yes thank you gaile for bringing that to our attention. this is what i felt was right

See nothing to panic over. They’re always listening even if it doesn’t seem like it

There was a big thread way before they announced the prepurchase asking for a slot to be included with the expansion. It wasn’t until after everything blew up(including massively, pc gamer etc) that they went back on it.
I’m not convinced they would have changed this if the freakout wasn’t as large. Even the worst companies know a thing or two about damage control.

If not, RIOT Er, uh, I’ll behave.
Thanks so much, Gaile. Glad the team had such a solid response after all the vitriol.

Gaile confirmed on reddit that you will receive 2 slots.

I still don’t think the expansion has enough to warrant that price. I hope there is a lot more to it than what we’ve seen.
It’s nice that they are including a character though.

Skill points and Spirit Shards?

A quick update on this one -> After feedback from presenting the original hero point count – we decided getting to level 80 will give you enough hero points to unlock all the core skills and traits entirely. Doing hero challenges (aka skill challenges) will simply allow you to earn all the skills/traits earlier before level 80. With the release of HoT, there will be options to spend the excess hero points earned from doing hero challenges in the world.

There are a number of other changes on 6/23 to make the experience from 1-80 more exciting, better-paced, rewarding, and fun as well after having the time to evaluate and player feedback from the updates last year.

I think it’s cool that are trying to get new players to join and I don’t mind them rewarding them to do so.
As of now, I just don’t feel the expansion is worth $50. I’m going to buy it and be happy anyways because I’m excited for the revenant and the new specializations, but really think it should have been cheaper.

What people are thinking is;

They changed position on requiring Core for HoT.
They didn’t change the FAQ to reflect the new position.

This would be the dishonest version…

…Which kinda obviously is exactly what happened.

They changed their FAQ when they began the prepurchase. They had already decided how they would do the prepurchase when they began the prepurchase, obviously; and in order to make the assets (website, the rest of the buying interface, FAQ localization and etc), they had to make the decision A LOT before they began the prepurchase.

Besides, with Colin and other high ups in E3, the decision was clearly made some time ago.

Yet they didn’t say anything. They allowed people to continue buying the game in order to prepare for HoT, even with said money being effectively wasted.

You said yourself what this is.

I guess so, good thing they’re allowing people to get refunds from recent purchases then.

Only purchases that were made directly through them. Sucks for all those people that bought from amazon, humble bundle and other retailers.

The precedent being set is every 3 years you pay 50-ish bucks to play gw2. I see no problem with that.

It’s more along the lines of, every 3 years abandon your primary account if you want to get the same value out of the package as a new customer. Once again, I’m glad customers get the opportunity to take advantage of these types of bundles. The lower the barrier for entry to them, the better. However, I cannot, currently, purchase a product of equal value to them at this time. I have already purchased vanilla in the past, I have no use for it now, so there is no logical reason for me, and a surprisingly large number of other customers, to purchase a current bundle.

The easiest solution to this would honestly be for Anet to just separate the bundle into two codes, one for vanilla, one for HoT, as this makes no difference for new players, and gives the exact same product value of the bundle into the hands of old players. There are simple solutions to this “problem” that would appease those who are hesitant to purchase the expansion at the moment. The marketing team just needs to design logical bundles of new players and old players, and then the criticism for all of this will die down significantly. Of course it’s important to realize that even if they Anet does change something with their current bundles, it will take some time for them to do so. Change doesn’t happen overnight, if it happens at all. That being said, for those that share my opinion on the matter, we need to be patient, but at the same time not be afraid to continue voicing our opinion. Likewise, those who think the bundles are fair are free to do so as well.

We can have both “White Knights” and “Entitled Crybabies” (like me!) on this forum debating. It’s what a forum is for after all: exchanging ideas and views on relevant issues.

So how do you answer the fact that WoW is doing this very thing now? That it makes sense for a company to do. That by not doing it they’re hurting their own game, they’re hurting their bottom line and yes, they’d be hurting their veteran players?

Wow bundles all expansions except the most current one together. In order to play their most recent expansion WoD you have to buy the base game, which includes vanilla up to mop. So $19.99 + $49.99 for a brand new player. Buying warlords of draenor without the base game doesn’t do anything for you. Of course a new player could just buy the base game, but they would only be able to access content up to level 90 where the new level cap is 100.
WoD by itself doesn’t include any precious expansions or vanilla.

Guild wars 2 has one of the best pve mmorpg communities. PvP is pretty terrible, but that is likely due to the displeasure of PvPers being largely neglected since the launch of the game, all the while Anet keeps chanting “Esports! Esports! Esports!”.

In all seriousness though, the GW2 community is pretty great.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fernling.1729

I’m hesitant to purchase HoT because I feel they are over pricing the expansion by quite a bit. From the information we’ve been given I would have expected the expansion to cost a max of $40 and that would have also included a character slot.
With the release of more information, namely, “challenging group content”, I think it is still possible that the expansion is worth the $50 price, but will still be hard to swallow knowing that I’ll have to fork out another $10 for an additional character slot. Pretty much makes this expansion $60.
I would be willing to pay $100 for the standard edition as long as the content provided justified the cost. HoT has always felt more like a DLC than an expansion pack to me. That could also be the lack of information on it. I just can’t believe they are asking for prepurchases without releasing more info about it.

In the end I will be buying HoT because I am excited for the new specializations and the new profession.

I would like the option to sell items back to vendors for the same amount of currency spent. WoW does this and allows an hour to sell the items back. Not only will it help with issues like this, but it also allows us to try items out before fully committing to the purchase.

A few months ago I had an unfortunate accident in regards to choosing a duplicate ascended armor piece and support was able to help me out. It took awhile for them to reply, but when they did they completely fixed my problem.

The only problem I have is with the possibility of having to grind out skill challenges on each of my characters. It’s really not a huge deal though. Needless to say, I’m very excited for HoT.

That’s what I’m saying. It’s ridiculous to think that they would do this to us. They made it sound like this isn’t the type of thing they want us to be forced to do.

Fernling.1729

Teq and TT can’t be considered challenging, all it takes is a crap load of players (WAY more than raids, mind you).

It took nearly a month to figure out the mechanics to Teq since no one knew how to dodge the waves properly, the poison pools at the time pretty much two shotted you without the help of turrets, and there was a limited time to even kill him, even when there was 100 people FULLY participating. Go back in the forums far enough and you’ll see some players at the time crying for a nerf. Not too sure on TT since my server seems to be the least organized for that.

If I remember correctly, Tequatl was defeated in less than 24 hours after the update. That doesn’t speak challenging to me.

It was more than 24 hours. And it was defeated by a group of 150 organized players that were all on voice chat. For weeks after, servers still failed Tequatl regularly.

http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/18/guild-wars-2-world-first-tequatl-the-sunless-is-down/

http://www.gameskinny.com/ky2cm/guild-wars-2-daily-slay-tequatl-defeated

According to this it was under 24 hours. Other article states that there were 3 servers that killed him in the first 24 hours.
From what I remember many servers were defeating him within a week. The real challenge was getting into the main overflow.
After a couple weeks he was on farm for many servers.

edit.. There are many youtube videos confirming less than 24 hour kill too.

I don’t think it’s really possible to have difficult open world group content. I’m not entirely sure I would consider any PvE to be difficult anyways considering it’s just a game of remembering a few attacks etc. That could be because I consider myself a PvP player though.

They can’t add gearscore because there is no gear progression.

of course there is.. What do you think the blue, yellow, orange and pink font means? Blue, and yellow are largely irrelevant considering the ease of obtaining exotic, but progressing from exotic to ascended is easy task.

I have close to a thousand hours logged and haven’t even finished a complete armor set of ascended.

2 tiers of gear (1 of them is just an overpriced gimmick that offers almost no advatage) is not enough to create any kind of gearscore system.
