Copied and modified from a previous post I made back a month ago:

From the latest Raptr stats:
http://caas.raptr.com/most-played-pc-games-july-2014-summers-winners-and-losers/
GW2 is in the top 20 list!

People say only a small number of people use these 3rd party apps and wrong, etc, however look at the relative percentages to the other games within the stats, then compare with the Steam stats:
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
Beware not all the games in the Raptr list is in the Steam list because those games aren’t released on Steam.

(At the time of last month) You’ll notice eg. DOTA2 ~2-3 times the numbers of Counter Strike, CS ~4 times higher than Civ 4, etc, so the Raptr stats do seem to provide a reasonable estimate in terms of relative positions.
Now looking at where GW2 lies in the Raptr ranking, it’s about the same as Garry’s Mod, Civ4, Skyrim, so looking at those games concurrency, you get peak of ~50k-60k and normal of ~20-30k, so GW2 is probably around those number, so it’s fairly small.

TLDR: GW2 concurrency is probably around the same as in Garry’s Mod, Civ4, Skyrim on Steam.

There’s an updated Raptr.

http://caas.raptr.com/most-played-pc-games-august-2014-league-of-legends-world-of-tanks-get-an-esports-boost/

I’m in the boat that doesn’t believe 3rd party applications are a good way to measure players. If anything I would base popularity off of twitch.tv, that’s even the site that Arenanet directs its players to.

Sounds like a pointless thread. This will just start a flame war.
Should do yourself and everyone else a favor and delete it before it gets out of hand.

If I was to guess, I would probably say somewhere between 18k-28k on average.

Why is LFG Still BETA?

Beta doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s bugs in the system, it may simply mean that they have more features in development

I think it means that the core system is still in development.

Ok, some other stuff missing from that list:

  • Replacing the missing profession mechanics UI for the Elementalist, Engineer, and Guardian professions
  • Offhand weapon not unlocking until level 7
  • Weapon Swapping not unlocking until level 15
  • Utilities 7, 8, 9, and 0 not unlocking until levels 13, 24, 35, and 40 respectively
  • Underwater combat not unlocking until level 8, underwater skill 5 not unlocking until level 23
  • Most juvenile pets missing from starting zones
  • Mechanics of many early heart quests reduced to make them more boring.
  • Apples missing from apple orchard

I may still be missing a few, but fixing those need to be a priority as well.

Good luck with that list, the level unlocks are the core of NPE, not bugs.

A lot of people are expecting some kind of legacy feature. Where veterans don’t have to go through the same gating that new players do.

Could we get more details on this? Only then can we actually give feedback.

So were these the only parts that were considered to be bugs?
besides the ones already fixed of course.

Nah. That’s what the “other aspects are being considered” means. The team is open to suggestions. From what I understand, this should not be considered a final list.

Thanks for asking.

I was more trying to figure out what were considered the bugs and what was considered intentional, but this more or less answers that. It sounds like most of the changes that upset a lot of people were intentional. It also appears you guys are open to feedback and things could be changed based upon this feedback.

I just checked out Archeage and it looks pretty good. From the youtube, it looks almost like GW

Actually it is called in the games forum often “QueueAge” and for a lot of people it is not F2P (free to play) but F2Q (free to queue) and even paying customers (patrons etc…) have to wait 1-2 hours or longer in queue after log on before they can play (or get a disconnect during waiting…).

Greetings.

That just means a lot of people are playing. Give it some time and it should get better.
I haven’t tried it myself, and haven’t looked much into it. I do have it downloading now though.

I’m missing something here… You only have to unlock a few of the top traits, right?

You have to unlock every single trait individually, except for Minor traits which still function the same as before.

Hmm, I checked out a guide on dulfy. I definitely missed this update. Was this well received?
It looks like it could be fun. Looks like they tried to bring back the skill capture from GW1. I’m kinda excited to try this out. I’m guessing it will feel more like a hassle than it’s worth though.

the execution isnt done that well, for the system its going for.
But you can try it yourself and get back to us on the implementation.

It probably won’t be for months if ever.. lol
I’m not a big alt guy and typically play for a few weeks a year in gw2. Play for a week or two and get bored and then take a 3-6 month break. I just feel like I come back to the same old thing each time.

I’m not seeing that. I’m seeing 2%.

YES: For gem store items 47%
YES: For both gem store items and to convert to gold 27%
NO 24%
YES: To convert to gold 2%

ah, yeah. I don’t know how I missed that.

Let us know if you hit an XP bug around level 28-30, where a kill is like 8xp and you need 170k xp per level. Not sure if it was dealt with in fixes. First time I felt overwhelmed. Fortunately, it is apparently a bug. Next time I got overwhelmed was when I realised I had to unlock every single trait by doing a different task for each one, or alternatively paying a hundred odd gold to unlock them up front.

I’m missing something here… You only have to unlock a few of the top traits, right? Did that change too?
I haven’t leveled an alt in quite some time, well besides the one I’m working on right now.

I’m really confused. I just returned to Guild Wars 2 after not playing for 2 months or so.. And this new player experience is really confusing me.
I decided to buy a whole bunch of armor since mine was getting a bit weak for my level. I’ve purchased every piece I want but it says that the trade has to be accepted from the seller? I think that’s terrible, what if that seller doesn’t come online for a month or a year? When I buy things from the trading post, I want them n.o.w. If something is put on the trading post, it is because the seller wants to sell it, they shouldn’t have to confirm people’s purchases, I think this is ridiculous.
Is there any way to disable that feature? I really don’t know if I can keep playing the game if all these previously well working features are going to be made so complicated. It’s ruining the fun of the game.

You don’t have to meet up with the seller haha. Just go to a trading post guy and you can pick it up. It’s just like it was before.

There will be endless things for you to do. Just getting a character to 80 with ascended will take you a very long time. Everything got alot harder.

Assuming you are talking about unlocking weapon skills in the old system, at level 30 it would have unlocked them within a couple basic mob kills.

In the old system, weapon skills unlocked faster the higher level you were. On my Guardian, I never used greatsword and then one day I decided to make a greatsword build on my level 80. I unlocked four skills in a matter of seconds.

Yeah, pretty sure at level 80 it was 1 skill unlock per kill.

Not surprising at all, people need/want a real expansion. This living story isn’t cutting it in terms of what we would see in an expansion, even though Colin thinks an expansions worth of content was released the first year.
release an expansion with half a dozen dungeons, new race and profession and a dozen or so new zones.
It just feels like we’re playing the same game that was released over 2 years ago. This living story is only a couple hours a month of new content.
But as many others(like Vayne) believe, they already have an expansion in the works and have been for quite awhile now.

I get that you want to be “hip” and not have an endgame, but it truly is needed. Player retention is obviously something you want to work on. How about instead of trying to reel in new players you try to get back some of the 3 million that originally purchased this game.

I always found it interesting that they would include things that represent their biggest competition.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is Guild Wars 2’s biggest competition? I can understand Star Wars: The Old Republic, but not that.

Everyone go look at the glassdoor.com entries for arenanet. A fair amount of people who worked there agree that the upper management is out of touch. Important people have left.

http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/ArenaNet-Reviews-E255820.htm

Glassdoor is never representative of a company. Typically you see more negative post there because they are upset about something(being fired, laid off etc.). Just about every single large company will have a large amount of negative reviews on that site.
If I remember correctly, anyone can make an account and post a review for a company, which further dismisses the legitimacy of said reviews.
Not saying that they are or could be real, but I would take everything read there with a grain of salt.
Important people leaving from a company is just a normal occurrence. Change can be a great thing or a bad thing.

Because they really did run tests with new players and this kept new players playing longer and staying with the game longer. This is what Colin said directly. A year of testing on new players.

The thing I find fraudulent about that is we were all new players once. I don’t know anyone out of all the players I know who had difficulties with how the systems worked before this patch. After the patch is a different story, so saying its to help new players is a self-defeating standpoint.

I have my kids who are now 11 and 13 (who were 9 and 11 at the time of release) who could pick up the game fine before the patch who are now wonder what’s wrong with the “new players” this patch is aimed towards. From my point of view if a 9 and an 11 year old could pick up the game and play fine with little to no gaming experience but something like this has to come out… somethings wrong somewhere.

But metrics.

Anet’s biggest problem is they’re wasting time on this stuff instead of putting out new content.

Even the most fanboy players have acknowledged that there has to be something huge going on in the background because of how small the updates are. The amount of content produced just doesn’t match with the amount of people working on the game. It’s only logical to assume something is being worked on. Most seem to think it’s an expansion pack, I can only hope.

I hope so, because if it’s not, then it’s done.

I’m giving Anet until x-mas to release an expansion – then I’m moving on without looking back.

I don’t play nearly as much right now, but with no x-pac (or equivalent level of content) by christmas, there will be plenty other options to choose from.

Star Citizen just released v0.9

I would just quit playing now then. There is no way we will be seeing any decent amount of content by December. We already know they are planning on continuing the living story here in a couple months. By December I’m expecting the Halloween event and 2 living story updates. So about 5-6 hours of gameplay with some of that being repeats.

They keep saying it is for the new players. But the thing is the game is actually harder with a bunch of skills or traits locked. (not that the game is actually hard…)

They mean that it’s easier to ease new players into the game. It’s Anets take on a tutorial.

My hot water heater is called a hot water heater…but it only heats cold water. Hot water doesn’t need to be heated.

What something’s called doesn’t equate to why it was designed. Colin was pretty clear about player retention for people just starting being a problem and it had to be fixed. Presumably because they’re going to have a free trial and they want that experience to hold more people.

I don’t know why you’d think that meant someone already at level 8 or 9 who experienced the old system already would like this one better. Particularly if a bunch of experienced vets are knocking it.

I used to work at a retail store selling water heaters and this redundancy always annoyed me. They are called water heaters in the usa, not hot water heaters. Being from the usa yourself and being a man of a language, I’m sure you already knew that though.

He said “My hot water heater is called a hot water heater”. No, it’s not. Even the manufacturers refer to them as water heaters. That, “if,” remains to be determined.

No it doesn’t. We already have statements from new players.

I stated very specifically that it’s unknown which number is more, those driven away or those coming in.

But new players are being discouraged by these changes, and that’s not a good thing when it’s supposed to do the opposite, even if it’s only a small number. Because those discouraged will, much as the video maker did, pass that on to more people.

It was intended for players who are starting the game after the patch.

It is called the new player experience. It’s intended for new players, period.

If they really want to impress rangers, they should put some work into the pets. AI is still terribly buggy and the f2 skill delay is still there.

I haven’t had too much trouble with the pet F2, but I guess that’s because I taught myself how to work with it and not to rely on insta-cast too much from them. It’s not as good as my GW1 pet control in some aspects, but in others it works pretty well.

Please what.

So might stacking (and fury if you have persisting flames trait as ele) through combo fields is useless? Stealth through smoke fields is useless? Heck, even water fields have use in PvE. The others can still be used, even though they’re not as effective in many cases (well, maybe blasting dark for blinds if you really need that… so is condition remove through a light field).

I swung a sword again. Hey! I swung it again.’ That’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun.” ~ A Sword Swinging Backpeddler

And people wonder why Anet won’t talk to them. A quote from a four year old video is still being quoted today and used as a weapon of sorts.

Anet should just shut up and stop saying anything. It might come back to haunt them.

Anet was still referring people to this video up to the launch of the game. if it was no longer relevant they probably shouldn’t have done that.
