I think it all comes done to weapon specks really. If you are getting good procs and running a condition build, I think the staff would have the highest dps but it has no burst. GS and sword are pretty much pure burst weapons. If you hit with all attacks, I believe the warden is far and away the strongest attack in the game. Just running a partial phantasm hybrid setup, iwarden will hit a gate for 200-420 (scaling up with each hit). Using an average of 310, that’s 3720 damage to a gate!

thats not how damage tooltips work.

That’s not a very helpful comment.

Elaboration would be awesome.

The damage scales up because it’s tallying the total damage.

Assuming the iWarden hits a gate 10 times for 20 damage, the tooltip will show 200 damage at the end. Why? 20 + 20 + 20 +… 10 times is 200. It’ll go 20 —> 40 --> 60 —> 80 --> ~~~ —> 200.

Of course, that’s not the correct hits or damage on a Warden, but I was just elaborating in a way that would let you make sense.

If “combo” damage worked that way then a Warden could effectively 5-7shot an enemy. That way being each hit deals the amount shown in the air, not the amount shown in the air is your total off of the current attack.

The reason why it tallies it together as one damage is because it’s all coming from one damage source/attack and not multiple sources/attacks. I hope that clears it up.

That would make zero sense. The first hit for iWarden on the gate is just over 200, that would mean the next hit would be double that and so on. This is simply not the case when iWarden attacks. In my experience, I have seen the numbers go up, but they aren’t in some sort of addition progress but rather what looks like a variable addition to each attack that hits. In this case it was like 210, 232, 249, 269, … to 413.

you’re seeing things wrong. if your first hit is 200, then the second would be 400. but you’ll never get that kind of numbers on gates.

maybe you’re seeing autoattack numbers besides the phantasm damage, and you’re confused.

Yeah, that doesn’t happen to me. The damage ticks up very slowly when I drop wardens on gates. The only time something like that remotely happened was when my GS was auto attacking Walls not gates, because it wakittenting Walls for full damage, but that was standard +hit+hit+hit, not random base +hit+hit+hit.

It would be broken if it compounded any other way, because it would essentially be a near exponential damage growth curve if it was done the implied way. The current way makes it very balanced. If you trait into it, it’s still better to shatter with 3 than with 1, of course.

The damage is the total damage. Aka
1 Illusion: 570 =570 per illusion
2 Illusions(2x): 760 =380 per illusion
3 Illusions(3x): 1000 =333 per illusion

Is the correct table. The reason why you saw 1k, 1k, 200, 200 is because the last two weren’t crits while the first two were. I’m assuming you’re running Berserker’s so you have ~100% crit damage, making your crits do ~2.5x damage.

333 * 2.5 = 832.5

Assuming you’re also running the +3% damage for each active illusion (yes, this also applies to illusions as they’re shattering, making it more effective to shatter 3 at the same time then to have 1 explode while 2 run in), the equation will be
333 * 2.5 = 832.5 + 9% = 907.blahblahblah

Of course, that doesn’t account for armor nor does it apply Might/Vulnerability to the equation. You are running iPersona, so I’m assuming you shattered with one clone next to you while 2 ran forward to shatter after. This makes the math seemingly accurate to say that the damage is justifiably correct.

Oh, and in regards to getting the most damage on Mind Wrack, I’ll have to do some math tests, but since I don’t have all the variables, I’m going out on a limb and going to say it MIGHT (don’t quote me on this, please) be more effective to 1shatter with iPersona and ONE clone AS you’re using Mirror Images to get a shatter of 1 clone and yourself while having 3 clones out. The timing on that is quite erratic, but it can be done.

Good luck.

The tooltip is X damage to Y target from Z source.

X will scale up per hit.
Y indicates how many tooltips will appear (1 for each target).
Z is the source AND attack, aka if I have 3 iSwordsmans, they will each spawn their own tooltip but it will show it to you.

So, if I attack with Blurred Frenzy while the enemy has 2 stacks of bleeding and 1 stack of burning and I have 1 Swordsman and 1 Warden up, I have a potential of 5 different numbers popping up on a SINGLE enemy. If there are multiple enemies, then I will have 2-4 stacks of numbers popping up for each enemy +1.

Why?
Blurred Frenzy is AoE.
Warden is AoE.
Swordsman is Single Target, therefore +1 at the end (for the first guy who has it).
The reason why it’s 2-4 numbers is because of Bleeding/Burning. Assuming I can get Bleeding from Warden, it should be easy to see the numbers settling at ~3 per target, +2 on the main target, but what if I had a method of applying AoE Burning, so… there we go.

Comprende?

As for knowing which target is getting hit, get good at eyeballing it. I typically don’t look at my numbers at all. I don’t care if I hit for 2k or 10k, I don’t care who I’m hitting. I just want to kill my target and move on to the next guy. At least, in WvW that’s how I play. In PvE, it’s a different story.

Why would you end with an interrupt? The only interrupts in your build are F3 and GS5, so ending with an F3 is kinda counter-intuitive.

What I would do as a GS S/T shatterer is start with Torch4 —> Blink onto them as it finishes —> Roll + Mirror Images + F3 —> Sword 3 + Roll —> Sword 3 + Sword 2 —> Roll + F1 —> GS2,4,5 Roll Shatter —> Torch 5 —> Torch 4 —> Roll as it finishes —> Sword 3 —> Shatter —> Sword 3 —> Sword 2 —> etc etc etc

Your method gives wayyy too much opening right after you nuke them. Unless you aren’t nuking them hard, it’s really an unattractive way of fighting them and requires so much more skill and effort than whakitten ’s worth. You can just start off with some standard interrupt/disrupt control and then work your way into a shatter factory.

Your best bet would be full condition damage build and to Blind as often as possible. It’s really the only way to counter spammable Blurred Frenzy, Distortions, Blinks, and invisibles, as condition damage still ticks throughout everything.

Immobilize is also a killer because it is not a stun, which means Mesmers cannot Blink or Decoy out of it (you can Blink, but you’re still Immobilized). Only way to counter this is to get lucky with a Warden’s cleansing bolts, sacrifice a traited heal Mantra, or force a traited Prestige. Immobilize stops clone production from dodges, and keeps pressure on Mesmer. Make them panic and look for the slip-up.

A traited condition damage sword/bow Warrior with Throw Bolas, if played smartly, will have it easier against a Mesmer with a total of 11s of Immobilize. The sword alone has 4 second Immobilize every 10 seconds. First Immobilize, force their Blink/Decoy, close the gap and force their panic button, the Blurred Frenzy. Dodge that and go for the Flurry.

Best advice would to play the class you want to counter to really understand what’s going on. One of the most predictable things about Mesmer is that about 99% of them will have Blink/Decoy, regardless of build.

Blind spamming gets countered by Blurred Frenzy and Chaos Storm. Both of them will de-apply the blind and let you open a Phantasm spawn (Chaos storm does it better as it continues to “attack” while you cast other things, whereas Blurred Frenzy will deal all damage except for the first hit as you are invulnerable to the blind, even while standing on a field).

From what I hear, especially in WvW, Thieves have a sort of skillcap. It’s not that you can’t improve after a certain point, because everyone can always improve, it’s simply that after a certain point they can’t really do much in a fight. When you’re going against someone who knows how to fight a thief, the thief won’t be able to insta-gib them.

Think of thieves as a one-trick pony with each build being a different pony, but almost all doing the same thing, just with a tweak here and there.

Mesmers, on the other hand, have a very high skillfloor and then a ridiculously high skillcap. What this means is thakitten typically takes a lot of skill and/or understanding to get good at playing a Mesmer, AND once you’ve made it over that hump, you won’t stop improving.

Plus, since Mesmers are built around Control (not necessarily crowd control) and Misdirection, there are hundreds of ways of doing everything differently. (part of why some people believe there is no skill cap on a mesmer.)

This is, of course, just a rough description of both. Considering I haven’t yet brought a Thief (or any class other than Mesmer) into WvW, keep in mind that my view is skewed.

@Osi, I can see a toughness healing setup being viable when helping weak friends get through areas using a knock-off Fay mantra heal build, but it’s hard to get useful toughness healing stats on gear. If any stat combinations were possible, you could even try getting it to be Healing/Toughness/Power with any one of them being the main stat and then going Phantasm/Mantra heal where you drop 3 Phantasms for regen while spamming Mantras for the AoE heals. Of course, it would be a little bit hard to balance iDefender with Mantras because you’d also want Signet of Illusions, which would mean spamming Mantra of Pain and Mantra of Restoration only, but it can easily be done, so I dunno.

Just food for thought. Of course that’s nowhere in the direction that this build is going.

Although Mirror and Mantra of Restoration are not to be ignored. Yes, you can play through thousands (yes thousands) of hours before switching out of Ether Feast, but now I’m hooked on Mirror. Mantra of Restoration is useful for condition removal with Mender’s Purity and/or in conjunction with on-heal runes. Mirror also combos well with on-heal runes due to it’s cooldown being very manageable. The reflect is also nothing to scoff at.

In the end, you can do the math and, last time I checked (might have to re-do the numbers, but I can’t because I have to wake up early tomorrow) Ether Feast gets slightly more heal/second than Mirror, even without Illusions. However, keep in mind that in WvW you do get nuked, so having a heal on a shorter cooldown may keep you alive. In sPvP the fights don’t tend to go in that direction, so you should be fine with Ether Feast or Mantra of Recovery (if you’re doing a Mantra sPvP build).

Also, perma-regen from Phantasms is nice, but it’s not very noticeable as a Mesmer. If anything, when I try to get heals from regen, I end up being disappointed because I heal more off of a Minor Sigil of Blood than I do from regen (over the course of about 10 seconds, being eyeballed, of course).

Since this is a Spineguard the lowest most common item you can use to transmute it with is your personal story back piece at something like 30 however there is two ways I know of to get it lower. The first is a level 15 Holiday gift back item that given out late last year if you happen to still have that sitting in your bank or if you buy Rox’s quiver it comes with a cosmetic (no stats) spineguard that you can use to transmute it with.

You can also get a Quaggan Backpack. There are 2 versions of each type in the Trading Post. One of them is the skin, the other is the skin AND a level 0 account bound backpack. Or, if you don’t want to risk buying the wrong one, you can just buy a Quaggan/Charr backpack from the Gem Store.

Simply don’t use the Quaggan Backpack on the level 0 account bound backpack and transmute the -insert backpack here- onto it.

If you want some condition removal, run Arcane Thievery, Null Field or iDisenchanter. Illusion of Life is useful when playing with unfamiliar players in easy areas… etc etc etc.

Chasing down opponents?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

Everyone will have trouble chasing down opponents without swiftness. Osicat has an inventive solution though. I believe it works by targeting the fleeing enemy, turning your back to them and using Phase Retreat (Staff #2) then turning around and using Blink to close the gap even more. I’ve never used it but the logic behind it is sound.

By the way, Temporal Curtain works both ways. You can place it in front of an enemy to cripple them when they run over it then use it again to pull them towards you.

Just to clarify – the direction that Phase retreat tosses you is always relative to where your targeted enemy is. You will always get tossed away from your target. The direction you face is completely irrelevant (unless you have nothing targeted at all).

Actually, if you have a specific setting in your settings, it’s possible to ignore your target, but that will also make your staff auto attacks be skill shots, so…

Other solutions, however, are targeting enemies, critters, neutrals behind you and then casting Phase Retreat, or de-targeting, turning around, and then pressing Phase Retreat. If all else fails, you can blink ahead of a different opponent or Blink to a spot that lets your Phase Retreat position you well. It’s really more of standard combination to boost yourself, but be careful of Blink —> Phase Retreat past an opponent, because they can just turn around.

Scepter is also a far cry from being of any use in WvW or pretty much any aspect of the game in its current state.

Actually, if you use a Scepter with MoP, you can guaranteed cast-cancel the third strike every time, giving you a reliable ranged auto attack with an off-hand while spamming MoP.

Additionally, about the Glamour trait, it’s not entirely useful after the nerf to it adding a cooldown. Not to say that it’s bad, but if you’re going solo/small groups, it’s not outstanding, so there can easily be better choices.

Sorry, I’m going to edit my post. I meant to say Phantasms, not Illusions. You kept talking about the weapon Illusion, so my mind was thinking Phantasm but my fingers were typing Illusion.

The underwater would be the only thing that needs to be confirmed client/server side.

You can always find a few bypasses to that. If you’re Asura and you wield a Wooden Sword in your off-hand, it helps. If you’re any other race, and using a Focus, you can opt for Glint’s Scale or Bloodseeker. For Pistols, aim for the smallest possible. Good luck with off-hand swords, though.

Note: Glint’s Scale and Bloodseeker are both unnoticeable on Asura as well as other races. Wooden Sword’s are also pretty undetectable unless you’re rolling or casting with your off-hand.

If you’re looking for dungeons for Berserker stats go for CoE, CoF and Arah.

Phantasms can run full berserk, although I sometimes switch to my valkyrie armor set for a little more beef and a different runeset, but the difference between the two is slightly negligible (2k hp vs 10% crit chance).

For runes, if you want the cheap route, go for Ruby Orbs. You can switch to something like Runes of the Air or Centaur for more mobility, Scholar if you’re extremely competent, Melandru for condition defense, and a few other sets which are all your preference.

Sigils, you’re going to want Energy (if you can afford it) and probably a Bloodlust or Precision stacking sigil. You can also run some Night on secondary weapon sets (preferably with Ghastly [Ascalonion Catacombs] skin so they glow at night so you see if the sigils are on or off). You can also run Battle, Might, Accuracy, Force, Air, Fire. There are a few things I’m missing.

So find gear that gives you condition damage as the main stat and just work around that. There aren’t many setups that do that, and at your level I think you only get 2 stats on each item (if you do get 3, go for the names he mentions), so it shouldn’t be too hard.

Berserker is good, but don’t expect your staff (if you decide to use one) to do amazing amounts of damage. If you are going to use a staff with berserkers, it’s mostly used as a defensive tool with the main offense coming out of #3 Phantasmal Warlock and #5 Chaos Storm, both of which benefit from Pw/Pr/Crdmg.

It really depends, fadeaway. I agree that Greatsword is more overall damage, but in terms of having one build for both PvE and WvW, I stick with Staff + Sword/Sword/Focus. Using Staff defensively is amazing in dungeons, letting you get out of a sticky situation. Greatsword offers little to no chance of doing that (unreliable cripple and a knockback don’t really help vs bosses).

My mentality is if you’re going for a Phantasm build, you should just go all the way. With that said, however, my build should get rid of the 10 points in chaos and utilize them more effectively, possible putting them into Inspiration and Illusions or Dueling.

I’m sorry but IMO swiftness isn’t that great of a boon in Dungeons (I dont care what you do in open PvE, you can pretty much do whatever you want there). For me its defenetly not good enough to spec on Boon duration to get a 100% uptime in dungeons (a lot of other classes have an easier way to buff your party with it too).
In the same manner I was refering to bosses/stronger mobs in Dungeons when speaking about the focus #5 phantasm. Often times bosses will run out of its attack range (even with sword #3 snare) or simply kill it in one hit.

I definitely agree. I used to run 100% Boon Duration and in Dungeons, I was beefy due to Aegis/Protection but it was RNG for application and it wasn’t superbly useful.

In Open-World PvE/WvW, I’m able to keep nearly 100% uptime swiftness WITHOUT any boon duration (unless you count swiftness duration from centaur runes). The trait in Focus in my build isn’t for more swiftness, but it does come in handy when I’m roaming. Mirror/SoR + Curtain = Nearly 100% uptime if you have centaur runes (air gives you less uptime, but you get more damage).

As for bosses, there are bosses which Focus #5 is extremely useful, but when I’m in dungeons, I’m always moving around my traits/weapons based on what I’m going against. That’s why my build tends to be S/F + Staff AND S/S + Staff. Really, I was explaining more for WvW than dungeons, as Swiftness isn’t really a need for dungeon runs unless you’re speedrunning, which is something else.

Esplen, ok I wasn’t aware that empowered illusions and phantasmal strength stack. A 30% dmg increase by phantasms may just be worth loosing the staff cooldown trait. Thank you for taking the time to post, I really do appreciate the help.

Oh, be careful when swapping builds to the Phant build I linked. The trait in Staff is AMAZING and one thing I definitely miss in my build. I love having a 5 second stunbreak, but I don’t get it in my build, so my Staff isn’t as defensive as I’d like it to be.

Basically, I can’t just stand around in staff for a full minute without weapon swapping and not suffer too harshly (except for damage loss). With my build, I have to constantly be weapon swapping and using all my cooldowns to maintain phantasms and survivability.

The focus reflect is indeed a really strong trait in some scenarios. Beeing able to knock down/pull enemies is also not too bad.
But the focus phantasm is one of the worst if you dont use it to block/reflect projectiles, since it needs a lot of time to get its damage done, as well as having a high cd. Also the Temporal Curtain speedbuff is not that great, considering it wont stack with other already existing speedbuffs.
IMO focus where you can reflect stuff and pistol/sword when you can’t is the most efficient choice.

Eh, if used properly, you can get almost full effect from both the skills in a Focus. There’s a combo in the Focus to guarantee most, if not all, hits from the Warden if the opponent does not use a stunbreaker. The combo is as follows:

Run towards opponent.
Drop Temporal Curtain (behind the opponent).
Start casting Illusionary Warden.
Right before Illusionary Warden finishes, cast Into The Void (Temporal Curtain combo).
Finish casting Illusionary Warden.

Proceed to combo knockdowned opponent with a Warden smacking him.

As for the Focus not giving a useful speed buff, I do agree when you have random stacks of minor swiftness (THANKS RANDOM PEOPLE RUINING MY CURTAIN), but if you’re able to coordinate your own buff bar, you can easily get what you need out of Curtain.

With high Swiftness/boon duration and speccing into the Focus, you can easily get 99% Swiftness uptime. (The 1% being re-casting and not being able to stack them.)

I used to run around with 100% boon duration which would easily have netted me that near perma Swiftness uptime if I had specced into Focus. As it stands now, I have 99% uptime with Runes of the Centaur + Focus.

Drop Curtain —> Run through while casting Heal (I use Mirror for the shorter cooldown).

Spam heal every chance you can.

When Swiftness is about to run out, drop curtain in front of me, eyeballing the distance it takes for me to reach it so I can get there as my Swiftness runs out.

Rinse and repeat.

In your first build… why do you pick 10 in domination for +100 power and +15% phantasm damage when you could put it in inspiration for +100 vitality, +15% phantasm damage AND a major trait of your choice?

Illusionary elasticity is not so useful because your staff attack is going to be a small fraction of your damage. I’d take those points out of your second build and find somewhere else for them.

Is there a reason you don’t want to use focus for pve? It’s very good, especially with the reflect trait.

I’m not sure how moving 10 points from Dom to Insp would give 15% more damage to phantasms…am I missing something? Unless you mean dropping Dom and all but 5 points in Illusions to make this: http://tinyurl.com/cbvzave . All that extra vit. would fit into the tanky build as it stands now. I’m not a big fan of the focus personally and I’ll admit to being a bit lazy and using the rather frequent speed buff from signet of Insp. to help get around.

What I run (with S/S + Staff and sometimes S/F + Staff) is http://tinyurl.com/aa2m8te
IGNORE THE SKILLS/GEAR, I just used your link and then moved around the traits.

If you don’t want a Focus, trade the spec for anything that you see that you like.
The reason why we ignore Illusion tree is that the usefulness of what you get tends to contradict what you’re aiming towards. In your builds that you show, you tend to use Illusions. By speccing into them, you can increase their damage by a sizeable amount. Ignoring the Illusion tree lets you focus more on Illusions instead of yourself (something you should be doing as a non-condmg staff mesmer*).

*: Unless you’re using staff as a defensive mechanism and not a quasi-offensive weapon.

As it stands, your build looks like it’s a clone factory with the purpose of the opponent killing themselves off of clones while you whack them with a staff. It doesn’t look or sound very effective, which is why you have to figure out where you want to be. Do you want to be a condmg staff user that utilizes elasticity, or do you want to focus on clones and pump them out asap (not recommended) so that opponents hurt themselves when they die (definitely not recommended).

Cease all actions thus concerning this matter. ArenaNet is very ban-happy and all they need is a reason. Don’t give them one.

That is if they ruin the economy. An action like this will not ruin the economy (nor did using Runes of the Noble to spawn an ungodly amount of Drakehounds).

There is a Toy Sword bundle. I forget where, but it’s in the same skin as the “Wooden Sword” and it gives you a few melee skills.

Well, I missed the one day Karka event due to lag.
Now I missed this one due to a date change.

I’m collecting them. Will there be an achievment for missing one day only events?

Thank you Arena Net.
Sincerely.

You missed it. It was one day ago.

It’s an NPC item. I linked it in NSP and also in an Overflow in addition to the Karka Backpack. I forget the name of it, but basically it’s unobtainable, it’s just an NPC weapon link.

Having an annoying time on Southsun Cove

Fun fact: while I was writing this post, I was informed twice over teamspeak that in my AFK spot I was being attacked, and when I tabbed into the game in the midst of an event (riot of some kind) I was actually pretty healthy and managed to fight to the end of the event… though a bunch of people who had been actively fighting already when I tabbed back in were getting downed. This is a pretty good example of what I see all over the place really: it’s painful and annoying to me, fatal for others.

That’s probably because that event dishes out confusion and the enemies have retaliation. Don’t pay attention to this and you’ll down yourself. Upscaled players not used to all the conditions can easily down themselves, especially with burst skills. I had to be very careful as a FT engi.

This is a problem with Southsun and not with the event. It caters towards players with reflect, for the most part, and so players who aren’t used to modifying their builds for new zones will find great trouble in this area. That, and not all classes have a lot of reflects.

Storage for costumes needs to be implemented in some way otherwise forget it. Not buying stuff that’s going to take up my very limited room trying to force me to buy more room. That’s just stupid. You want me to buy stuff you give me room to store it and I’ll gladly start buying stuff that takes up room.

Suggestions:

  • Once you buy a costume/skin you “unlock” that skin for your account being able to apply it to any other item of the same type via drop down menu or NPC.
  • Outfit NPC. Once you buy an outfit you can show it to the npc to have the npc “remember” your costume/skin and can reclaim a copy at any time ala guild wars 1.

Do one of the above and I’ll be buying all sorts of costumes….well that and make sure they can be worn over armor without losing the armor value. Implement a checkbox on the various costume/cloths parts (left hand corner) when checked it overwrites any armor look in the same slot, unchecked it doesn’t.

These will get all my monies for costumes/skins

Ooooh gosh yes… I have nearly an entire bank tab full of town clothes (27/30 slots full of ACCOUNT bound town clothing). Add in Iron’s Tailpipe Bandana and that’s 28, not including the starting town clothing. I would really like more methods of storing items. My bank tab is full of random stuff that I can’t manage to store anywhere, and making alts to store things is getting tedious. I have multiple bank chars with too much stuff… (one of them has a few thousand salvage uses in inventory)

Can you let us dye backpieces now, please?

I too am totally in favor of dying backpack pieces especially with that squid color karka backpiece. but the problem is i dont think they will because of the backpieces you pay money for that are set at a specific color like the pink or purple quaggan backpieces. If they let us dye backpieces it would render those pieces obsolete and universal preventing Anet to make additional money off of these items

Actually… each of the Quaggan (and Charr, for that matter) backpacks are unique, not in their color scheme, but also in their designs.

Blue Quaggan Backpack is the “classic” quaggan backpack.
Pink Quaggan Backpack is the “female” quaggan backpack (complete with a bowtie).
Killer Whale Quaggan Backpack is the “sharp teeth” quaggan backpack.

Charr are mostly color schemes, though.

Sometimes you get lucky and find a period that’s out of place.

That would mean that Mesmer skills, if not the entire game, wouldn’t work at all since the game wouldn’t compile…

Regardless, maintaining code can be a disgusting process if the code is poorly written. If it’s done properly and cleanly, any change shouldn’t affect other things (bug fix here, bug appears there). Sometimes the best way to fix a bug is to re-write the entire code, which isn’t always an easy option to choose… it should really only be done as a last resort.

However, minor tweaks should be happening in between builds, if not only in the alpha server (ANet’s test server). I feel like, since making a game open-source really isn’t an option, giving players information about what tests are being conducted in the alpha would really help players understand and know that progress is being made… or tested.

AI influence in WvW

Honestly, I don’t mind that zergs can do objectives faster. What I do care about is Yaks and Sentries giving more points to players based on how many people partake in killing them.

Objectives should give a non-changing (based on player amount) of points to the world. These objectives are objectives that directly give you points, not objectives that require you to wait (keeps/towers/camps).

Not going to go too much into WXP, but I think it should be a pool that distributes based on players giving with a ceiling and floor on how much given (so that you don’t get 1 point for assisting in a camp, nor do you get 1500 for soloing a keep).

The health of the cages needs to scale, similar to King Toad, but for the most part they’re brain-dead easy. Just run around it in a circle while auto-attacking.

They do scale.

For those soloers out there

From times to times I like rolling with the zergball, since you learn to use your skills when your screen is filled with effects and your FPS is reduced drastically.. Also, when zerg meets zerg, you learn to keep an overview in all the mayhem (not just pressing tab and hitting 1, but more like: Hey, that’s their commander, let’s lure him back or kill the mofo).

That being said: I love solo more than zerg play though

Would be fun if I didn’t run a stable 15 fps when doing nothing. I can target the Commanders in ZvZ, but I can’t really react to baits and whatnot when my fps is at 4… if I’m lucky.

I’d much rather just accidentally run into a zerg and then get adrenalin as I panic and run away as fast as I can. When I go into zergs, most of the time we don’t do a ZvZ, so it’s just “mindless 1, don’t even bother with tab”… oh hey a loot bag… oh hey another loot bag… oh hey I died, I don’t wanna walk back, I’ll just wait a few for a res… oh hey a loot bag…

Whereas solo, I can take a camp slowly by killing guards 1 at a time or I can bullrush it with full zerkers and tank all the mobs and kill them all. It’s quite fun, even if I die.

  • Don’t go berserker build and complain that you die

Expanding on this…

Gear progression in GW2 isn’t just “get the most damage”. It’s “get the most damage while being able to live”, or some other compromise you can give yourself. Although you’ll throw it away, my best suggestion is to get a full-tank build first, then find a build (without the armor, you can get runes) that you like to play. From there, slowly work towards it. If you’re too squishy, just replace one or two items at a time instead of all at once. You need to ease into getting beefy with no beef, not just jump into it.

I can keep going, but I’ll move onto the next point.

You need to be able to make mistakes. When you first hit 80, you aren’t an amazing mesmer. To account for that, you need to let yourself make mistakes and survive them so you can figure out how to avoid them, but be safe if you get hit. If you instantly down off a Moa hitting you, you won’t always learn how to avoid it, but if you can take the hit from the Moa, you won’t be afraid of trying to dodge it through trial and error.

Noob, but not so much. X-D I meant: spawns randomnly on target vicinity or depens on your position?

Randomly around the enemy. If you’re using it in WvW, you can start with a Temporal Curtain —> Start Casting iWarden —> Before iWarden finishes, cast Into The Void —> iWarden finishes on a knocked-down enemy.

If you’re using it in PvE, just drop it on an enemy. If it spawns behind, it won’t reflect (as much), but it won’t die to melee, either.. at least, it’ll have a lower chance to.

3. I use my mouse to turn. Always have. I don’t have a problem with the corner jumping. I don’t understand why some people can’t or won’t use their mouse? It’s really not that hard.

Well it IS hard if you have bad lag, have arthritis in your hands, only have one hand, or perhaps some kinds of dyslexia. I honestly wish to make my content accessible to as many as possible, while still retaining difficult optional parts. Easy mode was really important to me as it provides some form of access to the content for those who wouldn’t normally be able to succeed in this kind of content due to whatever reason. But ultimately not everyone can do well in Super Mario Bros. Not everyone can do well in SAB.

I understand the Infantile Mode/reference, but it seems that most players (typically the ones that end up opting for this mode) don’t seem to understand it. Perhaps there should be a method of making it seem less of a “baby/noob” mode and more of a “normal” mode, and then setting the “normal” to be the “hard” mode.

A lot of complaints (not me, I’m fine with jumping puzzles and can’t wait for hard mode) are from people stating that they don’t like being forced to go into “baby -inserthomophobicwordshere- mode” to be able to get achievements/titles/skins. While I understand that they may not be good at jumping puzzles, I also understand that the infantile mode IS MADE FOR THEM. It’s just it does kinda sound bad for people who are unable to see/create the connection/reference.

I guess an option is to start new players in that mode, and then they can talk to the baby cloud to “upgrade” if they feel they wish to have a challenge. The cloud will then turn into a different model to reflect what mode they are currently on. If it saved what mode you were on through entering/leaving, I think that would solve a lot of problems. That way, instead of it being baby mode, it’s just “easy/normal” mode and then without it is “normal/hard” mode. Depends on how you look at it.

Then again, it might not do anything at all.
