If ten bucks can’t be blown for a bit of fun I don’t know how to respond.
What about Movies, Restaurants, Bars, Golf, Cable TV… they are all unnecessary to life, but how boring life would be without spending a bit of cash on fun nonsense.
I think to most folks ten dollars is not a whole lot of money especially in a day and age where one can blow five bucks plus on a coffee.
Are all these complaints about being cheap, poor, or just sour on life. Geeze!
I bought four so far. Great fun! Looks cool. I’ll never have to worry about running out of picks again! I may even buy more so all my characters have one.
Like others have said I too hope the other harvesting tools get the same treatment and soon.

New armor. Used armor once it gets sweaty and dirty can get repulsively smelly.
In game I prefer armors that look somewhat realistic in function. Massive spikes and levitating shoulder armor is not my thing.
I would like to see some stylistic spread between armor classes, i.e. light armors that look like lighter versions of leather garb, medium armors with perhaps a cuirass, etc.
The convenience of never having to check how many picks I have on-hand and of what type is well worth it in my book. I bought 3.
ROI lol. So I payed $30 – less than a lunch in a decent restaurant, a pleasurable but short experience (45 minutes to an hour at most).
Somehow spending a few bucks on a leisure hobby interest is not what defines an “Investment” in my book. If and when we start talking in tens of thousands of dollars then you might be in the ballpark.
Any monies spent on games unless one is producing them as a lively-hood is not an investment, it’s a leisure expenditure.
This player does not want duels.
I hated being spammed by duel requests in other games. I hated folks dueling in crowded areas making them more congested. I disliked the attitudes of those wanting/demanding duels in open chat.
No thanks to all of that.

I’ve never had a hobby as inexpensive as my computer gaming, and I spend on gems all the time.
Compare this to most leisure pursuits and it’s cheap. Heck, I bet most adults who drink spend more in one night at a bar than I spend on this game in a month.
I tend to run into a lot of older players myself. (45+ is my definition)
I think it must have to do with continually falling off jump puzzles that clusters us together for a conversation to start, usually with a bit of good hearted self-depreciating humor.
Just retiring this month! 26 years in the Army ugh, all over now. But I’m still a just a punk kid, I’m only 50 so Social Security will be a few years off.

I used to enjoy shooting sports but now play computer games instead. I spend considerably less with my computer games but by the looks of this thread lots more than most.
(FYI I’m an geriatric retired gamer with the mortgage paid off, so I do have a lot of disposable income and free time these days)

I had an issue purchasing Gems a while back, customer service through “ask a question” had it all resolved for me in minutes. Give them a try, they are fast and quite polite when dealing with resolving issues concerning you spending money on their products.
It is just expensive is all. I play a lot, never go out to farm as a purpose, and have many characters with some or all tier 3 cultural armor skins applied. I didn’t rush to it, I just bought the armor and transmuted to crafted armors as I played.
If you are just patient it will come along in due course.
I tend not to min/max crafting and supply costs – I just play and collect as I go and crafting armors has never been problematic for me. That I might have made a wee bit more playing the TP doesn’t bother me at all. Making the armor and collecting the mats as I do events/dailies/etc is the fun, for me anyways.
or D.) Craft your own armor with the stats you want and use the level 80 transmute stones you get as rewards in the story line to transmute. Cost – time spent having fun playing the game.
Maybe the biggest denial of service attacks ever that is going on now is responsible???
It’s in the news this evening. PBS Newshour reported that it is having effects on bandwidth across the planet. It’ll be an interesting story to follow in the news.

Probably “Soiled Rags” or something similar (lowest tier salvage drop).
When the game starts feeling stale for me I roll an Alt.
Trying a fresh class and traveling a diferent path can really refresh the game.
When you are ready to go back to your original character he/she will still be there for you.
The Halloween Scythe skin has the same issue.
I hope that both these nice looking skins can get a fix.

I have made great gains selling tier 1 and tier 2 mats that are easy to farm in volume. I’m just patient. Sometimes they’ll accumulate at my set sell price for a few weeks, but they do always sell, and when they do sometimes it’s in the thousands of that item. Trick is to not price them too high.
Patience pays in selling anything. (and I’m talking about getting double or tripple the return of if I’d sold fast)

Try not selling stuff on the TP at the prices shown when you go to the sell tab. Use the “buy more” right click to see how others are pricing that item. If you set reasonable prices, but not the lowest price your earnings can be increased appreciably.

I enjoy leveling characters. The trip is fun, the final destination not so much. I can’t wait for the introduction of additional skills and traits to broaden my 80s even further.
I’m not a huge fan of vertical progression but am a huge fan of horizontal progression. Please Anet do start adding additional traits, skills, and weapon types.
Had I known from the start how this game was to function I’d have two or possibly three accounts. This account based laurel system really hurts folks like me with all their characters on one account.

When I look at my Monthly Achievements in my hero tab (H) it shows 3/4 done for the “Daily Category Complete”.
On my UI when Monthly Achievements is expanded and “Monthly Completionist” is hovered over it shows 3/5 complete for the Monthly Achievement.
What is the Monthly 4 or 5?
The discrepancy in the display is confusing and one is obviously wrong.
Same is occuring on Northern Shiverpeaks server in Wayfarer Foothills. It’s impossible to progress anything with the constant rollbacks.
I get from 3-6 a day, as drops and from harvesting foods. But I do play too much.
I haven’t kept close track, but I think my high level chars get the most while in low level maps.
Haven’t got any of this stuff out of boxes. Has anyone else?
One pile of 25 from a gift box in the open world.
I got 25 stuffing from a gift box acquired in the open world. Only one though out of hundreds of boxes opened.
For God’s sake, it’s not THAT hard of an achievement. My group did it without saying a word to each other until it was done. And that say, basically, “Good job.”
Once you’ve identified that you’ve randomly grouped with idiots . . . leave that group and try for another one.
Please don’t reward stupid.
It is an impossible achievement if the game keeps sending you in as a replacement to instances with less than 5 dolyaks alive as has been my misfortune today.
Why do I keep getting sent in as a replacement to games with less than 5 dolyaks left!

I wouldn’t mind being challenged for my achievement, but constantly being sent to an already failed instance is rediculous!
It is kind of hard to keep 5 dolyaks alive if the game sends you in as a replacement to a game with a dead dolyak or two already!
To the folks that bail after one gets downed, you not only hurt the team you were on but other gamers trying to have a clean start as well that get sent in to replace you!
The mini-map red circle Flashie goes off when it spawns, it was kind of obvious to me that something was going on at that location when I first played.

Of my 5 experiences only in one did I start with a fresh new game, the other 4 times I was sent in as a replacement. This is frustrating. Frustration is not fun.
240 slots…
Yeah, uh, has anyone actually filled all 240. Ever? I honestly can’t see why ANYONE would need 240 slots. That’s more than enough room to fit an entire charr warba….. okay, I can see one use from a lore perspective.
It is very easy to fill up, especially so if one is a cook as many of our intermediate stage food stuffs won’t go in the ingredients tab.
Just having a few bank slots open at max bank capacity is a challenge for me. (I do have have 22 chars on one acct, so thats a lot more need than an acct with base stock chars.)
I wish we could buy more.

I just wait for a few other players to come along. Its quite easy with 2 or 3 players. Others are out there huntuing the boxes too and the boxes are marked on the maps as well so it is usually a very short wait.
I’ve opened quite a few but didn’t count them, most likely in the hundreds.
So far besides the ugly cloths currency I’ve gotten one wooden dagger skin, one slingshot skin, assorted snowflakes, three consumable bells, one 25 count pile of stuffing, and 2 rune recipes.
I did notice that different maps tended to reward different types of ugly clothing currency although all maps gave some of each type.
Fish for all ala Monty Python.
Dueling with fish would be so much fun!
Excess skill points are a form of currency in game. Check the Mystic Forge Vendor.
Being a few levels underlevel for your area is good too, but not too much or a powerleveling blocking diminishment of xp kicks in.
I think it’s the uncertainty about what direction the game is headed. People are waiting to know more.
Exactly so in my case. I need info from Anet as to what this game is and where it is headed before I invest any more time and money into it. Depending on what they say I may stay or go.
Right now I’m in the dark. I hope this AMA tomorrow provides the info I need to make my decision. In any case if they stay clammed up and unresponsive I’ll assume the worst and ask for a refund.
Of course they were not good. They diminished everything they contacted and effected. If prices have gone up it means your income will as well to allow you to buy items at a price based upon a fair playing field not one manipulated by cheats.
I hope Anet looks in their database to establish if there is a correlation with liking/disliking the controversial changes to cash spent. I’d like to know not if what they have done is popular amongst a majority/minority of players, but how it all breaks down on a dollars per account basis.
That would be interesting data to look over. I wonder if dollars per account is evenly distributed or not, and if not on which side of these issues it is weighted.
Why not throughout the game for everyone? Why dungeons only? Not everyone like dungeons.
