There’s a Personal Storyline quest that lets you do massive damage to normal mobs. It’s in Orr, but when they did the Achievement revamp, I lost the achievement. Now I just cry when my Swordsman hits Critters for 500k and I don’t get the achievement. T_T

My bad then, I was never aware, I figured there would be a bigger ruckus. I guess the forum only cares about bad things. (What else is new?)

Honestly, Commander Symbol, Food, Signets, Conditions, Boons are all unique to each “player” therefore a Mesmer will show up with all of those and be able to be spotted if proper micro/management is done. You can also do damage checks with small AoE’s. I just use my food in WvW because if I’m going to die, I’m going to die.

If you know why the clone is having the problem, then you wouldn’t really be posting here. It’s having the same problem as any other NPC. Why don’t you see bosses running up walls to get to people in cheesy areas? Why don’t you see mobs jumping past a rock to get to people on hills? That’s the same problem with the clone. To fix that, they would either have to make it so that NPC’s can bypass ground limitations and have the “boar charging up a hill” problem, or they can have an overhaul where they make it so that NPC’s can jump and then have to add in a method for figuring out where/when/how to make said NPC jump.

Additionally, the root of this problem is more than just a simply “change this to that” fix, as even the NPC’s that use Heartseeker strike can have the same problem. NPC’s have a knockback effect when you hit them, which will negate any and all movement through the use of a skill if hit while casting said skill. They also have their own LoS, as seen by PWarden’s moving (yes, you can get a PWarden to move if they lose LoS).

Lastly, the root of the problem is mainly in the fact that Arenanet decided to cut a corner and copy most of it’s engine and mechanics from GW1. If you look in most tonics and transformations you can’t jump. Why is that? Because in GW1 you couldn’t jump. If you pay closer attention, the tonics/transformations where you CAN jump are the tonics/transformations that only appear in GW2. Heck, the reason why Norn transformations can’t move while casting is because they follow the same skill system from GW1 where you stood still while casting.

P.S. If you think my post is “pretty bad ’tude” then you shouldn’t be posting a thread asking for suggestions about what to suggest. If you have a suggestion, you should post it. If you’re trying to find one, you should be willing to get any and all responses.

Is signet of illusions really bugged?

At least for once one of our bugs somehow benefits us. We sure do have plenty of them these days.

Except that this has been around since the beginning and used to pulse every 10 seconds. They’ve gotten it down to 5 seconds, I believe, but I haven’t tested it since the supposed fix (which was about 4 months ago).

Even with the bonus health, it really depends on your playstyle as to whether you should use it or not. I’m running a full Phantasm spec, but in PvE, I use iDefender, Blink and Null Field. In PvP (WvW), I use Decoy, Blink and Arcane Thievery. It’s really not worth it for me to run Signet of Illusions, even if it gives 200% health to my phantasms. Why not? In PvE, Phantasms aren’t expected to live. If you’re able to get 3 [of the same] out, then they shouldn’t be expected to die, either. In PvP, you should only really expect a Phantasm to live through one or two attacks. Think of them as Conditions. They can get removed, so let them get removed and keep applying them.

While we are aware of and working on number 1 & 2, number 3 is a technical limitation of our system and not a bug. Unfortunately, this is not something we can change as of this time.

You’ve misquoted nearly everything that you’ve tried to “quote” in your post.

The fix regarding #3 will happen, but it’s not something foreseeable because they’re trying to fix the rest of the game instead of overhauling the NPC/AI pathing to fix a few skills. It’s up to Arenanet to figure out what is important and should be patched in a patch and what should be fixed in a later patch, not the players. There will always be bugs in any game, so stop complaining and take what you can get.

And phantasms are a damage over time mechanic—the extra damage is nice, but doesn’t really mean as much in a fight about consistent pressure as much as as keeping that pressure—and passive strength for an attack that can’t defend itself goes a long way towards keeping that pressure reliable.

I agree. I tend to think of my Phantasms as DoT’s that I’m applying to an enemy. I don’t entirely rely on them, nor do I ignore them. I just keep them applied and that’s it.

I personally don’t even run Signet of Illusions as my utilities are too precious for a 200% health increase (that and most people will target my clones/me instead of my phantasms).

Lastly, I run Valkyrie Armor with Berserker weapons/trinkets because the Bers armor will give ~10% more critical rate (not including runes) as opposed to ~2k health from the valk armor. I have a full bers set for PvE but the main difference between the two is the runeset (full ruby orbs on bers and full centaur on valk). The difference is negligable but the valk is helpful when I’m having trouble with conditions. It also lets me make one more mistake versus nuke classes.

Neither way is right, but that’s just how I like to play my class.

I have to agree with Linguistically Inept. If anything, the sword is MORE intuitive than all the other weapons since it forces the user to think about mitigating WHILE deceiving.

I’m running 10/20/10/25/5 (the 10 in chaos lets me get manipulation cooldowns or reduced damage). I also gave up on Phantasm fury and instead opted for sword cooldown since I run s/s + staff

I also grabbed Deceptive Evasion to help confuse the enemy while my phantasms chunk them.

Yeah, I understand completely. Before I switched to full zerk (with accessories and weapons) my damage was a lot lower. Sword 4 versus thieves is so nice, too, because they walk into it. Heck, it works against anyone.

I’ve swapped back to a Phantasm build because shattercatting isn’t really my thing (I die while not rolling) so now I play a confusion game where I move and confuse instead of just rolling shatters for days. it works a lot more and I can play like a true scaredycat while killing people. It’s not as boring as I’m used to for a phantasm build but I guess that’s because I’m usually going 1v3+npc’s now.

If you want burst, make sure you use mental torment trait for mind wreak and try to use the off hand sword. The block actually does like 1k+ with proper gear and stats.

Try to stack power and crit dmg with your gear.

More like 4-6k.

Diversion, not Cry of Frustration. Confusion does minimal damage in sPvP. Additionally, make sure you’re traited for boon removal on shatters because most bunkers use their constant boon uptimes to their advantage.

Boon bouncing doesn’t work unless everyone has boon duration and even then…

Group of 5 players, each with 100% boon duration. You use Rune of Lyssa on all of them (if done in perfect timing) one person will end up with 50 seconds of Lyssa Rune, meaning there are still 40 seconds of downtime if you’re using Mass Invisibility, the lowest Mesmer Elite Cooldown.

Additionally, the boons you’re bouncing will be the same everytime. It wouldn’t actually benefit your team. With 100% boon duration, I can keep almost permanent uptime of Vigor, Regeneration, Swiftness and Retaliation while have burst-chunks (long duration but not so often to get, so ~50% uptime or so depending on the boon) Fury, Might, Aegis (until hit, QQ) and Protection. I mean, sure, you could keep 100% uptime on Fury and Prot, but, again, you’d need people running Boon Duration, not just using the raw durations.

The 100% uptime on Fury does sound nice, but a well-organized team can already do that (plus you’d give your 100% uptime of Vigor, Regen, Swiftness and Retaliation via SoI, anyways).

Mine is sitting on 99% Crit Damage with all Berserker gear.

You’re missing something then. 20 Dueling & Zerker gear should give you 100%.

How so? I’m 4/6 Berserker Ascended and full berserker exotics. I’m at 99% too. Unless sigils come into play here.

Full bers with ruby orbs. Bers weapons with any sigil. 4/6 Ascended Bers and 2 Exotic Bers Earrings with Exquisite Ruby Jewels. 20 points in Dueling. No food. 100% Critical Damage with 2 weapons. 99% Critical Damage with 1 weapon.

Oh, it seems you misunderstood my point. Focusing a ConDmg build around Sharper Images (or at least traits) is a bad move. There are no Phantasms that attack really fast in your build. The two phantasms that it would affect the most to get the most bleed stacks out would be Duelist and Warden (Pistol and Focus respectively). Debilitating Dissipation in PvE is really underwhelming unless you’re just going to let your clones die and not focus on shattering at all, which then renders all your other traits useless. (Especially because it focuses on clones, not illusions.)

Basically, your build looks like it was built around being a shattercat, but then you decided at the last moment to be ConDmg and then focused on that instead. If you want a good basis for a ConDmg build, look at Osicats Shattercat or samski’s Condi.

As is stated with a lot of builds, you need to focus into either Phantasms or Shatters. I understand quick-swapping, but you have it set so that it’s still a mixture. There are Domination Adept Shatter Traits, yet you picked a Phantasm trait in conjunction with the Dueling Phantasm trait. Then you look at all the other traits and you went shatters. Consistency, my friend, consistency.

Additionally, if you’re running ConDmg, it’s typically better to have 3 staff clones out versus focusing on Warlock damage (unless it’s a boss that WILL have a ton of conditions on it and last for a while).

I run full zerk, I don’t weapon swap in the cage and just wear whatever weapon I’m currently using (Sword/Sword or Staff) I can survive with both. I can also survive with Sword/Focus, but I swap out of Sword/Focus after the Slave Driver because I prefer Offhand Sword because my Swords are Zerkers, and I have a Sigil of Night in it.

To survive in the cages with a…

Sword/Focus:
Use 4 to pull them against the wall, proceed to do 5 —> 3 —> roll (make sure you stay in the cage) —> 3 —> 2 —> F1
If it’s still not done (or not close to being done), you can use F4 instead of F1.
Otherwise, continue hitting them. They should be near dead if not dead already. Finish them off and hop the gate guy is able to kill before next wave. Otherwise rinse and repeat using heals if necessary.

Weapon swap sparingly.

Sword/Sword:
Start with 5 —> 3 —> Roll —> 3 —> 2 —> Shatter (f1 or f4). If gate is not near complete, use 4 —> roll —> auto attack for a bit —> use other skills as necessary and shatters to finish off mobs. Heal when needed.

Staff:
5 —> 3 —> (if back against a wall, 2 else…) 4 —> roll —> F1 or F4 —> pray that you don’t have other cages aggro. Heal when needed.

Why do I say weapon swap sparingly? If the cutscene occurs and your weapon swap is on cooldown, you will get the weapon swap bug. To fix this, you must open up the hero panel and manually weapon swap. For me, this is a real deal breaker because I have a terrible machine that takes ages to open up the hero pane while running and kiting and whatnot. I can do it, but it takes a lot longer than necessary so I’ve learned how to deal with the cages without weapon swapping. Cautious rolls are rarely used when I do it and I go down about 1/15 times. If I get out of combat and I see a different cage is having trouble, I’ll swap into staff (bypass cooldown out of combat) and use 5 OR I’ll drop a feedback on that cage to help them out a little. It doesn’t do much, but it does help… especially if one of my mobs decided to run to their cage.

A mini-feedback around your character would certainly make the skill a lot more interesting for sure. But if they don’t want to go that far simply making echo instant cast will do wonders for the skill IMO.

What I meant was, instacast and it would absorb one attack (no reflect/block with instacast or it would be 4sec invuln if you get hit by ranged). I just said mini-feedback because it would look kinda nifty (think Distortion trait for reflection particles.3333333

They said it hits 5 targets “in between” which means it may be able to get body blocked from the caster by hitting 5 targets instead of the caster.

Sounds intriguing and maybe it will make GS/Staff a viable Condition build (bleed) in sPvP.

Maybe they could add swiftness to any clone generating ability and allow them to be used without a target (like staff2)? That way we trade off a cool-down that may not be up at the start of a fight for mobility?

Honestly don’t see how that will work. I use Staff2 to start combat (Staff3—>2 and get an auto attack means 3 attacks hit before I get into combat, I can then roll —> shatter if I want and that kills most normal mobs).

If you added Swiftness, that would be counter-intuitive unless they removed the backwards teleport which is what made the skill… well, the skill. (I also use it when seeing enemies and to teleport away BEFORE they hit me.)

Now, now… There’s no need for this discussion to devolve into impulsive displays of aggressive posturing. I agree completely that, given my interactions with numerous bookah subjects of varying races, the vast majority of them are ineligible for access to our Colleges on the basis of inadequate mental capacity, but there ARE some exceptions. As proved by Professor Goff’s paper on the intellectual capability of the different races, outliers can be found among every race. I see no reason why these exceptional individuals could not be allowed admission into our Colleges as “subject matter experts” for lectures and perhaps even as teaching assistants. The Eternal Alchemy is a vastly complex pattern, but there is a simplicity to its structure if you look deeply enough. And sometimes, just sometimes, the perspective given by these lesser races can lead to a breakthrough by coming from an angle we hadn’t previously considered.

Therefore, we should use them as test subjects instead of treating them as equals. Their opinions matter not when their results differ as test subjects.

ANet used to be way more precise in GW1 with skills tooltips, but anyway it was back then.

Mantra % damage doesn’t affect illusion. Then, I’m not sure for % damage for each illusions up. I can say that my phantasms do more damage, because I maxed 30-30-0-0-10. I’m always torn apart if I should play mantra or phantasm 20-20-0-25-5.

But in GW1 the effects were also straightforward. If it was a condition, it either did damage on -insert random thing here- or it just gave -healthregen.

Most likely not. If they affect Illusions, they affect Illusions. If they affect YOU, they affect you.

The only point of conflicting %damages is when you shatter as all shatters are sources of damage from YOU and not your Illusions. Therefore, +%illusion damage will not affect shatters.

Charr know how to build war machines, Sylvari know how to build friendships, Humans know how to build up societies, and Norn know how to build alliances. All races are equal in skill, but different on using them.

Phantasmal Healing. Your Phantasms are giving themselves Regeneration which, in turn, provides healing in small amounts. The ticks of ~200 are aforementioned Regeneration ticks coming out. Larger numbers could be fields that people are dropping on gates. Not sure about those, though.

I would say Engineer is the least fitting class for Asura because all of the tech they use is Charr. They need to change the skins of the engineer class for the Asura or else this class will never make any sense for one. All of the skins are already in the game, they just need to change them for Asura.

Necromancer is definitely much more fitting.

But then you might as well say every profession should be changed for each class.

Engineers
Sylvari would get seed/plant turrets.
Humans would get a less steampunk feel.
Norn would get a more naturey feel without being actual plants. (Possible wurms, as well.)

And then if we take that step, we might as well say that your personal storyline choices during character creation affect your skills.

Say you made a golem as your first thing for an Asura. One of your elites is now a golem and your utility skills are golemancy based.

Say you picked Kormir as your god for a Human. You now have Kormir-based skills (not just one).

Just out of curiosity, what Fractal level are you/how many fractals have you done? The up close encounters you can learn how to deal with by using melee weaponsets. It teaches you how to mitigate damage instead of just playing safe.

The point I was making is that it wasn’t the REACTOR that caused the explosion, it was cultural contamination! Dimensional collapse was never an issue until OUTSIDERS started messing with the Matrix Cube sub-processing interdimensional controls. I’ve seen them! Jumping around the reactor like it is a playground, encouraging young Asura to do the same! Greed and curiosity caused Thaumanova to go critical, not any flaw in Asuran engineering or mathematical magnanimity!

I don’t recall them saying it will be fixed properly. Do you have a source for this? Afaik, the band-aid fix was their solution, and they felt it solved the problem well enough.

The band-aid was to stop the game from flipping out when things shatter too fast. It’s still possible to re-create the bug which enticed the band-aid patch, but it’s harder to do. Essentially, you have both shatters explode at the same time and then the game may apply both shatters to a single clone.

What people would do is an F3 and an F1 at the same time, causing huge spikes of damage as the enemy would have 25 stacks of vulnerability AND be taking ~4-7 F1 damages.

Mimic doesn’t quite “absorb” the first shot. It’ll store it AFTER you take the hit. So, yes, you can take the Agony Axe of the Mossman… if you time it, survive it, and don’t go down before throwing it back.

Am I incorrect in thinking this?

Honestly, sometimes my finger slips and I hit 2 shatters at once. This “band-aid” prevents me from putting two on cooldown.
