I’m retired.
I’m retired as well.
I think the most gamers these days don’t quite realize that gaming as a hobby has been around for quite a while now and many of their fellow gamers are now done with their work-a-day lives and have plenty of time and money to lavish on their hobbies.
I think it’s awesome that I come across so many retired folks in my daily gaming.
Support was fantastically supportive in assisting with getting this issue resolved!
Thank you so much Anet Support team!
It resets at game reset time – 1700 hrs PST. Depending on where you live in the world you could easily do two days worth in one short gaming session if 1700 hrs PST resets while you are playing.
edit: to add PST is GMT – 8, PDT is GMT -7.

Me the player 50 years Zero deaths
@Muninn – They recently revamped how MF works and eradicated almost all the MF gear from the game. Only thing I can think of that is left is the utility+20% MF infusion.
tl;dr — We’re not even paying subscription fees! Why are people complaining about content in a (after you pay a flat price) free game?
Some people’s kids..
I’ve spent about 150€ on the game box and gem store so far.
So can I complain now?
You have my premission!
Actually I do believe that Anet has these very forums to hear our concerns and issues with the game. I think we do a disservice to the Devs and the game by not stating what we like and dislike here. Just my two cents.
I just elevate the tier1 planks to tier 2 in the MF.
My advice would be to use your available character slots to try each class out for a day of play. There is no other way to determine what you may find fun and rewarding. All the classes are playable, but some fit certain players playstyles more than others.
Try checking out the Professions sub forums as well so you can see what issues have cropped up in players eyes with the various classes.
Welcome to the game! I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun.
Just a FYI for those who haven’t made and played a few days on their ascended yet, I find the upgrade in power to be easily noticable from my time playing with exotic weapons.
I have submited a ticket asking for my recipe to be reset.
I think it is working as expected – so no bug report.
I think a Dev might want feedback on how this system works from the player end – that’s why I made this report here in the forums exposing my mistake for all to see and ridicule.
I see this lack of warning as no diferent than the “wiping all buffs mesage” after the fact warning that was quickly remedied in SAB.
I just think this needs to be on the Devs radar as I’m not certain how their support staff and Dev staff communicate
I made one already thanks, but that is not the point – please reread my OP.
5 laurels and 3 gold is not chump change in this game even with a player with a healthy wallet.
My point in case you like me are suffering late night woes is that the warning on already having weapons unlocked like on all other recipes does not appear in the first layer of the ascended recipes – the warning only appears after the selection is made, a selection we can not recover from. Hardly logical.
(edited by Ferguson.2157)
My favorite thing to do in game before the “farming Mania” took hold of me for my ascended weapons was to amble about a new map doing the DEs I came across. I’ve found many many that I’d missed before on my way to 80 a year ago. In many ways the emptyness of many maps now offers up a whole new range of DEs as the players haven’t kept the foes in check.
Try it some time – just walk across your least played map and see what pops up.
The world is a lot bigger and more interesting if one self-imposes an waypoint restriction and simply walks everywhere.
(edited by Ferguson.2157)
If one has a hickup in selecting their recipe from the scroll down on the generic ascended recipe while also looking at a horendus crafting known recipe dropdown late at night while suffering from insomnia one is screwed.
The recipe costs 5 laurels and 3 gold. It has zero vendor value. It is account bound.
Anet, can we get a more forgiving system with regards to this – maybe a sell back or trade back / trade for a fresh selectionable recipe at vendor? Maybe a red popup like in the actual recipe from the vendor stating you already know this recipe? You do have that functionality, but only after the selection is made with no way of recovering.(You added that self check ages ago for a reason I’m sure – why isn’t it functional in the current system?)
This arcane user unfriendly selection system I’m sure will trap more folks than just lil’ old me in wasting valuable currencies on a useless item.
Please allow us a mulligan for simple screw-ups. Who would it hurt?

To me it seems obvious that they were indeed intended to be transmuted over. The Soros’s Shortbow I made seemed to look hardly better than the starter bows in game.
I know it is all subjective and all, but the bows look like their appearance was only considered at the last minute.
That was my intent all along as I had already found the perfect skins for my main character.
All is ok with me though – I transmuted over (losing my sigil in the process, that part of transmuting is broken on these weapons) and all is well now.
I have a few Charr and Norn characters, but I play them infequently.
Why? Their size makes running seem slower (I know it’s an illusion), since 50% of my time in game is spent running about it becomes painfull. I mostly play on my asurans, followed by small humans and sylvari.
Well my solution was to just buy a new sigil – no big thing.
I just want them to know how this is working so they can either fix to work like other transmutations or remove the bottom box for transmutation (the sigils one).
I transmuted the exotic shortbow I have been using onto the ascended Soros’s Shortbow. The skin took just fine but my sigil was lost in the process even though selected when transmuting.
I’ve never had this occure when transmuting so I hope it’s just a bug, not a feature of ascended weapons.
Soros’s Shortbow
Finally done after too many nights of farming instead of sleeping.
Now I just need 6 more laurels for the infusions and I’ll be done with one weapon!

This thread makes me think of my recent revisit to Gw1 where your feet were glued to the ground. How the pendulum has swung! Hopefully it will find a nice equilibrium.
I’m thankfull to be able to jump at all, but I agree the camera thing can be a pain.
Stupidly I tend to jump about every third step when just running across flat terrain just because I can.
In my opinion the best looking weapon in the game is Bonetti’s Rapier. No particle effects, scale seems about right, looks elegant sheathed or carried.
Taste is all subjective.
The good news is that they are adding more and more skins each month it seems. Hopefully you will find some to your liking in the near future.
same symptoms on my end
What if they made small instanced rooms on each map, wherein the folks there could select a leader. That leader gets their combined total attack and defense stats. leader then goes and does farm train alone but all in room share drops, exp, karma, etc. Leaders stats change dynamically as farmers enter and leave the room.
Farmers get their loot, most farmers get to watch TV or read the paper unmolested, One farmer gets to be the Hero/Goat, and folks actually doing events etc are not bothered or locked out of map.
I am a lvl 30 warrior. What min/pet do you recommend, and where should I go to get one. I like the idea of a Fire Elemental, yet the area is a lvl 60-70 zone… as I am only lvl 30, im sure you can understand that it would be quick impossible for me to get this Fire Elemental.
Am I correct in saying that a mini does not attack? I am looking for a companion that will help me fight.
Not at 30 I’m afraid, but when you hit 39 get 4 Major Rune of the Ogre runes in your armor and you’ll almost always have a compainion hyena by your side when fighting.
It will fight with you, but can draw agro after a fight when you least want more enemies on you.
Thank you very much OP, but unless you have moderator power here I’ll post anything I so desire with regards to this game.
I’ll criticize and/or praise what I wish to. Whether you agree or disagree with my opinions, think the subject matters, or just plain out don’t wish to see anything you disagree with does not in any way shape or form matter to me.
Please realize that getting on your high horse and using imperative statements does not impress me.
There are also some single use items that summon a fighting companion for sale from reknown hearts vendors.
Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!
I think any name used ingame on an NPC is also considered “taken”. A posibility anyway.
I need a hunchback simulating back-piece for my short plump Norn character named Quasimodo.
Thanks guys for explaining that to me. I was dumbfounded as to what he meant given no obvious context.
Now that I do understand there are some rare ones about in game, but he is right in that we need breater masks to be fully fleshed out tier wise.
No need to speculate. I have it from a reliable source that the new race will only be a tweaking of an already extant race, playable Asuran Progeny.
I had thought it was about playing the game safely in your home without clothes on.
It’s always good to have a goal, that allows you to determine a course of action and implement it.
I enjoy self-made goals in this game the most. Good luck on your endeavors!
Pakled Commander Reginod: We are strong.
Lieutenant Geordi La Forge: You’re armed to the teeth.
Pakled Captain Grebnedlog: Teeth are for chewing.
Commander William T. Riker: What brings you so far from home?

Commander William T. Riker: What were you looking for?
Pakled Captain Grebnedlog: Things we need.
Commander William T. Riker: Can you be more specific?
Pakled Captain Grebnedlog: Things that make us go. We need help.
Commander William T. Riker: What is the nature of your mission?

Just wait till you destroy your new repacement mouse doing the 100,000 drinks achievement!
I was a bit shocked by this update at first as well. It took a bit of time for me to grasp what all was needed to acquire a new weapon. I spent too much gold. I didn’t fully grasp what I was doing or going. I spent a few days mindlessly zerging Frostgorge Champs to see how fast progress was and see if anyone got drops of the new weapons.
Now I’m a bit burned out. I’ll take a day off from the game and when I return I’ll be better as I’ve just realized I don’t like what I had been doing or feeling post patch. I’ll return to doing what I normally do for fun and if and when I get my ascended weapons I’ll get them. No more rushing for me it was not FUN! (and not productive with the assets I had at hand)
I don’t think your being childish, just honest. Do what you like and liked to do in game and have FUN.
Don’t let it overwhelm you, I’m certain the game will be tweaked many times before it settles back down to stability. These are times when hunters hunt and money is made and lost in buckets. It’s easy not to be their prey just by being a bit patient. Let the Hunters feed on themselves. If you need resources, collect them yourself while doing what you like. There is no big prize for getting an ascended weapon earlier than everyone else.
I also am not and didn’t expect to like the new looks of weapons. Most of my characters have a look I love already that I plan to keep via transmutation.
TLDR – Do what you find fun and entertaining in game and avoid discomfort at all times. It’ll all settle down after a bit.
edit- lol “kitten” word synonymous with “a short period of time” – edit2 – lol again – now “bit” not changed to “kitten”
Cheers!

Like Enko I am getting upgrades back at what seems like the same level as the basic kits. I haven’t kept records though.
I do the Frostgorge Champ train for one hour before needing a break (2×30 min food buffs) and each time after salvaging all drops and box contents I usually have 8-12 of the upgrades. Keep in mind the Fines don’t have an upgrade in them to salvage, just the Masterworks. The RNG can go through its highs and lows in output, I think your just on the downside now.
@Fate Omega – I save them up and toss them in the Mystic Forge for upgrades in quality. I have quite a nice collection of superiors now (hundreds of them) all due to my frugality with them. It’s worth it to do this if you have the bank storage capacity to do so.
My Acct has used the finisher many times and has had mail stacked up many times but my mail hint and finisher hints have never registered that.
You are not the only ones.
New levels are only for weapon making crafting, i.e. Weaponsmith, Huntsman, and Artiface.
Miscommunication my “kitten” – Deceipt or incompetance is what it is, maybe both. Fix this!
Ferguson there’s one thing you’re NOT short on, and that’s time. Anyone who has that kind of lifestyle (altoholic) would have even taken to calling their PC certain terms of endearment.
I’m retired and disabled – I do have too much time on my hands now – and thats a great thing!
(the retired part not the disability)
Players with more than 8 maxed character are very niche, players with 43 maxed characters… Erm I bet I can count them with my fingers.
I only have 18 at max level now all with exotic gears, the other are still leveling. I’m not looking for other to emulate me, nor am I trying to have anyone accept my way of playing, but I do want to express how punative time gating is.
I do know many others who play like I do, and given my history with this firm in GW I simply bought my slots up-front, in hopes there would be some sort of continuity in their way of game design when this game rolled out.
I’m usually surprised that some take such interest in my total character count. Gameing is a very inexpensive hobby, those slots mean little to me based upon their purchase price, however the time I’ve invested in them and the characters themselves do mean quite a bit to me.
43 characters??! God, I really hope you’re joking…
Maybe that is why they are after me!
(no I/‘m not joking – bought all those char slots before the started all this gating stuff with laurels. Some of us crazy players have this thing for alts. I have one of each class in each race and a couple duplicates. That’s how I have played and will try to continue to play MMOs. If that is not to your taste fine – I’m in no way suggesting anyone do this, but some of us do none the less.
I wish now I’d bought four accounts each with only 10 chars. The fact that 40 characters on one account is really screwed but four accounts with 10 each isn’t so badly affected is why this whole thing is poorly thought out.
I did inquire with support if I could buy three more accounts and equally distribute my characters over them and they said it was imposible.
My advice to anyone thinking of buying an additional char slot is to most definately not to buy one.
edit – in CoX I had 60 maxed out characters, in GW I have 28, in CO I have 57 all at top level, in STO I have 48 characters, in SWTOR I had 24 (before I deleted the game), in PotBS I had one captain of each type for each nation,…
Alt playing players are not a niche player type that this game wants to cater to at all now, it was promising at first until last Nov.
(edited by Moderator)
The whole time-gate thing I’m certain was made just to destroy me and my playstyle. I don’t know how I upset Anet but they have gone out of their way to make me and my 43 characters miserable.
edit – to change two inocent words which when typed alongside each other results in “kitten”
I have seen an increase in my reporting of about 500% this last month. I don’t know if they are new players unaware of the rules , or if they are existing players just saying “to heck with the rules”.
I just report and ignore and continue on playing.
It’s a question looking for a very subjective answer.
I have my most fun in game playing my rangers…
,however what I find fun and what you do may be totaly different. My best answer to you is to find your own answer by playing one. If you start disliking it delete it, if not keep playing it. It’s that simple.
They need to add a low Ach point one with titles for alt slots unlocked. At 20 title is “Dumb”, at 30 is “Dumber”, at 40 is “Dumbest”.
It fits those of us who got suckered into think Anet would support those who like having alts.
Its to cater to the people that need gear to grind to “entice” them to play. That’s it. That’s all it’s for. To keep a specific type of person playing. The complete opposite of how they marketed the game. Don’t question it.
I’d go on to say it’s a betrayal by ANet but the current ANet is not the same company that made GW, dreamed of GW2, and sold GW2. The current ANet has already killed, gutted, and replaced the old one so technically they haven’t betrayed anyone.
November was a betrayal. Sept will be a further betrayal. That they lied is certain to me. If all goes a badly as I think it will next week I’ll have to start scouting out a new game. So sad.
I sure hope this game doesn’t go the way SWTOR went for me. I’m in a highly pessimistic mode with all this time gating and new tier kerfluffel.
I hope they have their stuff together on this, otherwise I’m out. So sad. This game had so much potential, it still may. I’ll know for sure next week.
(15 level 80s to gear, and more alts still leveling…)
This game has music?!
My ears are so shot that I’ve never noticed one way or the other lol.
