First i’m sorry to bring this old topic up 2 months ago since the first post im just started playing this game and had no interested in necro but now thing is different, i do really enjoy playing necro atm and found this build i got big interesting and want to try
I already got everything needed for the build but in the way i see rune of strength is a huge waste are there any better rune than strength ? becuz these stuff cost a lot i want to take rune of the pack any good ?

I agreed with Danikat i have 5 characters all 80 of course it took me awhile to lvl them all but in return i feel the fun because there are always have a choice for me when i get bored with something.
One more thing if you want a legendary you must play in pve a lot more than pvp and ima tell you a bit about each class and what they can do cuz it will take forever to talk about all class.
Warrior very straight forward class ( Offensive ), good choice for beginner with easy pve mode, can perform very well in pvp if mastered, you are always welcome with spot in dungeon, poor skill animation, bored gameplay, expensive gears.
Guardian most well balanced class ( Deffensive ), good choice for beginner, very good in both pve/pvp. always welcome in dungeon the damage can compare to war in someway, interesting gameplay, good animation,cheap gears, poor hp is fatal and will become disaster if play it wrong.
Elementalist by far this is the best class in game they can do anything, very nice skill animation, fun to play with alot of builds,always welcome in dungeon poor hp/def end up sucked and bored if playing wrong ( you will realize it very soon even at early game ) one of 2 hardest class in the game, expensive gears.
Mesmer very fun gameplay similar to ele they can do anything, fighting with clones kinda new experience, well reward gameplay at 80, easy to find gears, always welcome in dungeon, hard to play, a nightmare to hit 80, slow movement speed is fatal.
Ranger Jack of all trades soloing monster, can be a sniper or melee fighter in pvp deadly if play it right, cheap gears, easy to play for beginner, end up being sucked then everyone hate you, will take a whole new story to master this class, easy end up brainless gameplay, not so welcome in dungeon.
Necromancer pvp monster, take alot more than it look to perform well in pve, not welcome in dungeon, harder to play in pve but still doing pretty well in a hand of good player.
Thief same as necro but king of 1v1 ( need a lot of practice to do that ) hard to play in pve, not welcome in dungeon.
Engineer devastating in both pvp and pve contents but kittenG HARD to master even harder than ele do not touch this class if you don’t have enough knowledge about game mechanic.

Your question and your post ps me off you prefer range class and you dislike/ignore half of best range weapons in this game before you ask something test it in heart of the mist and pvp arena if still not suit you then work on your skill you probably lack a lot of skill/info about what you’re doing.
Ranger axe/sword/torch/dagger low damg ? Plz play conditon ranger, want power ranger ? Play LB and get over with it no way to avoid the fact that LB ranger is one of the best range class
Ele staff is crapy ? say this in elementalist box and you may get yourself killed and let me tell you this Staff Ele is the highest dps weapon in this game….well atleast for now not sure in expansion you need to work more on your skill.
Warrior has some decent range dps if you know what you doing but slow ? Seriously ? you played what you want and in result you telling us that war is slow in the world ?… :facepalm:
Thief seem suit you better stick with it
Mesmer….naww this class definitely not for you
Necro very good in pvp soso in pve not so slow at movement speed if play condition build then Scepter/dagger – Staff has pretty good at range dps IN PVP.
Post processing just make stuff a bit brighter nothing else but if you want more i suggest you try out Gemfx.
For both contents i will say Mesmer and Ele because they are 2 of 4 hottest classes in dungeon/team play as well as in pvp but they pretty hard to play.
Elementalist if you play it wrong there will be consequences you end up sucked at everything and get you bored to death.
Mesmer is a little bit easier than ele but slow movement speed is their fatal.
Don’t bother Necro and Thief because they are not for pve especially dungeon.
To be honest i read your post and the first thing came to my mind is this game probably not for you.
Your playstyle is very very casual and if Ranger/War/Guard can’t fit you no class can because those 3 classes are the best for casual/easy mode players.
So here is my opinion
Warrior very straight forward class very boring but ppl love it becuz offensive support with phalanx trait and pure dps trait in team play > Solo don’t even bother this class will end up bored to death.
Guardian – is a most well balance class in game and you just use the class for world boss ..this is so wrong but like warrior guard bring massive support to team play > Solo like you….meh won’t get any better than war.
Ranger – enough talk because this seem the best class for you so far
Ele -best class in team play but don’t even bother this class if you are an easy mode player won’t get better at 80 anyway if you already sucked at it.
Necromancer – PvP monster never ever gonna fit your playstyle.
Mesmer – fun and not the same as ele because clone can hold aggro pretty well and can control the battle field better than any class ( of course if you know what you doing ) but they are slow slow slow a nightmare for map completion.
Thief – like Necro but more than that thief is not for easy mode.
Engineer – yeah you were right engi by far is the hardest class to master and the reward is worth it when you mastered this class but again solo/easy mode….nuff said.
Ranger has some good aoe from axe/torch and trap but not that great becuz the damg pretty low useful in pvp but not great in pve compare to other class.
Guardian staff can provide good aoe with #1 and #3 but only for tagging ( lootstick ) and great for support team and can’t use in serious fighting situation due to tiny damg they deal.
-Ele by far is the best class to provide instant/insane AoE damg and almost 100% uptime.
-Engineer has the longest range ingame and alot of AoE but like ranger the AoE they provide not that great in some PvE situations
-Necro is a AoE monster in PvP/WvW due to their high condition damg but in PvE they like guardian if you build power Necro in PvE they just for tagging cuz the damg is pretty low but condition might have it place in PvE somehow
-Warrior not actually an AoE class but most of their auto attack especially AxE/AxE can provide very nice aoe damg and GS #2, Longbow deal pretty decent amount of AoE not to mention they are very strong in hp/def and can withstand any incoming damg while dealing good amount of Single/AoE damg.

Ele is superior for every aspect of the game but somehow this class is stupidly hard to master and a lot of player has this problem but very reward if you can master Ele and the gameplay won’t change if you can’t master it.
Ranger is more newbie friendly class easy to play not too hard to master but too easy mean boring if you enjoy it then it doesn’t matter.
The different between Ele and Ranger in end game content is fractal/dungeon every group alway have an open slot for ele or two and ranger….not so much some jerks will kick you out if you are a ranger in pug group but you can go with guild/friend to solve this problem.
But you can having 2 main in your family so why not lvling them both ?
Idk ranger can use staff and become a druid in HoT that would make them a very interesting profession to play but we are very far from HoT update and beside they can use short/longbow and a lot of melee fighting style traps etc… btw they can use magic atm ( spirits ) but more like support role.
Ele bow just temporary and you can use it when you playing other classes if you have an ele friend in party but i admit frost bow deal crazy amount of damg.
War and Thief can use bow but they are far from witch hunter base on your description.
So yeah Ranger is the one closest to your play style and will be a witch hunter in Heart of Thorn, guardian too because i heard some rumors that guard can use longbow in HoT but i’m not confirm it yet, i hope it’s true.

If you want fun and more reward gameplay then go ele but i warn you if you play it wrong the result will get you bored and frustrating while playing this class.
Ele strong in teamplay hard in solo play ( require master class ), doing great in open world content, can be a prey in pvp/wvw but can evolve to a monster when master, 1 of 4 hottest class in dungeons/fractal.
Ranger weak to average in teamplay, ridiculous strong and easy in solo play, master of open world content, a born sniper in pvp/wvw or evasive/condition fighter and very reward gameplay if you learn to become a melee ranger, not welcome in dungeon/fractal.
please noted that PvP include sPvP/WvW/Roaming and PvE include Dungeons/Fractal/Open World Content.
Still bugged Anet please fix this my 80 ranger can’t continue personal story because of this.
This is no offense but please before you ask something AT LEAST take a little look at previous post in players helping players.
I’m seeing 2 post that already answered your question , this is why most veteran players want to help but they have to answer the same question all over again while the answer is right there amd really a waste of time, you can just spend sometime on google there are a bunch of guide of thing need to do at 80.
But this is helping box so i will take a bit of my time and answer your question
1/ you can buy gears through trading post or if you have Karma/Badges of honor you can go to WvW vendor or Temple Armor ( please search GW2 Temple Armor on google ) they are pretty cheap.
2/ Dungeons ( best find a guild to guide you ), EoTM champ farming, World Boss Tour, Open World Champ Farming ( Champ = Champion mob )
3/ You are new Legendary is like a daydream please keep the word “legendary” out of your mind at least for now, first learn how thing work in this game, how to make gold understand game mechanics
4/ Find yourself a build that suit your character and start explore everything and then find a friendly guild they will help you alot on your journey – please keep in mind that everything you do no matter what it is you are doing it right no fear as long as you willing to learn the game yourself everyone of this box will help you with your question.
1/ Very hard to say but most are Warrior/Guardian/Ranger/Ele/Mes you can find those classes everywhere you go both in PvE and PvP/WvW.
2/ Won’t be a class like that but as i mentioned above ppl play them be cuz they are effective no matter where you go. Thief have cool playstyle but hard to master.
3/ You can change server but cost you 1800 GEM ( ~ 250 gold or more ) you can get a free transfer if you delete all your existence character.
4/ Yea pretty much based on the numbers
5/As i mentioned above if you want to start fresh delete all your char but your gold/karma every currencies stuff you put in bank will remain unharmed b4 you transfer remember to put all item in your character inventory in bank, armor/weapon if account bound put them in bank if soulbound rather salvage them keep rune/sigil or sell them for extra gold.

“Ends on down” mean when your character downed all stacks that sigil gave you before you enter down state will be lost.
WvW weapon cost 1g + 132 badge for main/off handed and 1g + 198 for 2-handed
Here is my recommend
1/ With 1367 Badges of honor you can easy buy 6 pcs of armor ( i prefer Berserker stat ) in WvW vendor you need 950 badges and a little bit of gold but you won’t have much badge left for weapons.
2/ Since you have 160k karma the best way is to mix armor pcs between Badge and Temple armor ( here https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_armor cost 42k karma per pcs ) but you have to run very far for temple armor so my suggest is try to grind 10k karma more and with 170k karma you can buy 4 pcs of temple armor + 2 pcs badges armor that way you will have a lot of badges left for your weapons.
3/ For trinkets rings amulet there is no way you have enough laurel to buy ascended so i suggest you buy exotic berserker stat ( Orichalcum ) trinket x2 ring x2 amulet x1 cost you ~20g.
4/ Runes and Sigils this part is a little bit costly for you because warrior use very expensive runes/sigils i suggest you go here http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki and find your build
But imo since war have great power runes of the ranger would be the best if you don’t have a lot of gold https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Ranger but you need a miniature active in order to trigger #6 bonus and when you have your gold back you can replace it with better version.
For sigils is your choice hard to say cuz it’s more like personal taste.
The only downside of Badge gears and temple gears is you can’t salvage them which mean if you use expensive runes/sigil and you want to replace your armor or weapon you lose all runes/sigils but trust me you won’t change your gears for a very long time…

I have War Guard Ranger Necro atm and that’s weird cuz war is like a moving fortress to me and more weird believe it or not i found that my guard have much better survival than my war due to regen + big heal at the same time and 5s vigor with 10s cd everytime i critical hit something and seriously i have no problem to stay alive with my guard.
The only thing i play my war/ranger more than guard is because im lazy i want to run fast without timing swiftness buff on guard.
Ranger alway the best for soloing due to pet it make everything so easy for you to stay alive.
Hard to say most pll in this game have negative thinking about necro/engi in dungeon content, some group are nice and welcome to accept you no matter what class you are
but rarely like savacli said there are a ton of reason you get kicked as a necro/engi or any other class except guard war ele mes, we can’t change ppl mind.
The only way to solve this problem is find yourself a nice and friendly guild then run dungeon with them.
Guard can have infinite swiftness but it require timing and yes WvW group/zerg play is very different from pve build/stat/skill and you need more than 2 set of gear if you want to do both WvW/PvE.
If you prefer pve then everything is a lot easier for you to pick a class and who told you that guard dps’s suck ? even with an up lv guard it can be very powerful and easy to play ( probably the most easiest ) than mesmer.
If you saw many guard around you don’t worry ppl play it becuz the great support potential it bring to team at high lv content every group alway welcome more than 1 guard so finding a group is not your problem as a guard ( just for you to know guard can deal massive dps while bring tons of defensive buff to everyone nearby )
The only downside is guard have a low hp pool which require you a lot more skill to stay alive and if you have problem with timing on buff then guard run speed will frustrate you but at least you have more swiftness buff than mesmer ( map completion is a nightmare for mesmer >.< )
And if you want to do dungeons in future here are 4 hottest classes Guard War Ele Mes any other class except those four will have a “very” high chance to get kicked in dungeon.
For me i use war/guard for dungeons and ranger for everything else you can alway have more than 1 main chars so why bother picking class ? time is the only thing matter here.

I’m not sure that i’am clearly understand your question cuz WvW also include grp and solo play same as PvE, open world content which one do you prefer ?
Ima just give you answers for all contents then.
Best all around would be Guard and Element due to their great support utility both of them are good for large/small scale battle in WvW, alway wanted in dungeon run, Guard have great solo potential in pve content ele too but it will be more challenge.
Mesmer is good too but not great as Guard/Ele but ppl still love mes cuz they can easily mess up enemies mind and mesmer also is one of most wanted class in dungeon.
Ranger as you said they got some slightly nice buffs recently better damg ( or nasty in some ppl word ) high survivability both in WvW and PvE contents they like a true sniper class now and some ppl won’t stop crying – begging for a nerf you can see that very clearly in Ranger forum the only downside of ranger is they’re not a favorite class in dungeon.
Just go with warrior they have everything you want
1/ Massive hp pool, strong defense, 25% run speed from trait + leaps combo S/GS.
2/ Every class can do jumping puzzle this is more about race problem than class cuz smaller race have more advantage.
3/ War can kill almost everything in open world pve can take down a group of mobs with no problem due to the high hp regen, high damg, good aoe + ton of offensive utility.
4/ War is a member of GWEN the four gods in dungeon.
5/ Low cd if traited.
6/ This class WILL BORED YOU TO DEATH.
Thief is fine no cd sound good for 1v1 with any champ (blind, evade, stealth) help you alot but you will have problem with too many mobs attack you at the same time but they are fun to play.
Engineer is king of AoE and with perma swiftness you no problem with world completion not like thief your bomb kit can blow a ton of mobs away but you will have problem with range attack champ.
Both thief and engi are not welcome in dungeon i don’t know why don’t ask me cuz ppl made it that way and they more like pvp class.
Otherwise just go with Ranger they are king of soloing in open world pve content they have more than what you want except dungeon like thief and engi BUT dungeon problem can be solved if you run with friend or guildie.

There are no very good or very bad classes it’s depend on how good you are to control the class
Warrior : low to good in pvp/WvW – one of the best in pve
Guardian : low to good in pvp/WvW – one of the best in pve
Mesmer : good to best in pvp/WvW – one of the best in pve – hard to master
Elementalies : mid to best in pvp/WvW – one of the best in pve – hard to master
All above classes = GWEN ppl love GWEN anywhere it go.
Engineer : low – best in pvp/WvW – mid in pve – very hard to master
Thief : good – best in pvp/WvW – mid to good in pve – hard to master
Necromancer : good – best in pvp/WvW – low to mid in pve
This is my personal opinion everyone can fix it i don’t really care.
Thief are strong damg prob one of the highest but Thief in pve all the way is a no for me cuz they are not easy as they look require skillful player to control and yes thief can bring down a champ all by it self but kinda selfish to me cuz pve is all about grp if you want endgame pve.
And for Guard what rune/sigil are you using atm ? cuz Guard is not at that bad in fact they can solo almost anything but you have to go deep into the class.
Ranger is kinda suit your playstye cuz they are jack of all trade easy to play easy to survive in open world due to pets but pet are useless or even a disaster if you don’t know what you are doing in grp play, run faster than mesmer but no challenge at all if you use a longbow…
Mesmer are good in both pvp and pve content but in pve they run a bit slower that might frustrating you but with the benefit they can bring to team they worth a try your clone can hold aggro pretty well tho and final mesmer/Guard are members of GWEN most wanted classes in dungeon.
So you can stick with guard and go deep into class gameplay or try something new by reroll a mesmer or just go with the easy way like ranger.
That’s all i can say for now it’s up to you to decide.
Both Guardian and Warrior are the most wanted class in dungeon and there are no holy trinity in this game every class can perform tank/heal/dps base on the situation.
Warrior bring offensive buff to team.
Pors : pure dps class with high hp pool, high mobility, good hp regen in combat can use variety weapons some build can be tanky if you prefer but less dps and can tak down multiple mobs at a time.
Cons : Sleepy gameplay, poor skill animation, can use variety weapons but only some of them are actually worth using, expensive runes and sigils if want to play war at maximum potential otherwise crap rune/sigil still doing well but not much.
Guardian bring defensive buff to team.
Pros : one of the best support class in game but still can provide good amount of dps ( actually massive amount if play in group ) can have hp regen and big heal at once, can use variety weapons ( not many as war can ) but all weapon you use are effective, nice skill animation like holy knight and more challenge to play than war, cheap rune but effective.
Cons : slow, low hp pool, low mobility, expensive rune if want to play at max potential easy to get killed if you play it wrong.
First tell me how much karma and gold do you have atm ? Guard can use cheap runes but very effective ( Rune of Flame Legion ) about Sigil it’s a little bit expensive but no worries you can save up gold and buy them in time.
About trait i suggest you to unlock it not to buy it unless the unlock requirement is too hard.
I have both Ranger and War so i know what it feel to compare 2 classes and i had 3 set gears on my war so the pain is real trust me !! but as i said if you want to play war at it “maximum” potential mean you take it seriously then gold is needed ( Rune/Sigil ) otherwise any runes even rune of mesmer crap sigils are still good for war.

You can find high lvl crafting mats ( tier 6 ) through open bags that drop at lv 80 map ( very rare )
First what is your class and your current gears ?
Second which of these contents you prefer most Pve/PvP/WvW ?
You can buy Exotic Gears off TP with gold, Badges of Honor at WvW vendor ( most viable way since you lvled through WvW ), Karma at Temples in Orr, Dungeon Token.
For ascended gears you have to craft it also have a small chance to drop in open world content but mostly crap stat.
If you a fresh 80 i suggest you stay out of Fractal ( Fractal of The Mist in Lion’s Arch ), you can do dungeons through LFG system but ppl might not be friendly with new player.
The best way is find yourself a guild ( i mean helpful and friendly guild cuz most guild in this game are crap they just want to rise the population and play silence when you need them ) once you have a good guild then start doing dungeon/fractal with them.
End game content is all about make yourself look pretty and to do that you need gold.
Warrior no question cuz it’s a pure dps class !! But seriously if you want to play warrior at it maximum potential you need to spend no less than 100g.
You can have a war only for dungeon/fractal and ranger for the rest no one gonna judge you.
First thing first Ranger is not for dungeons so don’t get yourself strange when you got kicked from any public group ( this can be solved by run duns with your friends/guildmates or use war to do duns instead of ranger )
Ranger are worth to try !! one of the most easiest class to play but if you take this class seriously you will need to train your skill
The most powerful class in solo play extremely high survivability cuz the tank pet like 50k hp, dps pet some are nasty damg and trait help improve your pet even more.
Can be deadly in PvP/WvW/Roaming with sniper build ( longbow range are 1500 ) or conditions build.
Ranger will evolve to Druid in HoT can use a staff !! i just love that idea.
You should use sort by ping then select the lowest ping and use it to connect your game this tool work perfectly for me in every mmo i played.
And if you still suffer the lag the only thing i can think of right now is check your cable or connect line.
I’m in Asia and currently use WTFast ( What The Fast ) to reduce lag ingame great tool hope it will help.
