About a week ago I was talking to some people in /m about achievement points and mentioned that I’m in the top 10% of achievement points having about 5k.
They didn’t believe it until a couple other people reported their percentage and AP total. There were people at at less than 3k AP that were also in the top 10% and people with less than 2k saying they were in the top 20%.

Is this a matter of the boards being broken or is there really that many accounts with less than 2k ap?

I don’t think gw2 is garbage., I think it’s one of the best mmos out right now. I don’t waste hours of my life playing it either. I play about an hour a week, sometimes more, enjoying what I do. Once I stop having fun I log out and don’t log in until I feel like I’ll enjoy it again.

I most certainly don’t think WoW is perfect, far from it. Years ago I adjusted to playing parts of the game that I still enjoy and it’s worked out well for me.
I think raiding in WoW is complete trash at this point, but I used to love it. There are many things about WoW that have gone seriously downhill, but I still think it’s the best mmo available.
I still think what I want from the game will come because I’ve seen it asked for many times in the forums and anet themselves have talked about it. Not everything I want, but some stuff that could really turn the game around for me.

I really don’t understand the why some think that you can’t play other games and post on the gw2 forums in the same day.
I don’t generally post in the eve or WoW forums because I’m okay with the direction the games are heading (they communicate) and I’m very happy with the current state of the games. I just don’t feel the need to post in the forums to talk about something I can discuss with my guild/corp. If I have an issue with something, the forums are the first place I go though.
I probably shouldn’t be posting in the gw2 forums because I only play about an hour a week and I’m mostly dissatisfied with the game. I guess I hang around because the game has(some say had) potential. Gw1 was my first serious mmo and still one of my very favorites, if they didn’t start with such a strong game that kept me entertained for thousands of hours and many years I probably wouldnt be here right now. I mostly hang around in hopes they change the game for the better. I think an expansion could possibly do just that.

So far to me, the living story has only proven to be incapable of providing the quality and quantity of writing and gameplay I expect out of an mmo that releases “an expansions worth of content”.
People keep saying that the living story can provide the exact same thing a full blown expansion can. Well, where is it?
Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by other mmorpgs and shouldn’t expect much. I don’t think so though. I also think anet agrees and I think that’s why they have been working on an expansion. If anet wants to have an mmo that gains popularity over time instead of losing it they will have to really shake things up to get people playing again. The living story just isn’t doing that.

Tentonhammer does still exist?

Well, what is their method of measuring this “best”?

Established MMO #1: Regained 4.000.000 subscribers with a single expansion this year. Looks like success to me.

Established MMO #2: Expanded to China with very limited success (being kind here) while just trying to keep the status quo in the West. Sounds not as successful as MMO #1 to me.

Logic? Tentonhammer is not good at it.

Since when does any MMO ind the industry compete with MMO #1?

“We were number two to World of Warcraft with Guild Wars, now we want to beat them. We’ll be satisfied when the Guild Wars 2 is the most successful MMO… One MMO has been on the top of the heap for seven years now, but there’s been a progression in the industry for other games being able to attract more and more players. And we’re set to climb to the top.”

Philosophy Shift to Less Choice

Fernling.1729

Perfect example of less choice: Merry Christmas PvE Players, you can today do Fractals or you can do Fractals if you only do PvE for your daily AP. Cos TWO CHOICES FOR PVE TODAY, CHRISTMAS DAY, ARE FRACTALS!

While that is a bit odd, it also means you can get both those dailies for doing only one thing.

And —>Point

-->Your Head

This is a perfect example of restricted choice, the whole reason behind this thread. It’s not a feature. This is ANet trying to force people to do moldy old content many people have no interest in doing to inflate metrics and say ‘see? see? people play all our content!’

I agree with this, There are only 3 PvE dailies today and one of them is fractals. Frankly I take issue with that, even though I personally got my daily in WvW today.

This is wrong. You can’t expect people who PvE to do fractals. You need 3 that are attainable each day without grouping.

In a way, I think this is the point of the new dailies. It’s a way to get people to branch out and do stuff they normally wouldn’t do. People that solely play open world pvp are now more inclined to try out WvW, SPvP and/or dungeons.

There are some big issues I have with the core of the game, which makes the game just “solid” and not great or amazing though. You will probably enjoy the game more if you don’t start playing with high expectations.

I think the game will just fall even more in popularity. The game has only decreased in popularity as time went on and with nothing big being released it will only continue on the same path. I think Anet has taken the lazy route with the living story and the “expansion worth of content” updates, which is the reason GW2 has followed the same pattern as most games and decreased in popularity as time went on.

I think the game will need an expansion or expansion size content to maintain a decent size population in the long run. Of course, there is concern of what they consider to be expansion size. We’ve already run into this problem with Colin’s idea of expansion size.

There are few doubts in my mind that they have been working on an expansion for a long time now. I suspect we will see the release of said expansion before the end of 2015. I would guess they will talk about it around the end of the current living story season.

One of the last dailies I crafted an exotic, gathered a few times and played in a pvp match and I received 10ap. It took me hardly any time at all. With the old system it would take me nearly the same amount of time(give or take 10 mins), but I would only receive 5ap. When logging in to do just dailies, the new system feels much more rewarding.

I did the dailies today and i think they are better than the previous ones. Sure I have to do a couple odd things I normally would never do, but it beats the heck out of doing the 10 that would be required for the 10ap before. It only took me like 20 mins to get more ap and rewards for the same amount of time it would have taken me previously.
If you’re into collecting ap, this is hardly a mark on the time it takes to do most other achievements in the game.

I play a lot of WoW and this is nothing compared to the things I have to do daily/weekly(like ashran conquest).

Nevemind, I see why people don’t like it. I guess it has its ups and downs. Now people will be forced into very specific things if they want to complete the dailies. Some people won’t mind it and some will hate it.
The only reason I was logging in was for the daily laurels, I couldn’t care less about the achievement points. I wonder if this will leave me not playing at all in the future. Besides just logging in and out, of course.

Honestly, Anet made a mistake by making dailies reward achievement points. Just one of many reasons that the achievement point system will never be as good or competitive as some other mmos.

Ok so, you skipped your way to 80 without experiencing most of what the game has to offer on your character … .

Is there anything in the game you are no longer able to do once you hit level 80? When I powerleveled my characters to level 80 I had access to everything they had access to at level 2 plus much more. I went back on my level 80s and did the low level personal story quests, dungeons, zones and crafting with zero problems.

I could be wrong now though. I haven’t leveled a character to 80 with the new trait and npe changes.

Years ago, I would have said Arenanet in half of a heartbeat. Before the release of Guild Wars 2, I would have said Arenanet. Before the November 2012 update, I still would have voted for them. Now…. sigh.

Yeah, back before GW2 I probably would have said Arenanet. Seems like a completely different company now.
I would have to agree with Square Enix being an outstanding studio, especially with what they did with FF14. If only other companies were willing to take the steps they have taken.

I too disagree. New players should start at the bottom with other people of equal skill. They can work there way up as they get better. I think it’s more than appropriate for new players to only ever queue ranked matches.
The matchmaking shouldn’t be putting people together that are a large distance apart in skill. The issues you’re worried about is due to bad matchmaking and a low spvp population.

GW2 endgame is grind...

@people saying all MMOs are grinding:

Not all MMOs say the following, though:

So if you love MMORPGs, you should check out Guild Wars 2. But if you hate traditional MMORPGs, then you should really check out Guild Wars 2. Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill

Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward.

We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun.

But in Guild Wars 2….you don’t need top tier gear to play the game and that makes a huge difference. Unless you want to do the highest tier fractals, which were designed for people who like to grind and enjoyed that play style, you can do everything in this game in exotics. Which doesn’t require grind.

You do realize this is true for most mmos, right. Especially in WoW where you have the LFR, you can experience the content with minimal gear. We’re talking gear you get from questing, dungeons and/or auction house. You can literally do all the content besides high level raids with quest/dungeon/auction house gear. The content is even tuned for such gear. The high level gear that you will have to grind for is meant for non lfr raids, not needed at all for anything else.
If you want to experience the content for story purposes, you have the lfr, which is easier than some of the gw2 dungeons. Well, maybe not at first, but once people start learning the fights, they are done with very few wipes.
Even complete noobs or casuals can experience the raids with little time requirement.

Just how many raids allow complete noobs in to just go through the content? I mean really. Sure some might but even in GW2 we have purist that will kick you if you are not following the current meta. From your statement LFRs are full of roses and ponies and the players let just anyone join up all the time. Really?

Then in your next statement you say “besides high level raids” which puts them all right back to square one. That to get to that level you need to grind to get the best armor/weapons. Where in GW2 you don’t and never did and (I hope) never will.

Peace.

I’ve never seen someone kicked from LFR, it’s not a very common thing at all. It is literally content tuned for people that aren’t good at the game.

Read what I was replying to.

“But in Guild Wars 2….you don’t need top tier gear to play the game and that makes a huge difference. Unless you want to do the highest tier fractals, which were designed for people who like to grind and enjoyed that play style, you can do everything in this game in exotics.” -Vayne

The same thing holds true in most mmos, including WoW. You don’t need top tier gear to do anything in the game except high difficulty raids. You can still experience the content of these raids too, in the form of LFR.
You can play the entire game(except the high level raids, which are just higher tuned LFR…raids, so you still can experience the content) without top tier gear. The entire game outside high level raids are tuned for quest, dungeon and crafted gear.

I expected a sequel to GW1. I didn’t care too much about the lore, even less after playing GW2. I just don’t enjoy the storytelling in GW2 at all. I really expected the gameplay to feel like it was a sequel of GW1. Needless to say, I’ve never been so disappointed in a sequel. If I didn’t rate GW1 as one of my favorite games of all time, I would have had lower standards for GW2. It really feels like the same people aren’t making the game.

I’m not playing the game right now. I just check in on the forums to see if there are any red posts giving actual information. I haven’t given up on the game at all, it’s a fun casual game, there’s just much better options out there right now. I’m currently spending a gross amount of time in WoW. The new WoW expansion is seriously impressive.

I like developers that respect their customers.

Yes, like the first game they put out had to be completely revamped because it sucked so bad. It’s so funny how people forget stuff.

Yeah, how dare they swallow their pride as developers, go back to the drawing board and then re-release a game in a much better state.
That takes effort and effort is for losers

I think it’s awesome that they did something like that, smart too. There have been a lot of mmos with potential that i would have loved to see get a overhaul like this. Not suggesting gw2, just a bunch of other mmos.

Well, I guess Angel decided to leave out one important piece of information, that team of 20 people is for each episode, and they work on 4 episodes concurrently(or they did, would assume that is still the case, otherwise they would not be able to release them biweekly if it was only 1 team)…which equates to roughly a total of 80 people working on Living World episodes(notice the plural)…and deduct from development staff, your overhead, GM’s, customer service, IT/network people, communication staff. etc. So it’s quite possible, that after all that, perhaps there’s anywhere from 100 – 150 working on bigger projects…maybe…but things could’ve changed since then.

One more thing, there’s another company up Arena.nets way that’s pretty kitten quiet about upcoming projects too, in some cases…until they’re ready or close to being ready…and they’re pretty kitten ed successful. I don’t think I need to name them either.

Old news, man. They switched from 4 living world teams to 1 long before Angel’s post.
Try to keep up will ya?
They really did switch from 4 to 1 awhile back, not too sure when though.
