Solo Q ofc ofc
Imo it doesn’t matter what they are if they all cost so much most players say kitten it. Idk what is the deal lately with sucking all the fun out of things by making them massive sinks, but it really does ruin it imo.
See my thread here.
According to the PvP algorithm, MMR is disabled.
Wait what? is this for real? LOL
No it’s not. It is for scoring not for matching. For matching mmr is one of the variables considered.
3. As for accusations of match manipulation.. i’m sorry but the only thing i can attribute to that is jealousy. Like people have pointed out, not everyone can get to legendary. Don’t feel the need to blame your own inability on others, you’ll only make yourself look bad.
Everyone can get to ruby though. It is the noob filter after all!
The 1st two points I won’t address, but point 3 and the post script I will.
It is now widely known that adding a player in a lower tier will make for soft matches as well as pip benefits. This is creating a epidemic in the season. It is so rampant that having a match w/o out it is a surprise. It’s even gotten to the point to where it’s one of the number one concerns about that match. Will you be facing a mmr adjusted team and lose 2-3 pips?
As for ruby being the noob filter…tbh it’s more like the solo queue filter. They created a system where individual play doesn’t really matter while solo queuing as the matchmaking algorithm will punish the solo queuer for winning more than 50%.
Well this cartoon can be toned by the 1st two frames.
Having the 1st frame shows it’s the devs’ actions that are the causation of the reaction.
Omitting the 1st frame would show an “unstable” (can’t think of appropriate word atm) consumer population.
Having the 1st frame really sheds a negative light on the devs.
Ahh ty. As it is the case mods plz close this
Anyone else seeing this? all of the guilds I’m a member of have their xp bars maxed. For example two guilds are lvl 33 one is at 6.790/6,790. The other is 6.630/6,630. Another is 5,140/5,140. So they are in essence all 10/10 without regards to consistency.
Wintersday spirit? Eye for an eye…Give whoever thought this was a good idea the “Jam of the Month Club” as their holiday bonus. Clark loved his!
Going to necro this and have to say that my fear came true. Besides the piles of snow most wintersday decor is gated behind vast gold sinks and high level scribing.
Why are most of these excessively gated?
I mean, I have been playing black lion chests so far, I buy a stack for 99c each, and then re-list for 1s10c, which nets me about 25s per stack. They usually well pretty fast, so I make a profit of about 1 gold per hour. Ideally if a cool weapon set comes out or there is a key sale, the price raises
Hate to be the one to tell you this but if you’re selling at 1s10c your return after taxes is about 94c. That means you’re losing 5c per chest or 12s 50c per stack.
This might be a little off topic but as a guild member I would like to see what upgrades the guild is working on how far along it is and what materials are need to complete it. I see nothing on the guild tab and wonder if they are working on this ?
1st place to look is the treasury. It will only accept items for upgrades that are currently available for the guild. So if you look in the donations tab and you see elder wood planks 600/1000 and mouse over it you can see what they are going towards.
Then consider what kind of guild your guild is. Is it pvp, wvw, pve orientated? Apply that to which upgrades would make the most sense. Also the mine is pretty universal, so most are continuously working on the mine upgrades.
And ofc finally just ask those in your guild who approve the upgrades what they are going to try and upgrade next. Tbh this should be the goto. I suspect they’d be more than willing to tell you.
I ‘m not sure what non-mixed capitalistic economy y’all are referring to. Could someone please enlighten me?
^ I’m not getting into all this with you, here (or anywhere, ATM).
I’ve had too many discussions about all this, already, elsewhere and this is, after all, a topic about in-game economy on a games forum.
I’d be interested to see who, here, has actually said they “hate” capitalism?
Seems to me, that no one has said that and that all the name-calling, of that nature, has come entirely from the other side.
Also, to accuse anyone, who can see the flaws in unfettered capitalism, of being ignorant, or a terrorist, is incredibly offensive.
But, I assume that was intended.
Also guys, please try to remember that you are not your economic system.
We are all human beings, first and foremost.
Economic systems are supposed to work for us; not the other way around.
nobody called anybody a terrorist, you were the first one to use that term
Well to be fair there was this tid bit:
People who hate capitalism fall into one of two groups:
1. People who don’t understand economics, see something they don’t like being done by some individuals, and blame the entire system.
2. People who understand economics, know that capitalism is the best system we’ve ever created, but rail against it in order to draw in support from the people in group 1 so that they can engage in mass genocide or set themselves up as a dictator once the existing government is overthrown by the angry mob they’ve whipped up into a frenzy with their dangerous rhetoric.
Basically saying someone may either not understand economics OR be some genocidal maniac if they do……well you can see how that might translate into calling someone a terrorist
tl;dr genocidal maniac=terrorist
I’m, obviously, mainly referring to the study mentioned in the OP, as that is the topic of the thread; but, there have been many similar studies, including one mentioned in New Scientist, a few years ago, that found that “Trickle Down” economics doesn’t work.
In fact, good, stable economies are built on Trickle Up.
As poorer and lower middle incomed people have to spend a far larger proportion of their money, leading to it feeding back into the economy and strengthening it.
If you’re going to declare that something doesn’t work, it helps to properly define it.
Trickle Down is the proven theory that if the tax rate on the wealthy is too high, cutting the rate will result in an increase in investment and spending which results in an overall economic boost for the bottom.
It is not a cure all to economic woes and it only works when the environment is right (as in, the taxes are currently so high that investment and spending is pulled back).
It is also not a mutually exclusive theory with the so-called “Trickle Up” concept.

How the? Where does something like this even…..?
Pure capitalism is just as bad as pure socialism. They both fail due to greed of individuals/group of individuals. Trickle down econ doesn’t work b/c those at the top actually don’t trickle increased resources down without it providing an increased trickle back up. Socialism fails mostly due to those in power abusing the system for personal gain…ie see russia.
Capitalism is not the best system we’ve ever created. The best system we’ve had in modern society is a mixture.
If you’re going to improperly define things, we can’t have a legitimate conversation about why you are wrong.
What did I define? You can’t just say I defined something.

If you can prove that teams are intentially lowering their group MMR for the purpose of going up against weaker teams then you have a case for banning them.
However, players have been taking low MMR players months, perhaps years lowering group MMR for the purpose of reducing queue times.
Additionally MMR is influenced by profession, you can have your own low profession MMR queue as that profession for quicker queue times then swap professions at the start of a match.
These are things that ANet has known about and never banned before the league system was implemented. So becuase of that there won’t be mass bannings of players unless there is direct evidence they have intent to play weaker teams and not reduce queue times.
This means the most likely players to be banned are players who would have normal queue times and middle percentile MMR. Top tier players have the standard of manipulating MMR for reduced queue times to fall back on, since it has always been known and not punished.
If you have evidence that any player’s intent is to manipulate MMR for the purpose (be it a top tier or low tier player) then report them and present that evidence. Otherwise there’s no reason to continue trying to burn players at the stake for reducing queue times.
That’s six of one half a dozen of the other. In other words atm those two things are essentially the same thing.
They are intentionally manipulating their teams mmr to get matches, which pits them against lower mmr teams.
Now switch it
They are intentionally manipulating their teams mmr to get pit against lower mmr teams, which gets them matches.
See how it’s the same thing?
If they were manipulating it upwards as well then you’d have a point b/c then there would be an instance where it wasn’t the same thing.
I think it’s supposed to be the howling of a blizzard.
Yep totally. Let us buy ESL cup 400k tournament champion achievement too! There’s nothing wrong with that…right…right?
Why not? If the way you like to play doesn’t reward you like other ways do, why not make the rewards easier to get no matter how you play? Therefore, people who only like to play the trading post and not play to get achievements should be able to buy them.
It’s only fair.
That’s brilliant! Why didn’t I think of that? Sign me up!
Yep totally. Let us buy ESL cup 400k tournament champion achievement too! There’s nothing wrong with that…right…right?
You do know that there are a lot of achievements that are easier bought than earned right?
I wonder what would happen if all the solo queuers stopped playing. Would there be enough players left to sustain the format?
please understand the difference between PvE with PvP. life isn’t always easy in PvP. you don’t always get rewarded after X amount of time spent ‘grinding’.
I guess you didn’t look at their ss. It shows they have played enough pvp to make your comment miss the mark by a mile.
Recipes available via pact supply agents….there are huge spreads…shrink it. Also look into guild halls and whats needed at lvls 35+ As guild get there they will needs those mats and prices will increase.
Thing about this is that the players that have maxed mf most likely made a lot of profit from the mass salvaging they did to get their mf maxed. Most player did not do that and thus did not profit from it. Also they have benefited from having that mf high since then with better drops. So why should there be something for those who profited early to profit later as well?
So why aren’t the obvious ones on the leaderboards who are exploiting the team mmr issue being banned? I mean obvious exploits anywhere else get you banned why not there?
If you’re not part of the group harassing them about it…I apologize to you.
It’s not how they have been conducting his/herself. It’s how y’all feel he or she is conducting themselves. They have said multiple times they are not doing it to insult or offend anyone. In fact it’s the opposite. The self-absorbed comment I would assume is there as a reflection of that.
I don’t care if they think they’re not being insulting — I’m insulted by it. My words are MINE. They are not generic quoted text and there are reasons attribution is required in any serious academic discourse, not least of which is so the interested reader can verify them. I’ve long since stopped directly responding to that poster for EXACTLY that reason.
And I am highly insulted by y’all badgering them over it when it hasn’t been an issue for years. So if being insulted by something is justification for someone else to stop doing something….by all means please stop.
They weren’t the ones that brought it up! You and the others have pushed it. You then basically threatened them to change the way they are posting or else. That is pathetic.
And whats wrong with telling someone that you dont like his behaviour? You seem to do it as well.
If you dont tell them, they dont know that it bothers someone and wont change it.
I dont know if simply reporting him without giving him a chance to change it, is the best solution in order to keep this thread open and continue the discussion on topic and constructive.
I sure as heck don’t threaten to report you or anyone else for something that’s not against forum rules. They have been posting the same way for years. Why is it now all of a sudden a huge issue? The best way to keep the discussion on track is for y’all to stop derailing the thread.
“They” as in the singular pronoun…it’s a gender neutral term for someone, as in idk whether “they” are male or female. The same applies for “them”.
They weren’t the ones that brought it up! You and the others have pushed it. You then basically threatened them to change the way they are posting or else. That is pathetic.
That’s a new low. Trying to force someone to post how you like…….How would you like others to infringe the same upon you?

You do realize that your “two wrongs don’t make a right” applies to your calling him out posts?…..This is a rhetorical question btw.
I downloaded the patch via the 32bit client after the 64bit client failed to. The 64bit client also fails to run even though the patch has been downloaded via the 32bit client.

“Whale” is actually an industry term, not just a catch-all I invented to refer to the source of money. A Whale is part of the very small percentage of gamers in a free-to-play game who fork over enough money to keep the company afloat.
I’m well aware of what a whale is, I was just pointing out that there is no reason to believe that TP tycoons are any more “whales” than any other group, and in fact a decent amount of reason to believe that they are each less likely to be whales (since they participate less in the actual gameplay and thus would be less interested in paying gems to dress up their many characters), and there are far less of them, so your discussion about whales really has no bearing on the discussion at hand.
Yet your polemic is about wealth inequality in general, not just TP flippers in particular, and whales are a huge part of that. Whales buy gems both for Gem Store items and also to convert into gold, gold which comes primarily from rich players. It is to ANet’s real-world economic advantage to keep those whales spending money, which means it is to their advantage to allow for players to earn extremely large amounts of disposable in-game currency so that whales have customers for their gems. If you equalize wealth, this system would crash. You’d destroy both the supple of gold available for conversion as well as the demand for that gold (since it would be possible to get whatever you wanted without too much work anyway).
But when the thread starts moving fast and you start responding to multiple people who may be saying conflicting things in the same post, it gets messy and hard for people to follow or even realize that Ohoni is responding to the things that they said, especially when they aren’t the first person they respond to.
Why should you care whether I’m responding to you? Do you not care what your fellow posters have to say? You only want feedback on the things you’ve said? That’s pretty self-absorbed. It shouldn’t matter who I’m replying to, it should only matter what I’m replying to, regardless of who said it.
I find several things troubling about this response.
First and foremost, it’s a strawman argument. The issue we’re pointing out is that stripping comments of their posters muddles the conversation, regardless of which thread one is trying to follow, and your response is to call us “self-absorbed”? That’s just fallacious, and it’s particularly galling since you’ve been quick to point out strawmen arguments when used against you.
Secondly, you’re missing the point: we’re not trying to say that a given argument will be more or less true based on who says it, or that only our points matter. We’re simply saying that context matters, and that by stripping away user names, you’re making the context harder to follow. This thread is (inexplicably) over 200 responses long, and responding to it is far from the only activity anyone here will engage in over the course of the day. By making it much harder to follow conversation threads — mine or someone else’s — you’re making it much harder to engage in the ongoing discussion.
Thirdly, your tendency to assume malice as our motive makes me question whether you’re arguing in good faith at all. I can’t speak for everyone, but I generally try to stick to just a dialogue between myself and the OP in part because I trust others to come up with their own responses, but also as a courtesy to the OP so that they won’t have to make several responses to a single comment. There are exceptions, of course, but I generally try to avoid contributing to the unwieldiness of threads. Forum threads have a tendency to become fractalized over time and if you don’t take steps to keep the conversation lean, the participants can quickly become trapped in a maze of masturbatory cul de sacs that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. This conversation about quotation etiquette is borderline, but I think it’s the lesser evil to allowing the thread complexity to grow unchecked without objection.
TP traders do not create gold thus the system would not crash as they do not supply what the whales are buying.
How can you call someone out for a strawman when they are replying to a strawman? “Hey man don’t color that yellow, I know I gave you a yellow crayon to color it, but that’s besides the point”
The same can be said for the intent. Several posters assumed Ohoni’s intent was to be rude. They replied to that and now it’s Ohoni’s fault that they assumed incorrectly?
Things on here never cease to amaze me.
Seriously dude, it’s really obnoxious how you refuse to quote people by their names. I’m sure this has come up before, but I want to reiterate how difficult it is to keep track of conversation threads.
I personally find it more than obnoxious. I find it rude. It tells me that he doesn’t care enough about others to take the time to properly quote people. And then has the gall to post quotes of MULTIPLE PEOPLE in the same post.
It’s why I’ve told him in other threads that if he doesn’t quote me, properly, he will not get a response from me. As I don’t have conversations with rude people. Ohoni, this still holds for this thread. Don’t ask me a question if you aren’t going to quote me properly.
As to the topic of the thread. That article was for real life economies, not MMO economies. You can’t take the results of the study that article referenced and apply it to this game. Or any MMO. Because there are variables that would affect how satisfied and dissatisfied a person is that that study would not have covered: the fact that GW2 and other MMO’s are games. I’m not saying that the same results would happen if the same study was done in GW2 or any MMO, with appropriate questions to determine if it being a game affected anything, just that you can’t copy and paste results from one subset of people onto another subset of people.
Which means you can’t use the article to claim that ANet needs to do something about the reward structure.
It has been brought up before.
And the reason was……………….
Because they are responding to the points…not the people.
Seems to be hard to fathom that someone would actually debate the discussion points and not the people replying in the topic. Idk…….lol
Yep, our healthcare, college tuition, housing markets are all awesome b/c you know capitalism…..lol
Everyone knows that purely capitalistic system do not work. They start off fine but descend into tragedy.
Not going to read through all the replies. That said, one of the main reason players ask for beserkers is that one of the best ways to stay alive as a beserker…is to play with other beserkers. Once you have played content with maximized damage you’ll understand the difference between that and playing with a lot of variable build players. Another benefit of playing as a beserker is that it kind of throws you into the deep end of the pool. By that I mean it kinda forces you to learn to utilize dodges, blocks, blinds, blast finishers, etc…to stay alive, which believe it or not makes you a better player.
As for the AP deal…anything after about 2k is useless as a measure. By 2k a player has learned most ins and outs of the game. Ofc there are always exceptions…but it’s all we have.
Edit….as for the enrage timers….I agree those are bad…..who cares if a group wants to take hours to complete it…that should be their prerogative
I cant confirm this yet as my guild that has lost precipice doesn’t have plant nodes unlocked yet. My guilded hollow guild does and yes it has 3 plant nodes 1 ore and 1 lumber…so 5.
huh? wasn’t/isn’t liadri considered one of the best rewards in it’s implementation?
I guess you don’t remember the kitten-awful complaints about how it was too hard and should be nerfed so anyone could do it. I do.
I do and it was….not to mention most of the complaints were about artificial difficulty like the dome blocking the camera and targeting issues.
huh? wasn’t/isn’t liadri considered one of the best rewards in it’s implementation?
Remove DR invite bots to farm scribing mats and to scribe everything in mass so it can put some of the fun back into gh decorations.
tl;dr let bots fix scribing
Anyone know where the down vote button is?
Kinda rewarded you with no cap on your potential earnings like there is everywhere else. Wouldn’t that account for everything past what is possible elsewhere in the game?
example) everything else has a 20g/hour potential cap………so anything above 20g/hour made via trading is the reward
I’m not going to argue exactly how much time you did or did not spend on which, but at least you can do is leave out the the obvious falsity.18 mastery points from 3 fractals and hot story alone is simply not possible.
Somehow I doubt that every time you played all you did was play the tp the entire time. If it’s anything like mine, it’s maybe about an hour a day focus on trading…then the rest of the time is playing content or talking to ppl.
well it’s not like its really hurting, but i really want to be able to disable commercial
ABP ftw
You started off pretty well, but then descended into a rant. I’ll reply to your final statement.
Every playstyle is throttled except for playing the tp for the sake of the economy. So if players do not find that particular playstyle fun, their rewards will be throttled. In essence shutting them off at a point for the sake of what? Easier economy balance? Less need for gold sinks? A certain dev’s prerogative? There are many ways to transfer the excess that tp fees of unregulated trade to other sink or diminished faucets.
Imagine if you will if raids become competitive and they rewarded every top time with a 2k gems for each player. This would be unrestricted so if a team beat their own time that day they could garner another 2k gems each and so on. Then they throttle all other methods of playstyle to avg about the same 10g an hour even playing the trading post.
What would your thoughts be about that? Speed raiding doesn’t add gold into the economy but is leaps and bounds beyond above, in terms of reward, compared to the rest of the game.

If they really want people to watch, they just need to give away ascended gear boxes or unique skins.
They kinda already do.
