the sword can hit 3 targets, while the scepter can only hit one,
3) The sword’s bleeds have a base duration of 8 sec, while the necro bleed has a base duration of 4.5 sec, and poison a base duration of 6 sec. edit: For a one-on-one fight the scepter is better on this point, but once 2-3 mobs are in the fray the sword is better.

A fourth but minor balancing fact is that the base damage and damage modifier of the sword is higher than the necro’s scepter, making it shine best as a hybrid weapon as opposed to a condi-only weapon (especially when considering the other 1-h sword skills, main and off-hand).

I think the sword is fine as-is, even when compared to the necro scepter.

Lots of good tips here but I wanted to add leap skills can be a huge asset for particularly tough jumps. Thief’s staff 5 is a low cooldown leap that lets you pretty much point your mouse where you want to land and end up there.

Engineer 5 skill on the rifle is a ground targeted leap as well.
