Like I’ve said before, you have to cause quite the commotion in order to guarantee a response when they mess up.
A better question would be, how good can it be for the game to add content that can be enjoyed by only a handfull of people? When that same amount of workhours could be devoted to something that would benefit everyone in the game instead
WvW, SPvP, jumping puzzles, world bosses, crafting, gathering, dungeons/fractals, and everything else in the game fits that bill.
What makes you think hard content will be enjoyed less than any of the other things anet spends their time on?
There are a lot of people that don’t enjoy autoattack difficult content.

I really hope for unique rewards that are bind on pickup/account. I would greatly prefer that the rewards are only available to those that complete the “challenging content”. If you want the rewards associated with the content, you complete said content.
Passes are on ebay for $50, if that ends up being a route you want to take.
The last two times I contacted support they helped me out immensely. The requests I made were things I was sure they would deny, but decided to ask anyways and was pleasantly surprised.
This “everyone” gets a reward thing needs to be done away with and i’m glad anet is taking the right steps here
Harder, challenging content deserve better rewards than spamming auto attack in silverwastes and other open world zerg actitives.
Having exclusive rewards tied behind challenging content is perfectly fine, so long as they aren’t overpowered. Titles, skins, etc that are rarest should be tied behind hard content.
If you think the casual that play 2 hours a day deserve the legendary backpiece as much as the guy playing 6 hours a day in PvP leagues, than something is wrong with your logic. You have to earn it.
People who bust their rear deserve better rewards than some guy logging in a couple hours a week.
Very well said. I agree with everything here.
I hope raids have rewards that are not higher in stats, but unique in look that are not obtainable anywhere else in game. I think the rewards should be BoP as well to keep the prestige of the items.
I also believe that more challenging content should be more rewarding than less difficult content. If raids are more difficult than waypointing and autoattacking they should reward much more than world bosses. If they are more difficult than stacking in a corner and melting a boss in seconds they should be more rewarding.
I log in for the daily reward most days. I don’t have anything else to do after that.

I have some older hardware on my pc and I don’t recall having to adjust settings for Tequatl. I haven’t engaged him in quite some time, so I could be mistaken.
Anet has show time after time that they are willing to respond and make changes if the outcry is loud enough. Only when the entire forum, facebook and gaming news sites are complaining will you be guaranteed an answer or a fix. Until then you just hope that they care enough about screwing people(just a lil bit) and fix undo their mistake or fix the bug.

I think it’s great they are making it easier for new players to join. I’m sure there other mmos out there that do the same thing you’re seeing here.
I don’t know exactly what P2W means when it comes to games, but have always treated it as meaning a game(mmo) where the highest power comes only from spending real cash. If you didn’t spend cash or grind an insane amount you could never be at the same power level as someone spending cash.
So no, gw2 is not P2W.
GW2 has pay to avoid a lot of grind for power, but it’s less than what I would consider P2W.

I used to do them a couple times a week. I had to go out of my way and waste time doing them though. I have better things I could be doing in and out of game than wasting my time getting achievement points.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
I used to do a few of them a week. I haven’t really been doing them at all lately and can’t imagine it being something I’ll focus on in the future. I just have no reason to increase my achievement points.
Games always have fewer players 3 years after launch than they do six months after.
Minecraft, WoW and LoL are just a few where this doesn’t hold true.
WoW has lost 44% of its subscribers in the last year and is down to 5.6 million. It’s close to 2006 numbers.
WoW got a new system were you can pay for gold some store item (same price as sub fee)that give you 30 days of subscription, that item may explain some of the sub drop.
Nah, those count as subscribers. The sub drop is because the WoD expansion was the worst expansion WoW has ever released. It was good for PvE players, but chased away the pvp players. fortunately, Legion looks great for PvP players where they are balancing pvp and pve skills separately. New honor system doesn’t look too shabby either.
Wod was good for raiders and bad for PvP players and casuals, which is why they saw a huge sub drop.

I don’t think there is an accurate way to measure active playerbases when it comes to MMOs unless the developing company releases that information. Off the top of my head I can only think of Eve online and WoW that actually give information on how many people play their game.
People end up basing population off of sites like raptr, twitch and other trends because they having nothing else to go on.

tldr; Pointing to two extraordinary exceptions doesn’t invalidate a post you’re responding to.
I would have to disagree when the post I respond to says “all games”. All it would take is one exception to invalidate his entire post. If he would have said most or almost all I would have read it and nodded my head in agreement.
I don’t see anything abnormal when it comes to the population in GW2. There hasn’t been content updates in awhile now. Once the expansion is released those numbers will jump right back up. Just like WoW, when the expansion releases the numbers will jump right back up. Maybe lower than before or even higher, who knows.
This is the exact same thing that happens with a lot of mmos right before an expansion release. I believe it’s because little to no content is released where the developers are all working on getting the expansion together. You can disagree all you want. So we can change all to almost every single game, which would then be true and would then substantively say the same thing. There are some facts here which are facts.
There is NO MMORPG in the top 20 that hasn’t had an expansion in the last year. None. Zero.
Expansions keep people returning to games. So if Guild Wars 2 hasn’t had an expansion in 3 years and for all that time it was in the top 20, well, it’ hardly says anything about Guild Wars 2 directly. It doesn’t even mean less people are playing it’s simply that people who are playing are playing less time.
The gist of what was being said is that this is normal for almost all games. Congratulations for finding the exceptions.
I was just pointing out something that was factually false. It was a single sentence to correct someone’s mistake. The post right before that said the same thing you are saying now. Not sure what the big deal is when mentioning that some games have a higher population 3 years after launch than they did at 6 months.

What are you even talking about? Read what I quoted for crying out loud. Nothing was ever said about WoW having 5.6 million subscribers after being live for almost 11 years.
If you want to get down to it, WoW still has more players than it did 6 months after release. It would fit the criteria whether it was 3,4,5, or even 10 years.

I’m not going to go into much detail, but will throw my opinion in here as well.
I really like the new zone so far. My only problem is that I think it will lack replayability. I don’t really play for rewards, so that is the least of my problems. The bulk of my playtime I just want to relax and run around killing stuff in a zone that feels good to just hang out. Probably one of the reasons I enjoy Queensdale more than any other.
Overall, I see the zone having very high appeal, just not my go to zone because of the constant chaos. I do like the mob difficulty though. We have enough zones that can be autoattacked through, it’s nice to have one that takes some thinking.
The first part of the story is already great. I can’t wait to continue it. The mordrem are fantastic.
I like each of the elite specializations besides the chronomancer, which is kind of funny because I might consider my mesmer my main right now.
I’m not too sure how I feel about the revenant. I expected to like it a lot more. I think leveling one and playing with the skills as they come could help me with that.
I’m really looking forward to expanding the game with HoT and think most of the stuff being done is a big step in the right direction.

GW2 hasn’t had any updates for some time now. It’s not unreasonable to expect a drop in players until something happens to bring people back. We will see gw2 jump right back into the top 20 with the release of HoT.
I think you have confused what was said. The 25% of the map shown is only comprised of jungle floor area. No canopy, and no underground.
That’s not the same as 25% of the jungle floor shown.
Indeed.
Colin stated in this most recent PoI that the Beta Map (25%) was only of the jungle floor. No canopy available, and no underground (roots).
Whoa! Is this really true? So what er have seen of this single zone is 25% of the jungle floor. There is still 100% of the canopy and 100% of the underground and 75% of the floor that we haven’t even see seen?
That means we haven’t even seen 10% of this single zone. That makes these zones pretty darn big. I think fewer zones (3-4) is much more acceptable that I previously thought now.
I thought I read somewhere that what we’ve seen was 25% of the entire map. That would make the zones the same size or not much larger than core games zones.

I don’t understand threads like this. Not to be rude or anything, but this is a L2P issue. You have many tools under your belt to combat these mobs. The best being dodge, which everyone has the ability to use. All those mesmer reflects should be pretty great too.
Why even have dodging if the game doesn’t warrant using it?
Besides, what’s wrong with dying every once in awhile?
I really wish Anet would find a way to make a nm/hm work.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
Personally, what I wish they had done was a way to leave the starting area instance and go to LA to grab our ascended gear and out to vanilla maps to learn the new weapon skills, then be able to jump back to Silverwastes and speak to an NPC to start. I died a couple of times, not only through getting swarmed at the end but also cuz I was using my new weapon and didn’t know the skills.
Isn’t that exactly what you can do?
I left the instance area and went to a few older zones and messed around before going back to silverwastes and starting the story missions that led to the beta zone. Can you? I left, geared up and came back and couldn’t find the NPC. But maybe I didn’t look hard enough, or needed to go into my hero panel and start up the story.
Edit: went back on my Revenant. Didn’t see an NPC to speak to and my hero panel didn’t show any story line I could activate to start it up.
That’s strange, it works for me. I just checked it on a revenant and a mesmer. It directs me to Tactician Elke at red rock bastion. I did it this way and completed the story mission with my elementalist earlier.
If you don’t immediately leave silverwastes after creating a new character she is located inside the fort. If you return after leaving silverwastes you go to a spot just south of the doors. There isn’t anything there, you just go to the green marker and a window pops up asking if you want to continue the story. For me at least.
Ok. Ty. I didn’t see a green market in that direction, I was wandering around near the waypoint. I’ll try looking over there.
You say it directs you? By seeing the green star or was there a message somewhere?
I really hope we are talking about the same thing..haha
but yeah, it directs me like any other story mission would.

I’ve only completed the first story, the one where you fight the cavalier modrem. From what I played there, the story is in a good spot. It is easy enough that most people should be able to complete it without any issues at all, but at the same time it does require you to use a handful of your skills.
I think making the story more easy at this point would be a big step back for HoT. I like it where it’s at. If anything the difficulty could be ramped up a bit. It’s not like you only get a single chance to beat it. You can do it over and over again until you get it right.
I changed all my gear to berserker, maybe that’s why it wasn’t difficult for me.

Oh my… 3 new legendaries are being added with the expansion. It really feels like this expansion is being super rushed. Most days I’m reminded that the $50 price tag isn’t justified.
They will be releasing more new legendaries as the story progresses; it is likely to prevent players from rushing through the mastery line and getting the entire set of new legendaries within a couple of weeks (or however long) and having no other “end-game cosmetic” to work towards.
I probably should have read the entire thing. I skimmed through it quickly(watching expansion announcement).

I really enjoy my thief and my ranger. I don’t think you can go wrong choosing either one
I think I went up a couple fps. Only odd thing I’ve noticed is a weird scratch noise that happens when I launch the game.
From what I remember from “the other game”, Bashiok was pretty good and frequent with communication, knowledgeable about the game, and friendly.
Maybe that was true in the beginning, but at the end he was a sarcastic jerk that towed the Blizzard line even when Blizz was in the wrong.
I feel sorry for Wildstar if he’s going to be directly involved with it in any way.
I would still prefer bashiok over Martin Kerstein.. lol
Never heard of the guy.
~shrug~
Most people haven’t. He was a community manager for World of warcraft. Most people playing WoW have never heard of him either, unless they frequented the forums.
He’s working on Wildstar, not guild wars 2.
Are back pieces disabled when gliding? If not, it will be kind of weird pulling out a big kitten glider when you already have a pair of wings.
From the images I have seen and the live streams I watched during the first few beta tests (prior to the weekend beta test) it looks like going into glider mode hides back skins and weapons as well. It appears to be a transformation of sorts if I recall correctly.
yeah, I looked into it a bit after I wrote that. The clipping would have been way too much for it to work.
Funny enough some of the things I’ve complained about are also the things I like the most.
I like the active combat, the art, no gear treadmill, no level increase, casual pve, the story, which is something I never gave a fair chance, but now I really enjoy it. Overall I really like that I could stop playing for a year and jump right back in and be at the same gear level as everyone else. Not having to commit a ton of time to the game is what draws me back time after time.
You can always buy it on ebay for $20 usd
Not sure if I would trust that seller. They have minimal feedback. Of note 1 positive for the same item about 6 months ago, and one negative about a month ago for the same item claiming the items was never received. Plus that might be skirting the edge of RMT which Anet frowns upon.
Here’s a better seller. It will cost $5 more though.
I know WoW allows the selling of item codes, not sure how it works in GW2. I’m pretty sure they allowed people to sell the aion wing emote from GW1.

I just wanted to give thanks to the support for correcting my mistakes that I was sure would not be corrected.
On more than one occasion they have done something for me that I’ve seen others say they wouldn’t do or would be a pain to get done. A single support request and a couple days later and I’m all fixed up.
These really weren’t huge requests, but they were large enough to significantly change my attitude when playing gw2.
You guys are awesome. Keep it up.
Three years later we really need to let it go.
Agreed.
But I don’t think that asking players to let go while Anet continues to use it is the way to go..
I really do think that the manifesto should be removed in order to facilitate the, “let it go,” process as a whole.
I don’t think it would be good to remove it from an archive of all the videos the game has made. That itself would look like they are ashamed or trying to hide something by removing a historical piece of information.
Whatever happened to the video clarifying what they meant in the manifesto video? It seems like that would be awfully important to keep around alongside the manifesto video.
SMAA finally gets added, and it turns out it’s not in this build due to a bug, not listed under the antialiasing menu ;_;
Love the new light adaptation and ambient occlusion implementations though
What do you need to do to enable light adaptation? It is grayed out for me.
Enable post processing first.
I mostly log in for the daily rewards and log out. Some days I do the 3 dailies for AP and some days I run through a part of season 2’s living story. Gw2 has always been kind of my 2nd or 3rd mmo, so it’s not uncommon for me to play very little.
You’re a bit late to the party.
I would suggest reading through the dozens of other threads following the same topic.
This thread here could be a good start.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Pre-Purchase-Community-Address/first
Do we know if they will be including season 2 for free with the purchase of HoT? I haven’t seen anything to suggest they will be, but seems plausible that they would.
I also don’t think they will charge for future living story episodes like they did with season 2, considering we spent $50 for the expansion. Like many others have said, we aren’t just buying the expansion to get access to the content released with the expansion, but also future updates.
How in the world are stores like Walmart and target not authorized retailers? I remember the core game being purchasable at my local walmart shortly after release.
I voted for the mighty Dragon Hunter. I am the minority!
I think you’re reading a little too much into it. I believe a huge percentage of the playerbase wants nothing to do with PvP in the open world.
