Leaps are affected by slow and cripple (distance halfed), no melee skill that is not teleported at you will hit you ever. 10s cd becomes potentially 20s with slow, while your cds will be halved. Mesmers will be insanely powerful in HoT. Sword/shield and scepter/focus and you will kite like a boss.

what you are describing is chill.
So i suppose you agree that a Reaper is going to chill a mesmer into submission.

against a bad thief, we will be fine, even vs a good one. But a patient thief will simply kill you. He will wait for you to burn your skills (however long it takes) then get your ds lower (knowing you can’t really refresh it in a 1 v 1 vs mobility, then just out last you with mobility. Once, you have blown your skills, blown your dodges, and have to rely on slow kitten attacks, you’re dead. Just like it is now.

nothing will change, other than thieves, in the new 3 trait line meta, will eat us even faster.

What does a necro get from adding 3 trait lines – uh, not really anything special. because no freaking GM in the third line will give us what we did not have now, whereas other classes will gain that skill they always wanted coupled with the build they have always ran because its already good. So they will go from already good to awesome, while we go from ok, to ok + a skill that does not really give us anything. hhahahah.

Rylock is indeed a good mesmer, but perfectly manageable. We have roughly a tie, after first couple loses I was on winning streak.

Lockdown is pretty hard matchup, but at least for me, far easier than Medi Guard. Once you figure his rotation and interrupt him once, he loses all momentum. Unlike Gaurd.

I find guardians easier to deal with compared to PU mesmers.

PU mesmers go in and out of invis easily and they have a lot of aegis.

The burst type PU mesmers are the most dangerous.

against a guardian just try to save your shroud 4 for his focus shield and it breaks the shield easily.

I think PvP wise, with the current maps of holding points, Necro will be very strong.

Reaper with GS is AoE spec. It isn’t made for 1v1s, that’s clear.

As for other Reaper variations, we’ll have to wait a see for ourselves.

Guardian GS, d/d ele etc. are mainly aoe too and yet they can 1v1 just fine. I am pretty confident that for Reapers it will be the same. Though i think staff will be mandatory as a second weapon set to deal with enemies, who like to kite.

the thing is guardian got teleports/leap instant gap closers and their alternate, a scepter is way stronger than a staff. a staff is more utility.

we do not have fast gap closers. we got a slow plodding 600 range dash that requires reaper shroud to use meaning we have to stay in it and end up draining it.

I so wish Dark Path was faster and more reliable. That would fix everything.

me too. i mean losing a range fear and a 900 range gap closer is massive against a kiter.

fortunately we got a 600 range gap closer on 4 seconds CD…but that would mean staying in RS and potentially losing it just to get closer. you can’t flash in and out of RS.

In fact I think anet wants us to STAY in RS to fight rather than flash in and out.

but honestly, I rather have the range fear than stability/short range ‘melee’ fear

Range fear chance for interrupt is so much better than the new short range fear

TBH necro has always been susceptible to kiting

especially from LB rangers and long range engineers.
I see that worsening if a necro goes RS which is basically melee with a short hop.
Even worse if one of his weapon is a GS.

I know I’ve been shouting around the forums challenging the mesmers to kite us if they can but honestly, I think they can lol.

Seriously, the only good elites are lich and plague. The golem is sometimes useful for being a meat shield. The shout seems awful in PVE and will never see its full potential in sPVP.

Thats only half true. IF the AI would work properly fleshgolem would be amazing. IF the AI would work properly, we would get good dps and CC out of the elite on a rather low cooldown. Actually IF the AI would work properly, i would rate it over Lich and plague (while Lich and plague being more situational skills). The meat shield would only be a nice bonus…

But the big IF is the reason why we hardly see our fleshy…

I agree. cripple on autos, on demand interrupt, 1k dmg autos…
if only the golem AI worked normally like a ranger pet…
I mean why can’t they just transfer the ranger pet AI to a golem?

Yep, that exactly is the build that is suited for PvP.

The standard GlassBow is, with all honesty, not.
Maybe in solo queue, but definitely not an organized match.

I’m surprised to hear that actually. Perhaps I should arrange a duel of my own here. My build simply doesn’t get countered by mesmers, and I rarely find players who present a serious challenge.

I had my ranger for a while now but used him mainly for sniping targets in WvW zerg fights.

I played two games of PvP in him, lost both, but felt that he was dishing out good damage with good survivability.

Rangers are not weak at all? even when I was targetted it took a while before they got me down.

I run LB + GS.

In a 1 v 1 skirmish which finishes when one of the two is dead – a competent thief should win 9/10 times. In conquest, since you need to survive as long as help comes, reapers might be able to run around for long enough to live through a thief’s attacks. It will be a really powerful opponent, though, as will power rangers. Being shot at from 1500 range without good ranged options yourself is bout to be unpleasant.

That is what I thought too. as a necro roamer, I find LB rangers and any type of thieves (except for pure condi thieves) hard to fight against.
Not that it is impossible to win, except with my current skill level, I win mayb 1 out of 3 encounters against decent thief/LB ranger.

which, not taking into account of their changes in HOT, is already going to get harder if DS becomes RS which is more melee and easier to kite. Losing that ranged fear is going to be a real pain.

Just wondering…if this was a 1v1 fight, will CttB be better or Golem?

Golem charge knockdown is faster and longer range and less expected.

CttB requires you to disable your opponent first with a fear maybe to have a higher chance of pulling off, but it adds chill and damage and 2sec resist when it hits.

I don’t know about you guys, but one of the hardest fight is against a thief.

How will a Reaper fare against a thief?
Will the original Death Shroud be better than a Reaper Shroud?

DS has range instant fear range auto + aoe skill4 and taint shackles.

All of those seems a lot better against a thief than Reaper Shroud.

if we do go Reaper Shroud, what sort of weapons set will help?

focus might be a good alternative to dagger, but i’m not too sure axe will fit well in a hybrid build.

Range loses out to a scepter. and scepter stacks bleed and poison easy.
Although axe will dish out faster damage if you get in range, and regenerate more life force…

but i think the range of a scepter still gets the nod…

I chose reaper mode because of the insane chill options.

However

The main drawback is that Reaper mode becomes melee. To compensate for that, Soul Reaping becomes very important. You get increased MS by 25% to get on your foe, you get faster reaper skill recharge to ‘spam’ your 600 range gap closer, and relentless pursuit in reaper trait will ensure that you don’t get stopped for long when you are in melee reaper mode.

It synergizes well with your other traits too. Every 4 second 600 range gap closer also means with path of corruption chosen, converting of 2 boons to conditions every 4 seconds.
Fearing on staff and chill on staff and Reaper’s aoe ‘melee’ range chill also gives you a pretty good chilling options.

The increase attack speed in Reaper mode also means that dhummfire procs faster and more regularly for some painful condi burns with your carrion armor.
