thief’s steal skill will now be separate from their stolen bundle.
their stolen bundle will now show on F2.
they can use F1 again at any time as long as it has finished Cool down and they can also now see their F1 cooldown.

anet calls this a Quality of life change
i call it a buff

does this mean there is hope for necros to see our utility cooldowns while we are in DS? and even use our utilities while we are in shroud?

1st) FOC is 3rd skill on scepter. I needed to get this out.

2nd) I think one change that would make this skill more usable is faster cast time. 1/4 or even 1/2 will be great. the current 3/4 is too long imo.

I’ve just looked at this gear atrocity and can only say a couple things.
If you got a combination of Condition Damage, Power, Precision, Toughness and Vitality and Ferocity(6 stats), then why don’t you just use some Celestial pieces to get more overall stats without sacrificing anything?
In either case looks like a very weak build to me…

I don’t go celestial because my condi stats suffers.
Would like to see your build since my build is very weak =)

Neither of them seem optimal, tbh. And that’s no disrespect to the players, but the build choices seem off to me.

Shinryuku:

In no way is Leg Specialist more valuable than the options available on the Strength, Defense or Tactics trees there. I personally go Defense for Armored Attack and Merciless Hammer, but it’s not the only route.

The sigils are messed up too. Putting air on hammer and not gs makes no sense, and their are far better choices than impact on the gs too. Energy, Fire, Fury, Cleansing (if you need more condi removal), etc. I also put Intelligence on my hammer personally, to ensure those big hits on a stun lock.

Cygnus:

My only gripe on this is, based on the numbers, 4 points into Strength instead of Arms makes way more sense. You don’t stack enough might using Forceful Greatsword to outweigh the dps of Slashing Power so, unless you really need the better cooldown for some reason that isn’t dps, it’s not the optimal route.

I think he’d get more mileage out of full zerk if he can handle it too, but to each his own. Hammer sigils are also weird to me… again, Intelligence would be a better choice than Impact since you only have 4s of stun or knockdown at +10% vs all your big hits (well, the first 3) landing a guaranteed crit. It’s no contest.

Again, that’s no disrespect to the players and I’m a proponent of people doing what they find works for them and is fun. But numbers-wise, I think they both have better options.

Based on your experience of both, changing Cygnus’ food for Lemongrass would give you practically the same condi resistance. No idea why you’d find it easier to get kited on his build either… that 1s immob every 5s from Leg Specialist isn’t that decisive, and Cygnus would have lower CD on the gs movement skills.

engineer is hardcounterd by condition builds, particularly necro. however, it should be noted that these hard counters only come up at an equal skill level, so you can still out play.

that is what i am unhappy about actually.
two equally skilled players, but unfair fight because one happens to be using a class that is hardcountered by another.

Personally I feel that every class should not have a hardcounter/hardcounters.

I feel that any two class when faced off 1vs1, equally skilled opponents should have an equal chance to win one another, depending on build and skills.

It shouldn’t be because certain mechanics and lack of mechanics on either class enables one to start a match with a strong advantage.

For example:

Thieves hardcounter mesmers
Rangers hardcounter necros
Warriors hardcounter Rangers
Guardians hardcounter thieves
Mesmers hardcounter engineers
Engineers hardcounter eles
Eles hardcounter guardians

I rather nobody hardcounters nobody and everyone has a fair chance to win based on skill/build, and not have an advantage based on certain class mechanics.

having had extensive experience fighting good LB rangers, my best advise is:

1) save your dodge for 2 things
1st) his LB knockback (you need to see and know the animation – but note that the reaction window is very small. If you have lag/delay it will be very hard to dodge in time).
2nd) his rapid fire

another thing is, good rangers they use their LB 3 to invis first and you are engaged in a guessing game.
Is he going to use his knockback? should you do a random dodge?

From my experience, yes no choice, use the random dodge if he goes invis and has not used his knockback yet.

This is true. Good players can defeat a full LF necro.

if we extend this to HOT’s spec Reaper Shroud, I think not many Reapers if any will agree with starting with reduced LF like 50% or 25% LF.

Because chances are many RS builds will center around having LF and staying in it. Especially against long range kiters, imagine you start with 25% LF you will just get eaten.

coming back to the present, it is the same. The reason why some necros say we should start with reduced LF is because any or all of the below:

1) their build don’t depend heavily on LF to fight
2) their build can build LF decently/easily

Now there are necro builds out there that have no/little ability to build LF and yet also depends on having LF to fight. To ask these builds to start with reduced LF is like a heavy penalty.

I don’t think we should ask these necros to incorporate some form of LF regen abilities because simply they don’t need it as long as they start with full LF. Having a full LF is part of their build strategy.

I think guards should be toned down a little so that thieves don’t struggle that hard against them.

This is an utterly ridiculous post that warrants no real constructive response. I don’t play my Guardian often as I main a Mesmer but Guardian’s are not too strong against any class. When you stop playing against people who just roll their tongue on their keyboard to play, then maybe you can make such claims on this forum that a class is too strong. Otherwise, you’re wasting everyone’s time by stating baseless claims other than you playing against people who keyboard turn.

I’m not sure why you are hammering my post so hard, but will appreciate if you take your hate elsewhere.

In response to the question of the thread, I would have to say yes. (IMHO) playing as a necro, we don’t wear heavy armor, can’t really block or reflect incoming damage, so our LF is how we compensate for that. i try and start every fight with as much as possible. Don’t let others put you down for using the skills you have. I don’t ask others to handicap themselves before a duel, and I expect them to return the gesture. It’s like asking a thief “please don’t stealth during our fight”. Having full LF doesn’t guarantee a win. I have been beaten by truly great players who were able to down me despite the amount of LF I had in the tank. Other players should just step up their game.

WvW 1 vs 1 Arcana Ele

I have been using a build very similar to this in wvw for about a month now. In large scale combat it doesn’t do too much, but in small groups it is amazing at setting up a kill on a player. As for sPvP it doesn’t work as well in there because of the stat barrier.

While I do agree to an extent, Elemental Surge (The arcane Grand Master) isn’t that amazing, it does have one fantastic use. While attuned to earth your arcane skills will apply immobilise. Immobilise is a very strong condition and makes it so your opponent will stand still and be unable to dodge. Scepter, Earth, 2 is your rock barrier, You can activate it for extra toughness and then reactivate it on an enemy to throw 5 rocks at your foe over the course of about 2 seconds. These rocks, once activated, will follow your target even in stealth, and are not interrupted if they go behind you.

Arcane power is what makes this build pretty great, when activated you get 5 guaranteed critical hits, each of these hits counts as you landing an arcane attack and will apply the conditions based on your attunement. Arcane blast is a 1500 projectile that you can use to catch people and deal a moderate amount of damage.
So with what I’ve told you, you can create a combo that goes something like this:
Earth: 2->2->(3 if you want to blind)->Air:2->3->5->Fire:->2->3(aimed slightly behind them)

This combo basically locks them down in immobilises then bursts them with air and then knocks them down for enough time for your dragon’s tooth to land and your pheonix to hit them 3 times. This will do A LOT of damage. It may not be as high as some other burst builds but it still does a lot.
Pheonix will give you vigor, that is why I haven’t taken any vigor/endurance traits.

As for food, you’ll notice I took the condi duration stuff just to give me that extra time, though it probably isn’t neccessary.

I have a couple of hundred hours in my guard though if I remember correctly.

I find it a challenge as a medi guard against most condi builds.

But thieves? almost no challenge most of the time.

I had my ranger for a while now but used him mainly for sniping targets in WvW zerg fights.

I played two games of PvP in him, lost both, but felt that he was dishing out good damage with good survivability.

Rangers are not weak at all? even when I was targetted it took a while before they got me down.

I run LB + GS.

hi I am a necro main in WvW and I struggle badly against hybrid thieves.

The pistol pistol + dagger dagger or pistol pistol + dagger pistol types.
or uh…what do hybrid thieves use?

They flash in and out, range and melee with such fluidity and dish out so much damage I don’t really know what to do.

Can any hybrid thief share on their weakness and strength?

and do hybrid thief struggle against any type of necro builds in WvW?
I know you can run, but if you stay and fight, any type of necro that gives you a hard or harder time?

I assume by juggernaut warrior you mean the rampage elite skill?
If yes:

check his elite skill

When a fight starts, you must check his status bar to see his boons if it has the usual fury, might, swiftness from signet of rage or if you see him activate his signet, even better. Then you know he is not a Rampage warrior.

If he fights without those usual boons from his signet elite, then prepare yourself for the juggernaut!

Know the skill

Rampage has a gap closer and 3 stuns! It also pulses 3 stacks of stability, gives swiftness and reduces duration of movement impeding skills by 33%, and takes 25% less damage

Know the strengths

Rampage has hard to strip stability (not impossible!), swiftness uptime that allows him to stick to you, all the stuns that are deadly to a necro if he has no stability, and if traited for, has very high immunity to movement impeding skills, and takes 25% less damage

how to counter as a necro

I play hybrid necro in WvW, so I can’t say for PvP. But here are some things you might want to incorporate into your build which will help you against a Juggernaut.

1) Elite Plague skill

Easiest way to counter an enemy stability pulsing elite is to use your own stability pulsing elite. It is important to check from the start of the battle if the warrior is a Juggernaut or not. If he is, try to save your elite plague skill for when he transforms. There is practically nothing he can do in juggernaut against your elite plague skill.

2) Elite Lich skill

Same as above. Save it for when the warrior transforms. Elite to counter elite. Stability to counter his stuns. However, this skill does not share the same insane boost in toughness as Plague and Vitality. So you will be trading punches with the warrior and both sides will hurt.

3) Corrupt boon

One of the Rampage’s strength is stability. Use it against him! It is corruptible and gives you that short duration of breather and he will still get feared.

4) Path of corruption

Same as above, corrupt it!

5) Spectral walk

Much harder to pull off, but use it as a break stun, dodge or double dodge if you see his boulder, jump stuns etc. coming and spectral return to kite him. But don’t forget he can gap close to you very easily so it won’t be easy with just this skill, but it makes it harder for the warrior too.

6) Wurm

Same as above, kite and juke him for as long as you can to wear out his Rampage duration

7) Well of darkness

Very few necros run this in WvW solo roaming I think. But it helps negate Rampage for a short while.

Most condi removal is tied to stealth or sword (but that sucks vs condi bombs). Condi engi can apply reveal and those few seconds are enough for a power thief to melt, combine that with the amount of cc engi has, thief has hard time vs engi.

Other condi builds, can’t prevent the thief from clearing condis that well. Thief can stealth off mesmer clones, condi rangers don’t have lb knockback etc.

Remove stealth from a thief and you get warrior with half the HP, lower armour and lower dmg.

Also another question. why medi guard? I play a medi guard myself, GS+scepter/focus. I’m an average medi guard.
Admittedly I don’t struggle much against thieves, but there are still a few exceptionally skilled thieves who can kill me.
And condi thieves got a higher chance of killing me too.

So what is it about a medi guard that hard counters a thief? is it more sustain, more blocks, more dps, more blinds?

from the posts, it seems like there are two hardcounters to a thief.

Medi Guardian
and
Condi Engineer

My question is condi engineer. why specifically engineer? can it be condi mesmer? or condi necro? or condi ranger? or condi guardian?

and if it is the condi that is hardcountering the thief, is it a case of the thief not building himself to have some condi clear abilities?

Personally I run around with condi necro and have fought thieves who know how to clear condi.

There actually is a viable arcane build I played with some time ago. It’s not one of the stronger builds, but it’s a hell of a curve ball and well played it can be effective. The biggest reason I stopped using it is because it’s not good for small group fights, but it does well in 1v1 like you’re looking for.

Try this version out. I haven’t used this concept outside of sPvP but the basic build is sound enough. The fun part is all the arcane skills will always crit, so your ferocity isn’t going to waste. Because of this you can trade all the stats that would normally go into precision for other things and still get your big hits. At the same time you’re flooding your opponent with long lasting conditions. There’s no +condition damage, but the damaging conditions aren’t really what you are going for. Denial is key for this build, every arcane skill has a chance to proc burning, which in turn can proc blind from Burning Ashes. Add in your own blinds and you’ve got a very frustrating build to fight against. The flood of other conditions will also make your opponent think you’re a condi build and likely won’t expect the massive hits from your arcane blast and wave.

I noticed you have S/F so I kept the weapons, but I’d recommend staff instead. The blasts on staff are very useful, and playing without blasting staff isn’t so hard when you’re used to it.

Let me know if you try it and how it works out, I’ve always wanted to try it out in a more serious setting but never got around to it.

The way I see it there are two types of trolls. One type is the witty ones who play with words to get a reaction from people. Now the other type is the very very sad type who for example makes alt accounts and has conversations with themselves to try to give the impression that they are funny by agreeing with themselves through their alt accounts which is tbh very weird lol and not very smart. The second ones are my favorite because I just imagine them switching accounts back and forth basically having conversations with themselves LOL man those are the ones with a bit too much time on their hands and are probably in their room in the dark 80% of there days with no real human contact aside from forums/chat rooms. I cry and laugh inside when I see those types of trolls because to have alts for the sake of agreeing with themselves to have some type of “weight” in forums is just… well you decide for yourselves what that says about that person.

I’ve roamed WvW in most of my playing time and rarely PvP or duel.

I have heard occasionally a dueler requesting me to drop LF to 10% or 20% but I never agreed to drop and never understood why people will make such a request.

A necro LF doesn’t degenerate over time so it was meant for us to keep and is one of our weapons.

It is as good as asking a guardian to only be allowed to his his F1 skill or a thief to only be allowed to use his steal once.

LF is a necro tool so why request I drain it to 10% or 20% or 30% when I can start at 100%?

And if someone can give a good reason why it should be drained to a certain %, what then is a fair %?

I have encountered duelers asking me to start with 10% and some say start with 50%. What then is fair and right? Who gets to decide? If I decide, I decide 100% because the game allows it and it is my weapon.

I never understood why people don’t allow mesmers to duel with MOA skill or no PU mesmers in duels or something.

They are all valid skills and valid builds. Please stop asking them not to use something when they are allowed to.

Also it is the first time I heard that a necro cannot use plague form in a duel. You mean even necro elites are restricted?

If it is there, use it.

There’s nothing impressive or clever about disrupting the game/forums with offensive comments and destructive behaviour. It’s really pathetic when people go out of their way to provoke and annoy others, then pat themselves on the back for how annoying they were — as if that were an accomplishment of some kind. Wow, acting like a jerk makes people think you are a jerk and they get mad at you… that’s just amazing!

Guardians in general are a hard counter to Thief. Of course some builds are more beat than others but it takes a pretty substantial Thief to down a Mediguard who knows their rotations.

but you can easily disengage and try again after.

a mesmer who fights a thief, i assume they can’t disengage from the thief. its all in for any class that fights a thief.

Only a thief can catch a thief.

WvW 1 vs 1 Arcana Ele

Hi everyone, I am new to ele and had previously played her as a support/damage zergling and ran with huge zergs with a staff.

I am thinking of changing her to a 1 vs 1 roamer and was really attracted to the Arcana synergy traits and utilities.

This is the build I am running.
I have been failing badly because I don’t really know how to fight in a 1 vs 1 with her yet.
But I was wondering what you guys who have more experience with the ele think of this Arcana build?

I checked metabattle builds and there is no mention at all of Arcana builds in WvW or PvP…

I like the Arcane syngergies that gives a 20 second heal, 16sec and 20sec utilities that damage and apply conditions and gives you ferocity +150 and vulnerability on enemy and gives you back endurance for more and more dodges.

Is this build viable for 1vs1 in WvW? should I continue to train with this build or just use one of the meta DD or freshair builds?
