Here is a free-bee then: Headbutt* with Lyssa Runes. That combo carried my f2p zerker ammy core warrior to diamond in 3 days at the end of last season, back when warrior was trash-tier (*obviously I had to use signet of rage but headbutt works way better).

Wow… there musta been a lot of tears shed by mesmers and condi-necros, lol.

Really rare for me to encounter a well played enough Mesmer or Necro as plain vanilla war with CI that can bring me down. I run cleansing and generosity on sw/sh and GS though. Gives me 2 condi clears on wep swap, and a clear and a condi transfer, which is pretty funny.)

Lol Sigil of generosity? really? this is pretty funny. I’m not knocking it though. extra condi cleanse about every 12 seconds when fighting is pretty cool

I play around with sigils a lot, right now leeching is broken, and the amount of decent ones is pretty slim, never been a fan of the on proc like air/fire, the damage is nice, but usually when I play an mmo I try to play outside the norm.

Ditto. I find it fun to come up with unconventional ideas then test how they pan out.

For example, atm I’m trying out the sigils of Agility and Mischief on my bow, so that when I swap specifically to put down Combustive Shot, I’m much less likely to be interrupted. Is it good or bad? I’ll find out.

I don’t use berserker gear on any of my characters ‘cept one and it’s only for specific areas in some dungeons.

I have a hipster-ish aversion to berserker gear…. and I like build experimentation.

My personal tastes fall into the category of ‘I don’t care how long it takes to kill something so long as I survive.’ If some people think it means I’m choosing the ‘lazy-mans’ approach so be it, I don’t have to stop and rez everyone who becomes champ splattered.

Another option is to implement a faster time-out for players that are sitting without moving their character. The issue is that if you make this timer too short it would kick players who merely walked away for a few minutes. There is, however, a balance to be struck here. Honestly, I think this option is the more likely scenario. Ten minutes of sitting without using skills or moving—and you get kicked to character select. You could also have this disabled in certain “safe areas” including cities and settlements that don’t have events.

Another “save area” would have to be where World Bosses spawn. It’s pretty common practice to port early to a world boss, and just wait until it spawns.

I think another alternative would be to disable the ability to set heal to auto-cast. Heck, perhaps extend this to include utilities and elites, too. Does anyone play with their auto-cast on heal/utility/elites?

Ridiculous unfair damage difference

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Guys stop it.

It is not about how much damage I take with a glassy build.
It is not about how good or bad we both are.
It is not about a l2p issue.
It is not about which builds we play or should play.

It is about both running very offensive builds and him doing 4x times more damage in less hits than me, both using highest damage skills available for each class.
It is about he can kill me with 3 hits and I need to land 12-15 hits to do the same.
It is about the burst disparity between professions is at 300-400%

It is clearly a L2P problem.

^^This

@OP: You’ve established you’ve spent a lot of time playing your mesmer: over, “2500 hours.” But, have you played Warrior at all? Part of L2P is learning what other’s are bringing to the table; their strengths and especially their weaknesses. Then, learning to react and adapt.

Spend some time as a Warrior if you haven’t. If you learn the class you’ll learn the counters to the things you find frustrating. Just dueling your warrior friend isn’t going to be enough to learn this stuff.

Balance is more than just damage numbers… the strengths and strategies of builds feeds into the why’s of some coefficients being significantly different from one another.

This is why people are bringing up builds and all the other things you’re outright dismissing… because the problem you’re having is more complicated than you’re believing it is.

Draining + Gun Flame?

in Warrior

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Hehe, that’s what has me excited most of all…. The wiki states there is no internal CD… so every 2 1/2 sec during berserk you potentially get 1k healing per target, and +1k damage per target… and during the 10 sec of berserk CD you have RB, or kick, or stomp, or weapon swap to hammer/mace to get even more until berserk + gun flame is back.

Please let me know how it works out. I don’t have the mastery points to access the vendor yet, so I can’t test it myself for a while.

Runes of and Sigil of Strength are definitely desirable in dungeons/raids… especially (and importantly) when you trait Phalanx Strength. Other runes to consider in this vein are Hoelbrak, or Fire (good w/ King of Fires trait).

1-handed/torch is only good if you’ve got the condi stat to back it up. But, berserker trait line is definitely worth using even if you don’t use torches or condi stat. Berserk + Adrenal Health is a beautiful thing.

I’m really not the best person to give this kind of advice, so please take what I say with that grain of salt in mind…

As far as WvW goes, there’s a ton of threads in this section with people posting their builds, roaming videos, and discussing feedback… digging in those threads would be a good place to start answering your WvW questions.

Your soldier’s gear gives you a good base-line defense to start tweaking your gear to fit your needs.

If you want to go for more DPS, you can start switching out for pieces of Berzerker’s Gear (pow, pre, fer)… This gear tends to be very popular in all modes, so last time I checked it was still kinda spendy on the TP… another means you can utilize is the karma merchant Keeper Jonez located in the Cursed Shore at the Cathedral of Silence… he sells exotic zerk gear for karma.

If you want to go for more sustain, then some pieces cleric’s gear (HP, Pow, Tou) can help there with the current iteration of Adrenal Health trait. Exotic Cleric gear can also be found at the the karma merchant Historian Vermoth located in Malichor’s Leap at the Cathedral of Zephyrs if you don’t want to buy it off the TP.

If you want to try and add more condi damage, but still keep high physical damage, you can start with some Carrion pieces (Con, Pow, Vit) which can be bought of the TP, and eventually switch them out for Sinister (Con, Pow, Pre) when you can get your hands on it. For this style of hybrid in WvW I think the popular choice is mace/shield (utilizing the Distracting Strikes trait), whereas you’ll find sword/x good in PvE. Hybrid builds are especially good if you plan on going with the berzerker trait line.

There’s also the 4 trait-bonus HoT gear, but I haven’t touched it enough to make any claims about its desirability to use.

Sigils and runes will greatly depend on how your build develops. There have been a couple threads recently in this sub-forum discussing sigils, and I’m sure there are plenty more on the following pages. If you don’t trait for condi-cleanse (Cleansing Ire, Versatile Rage, etc), then I highly suggest you make at least one of your sigils a condi-cleanse. Rune of the Trooper is also good in this area, too, if you’re running a shout build. Imo there’s no such thing as too much condi-cleanse, ymmv.

The runes are going to be heavily dependent on what traits and gear you wind up with too… so reasonably-priced suggestions for this is hard… I tried making a list, and it wound up so long and diverse that I felt it wasn’t helpful.

After you’ve started figuring out the gear/traits you want to use, that’s the time to start looking into runes and sigils, imo.

Oh, and I also recommend making sure you have some sort of perma-speed buff… either through the Warrior’s Sprint trait, or the Rune of Speed, or the Rune of the Traveler.

I hope you find some of this helpful.

best sigils for maxing out gs damage?

in Warrior

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

So…just for my interest. DOES Force and Night stack together to 15%? It should given the rules right? Force and night are from different category of sigil. I mean Force and 10% vs ghosts (or whatever) works right? Then since Night is from the same category as vs ghosts it should tooo…..unless some special exception was made by anet but its not on the wiki so…

!!!?!!!?!!! CONFUSION

I personally run hydro+ fire for the extra aoe damage during crits. Leeching is way better if you like to roam solo imo but fire shines in larger fights.
I recently changed from leeching to fire due to the pop changes with the server merges and haven’t looked back.

Fire is also something which works rather well with PVE as I’m too lazy to make alternate GS

Fire does kitten damage though…I mean air is barely competing with hydromacy atm and fire is even less. I get like 800-1200 dmg (if i recall a few days ago correct) with air and up to 2900 with hydro since it can crit unlike air. Hydro won’t always hit and I’m not running hammer so I don’t have to worry about swapping to and from weapon sets every 5 seconds. I think a 5%-10% flat damage increase is gonna serve you infinitely times better in zerg fights than a single fire proc. The fire proc on its own is gonna barely dent an hp bar on its own.
Plus fire is only procing once if u are fasthands and using weapon swap to its full potential. I guess I could argue the same with air though and say something like….if u wield for 6 seconds u could potentially get 2 air or 2 fire bursts out of it so who cares. Fire still does kitten compared to air imo, I won’t look at it again. I think you’d be better with hydro and intellegence so the hydro crits….compared to fire. I mean you are definitely better with intelligence if you run the basic 50% crit rate or 70 with fury since ur likely grouped.

Because Fire is an aoe, it procs more adrenaline than air when there are multiple mobs… that would be the advantage of fire over air.

Fire procs off the enemy, where-as hydro procs point blank from your position… so fire has the advantage over hydro if you’re using it in a ranged weapon.

It all depends on your build and weapons as to which sigils work best.

You can look at the wiki and see where the events spawn instead of relying on the map chat. I want to say that most of the events have less than a 30 minute cool down before they start up again. Many are on a 10 minute timer.

As I mentioned, it’s only a rare occurrence anymore.

What I do instead is make sure I have a weapon that has a higher chance of getting tags, and then I just wander around the map killing mobs and farming nodes until I stumble on an event…. it might take a little longer, but it’s more enjoyable. Rushing when map-chat says something or researching on the wiki (in that specific manner only – I love researching the wiki) isn’t very fun for me, and since I play for entertainment I strive to avoid such unfun things.

Since I’ve been on the other end of the ’can’t get a tag’ and ’can’t get to the event in time’ stick, It’s also my approach now to just tag and not kill during daily events where there are a lot of people… it’s one of the few things I miss about no longer having a guard as my main: no loot stick.

It’s taking you over 30 minutes on average to find and do a single event on any given map for the daily?

It occasionally has for me in the lower level maps, because by the time you get to an event everything is slaughtered… or even sometimes I can’t get a tag. Many people don’t understand the concept of just tagging mobs so that others can also get tags… and then maybe slaughter them if they haven’t been killed after… 10 or 15 seconds, maybe?

But, nope… when a dozen people are whirling twilight around with huge damage spams and not holding back, they can make it difficult to get tags even when you’re at an event.

AFK gaming..

So it seems like they just have to decide who is doing it on purpose and those who just afk in the middle of a map because of something that happened in real life not allowing them log out the second it happened. (Which happens quiet frequently to me at least)

That’s the trick, and it’s likely evaluated on a case-by-case basis. It wouldn’t surprise me if they have the tools to determine how long a player has been standing in a general spot, or if someone DC’d. Length of time afk in a place where mobs regularly spawn is likely very relevant….

and I don’t see them being punishing for brief stints of afk… instead hours/days/weeks of standing in the same spot and not being active are probably what matters.

This is allowed behavior; as it was designed to function that way.

This is an older post about afk rangers letting their pets kill stuff while they afk in a spot and the Game Support Lead said it was okay (although I’ve seen this type of discussion about Necro minions and Engi Turrets)

I didn’t bother doing Griffonrook when it was up the other day so I can’t be 100% sure but for the normal achievement Griffonrook does not require the bomb. On the other hand the tripwire for the puzzle completion on Griffonrook is very poorly places. It is on the V shaped area formed by the rocks on the left of the chest instead of being on the chest.

That’s because there is more than one chest. None of the JP dailies have yet been broken; however, people have gotten confused as to what to do, especially when there are multiple chests. If this happens again, you can try messaging the map to ask how to get credit.

I’ll remember both your advice next time Griffonrook comes up, thank you. It was an interesting JP to try regardless… and after I (and my roommate) gave up on it we just went and slaughtered Inquest in Metrica Province for the daily events with just a little more fervor than usual.

I have noticed that if I wind up facing away from any mob I often loose my lock, too… makes kiting a little more challenging.

This is probably what’s happening to me and Teq: he fears me, making me face away for a moment, and lock is lost… I’ll have to pay a bit more attention to this on the next few fights to be sure.

My problem with Guild Wars 2

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: EphemeralWallaby.7643

EphemeralWallaby.7643

Repeat the mantra: “I don’t need ascended gear” until it sticks. If you can keep yourself to an exotic-only-gear mentality, then it’s gear you can afford without needing to really grind gold… you can get the gold/gear as a side effect of doing other things.

It can be really easy to fall into the grinding mentality prevalent in MMOs, and sometimes it requires just stepping back, identifying that doing X feels grindy to you, and then telling yourself you won’t grind.

Similar to you, I’m not involved with guilds and I HATE feeling like I’m grinding. So, one of the things I find really fun for me is doing large events. Whether it’s the world-boss runs (hopping from WB to WB), or partaking in large Orr/HOT meta-events… it’s getting swept up in a lot of action with people around joining in whom I don’t know. I focus on the event itself – the challenge of being overwhelmed – and let the loot/gold/gear sort itself out later.

Another approach is to do something different every time you log in; never repeat the same thing two days/log-ins in a row. One day you do some SW, then the next time you log in you avoid the SW and maybe do a WB hop… then the next time do a couple jumping puzzles… then the next time do some Personal Story quests with a toon that hasn’t finished it… then the next time a dungeon or fractal… and after a few days of variety, do SW again only if it sounds interesting/fun.

Also, it’s perfectly fine to play GW2 for a bit, then go do other stuff, then come back. Don’t beat yourself up over doing that, either.

I hope that’s been somewhat helpful for you.

I really like this idea!…

You right-click a salvage kit stack (or salvage o’matic), and you get a menu of:

Use
Salvage all basic quality gear
Salvage all Fine and lower quality gear
Salvage all Masterwork and lower quality gear
Salvage all Rare and lower quality gear
Salvage all Exotic and lower quality gear
Destroy

Then, if you choose any of the ‘salvage all’ options, it’d start from the top of your inventory going left-to-right top-to-bottom until either the stack of kits is used up, or no other gear qualifies; whichever comes first.

Is the HoT effect truly passive though? You don’t get the HoT without activating it.

Healing signet has a passive HoT in the truest sense of the word. You do nothing and it indefinitely heals over time.

I appreciate your point, because you made a point. We don’t have to agree

Hehe I probably wasn’t very clear, I’m sorry. Let me try saying it this way….

Pre-patch AH was passive… like healing signet or armored attack… now it’s a skill modification… it’s neither exclusively passive or active… it belongs in category 3.

At most it could be considered a passive effect (HoT) requiring activation (F1 use). But ALL trait-based skill modifications fall into this category, which is why it’s neither can be exclusively defined as active or passive… it is no longer a separate entity; no longer a stand-alone trait.

No, it’s saved a lot of rares.

But removing the prompt when using a yellow or Orange kit would be awesome.

I would agree on this one. I don’t want the confirmation removed on the basic/copper fed kits as it’s possible to be assembly line salvaging all the stuff in your inventory and attempt to salvage a rare you didn’t notice was there. However I don’t really see the point in a confirmation on the kits primarily used to salvage rares and exotics.

Maybe once a week or so when I’m doing assembly-line salvaging w/ basic kits, I’ll accidentally click on a rare… so I’m grateful for the prompt, ‘cause otherwise I’d use a basic kit on them instead of my mystic kits.

For me the prompt is useful.

So, maybe a toggle-option for the prompt in Options is the best solution for everyone? (like Silberfederling and Phokus already suggested)

They don’t feel like a waste of money to me… but I don’t open them up to make money like some people try to do.

This Black Lion Chest Skinner Box doth please me.

I’ll be happy if it’s the Tempered Spinal Blades… they look enough like wings… scary mechanical wings that’ll slice in half birds you fly by.

(no one said the wings couldn’t have jet propulsion )

How does Adrenal Health work?

You are correct: the base healing per stack is 2475 over 15sec = 165 health per stack per second.

One thing to note, you MUST hit with your burst (normal or primal) in order to receive the stacks. This has been tested and reported on in the Warrior section of the forums, in this lengthy thread: Adrenal Health Change

MAY THE STARS GUIDE YOU *gag*

I also would like the npc’s to talk less frequently. It’s not that I don’t enjoy what many of them have to say, but when I’m camped for a while crafting, browsing the TP, whatever, it does get a bit wearisome to hear frequently repeated phrases. At this point I do have my dialogue turned completely off unless I’m doing something in the game that’s story-driven. Turning off the dialogue has been a breath of fresh air.

I’d also like to extend this request to the job-o-tron backpack, Log-r-Tron, Mine-r-Tron, and Reap-r-Tron. I love what they have to say, but I don’t need to hear their puns every-other-gather… especially when I’m farming.

OT: the phrase that makes me ‘gag’ the most is, “Everything has a right to grow.” This is mostly because of the sheer hypocrisy of the statement coming from NPCs who want you to go out and kill stuff.

I’d definitely pay gems for versatile infusions that add extra inventory spaces… Cargo Infusions!

And given that they don’t add to stats, they wouldn’t qualify as PtW; thus a prime candidate for the gem store!

Pack animals?

I’m reminded of the floating cargo disk in Horizons… When it was empty, you’d stow it in your normal inventory (i think, it’s been a while). But when you deployed/activated it, it’d follow you around and give you a lot of extra inventory space. While it was following you, it’d greatly reduce your movement speed. But, you could dock it at any time (make it stationary) and run about w/o it following you or hurting your speed.

It wasn’t fun when you parked the sucker and forgot where you left it, ROFL.

It was an interesting mechanic in Horizons, I thought… not sure how feasible/useful it’d be for GW2, but thanks for the moment of nostalgia.

But what would make me feel more powerful…. unarmed combat so I can punch a dragon to death.
