If you want to beat it easily, run 1-3 in Infantile.
@Niila, it gives 1/3.
Third Area:
If you miss the catapult jump, use the hedges at the start of the next level (from the right when facing outward from the checkpoint) and, starting with a dodge-jump, work your way to the crumbling wall.
REALLY? Oh, I’m going in solo, then, baderp, sorry thanks. (Not going to close/delete so others can see.)
I have 3 roommates who also play guild wars. Although one of them doesn’t play games right now due to personal issues, the rest of us get on GW2 to WvW and party together even though they aren’t max level/max gear. The Super Adventure Box is great, but having to get a few “pugs” to join is a pain since we can talk to each other and we don’t really use the party chat. Heck, we even get a hometown friend to hop in so we have 4 people… but we need 5 to be able to do it.
Is there any way to make it so that you can join with less than 5 people but make it less… effective, aka a little harder (other than the fact that you’re running with 4 people).
Beep boop.

GS is the only acceptable weapon in PvE? Really now?
If you’re not level 80 yet, I wouldn’t suggest going solo, but you can definitely get into smaller groups either in EBG or side BL’s. The BL’s give you an easier method of getting into smaller groups (unless you’re in a top tier server) and also help teach you a lot of WvW without the same zergy tactics normally emplowed. If you are not comfortable going solo and don’t have too many WvW friends, just stick with your servers borderland as it will be a fine mixture of giant zerg and small groups.
Once you get to 80 and start gearing/speccing, go solo. You’ll improve your build by practice (assuming you can understand what skill/trait will benefit you where/when, which is why the forums are a nice place to research) and then find your own playstyle. Eventually you’ll be able to solo camps by running into them instead of just pulling one mob at a time.
But then what? Every week the world resets to it’s former glory? I understand where you’re coming from, but what about people just taking rocks from the sides of maps to get on top of the barriers and then just dropping in a keep from above, they don’t need to worry about any of the walls.
I use 5 superior runes of air and a focus and I do not fall behind anyone. I really don’t think it’s that bad.
Why only five? o.o
Because clearly getting a Sigil of Air on your armor is not worth 20 of a stat.
Yaks give ~1-5 points based on how long they’ve traveled. If you kill yaks as soon as they spawn, a camp will give you 6 points every 15 minutes. If you wait for the yaks to get really close to the first drop-off, you’ll get ~12 points every 15 minutes from one camp. You can also make a run to two camps in battlegrounds going near the spawn of an enemy. It’s also possible to make a triple camp run if you go through the bottom 3 while hopping to your waypoint, but most guilds (on my server) try to flip those camps.
Also, with the new WXP system, it’s more beneficial to kill the yaks then flip a camp then to just farm yaks for points, if you want to level up your rank.
Source: I kill yaks in my spare time and I pay very close attention to how many points are gained when I kill them.
Giant zerg or sma-, nevermind you’re Blackgate, just run Glamour.
I’m referring to using two thieves to kill and cap the lord room in a tower without breaking down an enemy gate or wall, or being ported in by a mesmer. That is included in the challenge. We do not break into the towers or use any siege. We are already in the tower and stay in there while it is flipped.
So the tower gets flipped, then you take it back within 30 seconds? Still sounds legit.
EDIT: /sarcasm
The only weapon I dislike and am probably in the minority for is Greatsword.
All the other weapons have their utility and place, well- torch 5 could use some help. I keep one of everything in my bag to swap as needed. The beauty of the mesmer is that we can fit ourselves to the situation at hand and use the weapons needed to achieve that.
This sentence personifies me. Although I carry more than 2 swords (not greatswords) with me at all times.
^ Wouldn’t be fair. You could make a pixel perfect jump puzzle and just have players with control defend it at all times.
Try getting Deceptive Evasion if you want clones all over the place.
For Berserker Mantra? It’s really hard to optimize it. For support mantra, look at Fay.
1vX or small group fights – none of the buffs matter.
Most of the time I die 1vX is because a Guard is hitting me. Of course, I’m not even going to bother spending any of my rank points until they add more stuff, but that’s just my 2 cents on that.
That’s a pretty sad story, I still level all my alts in WvW, sorry you guys are so concerned about missing out on an extra 1% siege damage.
Nah man, they’re missing out on that 1 siege point, because that 1 siege makes a difference when building a cata, right? Right?! RIGHT?! Oh wait, no, it really doesn’t.
It’s actually fair to have a limit on players in WvW, just like there’s a siege limit. Otherwise you’d have 10,000 people in EB vs 20.
The wvwvw limit seams somewhat low compared to server size.
By what measure? The vast majority of servers never hit queues, or hit them on only one of four maps. That makes it seem like a pretty good limit!
I think he’s comparing server size to WvW limit directly. Not including the PvE’rs, the fact that a single server doesn’t handle the entire server/world means that there has to be some sort of limit. Even with the current system in place, there is skill lag occuring due to servers getting 100% cpu usage… and yet people want MORE people to go in. Why? Because they aren’t in the mindless zerg.
Guardian skill ‘Sanctuary’ will destroy any portal bomb.
See? Control skills.
Please don’t remove it, I find them cute and adorable. Let me have my checkerboard!
Breaking into a tower, killing lord and capping tower in 30 seconds. Sounds legit… /sarcasm
NSP has queues in EB if you want to join the giant blob. Otherwise, there’s no queue for the side BL’s unless our WvW guilds decide to camp a BL on a specific day. It’s rare, but it does happen. You’ll always be guaranteed into one of the maps.
EVERY defence? What if you strategized to counter it. You can tell if an invisible player is near you because you will take very minor tick damage. It’s an invisibility bug that causes 5-30 damage. If you’re that well-organized, you will react to the damage and use Control skills to stop any invisible player running through your forces.
I’m on blackgate, we are in tier 1 btw, not t2. and don’t let one guy make us all look bad. the rest of us comprehend the concept of borderland caps and the reasons behind them., thanks and have a nice day
Yeah, sorry about the T2. I used to be “guesting” on BG before guesting was implemented, and that was when the whole JQ team-up fiasco was going on. I assumed you guys stayed in T2 after dropping.
The whole reason why the OP is making you look bad is because he thinks that the game is his and ANet is hosting it instead of it being ANet’s game and him playing it.
So.. you want culling back, then…?
What does fixing skill lag have to do with culling?
ikr, some ppl r just idiots who have no idea how things work..
but if it fixed the skill lag, ya i would rather the culling back tbh, i was adapted to it already.
Well it depends. there is the server lag where you can’t cast a skill for upwards of 30 seconds, which has happened to me before, but there is also a client-based lag which occurs on lower-end machines. My machine is mid-low end and gains that lag when in giant groups regardless of the server-sided skill lag being there. Culling would fix that issue, but I don’t care about it.
As for the server skill lag, it doesn’t happen to me since I don’t go to EB, anyways. The attitude of the people there on my server is terrible since they are all zergers that tend to not think for themselves. (Sorry for overgeneralizing, people on my server, but it’s kinda true…)
Hi Devon while we have you’re attention , There is a simple fix , make the game less zerging ? with different capture/points etc
More capture/points would benefit zerging. If you spread out the rewards or forced multiple objectives to occur simultaneously, it would remove a giant zerg, but it would also prevent solo play.
If you think about it, World Vs World is a war simulation. In war, you have large-scale fights between two giant groups. You also have guerrilla tactics (small groups) and spread out attacks, but, in the end, it is two armies battling head to head. To say that zerging needs to be removed is like going to a battlefield and saying “let’s stop fighting as a giant army and instead only fight in groups of 5. So I’ll send 5 soldiers, and you’ll send 5 soldiers, okay?”
Yes, in the game perspective, zerging is dumb and annoying. It grants huge incentive to players who don’t want to/don’t have to think. It’s the same mentality as 8v8 sPvP where you aren’t learning how to play the game (in this case WvW), but instead are learning how to play a clusterkitty.
But it works, so that’s why it won’t stop. Sure, there are times when you have to split your zerg and there are other times when you need to combine your zerg, but that’s all about commanders and smart players which is seen in higher tiers. In lower tiers, you’ll just see people running in with a huge group. This means that solo play is more effective since if one person is flipping camps while that persons world has a zerg [or two] running around grabbing keeps/towers, the giant zerg will also stop by the camps and re-flip them giving the other zerg more time to take keeps/towers.
Of course, it doesn’t make the game anymore fun, but it is a war simulation, in the end, even though it is a game. It’s like hating the game because it’s possible to kill Dolyaks and that they give you meat, which makes them a viable method to farm for slabs of meat, but then begging arenanet to change it because you don’t want to kill Dolyaks.
Long post is long.
tl;dr: Zerging is bad, but it will, pretty much, always be there.
So.. you want culling back, then…?
It’s actually fair to have a limit on players in WvW, just like there’s a siege limit. Otherwise you’d have 10,000 people in EB vs 20.
If you want to limit players in certain maps then add a “next available” to the options. Otherwise you have a three hour wait to get into “what ever crap map” that makes people angry enough to post here.
A next available option…? Like… you know… the queues…? You put yourself into Blackgate. You suffer the consequences.
Blizzard has terrible launchday etiquette and makes more than Arenanet by a longshot. Don’t say that they owe you anything. You’re playing their game. They’re not hosting yours.
Coming from NSP, we did, a few times, sit with HoD, but we were typically waiting for them to whittle/get whittled down by/with you and then go in and sweep.
It’s actually fair to have a limit on players in WvW, just like there’s a siege limit. Otherwise you’d have 10,000 people in EB vs 20.
You’re on Blackgate, a tier 2(last I checked) server. They are focused on WvW, what do you expect?
Hey hey can a GM close this thread and delete it ! Threads that say nerf are against the rules !
And threads/posts that specifically ask for/call out a GM are also against the rules. Use the report button, please.
10/20/10/25/5 where my phantasms and I do about the same amount of damage. I picked Mesmer because I loved the Mesmer in GW1. I also love the idea of deceiving and confusing enemies.
I’m a phantasm mesmer and I don’t run Signet of Illusions unless I’m in sPvP/tPvP. You shouldn’t expect to have 3 phantasms out, and if you do, they aren’t going to die at that point (unless it’s sPvP or tPvP).
For WvW, I run Decoy, Blink, Arcane Thievery. I swap AT to Feedback/Null Field if I go against a zerg/with a zerg.
For WvW I’m running Valk armor and Berz weapons/trinkets. I have a little bit larger of a health pool and I do crits 10% less of the time.
Raw DPS is a weak spot too; they can create a fairly good spike (Though not as good as a thief), but sustained DPS falls behind that of most other classes.
Phantasm Mesmers can constant spike but it’s not really us spiking it (and has a charge-up).
Condition Mesmers can constant dps but it takes charging up time.
This is standard information, nothing new here, but really it’s just…
For all who didn’t know…
- Look for the down-symbol above someones head.
- Look at one of your clones/phantasms. They aim ONLY for the real one if cast on the real one.
- Look for the down player that comes out of stealth instead of just appearing.
- Look for the player that throws rocks faster.
- Look for the player that stops throwing rocks to do something else, namely hold his hand up and spawn a rogue behind you or heal up.
Beep boop, good luck stomping.
Also, random question/food for thought:
Why do people in WvW occasionally let themselves get stomped and not do anything. Many times an Ele, Thief or Mesmer could give me trouble but instead sit there and don’t even bother throwing rocks, much less moving.
Also if your human, get yourself Hounds of B! that will tag the zerg for you
Instead of using Time Warp ikittenvZ? Interesting… I might have to start running Mistfire Wolf again, but the cooldown is atrocious and the duration does not compare to my Golems… I have lost an occasional 1v2 against thieves because of thieves guild. Pesky NPC’s don’t drop aggro when down2’ing.
Continuing on with the last statement: Decoy is the oddball here. Decoy has an interrupt cast time, as I like to call it, where you don’t actually cast, but you do interrupt yourself.
Mantras, on the other hand, can be cast (once charged) while channeling, as usual. (In case you didn’t know.)
Mesmer are a very versatile class and can do a lot, but remember no mesmer can do all of them at the same time. You have to focus your build to be good at your role.
And there are a few roles we struggle with. Leveling 1-40 in PVE, tagging in PVE, roles that require mobility outside of sPVP (supply runs, chasing, etc.), and sieging are principal among them. Bunkering is not one of them. There are actually at least 2 really good bunker builds for us out there.
Condition removal isn’t as good as most other classes, but can be done if specced right, you just have to build for it a little more than others.
I would like to respectfully disagree. If you mix and match, leveling in PvE should be a breeze after level 7-13. Radiation Field (Asura) + Chaos Storm (Staff) + Weapon Swap (Greatsword) + Spam 1-5 = Huge AoE clear. I used that combo all the way up to 80 and kept playing that until I started tweaking for dungeons. Heck, I didn’t even learn about Deceptive Evasion until I was at 1.4k Achievement Points (currently sitting at 5k, using them as waypoints of “knowledge”). Didn’t swap out of greatsword until about 2.4k. Didn’t run berserker until 3k.
Tagging is still a problem, even with Radiation Field and Chaos storm alternation due to cooldowns still coming in the way. If I were to run Pain Inverter, I might be able to have near 100% uptime on tagging assuming mobs aren’t getting killed before they strike, but it’s not a guarantee and relies too much on being Asura.
Running supply is quick and easy if you use focus to get swiftness (or centaur runes) and then blink+staff2 off a critter.
Chasing will always be a problem if you don’t get lucky on your chaos storms or critter placements.
Sieging is definitely a problem.
Just my 2 cents, although forcing someone to be Asura to level 1-40 easy is a bit.. well.. unreasonable.
Doesn’t Proximity Anguish tick for like, 5-30 damage anyway? I’d like to see a combat log where it went up to 15k, because I have heard of that happening all of never.
It has been days since the patch, and Anet is still allowing people to get instantly blown up with combat logs showing 5-12damage
Back to the OP… just because you see 5-12 damage on your combat logs (for reasons already explained) doesn’t mean that’s where the 15k nukes are coming from. If you want a straight answer pertaining to how you’re getting nuked, either show us a video or get us a combat log and not just one thing on the combat log. I can say I got illed by an invader in WvW because I took 500 damage. How’d I get nuked for 18k? Oh, that’s right, they didn’t just auto attack me once.
If you’re going 30/20/0/0/20, Staff is out of the question. Just run GS and use Greatsword Training. If you REALLY want Empowered Illusions, drop Rending Shatter, but that’s not going to help you much. You might also want to consider the remove boon on shatter trait, shattered concentration. It definitely helps against professions/builds that
Don’t get Eagle runes in WvW since you’ll never be full health (and in the rare situations that you are, you don’t need the bonus damage). Scholar, Air, Ruby Orbs, Centaur and Divinity are your best choices, but it’s all preference. Merging sigils of air/fire with air runes lets you get massive bursts out, but divinity/orbs/scholar are more sustained dps (kinda awkward saying that when your dps is all from crits, which IS a nuke and not really sustained). Centaur is if you want to move fast since you ARE roaming.
If you’re going to use a staff, you might want to overhaul the entire traits and run either 20/20/0/0/30 or 0/20/20/0/30 or 0/20/0/20/30, you get the point. You would trait for staff or focus and then get a minor in one of the respective trees. For Illusions, you would grab iPersona and get in peoples face more.
Because 1600 toughness is a lot…
wearing bows. 8D
. . . you walk through the door at work and try to ‘Blink’ past the time clock to get ahead of the line.
LoS required, tried to use it to past the line of coworkers at the bar the other day too. Even hit my hotkey. . . if the keyboard had been in my hand. = /
I’m honestly concerned for you.
Me too, he doesn’t have a computer with him at all times.
I used to run GS/Staff in PvE. I also used Radiation Field. I would gather up as many mobs as possible, then use Radiation Field, Chaos Storm, GS4/2/3/5 —> loot all.
