“This item can be used in the Mystic Forge since the September 2014 Feature Pack.”
“This mini can be mystic forged which yields 3, 5, or 15 obsidian shards.”
- from the wiki

1 x Obsidian Shard
1 x Mystic Coin
1 x Pile of Putrid Essence
1 x Mini Risen Priest of Balthazar

= Obsidian Shard (x3)

Interesting take Devata. I think we all project a bit when we read. I mostly gave weight to his comments about guilds and friends. I would think a good friends list and a guild to be proud of are something to show for 3 years of effort.

I can see how you have read it, and understand your take on it. That’s all fine. I just hope someones/anyones suggestions here in this thread may provide the OP the helping hand he is looking for to get back the feeling of accomplishment/fun/friendship from this hobby.

The only problem with setting goals in GW2, the activity to get the reward usually means grinding (mainly gold), So if that is not your thing then ‘setting goals for yourself’ isn’t really an option.

Compare that to some other MMO’s, when you see a nice mini and set your goal to get it, you might end up doing a dungeon and then you see a skin what sends you all over the world in following / completing some quest-chain, the next item you are after might require you to do a mini-dungeon in some area you have never visited before, then the next item requires you to fight a boss to get a recipe, then farm some mats and make it.

That experience of hunting down items (where the items become your goal) is very different in GW2, and when OP says “Ï have nothing to show for it” I think his ‘goals’ are along this line but then the question becomes if grinding is what he wants to do.

I didn’t intend the goals to be items except for the one thing he expressed in his post, a legendary. To me goals are usually not reward driven but fun activity driven, no need to grind unless that is your thing.

He has many non-reward centered things he can do to get APs.

Maybe I should have posted some examples, like – completing a new jump puzzle, joining a guild and doing guild missions, doing the Hirathi hinterlands event chain from beginning to end, doing all temple runs in Orr in one day, doing every daily – PvE/PvP/WvW every tuesday, complete one incomplete map a day until 100%, leveling and alt, etc.

I used to farm and it almost ruined the game for me. Now I just harvest nodes as I play and sell the mats, mostly mid tiers and make about 150-300 gold a week without even trying. Gold is easy to get if not rushing for it.

My personal goal is always to have fun. Best fun I have in game is helping my guildies with Jump Puzzles and open world events together. I’m not great at JPs, but I know them and we have a blast doing them and laughing together.

I think desiring skins/weapons/gear is fine – until the drive to get them outweighs the fun of playing. I’m not an item hound, yet I have most everything I could want as it comes along with just playing the game.

If one sets one’s goal as having fun, by doing things that challenge you or that you haven’t done yet you’ll be a lot healthier than if ones goals are solely gear based.

And to be less obtuse and more direct I’d advise the OP to join one new guild every few days until he finds one he is happy with. Playing with others always seems to be more fun than the base activity to me with amiable company along.

You’ll most likely never get anywhere until you set some goals. Pick something, anything and work towards it. That should provide some measure of progression for you.

If AP is a metric you like to use, start there for your goals. use the achievement tab in your hero window to guide you.

If your social circle is waning – reach out, try a new guild or two to find new friends.

I too don’t have a legendary, hopefully with HOT I can start working on earning one as opposed to playing the RNG game. Since you have HOT, that may be a goal for you as well.

I myself had to take a long break from the game due to work. When I returned to the normal world my interest in GW2 was reinvigorated. Nothing wrong with taking a break and coming back as Miss Lana advised.

I’d recommend not using gold as a metric for progress, if you are anything like me you’ll find it comes and goes. I am a sucker for buying new shinies. Gold comes naturally from playing, moreso if you farm (but that can burn one out fast).

If you have fun playing try to think of that alone as the primary value of the game, not abstract markers or pixilated trophies.

I wish you the best and I hope you can find what you are looking for.

As an old fart who spent his life in the army I’d say put the game on hold for two weeks, study like a madman and get good grades, resume playtime only when it won’t negatively affect your real life. Two weeks without a game never killed anyone.

Just 2 cents from a graduate of the school of hard knocks.

Totally subjective answer follows,

Go Engineer, I have a blast with mine and rarely if ever play my warriors. (all at 80 and geared)

Other opinions may differ. Your best bet is to make one of each and play them a bit for feel and then decide which to pursue if not both! Whatever the outcome I hope you have fun on your new character!

What is going on? Why is GW2 so boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ferguson.2157

Ferguson.2157

Boring? Not for me. Oh – just level 9 and making judgments lol.

It’s not hard, but surely not boring. You’ve seen almost nothing at level 9. To be fair you should play at least to level 71 to play fully traited, better yet to 80.

I think though even perhaps overly easy for a keen player you will be missing a true perspective on the game until you level up one character fully. I hope you do that and I hope you have fun along the way too.

If you want added difficulty while leveling and faster leveling play in areas 5-9 levels above your current level. It may not be as challenging as you desire, but anti speed leveling comes in at 10 levels over current level.

If you can do try to explore the social aspects of the game as well. Grouping up and Guilds can make things fun. I love helping friends do things I find easy that they find hard and getting help from them with things I’m week in.

As to your last query it will be in level 80 zones where it may get challenging for you. If you stick with the game and try HOT Anet promises harder content.

Hope you find some fun in game.

If, and I do mean ‘IF’, they are going to do this maybe, just maybe they have crunched numbers and used models to show an increase in revenues, which would mean they get to continue eating and that the game has more cash flowing into creative growth of the game.

I don’t think they’d be looking at this as an initiative to make your life unpleasant.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ferguson.2157

I do, usually by means of a sigil of speed on a weapon unless I can trait a speed boost. It’s cheap and works for getting around maps fast.

You can also change all your old combat boosts to new thew type or acquire the new type and use for 1 hour speed boosts if doing a ton of non-waypoint moving. I’ve never bought them and still I have close to two stacks of those things in my bank.

Moving at normal speed doesn’t bother me too much unless I’m opening up maps on a new character or trying to keep up with my group.

All in all I’m quite happy with the game as it is with regard to movement speed.

More open world stuff would be great, not totally bored but much is getting stale.

It’d be cool if they revisited the old maps to change some the standard map events for newer ones to indicate the passage of the past 3 years while still maintaining play-ability for new players.

I have hopes HoT will be big enough to keep it fresh for a bit and to allow some time to pass as I play it so I forget many older map events so those too will be more fun again when I do return to them.

I’d love it if my Asuran Ranger had a Golem skin to cover his pets.

Awesome Idea!! – now its time to steal a bit of it and post a similar thought in the ranger sub forums!

Racial pet Heros – Asura get a Golem, All the rest get a companion of same race.

Have them all be equal in skills and stats.

(All I truly want is for my asuran to have a golem companion that’s always with him )

Weapon Size

They are already gargantuan! The fantesyesqe humongousness of them is insane. If anything they need to be reduced in size and bulk. Wow!

OP have you ever actually held or swung a real sword? I know its a fantasy game, but come on – were pushing the extreme limits of that in weapon size already, any bigger and they have to reclassify this game as a superhero genre game.

For anyone drinking “Kool Aid” the title should be , “Never trust Jim Jones’ , they’re murderous psychopaths”.

That idiomatic expression always takes me back to the sad day my congressman died in Jonestown along the despicable murder of all those children.

edit: I think it’s very important we remember to what that idiom references every time we see it and not use it flippantly.

The one thing that I’ve been so looking forward to in these Beta Weekends is trying out the elites for Ranger and Engineer.

Those are my favorite classes to play and I’m super interested in giving my feedback on them as that is where my previous heavy playing experience lies.

Please Anet, sooner rather than later!

Windows 10 incompatable?

I don’t doubt many of you have real issues, but not all computers are the same. I’ve had absolutely no issues running the game on Win 10. My upgrade was fast and smooth.

I hope you all can get your issues resolved, but I just wanted folks reading this to know that not all outcomes are the same.

My machine is an OEM HP with an ATI video card.

Is GW2 P2W for you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pay to win – not at all.

It’s easy to gear the way you want with the best gear simply by playing the game. There is nothing that one needs to buy to be geared with that is superior to gear acquired through regular gameplay/crafting.

Cash for gems for gold simply speeds access to the same stat gear everyone else has access to as well as skins (no effect on gameplay) and fluff. You could say its “pay to speed to end gear”, but that’s not a very long trip and everyone arrives at the same destination.

No it is not P2W. Your assertion is laughably incorrect.

Would a Veteran BWE make sense?

What’s flawed in your approach OP is that there are “Vets” in the Beta-have bought HoT crowd.

How Anet might vet Beta comments is their call – they’ll have data on who folks are if they care to differentiate between groups within the HoT prepurchasers commenting on the beta. Who started the game in head start, who plays regularly, who ranks how in this and that, who played through all of the GW1 game/expansions, who spends money in the gem store, etc. They can sort it however they wish if they wish to do so.

It sounds to me like a long tirade to get what others have paid for without ponying up! If you want to participate it’s easy, buy in.

As someone else has stated, how do you determine who a veteran is?

Ask to see a certified true copy of his/her DD214.

Also, if you managed to put your ascended armors into the bank before the copy, they aren’t even limited to solely exotics – allowing you to re-create your regular characters exactly.

Awesome Idea – I’ll have to do that next time! Thanks!

As other have said no it’s not possible, however you can do what I did by creating a doppelganger of your existing character.

Just make a copy of your regular char – its easy to do and just limited by exotic gears provided (ie those tasty ascended gears won’t be available).

Lets air out those feet!
