Keep in mind: Running 2 sigils of bloodlust bugs and gives you 2 stacks but only the stats of 1 stack, thereby decreasing the effectiveness of the sigil by 50% as it can’t reach full effect.

Also, sigil of blood has a 5 second internal cooldown as opposed to the 2 second cooldown stated in the tooltip.

The point is, THEY ARE BAD even when taking into consideration what ever they do good. Stop settling for garbage. I’m trying to make a the profession better for everyone else. If you’re ok with the Engineer, just get off the forums and let the people who have constructive feedback for Anet handle it.

I don’t see any constructive feedback, merely criticism without the constructiveness attached. If you are aiming to suggest, I suggest going to either the Suggestions section, or actually adding a suggestion to your post.

Not that Arenanet will take it into consideration.

If you would normally get a rally, you will be cleansed of Illusion of Life.

In my fractal runs today and yesterday, I noticed my allies were not being cleansed of illusion of life, even when they should have gotten a rally (their target dying). Is it just a buggy skill, or is there something I am missing?

Who is their target? Basically, if they get an EXP notification, it SHOULD go away. Sometimes people don’t tag the mob hard enough.

If you would normally get a rally, you will be cleansed of Illusion of Life. If you do not get a rally, you will go down as if you were not up in the first place. It is possible to “die” in Illusion of Life and then when it ends, you are fully dead. If you go down in Illusion of Life, you will die.

If you want me to elaborate for people who don’t read between lines:

Toss Elixir U can be positioned the same in any scenario. 1 field reflects projectiles, 1 field stops projectiles, and 1 field grants invis, all three are defensive and can be used in mid-back lines of combat. Without having to roll dice, you can easily position it the same for all three fields.

Personal Battering Ram has a very focused usability. There is nothing more that can be said here. If you want to keep complaining about this skill, add skills from other classes too, like Arcane Thievery, Mimic, Smite Condition, Kick, and Sick ’Em.

Again skipping these three.

Utility Goggles, you’re focusing on one aspect because you don’t care about that one aspect. I personally tend to solo Supply Camps in WvW. When I do, the Scouts and their blinds are annoying and can cause me to die if I use my skills improperly.

Jump Shot, well… I already explained why your reason for labeling it as a bad skill was false, not much else to say here.

As for everything random, I’ve also already explained. You can choose to ignore it and stick your nose up because it doesn’t cater to your playstyle, or you can accept it. Either way, it won’t change anything.

Staff Phantisms bugged?

While watching it doesnt even hit the target behind it. Just jumps over it and then goes a few more feet before disappearing. This makes my build way to broken to use. Will go test it out on some actual mobs.

It shouldn’t affect it on mobs, and yes that’s what I meant to try and say (that it jumps over it). I just said it badly. I’m sitting here watching 3 Phantasms miss and have one of them hit a different target behind it…

Unless you’re doing a triple warlock turtle build, it shouldn’t make a huge difference, though.

Toss Elixir U, 2 of the 3 skills can be used as Projectile stops (yes, the blind for foes dissipates projectiles).

Personal Battering Ram is a gadget with a kd and it can be used in skill combos against walls or for disengage people in your face. Sure it might not have many uses, but it still has some usability.

Can’t say anything on Rocket Boots, Super Speed, and Throw Mine.

Utility Goggles is also used for the fury, which can be stacked higher with boon duration.

Jump Shot can easily chain into other skills during the landing animation. You can do a 2 —> 5 —> 3 —> 4 to easily get a large combo attack in, though the usability of that combo is a joke, it’s still good at showing that it IS possible to use skills during that huge landing animation.

The randomized skills are supposed to be random… it’s like saying you don’t want weapon kits to have their own skills because it changes the weapon bar too much.

Compounding Power and Mind Wrack

For any skill where illusion count effect you, look at your hotbar. However many lights are there (or not) directly correlates to the amount of benefit you gain. So if the lights go out, so does the benefit.

With that said, I think Ether Fest (heal) will take its effect from the moment you start to cast it, so if your illusions explode after the click you’ll still get the benefit.

Wrong. Ether Feast gets the bonus upon cast finish, therefore it’s beneficial to chain it with Phase Retreat (Staff2) and/or Mirror Images. The latter is only really needed in panic-heal situations, whereas the former is just a simple combination used in everyday heals due to lower cooldowns.

Forgot to mention I did my own testing on this one multiple times.

Happening to me, as well, when practicing on dummies. They will also hit a target behind the intended target if lined up properly, meaning the projectile is simply missing Diablo style even though it goes directly at said target (it travels along the actual target and goes over it, ignoring it).

Interesting discovery, though I tend to shatter right after the first auto attack, so this doesn’t make a difference to me.

Ah ok thx 4 the answer =) Although they should actually write that in the skill description…

One more question… “Illusionists Celerity” affects at least 2 weapon skill with every combo and also the clone or phantasm utility skills. Is it intended that it doesn’t stack with lets say greatsword master or blade training?
Because with the 5th minor I have 2 of 4 weapon skills with shorter recharge, so greatsowordtraining for example loses much improtance… in fact i would only trait it for the +50 might because mind stab is garbage and 6 seconds on illusionary wave is also no reason to trait it…

It stacks, it just doesn’t show up in the description. If you use the actual skill it will be affected by both.

I believe it is the actual phantasams skills charging faster.. not your ability to spit out phantsams.

This is sort of correct.

Phantasmal Haste affects the attack cooldown on Phantasms.

Aka, your Phantasms will have a lower recharge on THEIR attacks.

Aka, Phantasmal Haste does not directly affect your skills.

Aka, working as intended.

I guess there’s an age difference (or something) between the people you play with and the people I play with. I’ve not heard of an Asura called a house elf, but I have heard of them being referred to as “Yoda people” many times.

It’s funny because I’ve seen Sylvari called Elves more than Asura, and neither of them look like Elves to me.

If anything, I hear that Asura Gates are Stargates every kitten kittening day by my roommate. Can someone pass me a transmorphic phase unit, please?

Your right, the Giver’s is bugged. However, I am sure there will come a point soon where they fix it, and I personally think they will buff the boon duration to 2% as I think an exotic armor buff should offer more than a tiny 1% for the large stat buffs your giving up otherwise for it. Then it should be worth it. I like to think with the end result in mind, not some bugs that are temporary we can still plan for that extra 16% anyways. Btw, if you compare the Masterworks version of the jewel you create for upgrading your accessories against the Exotic variant, its only a difference of about +6 in healing power. Anyone think its worth an additional ecto and orichalcum ingots for such a small increase!?

You also get armor.

Regardless, I have a set of exotic givers with all the appropriate boon duration runes sitting in my inventory.

If you have deceptive evasion, you can roll twice after casting your shatter (if you have illusions that are away from the target) or cast a skill to spawn an illusion then roll to have 5+ illusions up. This will ensure the bonus 9% on all shatters.

No ty then I would lose my hp regen while using it as a kit! Think before you try to break things more. Also how it is we have 2 weapon choices. Making it a regular weapon will lose us the option of that extra weapon. Right now my build has rifle/flamethrower/elixir gun if your idea goes through I would lose my rifle – you see what I’m saying!?

Also what are you guys talking about? Sigils and weapon stats DO apply to kits now, you need to read patch notes more.

Another also, right now I can equip 2 pistols with bloodlust sigils and use flamethrower building up my power stack 2 points per kill. Your idea would make my flamethrower 2 handed meaning only 1 sigil would work – again more fail.

Actually, I believe that tactic is bugged as running 2 of any stacking sigil will give you 2x the stacks but only 1x the effectiveness (thereby capping it at 1/2). The only advantage to doing this is if you have a Conjuration or Demon Summoning sigil as those don’t revolve around giving you stats. The bug may have already been fixed, but according to patchnotes, it has not.

SUPPORT Mesmer Spotlight

Yes, there are situations where it happens and, even recently, I have done it multiple times, but let me show you why they’re not very useful situations:

  • Nightmare Tree (TA) Leaf Exploit: This is an exploit where you don’t get hit. In the one path where you do get hit (by the spiders that spawn behind you) the damage is easily stopped with a reflect, a second of AoE, or by pressing 6. Phantasm regeneration will do relatively nothing here.
  • Asuran Personal Storyline (Level 11 Golem): In this battle, the golem becomes invulnerable every 25 seconds while moving to his next position to wreck things. Instead of constantly shattering, you can spawn 3 Phantasms and just beat his health down until he moves. The Phantasms should follow him, allowing you to save your breath until the final 25%. However, this tactic is really only a tactic if you know what you’re doing and/or are a high level in which case you don’t need Regeneration. The Phantasms won’t get hit (and if they do, they’ll be one shot) so Retaliation won’t be super effective in this spot.

As for stating that the Inspiration tree is the most beneficial to allies is a joke to me as the only beneficial traits that I can see (being global in terms of builds) are Vigorous Revelations and Medic’s Feedback. The other team-helping traits HAVE to be specced for, making them choices, but not forcibly used as a support-type (although I will be honest, being able to spec Warden’s Feedback is something I miss sometimes).

The only way I can advise against it for a support build is to say that it has less feasibility for MY build as a supportive role than the trees I currently have. In my build, I could pull points from Illusions and Chaos to drop in Inspiration, but the benefit is far outweighed by the cost. Far, far, far outweighed.

In terms of fury and might generation, I simply pray to the RNG gods that I get as much as possible whilst I’m in my Staff rotation (that’s a lie, I personally don’t care as to whether or not I have Might or Fury up on myself), as I tend to have 2-3 clones up at all times, even whilst shattering. In WvWvW, it’s highly plausible for me to have 4-9 Illusions up, but the majority of them are moving, not attacking (as known to all Mesmer’s that know how to get more than 3 Illusions on the field). I don’t know why I brought this last point up.

My build lets me (unintentionally) be tankier than when wearing my knights/soldiers armor.

To reiterate (aka tldr): I don’t actually share my boons unless they’re worth sharing, as in I have a lot at near-full/high duration. I focus on doing my part instead of hoping everyone does theirs.

This way I can do things like CoF and not have a 5 minute Effigy because I’m the only person doing damage as a full-support Mesmer with no Pow/Pre.

(Also, right now I’m eating Plates of Truffle Steak Dinner as I crafted a few to test out and am burning them off slowly so I don’t really need Power. As for Precision, I’m at 46% crit chance with 83% crit damage, 93% with the truffle dinner. I think my damage is in a pretty good spot for a build that takes relatively no damage.)

And yes, at this point I can actually just take out Signet of Inspiration from my build, but that extra boon is pretty useful with 100% boon duration as every boon will be up until the next boon comes except for Protection, which I can get from Chaos Storm/Armor as well.

SUPPORT Mesmer Spotlight

We have conflicting opinions, and the information we share only helps to make this thread more informative for readers. The question that I keep asking you is, how can you advise against the Inspiration tree for a support Mesmer when it’s the only line with traits that affect allies? Mostly all of your build’s support comes from your skills and gear, not from your traits.

I don’t have anything against you and I’m not being sarcastic when I say to please explain what you mean. If you know something that I don’t, you’re only helping me to improve.. How are you building might and fury without runes of altruism or signet of battle? Whats your general rotation? I honestly believe that if the two of us were on a team together, we’d be amazing.

Well, I’ve actually kinda just ignored the support aspect of my build when playing recently and given in to a more solo-style play (again…)

As you know, I’m wearing full berz with 2xwater/2xmonk/2xmajor water/monk/sanctuary for a combined 40% boon duration. Add the Signet of Midnight (10) and the Chaos (30) for a grand total of 80% boon duration. You can then optionally add food (up to 20) for a whopping 100% boon duration.

While playing, in terms of fighting, I tend to ignore my buffs as they stack and focus on killing a mob as fast as possible. If I’m fighting against a mob (or group of mobs) that won’t go down in a single swift combo, I’ll focus more on getting boons up (e.g. Sword3 in an Ethereal or Light field) instead of just using it as an immobilize. If in these long fights (long is used loosely here), I will also use Signet of Inspiration when I see that I have a lot of boons (at near full duration) on my bar. That means that I won’t necessarily use it every 36 seconds, but when it will be the most useful.

I’ve kinda turned the build into a dps with defensive boon instead of a boon with a tad of dps. In WvWvW, I can survive any 1v1 fight by constantly getting Aegis or Protection and then stacking boons while surviving with those two. Just today, I got into multiple fights where I was fighting 1v1* against a Mesmer inside of his supply camp so the npcs slowly respawned one by one. I would take one out as the next respawned while trying to kill the other Mesmer but neither of our healthbars went down. Eventually (in all the battles), his allies came to save him (he had a commander title up and it was his worlds borderland) so I would die 1v3+NPC’s.

Of course, even without NPC’s, the battle would have taken upwards of 10-30 minutes and have been whoever made a gargantuan mistake in the battle (I managed to kill him, I believe, once in mixed water/land battle where I went down but managed to get 1 clone and 2 illusions up so he also went down and couldn’t target me [I also got pretty lucky because he went up to the surface after I had and with less health than me so I was able to res and finish him off after about half a minute of underwater down battling]).

Okay, back to my build:
I personally see the Inspiration tree as the tree for supporting allies who don’t know how to play the game. In my honest opinion, I do not see any reason to have 3 phantasms out for a long period of time while standing near each other.

Yes to troll all the other classes when they get flamethrower drops.

That’s right! We’re the engi class and we exist! We’re gonna make life hard for you somehow if we cant do it by killing you or making you sigh when we join your party.

No because flamethrower is still junk and I wouldn’t take it over rifle or pistol.

This is why i whould want a Flamethrower weapon instead of a kit.
They make it as a NEW weapon. that is Fixed and works.
(and also a few new skins to not make us all clones)

the problem is with the balancing. (as always).

But if it becomes a weapon instead of kit.. it will be 2 handed.. and therefor can not have the dmg tax. as it will already be nerfed to only have 1 sigil.. AND no longer have the incendiary ammo belt utility.

So as a weapon..it needs to become alot stronger to compensate.
Either in Raw dmg… or in added duration and stacking of burning. (or mix of both).

And perhaps That is exactly what is needed for our beloved Flamethrower.
Lose it as kit.. but get a working weapon.

Then give Mesmers fans, Thieves kataras, Warriors 2h axes, Guardians polearms, Elementalists wands, and Necromancer gauntlets.

I don’t know what people’s thoughts are about Giver’s armor and giver’s accessories, but it should be possible using things like Giver’s Orichalcum rings, earrings, and amulet to give another 10% boon duration on top of what has been discussed. Also another 6% is possible with the Giver’s exotic armor. Its total defensive set, but this is a support build and I like to see how absolute defense pans out in a fight. Also, I personally wish the pistol had a main-hand variant…I don’t think its quite fair to force mesmer’s to choose between a melee weapon and a slow-firing clone scepter when I may not want to run that way….would be nice to go pistol/focus or even pistol/pistol like the promo video’s promised us :P

Giver’s gear is bugged. It doesn’t add the Boon Duration and so it only gives you 2 stats instead of the normal 3.

I mean, how human do you have to be not to realize that a simple recalibration of the carbohypothermic intake valve release frees up the injection array subprocessing unit so that it can combocalculate the exact reverberation of the magic stream inversion coil.

Why crossthread it when you can simply multicrossthread it. Also the dimatrix array power inversion has been outdated by the new trimatrix array power inversion which has an exponentially better power inversion capacity. You don’t even need the subsonic alpha stream inversion coil at all, in fact it was proven to slow down the process by tenfold with the new trimatrix array.

There is no need to combocalculate, that’s just wasting your iterations. Simply take a quantum nucleic phasitron and adjust it to entwine into the array. You can get rid of the entire coil and intake valve.

Seriously… who taught you this stuff?

But then it’d be broken on a Boon Duration build. I get 20 sec swiftness with my build meaning that it’d stack to be infinite swiftness in and out of combat unless I got it ripped.

I don’t quite understand the purpose of your build. It seems like you’re trying to keep 3 illusions up at all times, yet you want to shatter them, but not really.

Also, iElasticity only applies to YOUR attacks, meaning it would only affect Staff1.

It’s a tweak of yours and revolves around keeping 3 illusions up at all times, be they phantasms or clones. It also does not use Shatters which is nice for new Mesmers (although bad if you plan to [learn to] play them hardcore/for a long time).

try learning how to use focus and trait it on WvW. the aoe pull is very helpful against tower defenders. I wonder one day people will scream a curtain nerf.

Yeah, this is pretty much all you need, I have 21.5 sec swiftness on my focus, sadly I don’t have the trait for focus so it’s not 100% uptime (24 sec cooldown), however, it’s pretty darn good. Signet of Inspiration gives me 18.5 sec swiftness, which is also really nice (but it screws up my curtain, QQ).

As for not having enough Might or Fury, Might stacks to about 7 by myself and if you add party stacks (since we are in a party) I can give their might back to them, which means that every time I use SoI, they have AT LEAST 14 stacks of Might, assuming they don’t give me Might or have any Might themselves. Fury I don’t worry too much about since I either get it from Chaos Armor or a Warrior… or there’s Warriors giving themselves 100% Fury anyways.

My damage is actually pretty much the same place it was when I was running full berz with ruby orbs (the reason is because I didn’t have ascended/berz rings/amulets which I have now). I hit for 1k on auto attacks, BF for 3-5k, Phantasms hits for ~4-8k.

I move my build for every fight beforehand as I know pretty much every fight I’m going to go into.

As for Regen, I don’t even look at the Chaos Minor trait for it. Chaos Armor is enough in the fights where I would need it. If I constantly drop fields, my allies will get Chaos Armor as well, meaning I can keep ~60-80% uptime on Regen with SoI. Sure, it’s not 100% but I can shatter my phantasms instead of holding them. If I do want to hold them, I can, but in those fights, they’re usually cheese so Regen won’t affect me anyways. As for getting 9sec regen every 3sec, that’s nice, but it’s also entirely situational and also means that that area isn’t getting hit, so you don’t really NEED it, in my opinion.

Also, Vigorous Revelations does indeed give Vigor, but I feel like you’re just being a devil’s advocate at this point because in previous “conversations” you berated me for running it (I took out the 10 points of Inspiration for different reasons) saying that Critical Infusion was enough. kitten This leads into my last point, sorta.

Lastly, you’re letting this conversation get personal and it’s turning into an argument, so I suggest we let it end with your response, if you want to respond.

Not getting one-shot by a bosses aoe is simply timing your rolls. Assuming you have a terrible computer and will get hit, try putting points into Tough/Vit (keep them even for best results). There are ConDmg/Tough and ConDmg/Vit gear, but it’s typically better to go full-squish and time your dodges.

I’d like to specify that although it is “Inspiration”, it does not necessarily involve the Inspiration Tree (in fact, I highly advice not going down that tree for full-support unless you want the Feedback while Reviving or are doing partial Mantra support).

@Chaos, I actually decided to re-do my skills. I’m using the same traits, but my gear is now Bers + 2x Water, 2x Monk, 2x Major Water/Monk/Sanctuary. It basically lets me do whatever I want while also giving parties gigantic amounts of boons.

The thing is.. the problem with your build wasn’t necessarily the gear (though now you must be unbelievably squishy) as much as the trait selection. I truly mean no offense bro, but lot of the trait choices contradicted eachother or weren’t effective to the overall build mission.

..And why would you recommend against the Inspiration tree? Most of our support abilities come from there. Phantasms giving regeneration, vigor on shatter, glamour augments, and plenty more.

If you know of an Inspiration Mesmer build that’s more effective without any points in the inspiration tree then please link, I’m sure I’d learn something from it.

Phantasm regeneration doesn’t get affected by boon duration. Vigor on shatter is quite useless when stacking boon duration as criticals are enough (assuming you have SOME precision), glamour augments aren’t always guaranteed to be used, however this is minor as trait swapping is as easy as weapon/utility swapping (unless you have a computer like mine where pressing H lags you for 5 full seconds).

Also, I’m using the same build as before, 10/20/30/0/10 and it has only one contradiction which is Chaos Trait5 Clones apply a random condition to nearby foes when they are killed. To be honest, there aren’t that many good Chaos tier 1 traits that I like, you can argue that iDefense is a good amount of defense, but my clones are going to die, might as well have them do something when they die.

As for the squishiness, this is why I run staff instead of GS like all the other Mes’; a defensive weapon for defensive purposes. I’ve tanked lupicus for ages (somewhere between 1 and 5 minutes) without weapon swapping from staff simply because I had aegis and vigor up almost all the time. Roll, roll, roll, staff2, roll, roll, roll. Aegis in case I made a mistake.

Please, do tell me what traits are useful on the Inspiration tree that synergize well with Signet of Inspiration? (And don’t say Phantasmal Healing because that doesn’t get affected by Boon Duration, therefore negating its intended effect in the Boon Duration Inspiration build, that trait is simply a support trait disregarding your build as it has 100% uptime as long as the Phantasm is alive. It also doesn’t synergize with SoI because of its’ low duration.)

RNG = RANDOM number generation. Capitalised the important word here that I think people forget about…

Except that no “RANDOM number generation” in any programmed game is entirely random.

But with that logic, there is no such thing as random because if you take a step back, it makes perfect sense.

Example: This random car went by.

Take a step back and look at the entire city’s views on things. The driver needed to get to someplace and took that road, therefore it was not random and was instead intentional (or unintentional, but still not random).

One can argue that a driver (still using the analogy for simplicity) can take “random” turns whenever s/he feels like it, but even that is not truly random as it takes inputs based off of previous experiences and current mental state which includes chemical balance and mental stability.

Additionally, there are a limit to the directions one can turn based off of roads and the limitations of a car, you can’t instantaneously do a 180, nor can you start taking 75 degree turns on every street you come across (unless your car is magically able to break through anything it drives across in which case you might as well have a magic car capable of making random turns).

Damage:
Typically Berserker’s (notable in speedruns), can also use any set that gives good damage output when combined with a proper build.

Support:
Anywhere from Giver’s to Soldier’s, this is mostly just a rune setup as opposed to actual stats in some cases.

Magic Find:
Typically Explorer’s, can use any set that gives Magic Find.

Note: You can run any set in any scenario, but this is just the standardization of it.

Truly? I’ve tested Blink mostly in Fractals of the Mist and Ascalonian Catacombs Explorable Mode, and I did not seem to be able to pass mobs undetected through clever use of blink.

Are there any particular places or mobs you could recommend, where I could easily notice the effects?

Well, as long as your start and endpoint are out of aggro range of a mob, you won’t aggro. It’s easier to test if you have the trait for range, but if you don’t just try an open plain (WvW is nice for this).

Sword Mesmer with at least 20 in the Dueling tree is some of the most fun I’ve had (I’ve leveled up a Guard, Warrior and Ranger). It is a very active play style without crazy button mashing. Natural things like Dodging create extra clones while crits with your sword give you Vigor to dodge more. I find myself Dodging because I can, not because I have to and it is a fun change.

Yeah, 3 dodge forward, dodge backward, cancel dodge mid-air with 3 again, shatter while hitting 2.

4 second invuln combo with mass damage.

What effects damage done by retaliation?
