The Currency Exchange will be offering incremental purchase options with a new build that should go out quite soon. So no worries about purchasing in “bundles,” you can purchase as you desire using the “Custom” option.

And what does soon mean? 1 week? 1 month? Or rather 1 year?
You know, they say that the new airport of Berlin will be opened “soon” . They have been using the word “soon” since more than 2 years.

Herein lies one of their largest problems with communication. Instead of saying “in the next couple days” or “here in the next week” or “in about a month”, they are purposely vague.
I’m pretty sure their infamous soon™ has resulted in things taking more than a few months(and some still not here).

Maybe they should roll back their previous system. It taking them this long to add a custom button doesn’t look good. It does explain the low amount of content delivered.

I got to admit, its taking a little to long to re-implement a “custom” feature we already had……

Maybe they lock the old thread in hopes everyone forgets about it. It worked with the fractal reset for the leaderboard.

It isn’t a ‘mistake’

If something causes this kind of backlash, problems for players and is widely regarded to be a horrible mistake, it is a mistake.

The GW2 china forums were even complaining about the change. They do complain about the gem store quite a bit over there though.

I actually haven’t noticed people saying the game is dead or will be dead in a year. I’ve seen people saying that not as many people are playing, or it’s less as time goes on, but that is to be expected of just about every single game/mmo. I truly haven’t seen someone claiming it’s dead in quite awhile. I’m sure there are some scattered around, but I haven’t noticed any.

If you really want the items now, just buy the gems. Even if you end up with excess gems, I’m fairly certain there’ll be something else down the track that you’ll end up wanting, so just hold onto the gems till then.

This is the exact thing people were complaining about. If he doesn’t have enough gold to “just buy” the gems, he will have to use real money.

They have released a lot of the content type that would generally be included in an expansion, it’s the quantity that is in question here. In my opinion, the living story is nowhere close to the amount of quantity that I would expect from an expansion.

In regard to the quantity I can agree with you. In my eyes the reason lies in the currently insufficient support of the LW team by other content teams. The LW itself does a very good job with season 2. The LW is now an evolved Personal Story with much more content and replayabilty. But as the Personal Story alone does not provide the whole spectrum of content the LW can’t either. PS and LW are rah´ther the rted threads guiding the player through the existing content and provide the back story for the introduction of the new content. At the moment we have mostly LW alone.

Sometimes I have the feeling the LW team has to develop the LW plus the content delivered via LW. This will not work for sure. The LW team is not big enough for this.

Supposedly the living story team consists of ~20 employees. It really makes you think they have to be working on something much larger. I’m willing to believe they have been working on a paid expansion. Where are all the writers? Where did the dungeon team go?
-New profession and/or race.
-5-15 new zones, most of them regular sized zones. Not drytop size.
-Hopefully it will at least double or triple the size of current abilities and traits available per profession.
5-10 new dungeons.
-AI completely reworked for enemy mobs and pets.
-Complete overhaul on how combat works. The combat system itself is awesome. The boring zerging is not. Figure out how to make bosses more fun, one hit kills aren’t fun. Defiance isn’t fun.

Just a few things I expect/want from an expansion. An expansion I fully believe they are working .

Some clarification here…it took a team of 100 employees just to get the game ready for the China launch…so those 100 were only doing things related to the launch of the game in China until recently.

The LS has four(4), I’ll repeat, four(4) teams working concurrently on their respective release, that is the only way A.net is able to release chapters every 2 weeks. So for the first part o LS S2, there was a team that worked on each of those releases, and if each team is ~20 people, there’s another ~80 employees right there.

Dungeon team…does not exist, there isn’t one

Then you have x amount of CS, remember they’re all apart of the A.net staff, and you have administrative, plus the PvP/WvW teams…you have a bug team…you have programmers(they’re separate from everyone else).

Get the picture now? They haven’t had enough free employees to be working on an expansion, and they have never been working on one, the Living Story is how they are releasing their content. Finally, the Feature Packs has their own team(or draws from a portion of they various other teams, not sure on that one).

I didn’t hear anything about them using 100 Anet employees to port the game over. I figured it would have been a lot of kongzhong and NCsoft employees handling that.

They’ve already said that there are only 20 employees working on the living story team. They used to have 4 teams, but it was consolidated into the single 20 man team.

We are talking about 120 employees accounted for if they really did have 100 working on the Chinese release. Anet has something like 350 employees.

We know that Anet outsources a bit of their work, like QA and most likely CS. Do they count that type of work into their amount of employees?

Well, one good thing is if they do decide to release it again, it should be around for good. With them not releasing more temporary content and all. Them not making holiday events temporary is more than understandable though.

Content we normally see in an expansion? Let me see what the LW system brought us.

  • new main story
  • new maps
  • new world bosses
  • new dungeons/fractals
  • new tier of gear
  • new tier for professions
  • new recipes
  • new armor skins
  • new stat combinations
  • new runes and sigils
  • new weapon skins
  • new skills
  • new mini games

It is quite a long list and I forgot some aspects (like new traits etc) for sure. These are all things you normally see in an expansion (pack). What we can discuss is the quantity of some points. But they are all present and delivered by the LW. Since we are in the middle of the current expansion cycle we can expect some more batches shipped to us.

You mix up content and content type. (One map is not the same content as 10 maps but it is all the same content type) Yes most of the content type you see in an expansion has been added but not most of the content because for that quantity is just as important.

What you normally see in an expansion is about 12 maps (usually a new continent and opening some new maps in the existing continent). All filled with stuff to do like (quest / events and so on.

You would see a whole new skill line to go for or a new profession. Or a race, or a combo of these.

You would see multiple new dungeons,

You would also see a completely new type of content a lot of the time.

Content for me includes type and amount. For you it seems it is only the amount.

Only the trait tiers. The individual traits were free. The tiers were dirt cheap, too.

I’m an idiot. Was that in response to my post?

I was responding to Phys, saying that the OP wouldn’t be grandfathered in to the traits because he only leveled his characters to mid 20s. He would still have to jump through hoops to get the individual traits.

I’m guessing it was just a statement saying that it was easy to get the traits pre trait patch.

Only come back if you plan on playing toons made before April’s patch.

Otherwise, you will be very frustrated with how grindy character progression has become

Didn’t you have to unlock the traits through the books before the change to be grandfathered in? I thought that’s what I read at least.

I know off people who spend double the price of other MMORPGS a month and most people who do that just do it to SUPPORT A-net but what do they get in return for support ? Grind , and more grind.

Yeah but all items in gem store can be bought with in game gold. If they support the game so much to spend double than other MMO then for them its not a grind. And the “grind” in this game is light compared to ALL other MMO.

No, the grind is as heavy if not more so than other MMO’s. Everyone has been doing the same content for two years after they had their run of their daily living story zerg content. I spent close to $400 on the game supporting Anet.. hoping their would’ve been more fleshed out dungeons and new armor sets to strive for. Instead of getting that content though they just popularized mindless zergs for rewards to convert gold to gems to get new armor sets.

IDK….. If playing the game is a grind then why play? A new dungeon path was added to TA and nobody plays because its not rewarding enough and too hard but the people who complained about harder dungeons I thought they asked for that because of the challenge. Guess they might not know exactly what it is that they want. People who wanted gear treadmill got fractals/ascended gear. How do you define grinding?

You can’t say nobody plays something just based on what your friend list does, okay?
Many ppl looking for a challenge love aetherpath (and fotm).

No i didn’t come to that conclusion from my friends list. I came to that conclusion from the forums. I mean it was very obvious if you keep up with the forums how many people actually ran the new TA path. Main complain was too hard/long for mediocre rewards.

A lot of conclusions could be made from the forums. It’s probably best we don’t pretend the forums themselves represent anything other than a vocal minority.

I like good stories, engaging content to the point you can almost get lost in it ,I enjoy pve mostly but pvp some times nothing to serious. I don’t mind chasing achievements’ or a grind if there is some goal to it . but mostly I feel it the community that a big factor in my enjoyment ,some games it can make or break it ,

I think GW2 has some really bad storytelling. I’ve never been able to get into it, too corny for me. Among other things. I just can’t get into it at all.
This game is predominantly a PvE game imo. The PvP parts(WvW and SPvP) see next to nothing when it comes to updates, which has made them more than stale at this point.
For example, SPvP is still using the same game type since launch. Every single map is domination, which is equivalent to EoTS/Arathi basin if you’re familiar with WoW. The only SPvP in the game feels like a single battleground game type. No diversity to be seen.
I won’t really comment on WvW because I’ve never enjoyed the format. I just know that everyone seems to complain about it, and It doesn’t any updates.

Achievements are not worth chasing imo. The amount of grind attached to some is not really humanly possible. Like the kill 1 million dolyaks or capture 1 million objectives in WvW. There are a lot of achievement points that are no longer obtainable as well. So you will never be able to actually collect them all at this point. If that’s what interested you.

The community is one of the better ones I have experienced in an mmo. I would suggest that you avoid pugging dungeons early on. It would really distort your opinion of the players.

I would just install it and try it out, since you own it already.
Just remember, the endgame starts at level 2. If you don’t like what you’re doing at level 10, 20 or 45, you likely won’t like what you’re doing at level 80.

Not sure what you are looking for exactly, but there is discussion on raids being introduced into the game by the developers(they are looking to hire a raid director as well).

Dervish are a light armor class in GW, Paragon were Heavy. Ritualist were also Light. IF A-net were ever to add another profession it would probably be Paragon because it would give us 3 professions of each armor weight and they could introduce Javelins as a new weapon.

Pretty sure Dervish are a medium armor profession. I could be wrong, haven’t played my Dervish in years.

Holy freaking crap…. 6k hours. I would be walking away with my head held high and recommending the game to everyone I saw. You should be thrilled that you got that much for such a low price.
6,000 hours! You should be the Guild Wars 2 poster boy. Imagine the sales pitch they could have with this kind of success.

I’m disappointed by the labyrinth. I just couldn’t get into a populated shard, never more than a few other people. I tried ferrying over using the LFG tool and it was again, just myself, group and a couple others. I eventually gave up and probably won’t mess with it again.

Did I say that? No, really, I’m looking over and reviewing what I said and that doesn’t appear in there. And this defensiveness is exactly why I suspect a Raiding CDI is going to either fail hard or require so much herding of cats it will never amount to anything useful.

. . . and yes, since you said it, that cuts both ways. Sure, the “ima troo gamer!” chest-thumping annoys me to no end. So does “go back to WoW if you want raids”. We have raids right now, open-world raids, in the revised Tequatl and Triple Trouble. Are these terribly easy compared to other raids?

How should I know? I play this game. I know they don’t hold a candle to Absolute Virtue, if you want to set a bar for “hardcore”. I know Quarm could take that Great Jungle Wurm and pass it like it had a bad burrito. But . . . they make good warmups for knowing how to organize and do your roles so you can get a success.

And that’s important. I’d personally like to see more “raids” extrapolated from those two into harder territories. If it gets too hard? I won’t do them.

It’s still not cool to push for a design so “casuals” can’t play. That’s not the problem with raids anyway – the problem with raids is when you get some yahoo who doesn’t listen and decides to Leeroy up and mess it all up.

The game is built so it has a base inclusive feel for it. Can we please, please not screw that up?

I do, but mostly because I utterly stink at it. But thanks for your concern.

I’m just saying that every single part of every mmo has toxic people. I don’t see why people like to target the raiders. Maybe we should remove the dungeons from the game while we are at it. PvP players are kittens. WvW players are so bad that Anet had to get rid of WvW forums. The list goes on and on.

There are elitist kittens everywhere, it doesn’t mean that we should remove or keep people from enjoying another piece of content. Penalizing the majority for a fews actions is inane.

Colin: Currently, no. Interesting statistic for you – every condition in the game costs server bandwidth. We have to track how often the condition is running, what the duration of that condition is, and what the stack is at. So the more stacks we allow, the more expensive it gets because we’re tracking every additional stack on there. So, we could say that you could have infinite stacks. Number one, that becomes really imbalanced. But number two, it’s really expensive for us on a performance basis. That’s one of those weird, kind of backend server issues that can help make game design decisions regardless of what you want to do with it.

And a sidenote – I love how, it’s three pages in and already there are people mentioning “leeching” and so forth.

If you want to know my biggest objection to raids? This is why. That attitude? Don’t want it stinking up the game any more than it already does. Hard content which is punishingly difficult so “the filthy casual leechers” don’t take part? Fine with it, I just won’t do it.

Oh my god NO, no instanced raids. I been raiding in mmo’s for so long and got out of it and are so happy with GW2. I am still raiding, but in wvw as it should be because GW2 is a pvp-game with pve content hence the name GUILDWARS-.
Please do not make pve-raids. More world content and maybe even harder content, is highly appreciated, but raiding you can do in any other mmo-game, we don’t need it here, we have endgame already. WvW is endgame.

The stress of raids, of gear grind, or keeping buffs up, having dedicated healers, tanks, counting every little dps you put out there and to grind reputation just to get 5 dps/hps more it is just not what i want with this game and also the reason why i choose this when i quit Rift, the most grinding, elitist (and yes i was in top tier of raiding) money hungry game i ever been in and i was there for 3 years. Never again!

people like you are the reason why gw2 has become so stale and boring

-having dedicated healers and tanks (trinity)
-grinding reputation

i do hope the mods will do a good job and keep the raid cdi clean from the anti-raid faction

I am 100% fine with end-game raids that are built for the hardcore player.

Under 1 condition:

They add no new “best in Stat” gear. Gear progression stops with Ascended/Legendary like they intended.

That still leaves you with new unique cosmetics as rewards for raiding, new only obtainable via raiding skins and minis, AND possibly Legendary weapons or guaranteed precursor drops, and I think that this is a possible way to add another method of precursor acquisition not tied to RNG.

As a former raider in WoW, this is all I would ask of them. I don’t want an increase in stats. I would just like to see unique weapons, armor(soulbound/account bound only) and titles from completing the content. I would like to see the option of extremely difficult content that takes extensive planning in tactics and coordination.
Please give me a reason to join a guild.

idk about 60$ it would need to be a insane expansion … new game

An “insane” expansion is typically what you would see. I would gladly pay(wouldn’t expect anything different either) $60 for an expansion the size of Factions, nightfall or any of the WoW expansions.
I would also be okay with paying $10-$20 every 4-6 months for a DLC type expansion.

Gw2 is so very far from dying. Especially in a world where very few mmos ever actually get shut down. I would just shove the quarterly reports down peoples throats that believe the game is dying

The google trends does show that ff14 is searched more often than gw2. Over the last year, gw2 hasn’t surpassed ff14 a single time. We are also forgetting about runescape, which is trending much higher than gw2. We will have to see how archeage will hold up, since release it’s been higher, which is to be expected. I have a feeling it will hold up though. Gw2 one month after launch had a 38 and archeage one month after has a 37.

From those mmorpgs and WoW, that puts gw2 at #4, with a potential #5 depending on what happens with archeage.
I’m pretty sure I’ve said this exact same thing before. Lol

I just wanted to pop in here and thank Anet for listening to the players. I don’t like that it took an uprise of this size to make it happen, but overall i’m happy to see that you guys are willing to make changes where necessary.
Hopefully in the future we will see better communication in these type of matters.

Don’t kid yourself, they didn’t say they are going to adjust it (they haven’t done anything yet) because of the uprising on the forum.

They only said they’d fix it after major gaming sites caught onto it and called them out on their shenanigans.

You’re right. I should wait until they actually fix it. I should also wait to see if they take their sweet time with it too. It’s a simple fix, surprised it wasn’t patched today.
The forums blowing up and gaming sites reporting the negativity is the uprise I was talking about. It is crazy that the players have to act like this to make something happen.

There’s many reasons I like Blizzard. Their ability to communicate through many facets is just one of them.

I’m hoping we start seeing bigger releases now that the China release is done. I don’t know how much work it took to get the game released there, but I imagine it took a lot of man power.
I would really like to see the same updates on top of an expansion pack. I would preorder an expansion in a heartbeat.

I just wanted to pop in here and thank Anet for listening to the players. I don’t like that it took an uprise of this size to make it happen, but overall i’m happy to see that you guys are willing to make changes where necessary.
Hopefully in the future we will see better communication in these type of matters.

When searching for this “postponing of Crystal desert”, I read that you can actually see the crystal desert from a zone. I don’t remember where I read it, or where you could see it from. Does anyone know where this spot is?

It would really be as simple as a little button that says “custom amount” and for Anet to say “we screwed up, it won’t happen again.”. Just that and it would go back to the way it was before, but now we would have people praising Anets willingness to make changes that work for their players.

I think whoever thought that having set amounts and no user-set amounts was a good idea should be fired. No one is gonna have exactly 800 gems to convert to gold if they buy something, like a 200 gem skin, beforehand. I now have one gem that I can’t do a bleeding thing with. I’ma quit buying gems until you guys Un-FUBAR this mess.

I disagree that 200 or 100 is low enough. I think the very lowest that is acceptable is 1. If they can add 100 they can add 10, 4, or 1. We already know they’re capable of making it a custom amount, why should we accept any less.
If they need to make more money, do it a different way that is less scummy.

Haven’t you noticed, it’s the only way for them to acknowledge the playerbase’s concerns.
Well, apparently support tickets by new players saying the currency converter is confusing seems to grab their attention too.

And here is what I was afraid of with them continually responding to outcries the most and people feeling okay to throw tantrums rather than hold discussions. This sentiment, right here, that the only way to get an answer is to threaten, belittle, and in general make a scene.

Welp, I now know what I must do to get my asura-firing trebuchet.

I’m not saying I agree with this. It’s quite pathetic really, for both sides.
The fact that they don’t communicate changes before developing/releasing changes like this beforehand is rather disconcerting.
Surprise updates that kitten off the players seem to happen all too often in GW2. It all leads back to their issues with communication.(imo)

There have been pretty much non-stop posts in this thread all day and yet the last “feedback” we got was 19 hours ago. Where are the devs?

I guess it’s taking a little longer than usual because they only wanted a couple of sandwiches but had to buy 400 of them.

You know in psychology where they present you with the worst options and allow you to remove one option thus making you accept the bad options?

I think Anet is doing this to us to make us accept these changes. Like the NPE, they lowered the elite skill from 40 to 30 and made the skill challenges account bound. This reduced the flame from the forums and made people gradually accept the NPE (judging from the forum posts).

For this gem conversion, I guess they will likely introduce smaller increments to accept this and still would not revert to the previous system where you can say convert my gold to 1 gem.

TL:DR – I hope there would be no compromise this time, just revert it to the previous system

Agreed. I was already telling myself that I would be happier if they would have increments of 100.
You’re right. We shouldn’t settle for anything less than at least as good as it was before.

Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions.

I assure you, the team leader told me not 15 minutes ago, they will listen to suggestions.

  • Does that mean you get everything you want? Probably not.
  • Does that mean you should suggest something? Yes, of course! Because they’re expecting player input.

So you want lower increments? Think it through and present a suggestion! You want XYZ in the interface? Post that idea. You would rather see something else? Post what you think about that other thing. Please don’t get into the whole “I’m going to kick the devs and their little dogs, too” because it’s not doing you or us any good at all.

I’m not here to apologize. I’m here to communicate and right now, the communication is coming in without a whole lot of substance. Over to you for suggestions and constructive input!

If you really cared about our suggestions, you would have asked before putting the work into changing it.
I get it, rake in the bucks and pretend you care about what is being said.
It’s just odd for you to break something and then ask for our suggestions on how to fix it.

Pretty obvious that it’s a tactic to bring in more sales. If it backfires and loses them sales, it serves them right for being greedy.
