I find Midnight Ice to be the poor man’s Abyss. It’s pretty dark on cloth armor. In fact, it’s actually a bit too dark for what I wanted but I can’t find anything better. It also fades into a blueish gray on extremely light fabrics, which I find better than Midnight Fire.
As for purples, I run around with T3 Asuran cultural weapons so I use Glory to match them. Other possible colors are Grapevine, Heliotrope and Phlox.
If you’re more into pink/fuchsia, you can try Cotton Candy, Rose Breeze and Pastel Rose. They are all fairly cheap, last time I checked.
For white, I use Blue Ice, which is a poor man’s Celestial. It’s not quite white on most fabrics but I find it works remarkably well for lacy trimmings.
There are a lot of White supplements and they all give a different look. I personally don’t like Abyss and Celestial as they are just “one color” no matter what (although they are gray on certain [parts of] clothes). Using dark and light supplements can give you different feelings to a piece of clothing. I use Midnight Ice as the main color of my clothes, but I could easily use a different deep color like Heirloom (although that’s red) or Royal Purple/Midnight Violet. For the lighter colors, I like to use colors like Mithril, Rose Tint, Pastel Winter/Ice, Winter Ice as they all give a different feeling.
Mithril gives a used clothing feeling. Rose Tint gives a similar dull effect.
Pastel Winter/Ice and Winter Ice give a very vibrant white effect, similar to Celestial (not quite as white, though).
Shades of purple?
Nonono, you must mean pink because mesmers are very pink and butterfly and feminine, as shown by all the posts of people that don’t like our color scheme… RIGHT?!
Anyways, any color with the word Purple, Violet, Royal or Night in them tends to look good on a Mesmer. Lighter colors will compliment your skills, but deep/rich colors will make you feel like a Mesmer, at least in my opinion.
Ah, my bad, clearly it’s an exploit since it managed to instagib you. Considering you gave no proof other than one bad damage reading in your log (which has been reported before and has been narrowed down to be the damage dealt when standing near a stealthed player) and you got instagibbed, clearly it must mean that that profession is bugged and everyone must stop playing it immediately because it’s op and nobody should be able to do that much damage without playing a concert piano.
Oh what’s that? Mesmers DO player concert pianos?
Oh, psh, they aren’t engineers/elementalist, gtfo liar.
Put on a ranged weapon and hit the 1 skill or just use an AoE skill and blast them away. Rolling towards phantasms works wonders as they have recharge rates in between skills. If you’re up against a phantasm mesmer, you need to kill the phantasms. If you’re not up against a phantasm mesmer, you just need to dodge past the shatters or not attack during confusion/cleanse your conditions.
Proximity Anguish is a betaskill but it occurs when standing near a player in stealth. The minor damage is the actual damage being taken. Getting insta-gibbed means you’re most likely running full squishy or ignoring phantasms.
More information about Proximity Anguish at:

I’m sure most people would get to 10000 achievement points AFTER getting a legendary.
You can change your “layer” view which lets you see upper, middle, and lower floors.
If you don’t want to do any of that you don’t have to. Simply log out next to the PvP character and ignore the gear. It doesn’t matter if you just want to focus on PvP, anyways.
If you finish it, it goes away. I don’t have the Living Story or Personal Story on the top right anymore.
Subcategory for accessories: Trinkets.
I think the tears about this buff are unnecessary.
I lol’ed at this. Most mesmers on this forum will cry when we get nerfed and now we’re crying when we get buffed. It’s quite sad, really. Just take it and get used to it.
My #1 skill on weapons are often my least used skills.
I agree, unless we count in clones. I rarely ever auto attack and am always using a skill or rolling. In the rare case that I’m auto attacking, I’m most likely in a TW or hitting a downed enemy instead of stomping.
I would like to be a Prodigy/Savant/Genius/Adept/Peacemaker!
Aren’t we supposed to wear a title because we like what it implies for our character, not what it gives our character?
The Crossing, Final Rest, most Cultural Weapons… sorry for naming Staves, they’re just at the top of my list of non-glowy weapons that look nice.
Okay… then… change your element while out of combat!
Again, you really just want to play an Elementalist but you want to play it as a Warrior.
You want to be able to change your playstyle mid-fight. That’s what changing an attunement does.
Maybe that’s not your cup of tea, maybe you don’t want to cast spells as much. Then there’s still another profession for you. It’s called an Engineer! Yayyyy~
Love the sunday players posting troll mesages on forums ! When an elite skill is nerfed 50% its a big nerf mate , so l2p ! And if you didnt play mesmer in PVE for the TW then YOU played the mesmer wrong !
Okay, so instead of finishing a spell at 50%, you finish it at 75%. Because of that, let’s all stop playing this profession and/or stop using that spell! YAY!
The “tutorial” stage isn’t a tutorial. It’s part of your storyline. Olba brings up great points as to why this shouldn’t be changed. Heck, if anything, the tutorial for the game is leveling from 1-80 which can be skipped by crafting.
If you want attunements, you could roll an elementalist.
I don’t usually respond to these sorts of threads but…
THIS. IS. RIDICULOUS. LOL!!
Rolling a Warrior because we got “nerfed”?!?!? We got BUFFED overall.
Warrior just got nerfed up the kitten with this haste nerf and you want to roll a Warrior?!?!I can’t even tell if you’re trolling or being serious.
What game are you playn mate ?
GW2 and you? are you another troll?
Had the OP said I’m quitting mesmer, fair enough… But rolling a warrior? Ridiculous.
Tell me where is the buff you got on mesmer when you have 1 elite nerfed to the ground ? Dont talk kitten stuff , not all of us do AC runs like you !
Nerfed to the ground? Now it’s just not LOLOMGEVERYTHINGDIES.
That’s over the top. You’re basically saying “let the rich get richer while the poor get poorer”. The waypoint system is a money sink for a reason.
Ooooh yes, I would pay for traitslots.
I’m a Staff/Sword Mesmer, but I don’t mind using Final Rest. My Legendary of choice is the Quip. I’m only sad that I can’t wear it mainhand so the only skill to activate the sound and particle is on a 24 second cooldown.
As for Swords, I run 2 Ghastly Swords of the Night for obvious purposes. I also have a collection of other Swords for when it’s not Night ingame.
Moto is a male based on his hair/facial structure. Additionally, he was probably made fun of during his youth as my Asura, Esplen, probably would have been.
Esplen is a female name when looking at it from a human standpoint, but from an Asura standpoint, it is more male than female.
You play an alt and don’t roll in combat because you don’t want to spawn a clone to hit that unaggroed Firefly next to you.
The Crossing? There are a lot of Necro-esque looks don’t get me started… because most light armors cater to looking like an “escort” or looking like an evil/emo person.
I’d be a lot happier if they let me wear medium armor for the looks, but that’s just my personal opinion on what things look like. (All of my armor sets are built specifically to look like a normal spellcaster without a giant robe/“escort”/emo look.)
they are boring. Having to spend 25 minutes wanding someone doesn’t make it a difficult boss, unfortunately thats how most bosses in gw2 work. They are great looking with good skills and mechanics, just not much movement
World bosses*
Dungeons are a different matter.
5 is just the right size, though, I have 3 roommates and so if they all decide to get on (only I am truly active) then we have 4 people and getting a fifth is no big deal.
Adding a 10 man group with huge coordination will just be another mess like with AC EXP P2 on revamp release. It works if everyone can VOIP and coordinate/improvise, but most pugs are incapable of that, especially without the VOIP.
Final Rest not good enough for you, or does it have to be purple?
It is a solution but it is also trolling in it’s execution. Don’t blame me for the way to fix it, I was just giving a solution that’s already in the game (or out of the game for the second one).
Get into a party with a friend, have him target you and press Ctrl + T, have him go afk or log out (without leaving the party). There you go.
isn’t it a bit too much to display your own name over your head?
Okay, here’s an easier method. Get a pen or pencil and write your name above your characters head. If you don’t want to screw up your screen you can also use a piece of paper or plastic/something clear.
I’ve gotten kind of used to it, though. Think of it this way, everyone wears a nametag. You see everyones nametag on their person, but to see yours you have to look down, it’s not in your field of vision. Understand?
Simple. Too casual and easy, let’s see tactics and difficulty. Enough said.
Wear full-squishy gear.
There’s more progression than just item rarity and whatnot.
Most people think the game, like most other MMORPG’s, is about item progression. Get the BiS and you’re done. Just like in GW1, getting BiS is a joke. The endgame gear progression should be about getting a fancy and pretty armor/weaponset that makes you feel happy. That’s the item progression.
The gear progression should, also, be looked at in a different light.
Get beefy gear that will let you live when you make a mistake.
Slowly start getting squishier gear as you learn to mitigate damage with your profession’s utility.
End up with full-squishy gear and not die.
If you want tactics and difficulty, give yourself a challenge. If you’re truly a hardcore player you would get yourself out of your element and put yourself at risk. Go into WvW and solo/roam. Keep going and take okittenerg.
If that’s not your cup of tea, try soloing a dungeon or a dungeon boss. There are a lot of solo’s that have been recorded. That’s something that’s in almost any players reach if they dedicated time and effort. I, personally, would like to do something like that but am limited by an ~15fps machine running on lowest settings when fighting big battles. It tends to spike during the crucial moments, too, but I won’t go into details because I’m also making excuses for how bad I can be, at times.
Don’t think that Legendaries and Exotics/Ascended make you a hardcore player. I’m a casual that plays the game hardcore. Sure, I’ll be an elitist and do Fractals or CoF speedruns, but I only do it if I have something that I will gain. In terms of Fractals, it was an ascended backpiece. In regards to CoF speedruns, it’s for quick cash and adding to my sword collection (with the tokens).
It would not be a big problem for the people of ArenaNet, given that the Cyrillic support in the search for goods in-game shop.
Cyrillic would ease the lives of many Russian guilds, it would be nice if the developers went to meet Russian community.
Super long late reply but, just to be fair, the in-game shop is done via your browser.
But then I think there was Cyrillic support in GW1, so… not sure what to say.
Just pointing that out, not actually inciting an argument or agreeing.
Get into a party with a friend, have him target you and press Ctrl + T, have him go afk or log out (without leaving the party). There you go.
That’s a lie. I got my Gift of Battle before taking WvW seriously or even getting into it. I didn’t know what anything was, except for a zerg (which I rarely took part of). To get my badges, I would run around, gather omnomberries, gather orichalcum, do the jump puzzle, get killed, tag an enemy or two, then go dungeon some more. If commander’s compendium was 1000 badges of honor, I, and a lot more people, would run around with it and pretend like we know what to do.
If you want to be a commander, you should work for it. Also, they added more rewards to gain with the badges of honor (namely exotics with stats of your choice).
Yes, you can get rabid, berserker, soldier and a few more EXOTIC armors with badges. You can also get some PvE weapon/armor skins with them. Be wary, though, they all cost gold AND badges, too.
Mini pets:
You should get used to using invisible bags. Honestly, they’re your best friend. If you want to play this game seriously (even to have fun), then you’re going to want to have every possible weapon [combination] for your profession. Seeing those items pop up while selling puts me on my nerves, so that’s where invisible bags come in. Same thing for foods and other armor sets.
Nowadays, I run around with 6 armor sets at all times. I also have every possible weapon combination and multiple weapons on myself at all times (carrying around ~12 swords, too). Why? Because it’s a game and I want to have fun, and that’s how I do it.
How do I fit all that stuff? Lots of invisible bags.
Shared Gold:
Your bank gold will be used when using a waypoint if you don’t have enough on your person. It will also ask if you want to use the gold in your bank as you waypoint as a precaution. Not 100% sure about repairs. Buying items from NPC’s requires the gold to be on your person, as well as using the TP.
As for making it an account-wide currency, there needs to be a line between accounts and characters. I feel like the gold is fine where it’s at. What if I want to RP with a character and have it be a poor character? What if I want to challenge myself and have a character that never uses from all my other characters gold/items? Both of those are a bit hard if I have to share gold.
The whole point of rested experience is to catch up to players who play the game more often than you, while not giving you a huge advantage. Aka, the casual vs the tryhard. I hope you realize that you already have a rested experience system in place.
If you don’t understand what the rested experience system in place is, look at your daily achievements. Each one of those gives you 5% of your current level upon completion and an additional 10% of your current level on daily completion. That means if you simply do a daily, you will guaranteed gain 35% of your current level. That also does not account for experience gained from killing mobs, gathering, crafting, exploring, “questing” and/or just playing the game. There are also 9 available daily achievements (not including sPvP) which means any player may gain up to 55% of their current level without accounting for natural experience gains.
To add to that, most of these dailies are “quests” or objectives that are not too far out of the way of a player leveling up.
tl;dr: dailies are your rested experience
Or, instead of an auto consume, add a blank slot to the right of your skill bar (only one slot) which you can put any one usable item from your inventory into. You can then bind that one key or simply click it.
I have a face mask and a vigil visor. Wouldn’t work for me… I also use necro masks, which wouldn’t work with my face mask.
Now, if they made Reading Glasses a PvE item, I’d be all for it.
Yes, let’s add a giant city in the middle of an already made area…

See: D’alessio Seaboard.
Givers doesn’t affect Condition Duration even though it affects the hero panel. Unless they patched it this patch (I glanced, didn’t full on read the notes), it’s still bugged.
Your total should be 11.15s. The tooltip will show 10s, but if you take longer than one second to mouse over it, it will show up as 9. Make a video and do a step by step count to see a close representation of its’ duration.
Dunno what problems you guys are having. My main problem is that I’m used to targeting near enemies instead of far enemies.
There’s also an unintentional bug that lets you hit walls for full damage with a Greatsword in WvW. Yayyyyy~ too bad I use Staff instead. ._.
Okay, when I’m fighting in PvE and PvP, I’ll sometimes ask myself: Why is my damage so low? Then I’ll realize I haven’t weapon swapped in about 20 seconds.
Whether or not I like both weapon sets, I use them because the utlity and fresh damage skills let you get so much more out of your skills.
Regardless, if you don’t want to weapon swap, the only answer to your question is to reroll as an Elementalist or Engineer because then you WON’T weapon swap. That is the only way to effectively do it. I’m sorry.
This is coming from a PvE mesmer. I like the change.
I love nerfs too. Keep them coming. More nerfs pls, especially -50% effectiveness ones. As for TW nerf not being noticeable, it is pretty nootiiceeabblee to me.
Then stop relying on a skill like that. I run TW but I rarely use my Elite. It’s only when the time calls for it do I use it.
If you’re running iPersona, you’re going to want to use Torch instead. The Blast lets you get up closer and ninja shatter without being able to react, especially if you have Mirror Images.
It didn’t really get nerfed that bad. You finish your casts 25% slower (at 75% instead of 50% of skill cast). It’s hardly noticeable on fast skills (other than the super quick whoosh whoosh whoosh of auto attacks) but it’s actually fair. It basically makes Mesmers TW not a OHJEEZWTFDOWEDONOW!
This is coming from a PvE mesmer. I like the change.
Wouldn’t you be using Torch for stealth?
