Here’s a long story short I had written with another game as the basis but I have since stopped playing that game. Since I like writing stories I decided to continue the story here. Will update as often as I can. Feel free to comment.

Prologue

This story takes place in a world where mythical beings roamed and follows the lives of a few individuals whose paths will ultimately converge and shape the fates of all who lived within…

Part One: The Hunt

The ground trembled beneath Asger’s still form…and a deep bellow shattered the forest’s serenity…

At first glance, Asger was a poor and plain looking traveler. He was garbed in tattered dark leather clothing and a hooded cloak, with a worn rug-sack by his side. Yet beneath his harmless appearance lies a merciless and deadly soul. He was orphaned from young and had been taken in by the Guild of Assassins. Raised by the leader of the Guild, he was now one of the guild’s best man. That afternoon, Asger was travelling through the forest on his way to Gnash, an immense fortress that lay at the outskirts of the Wolf Duchy (one of the kingdoms in the human empire), erected by the humans to fend off the brutal orcs from the north. The guild had received payment from a noble within the city to take the head of one of his rivals and had sent Asger to complete the job. Asger had barely settled down to rest in the shades when he felt the ground tremble beneath him. ‘What in the world is going on?’, thought Asger…and not long after, a horn’s deep long bellow could be heard…

The leader of the hunting pack stopped suddenly and raised his hand in a gesture that made the rest of the goblin hunters halt behind him. He sniffed the air once. And then twice. They will catch their prey soon…very soon…

Crashing wildly through the undergrowth, was a man clad in bronze armor from head to toe. Edgar was an imperial sentinel and belonged to a squad from Gnash that had been out on its daily patrol when they chanced upon a large orc army camped within the forest. Unfortunately for them, they had been spotted by the orcs and of the entire team of 8, only he had made it out of the chase alive. His captain and the rest of his mates had stayed to hold off the orcs for him to return with news to the city…he must not fail. A horn sounded in the distance. ‘Good…good…’, he thought, ‘their footsteps are getting fainter and the horn sounded quite far off…I must have shaken them off my trail…’. Placing one hand on a nearby tree trunk, he paused slightly to catch his breath. Little did he know it was going to be the last thing he did in this life…

The goblin hunter eyed his prey fixatedly as he crashed through the dark green foliage clumsily. While orcs were generally loud and brutish, goblins were sneaky and devious. Under the orders of his leader, he had split off from his pack and tailed the human at a distance, waiting for a chance to strike, while the rest of the hunters went off in another direction to fool the human into relaxing his guard. The forest had made it easy to hide his presence and track his prey. But it had also made it difficult for him to strike. His weapon of choice was a throwing-axe and with so many trees around, his chances of landing a hit was slim. Not wanting to startle his prey, he waited. And waited. And then, his prey stopped…

The axe whistled through the air and landed with a thud right on the neck of the sentinel. The weakest spot in his armor. The sentinel dropped to the ground, blood flowing freely, collecting into a small pool. The goblin hunter jumped down from his hiding spot in the tree and slammed another axe he was holding into the head of the sentinel. Once, twice, and then again. Grunting in satisfaction, he turned and headed back to his pack. A pair of eyes watched stonily in the shadows of nearby bushes…

I heard somewhere that Necro’s GS will have 2 skills!

skill 3 will be a 900range blink/teleport along the lines of spectral shift
skill 5 will be an invis along the lines of spectral shroud

MY GOSH WE ARE GOING TO GET BLINK AND INVIS!!!!!

it doesn’t need to be balanced. it needs to be OP. IT IS A GRANDMASTER.

a guard’s 16 sec cooldown F1 skill for constant burning for 10 secs is a total death blow on necros.
we are the only class without enough mobility to get out of 900 range against a guard’s F1

mesmers are too strong already imo. they are only weak against thieves if they are not a burst mesmer. they should get some nerf in the new exp. but instead they get overwhelming buff to put them on par with thieves…

I think from what the guards were given, its quite obvious what the necros will get.

guards lacked range, condi build and mobility
guards given LB (range), condi build (traps), some extra mobility

necros lack support, mobility, and shroud mechanic enhancement
necros will be given shouts (support), greatsword (mobility) and some new way to use lifeforce/deathshroud

and ranger druids will get staff marks to compete with necros
and mesmers given wells to compete with necros for a spot in WvW

in short we are getting partitioned off bit by bit to other classes so much so that other classes can all perform a part of what we do and we lose our identity

I recently bumped into a fellow necro WvW roamer and she was running a power/lifesteal build.

She was very strong and had incredible sustain, and despatched many of the enemy roamers 1v1 and 1v2. I asked for her build and if i remember correctly it was full magi armor, superior rune of vamp, with berserker weapons with sigil of blood and berserker trinkets, traits were 40064. Axe/something and dagger/something.

anyone tried a variant of this build in WvW? how does it fare solo roaming 1v1?

I did something that I felt she might have been using here but I’m sure I got many parts off lol and can’t really guess the rest…

well and when I do win against players who LOS, I rejoice even more.

i can see the meta in pvp, tanky mesmer holding point with wells.
no thief will get that point easily

I can see mesmers becoming point holders with tanky wells, replacing the necros.

no thief will want to fight a well mesmer on point

this is for wvw solo roaming

I can’t wait for the new changes to hit!
especially the traitline soul reaping.

Last Gasp Minor Gain Spectral Armor when your health falls below the threshold (50%).
Strength of Undeath Minor You do more damage while above the life-force threshold (50%). Max Life-force increased by 15%.

All the minors are AWESOME and that is not all!

Speed of Shadows Adept III Increase 25% movement speed while in death shroud. Reduces 30% recharge on death shroud.
Vital Persistence Master V Life force drains 50% slower while in death shroud. Death shroud skills recharge 15% faster.
Foot in the Grave GM VII Gain stability and break stuns when you enter death shroud.

I’m planning to go the above 3 traits. LOOK AT THAT.

good MS in DS. but most importantly, DS can be entered every 6 seconds! A necromancer is most vulnerable when he just left DS and can’t reenter for the next 10 secs. but with this, the window of vulnerability has just decreased!

LF drains slower means you can pull off more moves like dark path and shackles instead of just using it for flashing fear, without losing too much of your LF!

stun breaker and 1 stack of stability…i don’t know but hammer/rampage warriors are going to find it much harder to lock me down and kill me before their berserker stance run out…

hahahahahahahahha

path of corruption has its uses! though I agree it is kinda limited but good against even rampage warriors, there is a high chance your path will covert their stability into fear for that small window! It is there mainly though because of the critchance and condi damage in that trait line.

I also think the final 2 points is really hard to decide.
shrouded removal has its uses
staff mastery has its uses
mark of evasion has its uses
vital persistence has its uses

argghhhh

I think flow’s point on staff mastery might be the best choice though. those marks are really important to fight a thief…

with the new shield and well skills, as well as alacrity, mesmers are more than equipped to deal thieves a fatal blow and reverse the age-long sentiment that thieves counter mesmer

ya its dumb if necros get it. we can already enter DS at will to absorb damage if we get CCed. if it just gets forced on us when we get CCed and lose DS, its just dumb.

just imagine, mesmer can manipulate time
necros deal with death
our DEATH shroud now allows us to manipulate death by using it to

revive allies in an aoe affect up to 5 targets,
cause instant death to any downed enemies in an aoe affecting up to 5 targets,
cause instant down state to any enemies in an aoe affecting up to 5 targets
cause instant death to any enemies that were ressed during combat

etc.

I don’t really care about mesmer shield specialization although it looks totally fun…
but look at F5…a new way to use their shatter…it is totally imba
look at mesmer forum thread…they are totally rejoicing…

gives me hope that necro’s new way to use deathshroud will be just as imba

easy way is to not play minions

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts saying Dhummfire is 1sec duration per hit with no ICD.
But I am quite sure I saw 3sec duration per hit with no ICD.

Can anyone clarify?

really depends on your build i guess.

for myself, terror > lingering curse
terror = instant raw damage
lingering curse = over-time damage

I prefer the instant burst since I mainly roam WvW.

With food, runes, sigil, I still get about 60% on all condis and 80% on bleed without lingering curse which is pretty decent.

we don’t have the greatsword traitline yet and not sure how the utilities and armor/weapon stats will change… so it might be a bit premature to set up builds…but I like thinking about builds so here I go!

For WvW roaming…or what WvW will become…
For a hybrid necro scepter/dagger/staff with decent power/condi/crit chance

Curses line: Enfeebling Blood, Path of Corruption, Terror (terror dealing damage is more important than 100% increase duration while on scepter since it gives more instant burst damage which a hybrid burst build needs)

Soul Reaping line: Soul Marks, Vital Persistence, Dhummfire (no cooldown on dhummfire procs? OPPPPPPPP…reduce staff cooldown and generate lifeforce in one? OPPPPP…DS skills recharge faster and drains slower in one? OPPPPP)

Those two lines are the ones I will very likely take.
The last one might be greatsword specialization line if it turns out good for my build…if not, it is a toss up between bloodmagic and spite lines…

The spite line is more offensive with chill of death and close to death
The bloodmagic line is more sustain with regeneration and healing and movement speed from wielding a single dagger! this will allow me to swap out my rune of traveler for a more offensive rune.

This hybrid build depends on bursting your target hard so I think I will still opt for the spite line since I don’t see any rune out there that will allow me to burst harder than the spite line…also having fought high burst builds, regeneration is not really going to save you…

Spite Line: Reaper’s Might, Chill of Death, Close to Death

In the end, condi duration gets nerfed since I won’t have it through traits, so its only food 40%, sigil 10%, going traveler runes means I only get an extra 10% for a total of 60% for all condis except bleed which will get up to 80%…

how about…a hybrid build XD

around 2.1k power and 1.4k condi.

and sorry I only do 80 dmg per torment tick…

true true, I’m not against ppl using LOS since I think it is legit tactics.
But to win someone because you hid behind something is not something I want to do! Not against anyone who does it though. Everyone has their own way of thinking and playing =D

is it worth using a superior sigil of torment for a necro?

I calculated and I only do around 160 damage per tick when I apply torment.

Does the 5 seconds get boosted by my increase in condi duration?
Does it get decreased by enemies’ -condi duration food?

Is it better to just equip a sigil of air?

My problem with this build is it doesn’t really seem to have a role. Yeah you have nice damage, but a lot of it is single target. It seems like other classes would do what you’re doing much better. Is there a reason a team would want a necro with this build? What’s the benefit of this over the traditional powermancer with wells? Not trying to be rude or anything, I’m honestly just curious.

Don’t underestimate the single target burst from a necro!
signet of plague is really OP against condi builds.
even against non-condi builds, it acts as a stun breaker!

means a lot to get endorsement from you guys for the build =D

kiters will always be a hard fight. asuming you are a medi guard, use your JI to teleport to them but dont open with GS 2. Use GS 5 instead when you JI on them. So that even if they dodge, you can still pull them back and follow up with GS 2.

If they try to move further, use GS 4 then GS 3 for retaliation to close the gap. Then swap to hopefully a scepter and bind them.

After that it is just range them as much as you can before going back to GS ONLY when your JI has finished its CD.

If you switch back to GS with your JI still unavailable, you will probably fail to sustain any sort of damage on them.

I rarely PvP though and I know PvP depends a lot on LOS. I just don’t have the habit to LOS in a fight as WvW is more open and there are many times when you encounter enemies in open areas with no obstacles.

It didn’t occur to me to LOS XD. But on hindsight, even if it did, I would rather not LOS as it’s like depending on other things to win a fight. I really dislike LOSing…unless a LB ranger caught me unaware lol…

hmm I feel full zerker would mean a lower condi damage but I’ve not gone to play around with it so you might have a point dawdler!
My set was just cobbled together as I roamed and changed with my experiences so it looks really messy trinket wise!

Also I’ve been getting people telling me my opponents in the video were not good…with all respect to them, they are at least average and a few of them were pretty good and knew what they were doing.

I’ve also beaten streamers TexBlue (medi guard: fought him twice and won both times) and Gladomer (won his warrior and ranger, both condi and power. But to be honest, he wins 3 times to every time I win) with this build or a slight variation of it if it helps…they are at least more widely known and have above average skills…

may i ask what build uses the pistol shooting clone and the hundred slash evade sword attack? heavy condi build. fought one mesmer with this build recently. I won the first fight and lost the second.

The only thing I know to dodge is when his clone starts pistol shooting me which stacks a lot of bleed.

Other than that I don’t know what to dodge or what to look out for. I can’t seem to dodge his teleport and bind + hundred slash evade move.

nah my necro kills bow and hammer warriors easily

in fact, I have not met a warrior I cannot beat while roaming. (not those who change their build up in a duel).

the build you gave him looks very good. except he needs more crit chance. try to push for at least 50% with food and accessories which I think he will get in time with the ascended ones.

ya can someone give that build a try? it looks insanely strong against other condi builds.

going sinister items…makes you very paper…you also have zero stun breaks…you might not survive against other roamers with only two dodges…especially in fights where the enemy has the initiative and you have to survive long enough to retaliate…like a zerker stance warrior…or an interrupt mesmer…or a PU mesmer…

I suggest taking at least one stun break…or go the foot in the grave trait instead of death perception…

Also I suggest eating food like koi cakes for condi duration…otherwise your condi portion is actually very weak in this hybrid build…

Also rune of adventure isn’t that good for a necro…we got an easily interruptable heal on quite a long cooldown to really maximize the rune…that rune might be better for a thief…but not so much a necro…

You might want to try traveler runes for consistent run speed while you roam…or nightmare runes…
