So i got bored tonight, and decided to run around a bit in the BL’s dressed as a robot. I found a random boxing match with an EB Charr from “All the Cute Charrs and Me”, I had some necro from vT (who was trashing like 3 guys at a time, nerf) transform into his Asura Racial Golem and punch the crap out of me, and, best of all, half of Elysium Knights turn in to quaggans and mourn my death after I tried to run through their zerg.

I kept completely demolishing a mesmer in that area from UN who uses moa in a 1v1 duel coupled with a burst. He tried 3 times and died every time. Poor guy.

We had 25 against what we were told by CD was 50, and CD sat in the camp behind carts and ballistas we had to keep killing.
If CD wants to know their weakness, it’s that they won’t move without a queue behind them during NA, while other servers are splitting into 20/30 mans. EK probably didn’t want a million pubbies nuthugging them at SW camp, but that’s definitely what happened.

17k is a number I’ve heard attached to 100nades, but I’ve yet rarely heard with BS (like once against someone without armour rare).
Say again? This backstab was done to my warrior with 1500 toughness. I had full health, no conditions like vunerability, or anything. I was just standing outside of my keep watching a few people in the distance. I died in just two hits (C&D and BS).

A few questions…
What if we get just mostly people from just one server signing up? Will we know what weapon set the opponent is using before a fight? If my different build requires retraiting at main base then is that allowed?
The thieves won’t target people with aegis for starters
A thief can backstab a guardian with aegis, strip the aegis without revealing the thief, then the thief can backstab again.
A thief can spam backstab on a warrior using shield stance and it will not reveal the thief and eventually will land the hit when the stance is over. This applies to every block in the game and it’s BS and needs to be changed. Blocking should reveal a thief.

lol @ FKVA guild from CD. their thief gets kitten on by me so they chase me halfway across the map with 3 people. bad guild, i’ll beat any of them in a 1v1 all day if any want to step up.

This would actually break the class. No more burst combos from stealth, I am honestly trying to figure out how many people actually play thief. You could say that is “counter-play” to stealth look at it realistically, and avoid try to avoid the damage.
Just as much as you guys are saying thief is spamming, you want this one thing to keep you safe, against damage that is 100% avoidable.

This won’t break the class. It will only break those who spam backstab and don’t watch for the warrior blocking, or the guardian being SMART and using aegis on his dying teammate to save him from a backstab. The other players in this scenario are “learning to play” but the game favors the broken thief and let’s him spam an attack to clear aegis which won’t even reveal him. It’s quite stupid.
How is a backstab 100% avoidable if you can’t see it coming or block it? Really? 100% avoidable?
P.S. I main a thief. I think it’s absurd that I can spam my backstab like this.

Sounds like thieves don’t give you too much of an issue because you’re a bunker guardian. It also means with your build you probably can’t kill anyone (let alone a good thief) unless you’re in a large group or if the player is really bad. Actually, with a bunker guardian you might win a 1v1 fight if it lasts 30 minutes and the enemy falls asleep.
I main a warrior, thief, and guardian. Playing my thief is such easy mode and I can see why people complain about them so much. For example…..I can have high toughness, low crit chance, but 112% crit damage with cavalier gear and my backstab has 100% chance to crit because of a trait. I can hit you with one every 4 seconds and deal 6-10k damage each time.
Cheese mode.
I honestly have no clue why this hasn’t been implemented yet.
Thieves scream “L2P!” when you can’t avoid their 8k backstabs. Why don’t they get revealed when I tactically block their attack? They are able to spam backstab with zero consequence until my shield stance runs out causing the backstab to land.
The same thing occurs with mace’s counterblow or offhand sword’s reposte. You time it perfect, block his backstab, he doesn’t get revealed, and then he instantly hits you again with the backstab.
If someone has aegis, the thief can strip it by backstabbing and not being revealed, then just backstabbing again. Why?
There is ZERO argument against implementing reveal on block. The only one I would be “I don’t want to think about what I’m doing as a thief. I just want to spam my number 1 until it lands.”

Except that the axe auto-attack chain is fast enough to effectively clear blinds faster than a thief can apply them assuming you’re not sitting in the center of the BPS field (even then its fast enough that every other attack will hit). If you count the field time, clear the blind and shield bakitten around 3 seconds, you’ll most likely interrupt the heartseeker leaving the thief out 9 initiative and setting up your attack.
Swinging your axe in the air won’t clear a blind anymore. If a thief is letting you relentlessly Axe 1 him then he’s doing it wrong.
When you see Black Powder go down, maybe you should try standing inside it so that they can’t HS without hitting you, which, amazingly enough, breaks their stealth and gives them Revealed.
Doesn’t work. The HS that hits you first when they start the combo does not cause reveal. So, they can put down number 5, HS, stealths, HS hits you, and they are still stealthed.
I’m not sure why this hasn’t been reported as a bug and fixed.
I main a warrior and thief and it’s PURE COMEDY how easy it is to fight people with my thief using P/D. You can win a fight just by doing the cheese mode combo and back stab. Just rinse and repeat. It’s so effective it’s absurd.
Also, while on this subject…..Blocking an attack from an invisible thief with my Aegis or Shield Stance SHOULD reveal a thief. This would promote more skillful game play by the thief. Not just spam back stab until a shield goes away. There’s no skill in that. Right now a thief can spam backstab on my warrior that is blocking until the shield goes away. There’s no arguing against this change and it needs to be implemented ASAP.
I haven’t used the hammer since they broke it. Please fix this.

He was definitely not lagging. This FTF guardian is 100% cheating. He would be on the bridge near Hills and Lake and he would teleport every 10 feet up to you super fast. (No, not using Sword Teleport or Judge’s Intervention). You would engage him and when he wants to run he would run away and there’s nothing you can do to catch him. Doesn’t matter if you’re a warrior with warhorn/shield/GS.

Or you could shield bash to eviscerate and using the +50% crit chance on stunned foes and get a guaranteed crit taking at least a 3/4 chunk out of their health.
You can’t do this against a D/P thief who is constantly spamming blind/heart seeker/backstab the entire fight. I do this every now and then on my thief and it hurts how cheesy and effective it is. Easy mode.
In the case of some blocks, like gaurdian, if they throw up an aegis we can only do one of two things then to get it down: attack through and get revealed, or wait and get revealed without the debuff.
Huh? Backstabbing an opponent with Aegis doesn’t reveal you. It removes the Aegis and keeps you stealthed and you can try again. How does this promote skillful gameplay on the thief’s part? It’s basically back stab spam.
Thieves can try to defend this spamming as much as they can but in the end it means they don’t want to use skill. They just want to spam their number 1 until it works.

Did you know that blocking an attack doesn’t put you in combat? Did you know that taking a condition doesn’t put you in combat if it isn’t accompanied by direct damage? Revealed runs off the system of direct damage contact, and if you don’t make direct damage contact, you don’t get revealed.
When you are blocked by a guardian who’s traited for it, you are set on fire. When you as a thief get blocked by anything, you should get revealed. Stealth traps apply the revealed condition so it shouldn’t be hard to program blocking to do the same.
I don’t think it’s tricky for the devs to program this.
Is there honestly any game engine/server setup that would be able to handle 200+ people standing in a large room all attacking each other while the server calculates who’s doing damage to who, what abilities are applying conditions/boons, what attacks bounce between targets and which ones they hit, which AOEs affect what, how much health all those players have, their positions, who’s dodging, blocking, healing, who has stability, etc. Then throw in 10 arrow carts dropping AOEs on all those players.
Just imagine all the info that needs to be processed.
I don’t think any current technology can handle that. Am I wrong? Has anyone seen a game and server setup that can handle that?

I think the main problem here is where is the balance between fair and overkill. At the moment it may not be fair for them not to be penalized, but it would be overkill to give them the revealed buff that often.
Then don’t attack a player when they are blocking.
There is no arguing against the implementation of reveal on block other than “I’m a thief and I like spamming back stab and don’t want to think. I just want to spam.”
Well, we can’t let this thread die or be forgotten or this will never be changed.
Right now the only way to deal with a backstab is to accept it. Accept the fact that you’ll be hit with very high damage from an invisible target that can do it every 4 seconds or so.
If I’m not mistaken, using sword reposte, or mace counter-blow will yield the same result. The thief will hit you, it will block, not reveal him but your counterblow/reposte will go off, and he will be able to hit you again with a backstab and it will land.
I have a lvl 80 thief and fighting warriors is a complete joke. I feel so bad fighting them since my warrior is my main.
I’m a bit tired of thieves using the “learn to play” argument when you complain about their undetectable 8k damage back stabs. They tell us “well, you should block it or dodge roll when you expect to get hit!” only to actually block it but get hit anyways because they can just spam number 1 on your shield until it goes down.
Blocking an attack from an invisible thief, mesmer, or any other class needs to reveal the attacker. I’m not sure why this isn’t like this to begin with.

I’ve been using a similar condition build as yours (with a tweak to the traits) for a few weeks now and have been loving it. I swap though between that and zerker and I’m not sure which I like better. It seems like each build has it’s strengths versus certain classes.

Yep. The animal forms are completely useless. The only thing snow leopard is good for is an escape because of the super huge charge distance and stealth it gives you. Other than that, if you use it in a fight in WvW you will die.
So, the other day a thief hit my “balanced” warrior build (1500 toughness, ) for 17,000 damage with a backstab. Basically, I was two shotted. Screenshot provided. The black powder right after was the thief getting ready to cloak again to hit again for that same damage I imagine.
Playing a thief is easy mode. If you don’t have one then make one and get decent with it and watch how funny it is to walk into an outnumbered skirmish and win. Things not going your way? Just stealth and reset the fight and just keep relentlessly chipping away. Anyone here that says “if the thief is stealth the whole time he’s not doing damage” has no clue what he’s talking about. I will beat you just from annoying the hell out of you relentlessly until you mess up. I can’t make a mistake because of all my get aways and “oh crap buttons.”
It got old so I’m mostly using my warrior which is fun since I have the feeling of danger and there’s a risk when I jump into a fight.
Also. If a thief is permanently stealthed how do you know he is even there? Did the bushes rustle funny, Did you hear a snickering with nobody in sight?

Thats a heavy amount of damage for a supposed balanced build, assuming your are correct with your build, how much might did he have (a warrior can hit for double that with HB and equal that with killshot) how much vuln did you have? do you use frenzy perchance? what food buffs did he have did you have?
You post an edited screenshot clip, with literally no other information and expect something from it? I can link you videos on youtube of warriors doing 32k to 5 people at 1500 range with killshot, should they come whine about how op warrior is?
My warrior has 1500 toughness, I had full health (nowhere near the sub 1000 toughness that glass warriors have). I had no vulnerability but I didn’t catch if he had 25 stacks of might. It’s quite possible he did since his group of guildies was near by and it’s possible that they stacked him up.
You can’t compare a kill shot to a back stab, sorry. You can see kill shot coming and it’s the easiest thing to dodge and even reflect with my shield (comedy). The thief that hit me walked right up to me completely invisible. This isn’t a “l2p” issue. No one would have saw 20k in damage coming instantly.

Alright, so I’m getting real tired of these charges just not registering on people who were obviously hit by it. If someone is running away from me there’s pretty much a 90% chance that bulls charge will have no effect on the target. It’s not that they are out of range either, I can bulls charge/rush someone from 6 feet away running from me and it’ll stop me, do the hit, and the target is actually still running without being affected.
I’m really no expert on the way the game handles networking but my theory is that the game is seeing the hit happen but due to latency, the target doesn’t get hit by the attack due to them actually being further ahead than what’s on your screen. You can see an exaggeration of this when a player is obviously lagging out and you’re using attacks on him (even bulls charge) and attacks are tracking him but it’s just saying “miss,” then all of a sudden he teleports 50 feet ahead of you.
What I’m seeing is similar to the way in some FPS games where you see your target being hit by your bullets but they don’t take damage because they aren’t actually where they are.
Proposed fix:
Increase the “AOE” effect of bulls charge by just a little. Right now it seems like for it to hit the player needs to be inside of you practically. This will help compensate for latency if the target is “actually 1 extra foot ahead of you.”
Someone feel free to jump in and correct everything I said of course. :p
I’ve been seeing this happen more and more. I think Anet needs to increase the “AOE” of the bulls charge when it hits. Right now it will miss 90% of the time if the target is running away from me. I think what happens is that the game sees it hits and stops the attack, but because of pings to the server, the player is actually further ahead by a few feet and the hit doesn’t register. If they increase the “AOE” of the hit then it might compensate a bit for this and cause it to hit. Sometimes when it does hit, the player appears knocked down a few feet ahead and hundred blades won’t hit (not really a combo I use it’s just I’ve tried it before).
This happens with shield bash, bulls charge, and rush.
It also targets your previous target even though you don’t have it targeted anymore.
Say you are disengaging and running away from a zerg, you just run right back at them.
Make sure you don’t have auto target turned on in options.

Anyone who says “just immobilize” or “use line of warding” to stop them doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
I submitted a bug entry on the forum for this. I hate that you can’t move for half a second after the cast is finished. So annoying.
Submit the bug in the ingame form as well so we can get this fixed asap.
Hammer skills received some aftercast reductions in time but a strange thing happend to “Staggering Blow” which is the hammer spin knock down. After you cast it and it finishes, you can’t move for half a second and you’re stuck in place.
I’m sure this is an overlooked bug and hopefully it gets fixed asap because it makes using the skill annoying as hell.
GW2 is my first MMO. Before this I was playing BF3, BF2, BF1942, and HL mods, . All FPS games.
Whenever one of my buddies mention another interesting MMO, I search up a video on youtube to see what it’s like. All MMOs seem to have terribly boring combat mechanics, lame clunky animations, or are super extremely grindy. Either that or they’re ruined because they have subscription fees or are “pay to win.”
I would not play any other MMO out there at the moment.

I’ve been playing the game since release and the other day, for the first time, I decided to try dumping yellow GS’s into the forge. I threw in 12 yellows and got Dusk.

In any case, I offered a 1v1 because you made a comment about us not wanting to fight without a zerg. So, if you want a friendly duel I’d be more than happy to oblige. Worst case I have a 1s repair, best case I don’t. Either way, this is getting absurd, I should’ve shown restraint from the beginning.
The only thing that made me go out of my way to post a screenshot were the emotes to be honest. I would be more than happy to have a duel. Maybe we can even become buddies.

Funny, I saw your little group myself. You were eager to fight the 3 of us up there while you had 6 down there. Rather than letting anyone close enough to actually make it an even fight, you and your fellows would just bum rush them.
