I don’t think its pay to win, but could see why people think it is.
One thing that gets me though. I’m nowhere close to getting an ascended weapon at 600 hours played. If I spent cash I could buy ascended stats (legendary) that would allow me to avoid countless hours of grind. Some might call it a “convenience”, but I’m inclined to think its a bit more than that.
So they reset everyones fractal levels for a leaderboard they haven’t even started coding yet?
It’s just random. My wife got one years ago, when we played Guild Wars 1. They randomly select people, I guess because it’s too expensive to send a printed card to everyone.
We thought it was a great gesture.
According to the wiki it is not random.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
There is plenty of people still playing it. Overall GW1 is superior to GW2 imo.
Can we just necro all the dev threads so the whole front page contains dev posts?
I mean, in typical fashion, ARGH robert! Can we have an update. It’s been over a year? Are you guys still gathering feedback in your post-arenanet employment?
Robert was let go awhile back.
ascended gear was added to the game simply to rectify ANET’s own mistake in estimating how long the players could get the exotics, which turns out to be very fast….
so yeah, it’s their mistake; we had to grind…
It’s amazing that people still believe that lie by Anet. Please refer to the (now infamous) quote by Colin Johnson about expecting people to reach BiS gear by the time they reach level 80.
It’s weird seeing this.
On one hand we have Colin saying saying that they want and expect us to have the best statistical loot by the time we hit 80. Then, we get a post from someone else there saying that it was never suppose to be like that.
I would think their bag of BS is getting thin at this point.
I bought the game via Amazon and all my gem purchases $600+ were made via Paypal so I doubt I get a card since I don’t think they have my address. :P
I hope they give you a couple free copies of GW3 when it comes out for spending that much!
They do that every year. It’s just a little something extra they do. Sent to random players and has nothing to do with the cash shop.
From the wiki.
Wintersday Cards are hand-signed cards sent out, in real-life, to selected players by the ArenaNet development team
The selection criteria for who obtains the cards is secret, but the distribution is not random.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Wintersday_Card
Thought it would be fun to try and figure out their “secret” to who receives a card.
I’m guessing it has to do with either cash spent or possibly loyalty.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
How much have you spent in the cash shop?
@BunnyAssassin.5374:
Firstly: If you are posting here, you already have a game account, so I am a little confused about your situation.
Secondly: If you didn’t receive an email, l’d suggest checking your junk/spam folder to see if it’s there.
Lastly: If you feel you should have received an email (again: I’m confused, because only people with game accounts can post on the forums), please contact community@arena.net and we’ll investigate.
Thanks.
Some people already have an account. They entered the contest for a second account.
Won’t ever buy a B2P game again, 90% of the developer focus in this model is creating crap they can sell. I’d rather pay a subscription and get real content and attention to balance.
The amount of new content since release that I have actually enjoyed has been close to zero.
Almost no substantive balance or diversity improvements have been made in a year, with the notable exception of WVW and art, the game could not have disappointed me any more than it already has.
I can relate to this a lot. Anytime a new mmo is announced(wildstar, eso, eq:n etc) I just hope that it will be sub based. I’ve never been big into f2p/b2p mmos, but GW2 definitely left a nasty taste in my mouth. It’s not terrible, I just think things would be significantly better as a sub mmo.
Isn’t it only for the celestial armor? If so, does anyone actually use that? I can’t imagine it be useful.
Dwayna is no longer account bound, but I can’t search it on the TP!
It’s not dying and it’s not flourishing. It appears to be just okay imo. Zones are empty for the most part unless you are in Queensdale or the focus of the LS. SPvP has hardly anyone at anymore. It does seem to be dropping off a little bit as time goes on, but that is normal for your typical mmo.
Bug fixed. Light of Dwayna recipe now tradable. All is right in the world again.
Guys, please calm down and see above.
My recipe isn’t tradable.
Are the complete items dropping from the boxes, or just the recipes?
Just the recipe.
I just opened about 1200 giant gifts and got 3 grenths and 1 dwayna.
This will probably be deleted, but thought it might help someone out.
Physical edition for $24.99(US, not sure about others).

I would probably play a dwarf.
Tarnished coast is the best I have been on.
They have said multiple times that they plan on increasing the cap.
Although, I don’t think they will do it without an expansion.
GW1 skills were not a grind at all for me.
Not seeing my submission.
Haha, that’s because you didn’t read the rules! :P
This is yours, right?
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rIFen1IyTg8
None. I don’t have a single piece of ascended anything on any of my characters.
There were 5,000 winners so there must have been at least that many entries.
I tried searching youtube for several variations of GW2 oath(migration/oath/etc) and didn’t see anything other than the 118 videos and a sims guy.
I think they already had the page written and decided to just go with it.
What’s the chances of 97%+ of the uploaded videos not to have anything about gw2 migration or oath in it?
Anet was willing to give away 5000 free accounts just for submitting a video of yourself taking the GW2 oath.
Why didn’t you people submit a video to get a free account for a friend, family member or even for yourself as a storage?
Anet has tried supporting the twitch streams. It still sits at 300 viewers unless theres something big going on, and still can only reach a couple thousand.
I’ve had the opposite, the matchmaking in this game is the most fair I have seen in any game that is considered an MMO. If you want to talk about broken matchmaking, play a game like world of Warcraft.
Why? I think WoW legitimatly had one of the best Arena systems, you could see your MMR whenever you wanted, you saw exactly how much you won or lost after a fight, there were a ton of people playing, it was very fluid and the queues were short, i can count the amount of 2v3 games on one hand after thousands of games, the only place where matchmaking was bad was in ratings of say 2400 and up where you ended up with -10 point losses and +1 point wins but that happens in the higher ratings of pretty much every MMO no?
I had the same thoughts reading that post.
I would like to see a Dcuo type wardrobe.
I thought P2W was when you could only get best gear with real cash, and thus have an advantage over others. I must have been mistaken. Still, the game has been using the same model since launch and hasn’t folded yet; I guess it must be tolerable to a great many players.
It’s not always that straight forward. What if it cost $20 or 100 hours of in game grinding? In that type of scenario I would still consider it P2W.
Either way, I do not consider GW2 P2W.
No.
The moment they start selling actual statted max-level gear (which seems to be what you are suggesting?) in the gem-store is the moment they are making the game into a P2W.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the thing in store needs to be interesting to buy.
If they look exactly like something you can already get in game (for less gold no less) why would anyone bother buying it?
Did you completely forget about gem to gold conversion? You can literally buy full exotic gear in minutes with real life money. You can buy ascended weapon stats with real life money in the same manner as well.
The game is very active, there are more people playing now than at launch. Well worth coming back with all of the continuing improvements to the game and content patches every two weeks.
Here’s a great video that shows what changes you’ll see right away (applies to everyone)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce_dvXJercIAnd another video that highlights changes to WvW
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUfV3OBLyc8You can see the release splash pages here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/And here is a searchable patch notes:
http://gw2patchnotesearch.david-reess.de/Whoa there Nelly!! More people playing than at launch eh?
I sure would like to see a source for that one.
He’s always throwing out bs numbers when it comes to population.
Just a few months ago he claimed that you would have to be suffering from a delusional disorder if you didn’t believe that 2.5million people of 3 million sales are still active players logging in every week.
I don’t see it ever becoming popular enough.
Scarlet.
That doesn’t look like Felicia day… lol
T3 armor has always been available with a swipe of a card. The main problem that people have is that it is no longer exclusive to just humans.
So in other words, good by GW2 come Q1 2014. Oh well, had a good run and some potential.
Guess you haven’t played any of the other betas. The grass isn’t always greener. You think this forum is dark, you should see the stuff being said about ESO.
I find it rather interesting that you say that. I’ve been in several of their betas, including the most recent one and it appears to me that the vast majority are saying good things about it. That is including in game and forums. It definitely isn’t my cup of tea, but can see why people like it.
I’d look at the reddit thread. It’s literally being torn apart. And I’m not the only one saying this. But believe what you like. .
The ESO reddit page appears to be greatly positive. I don’t even see a single negative post on the entire first page. People are talking about withdrawals and fiending for more. Completely off topic, I just wanted to point out that I don’t agree with the " You think this forum is dark, you should see the stuff being said about ESO."

Are you doing it at resets?
Maybe they did this to distract us from the terrible taxi cab confession video? wait, maybe they did the taxi video to distract us from this…. Not sure which one is working.
Feels like Anet has been sold to EA
Or NCsoft.
Sales are dropping drastically every single quarter since launch and I wouldn’t be surprised if the armor sets are some of their biggest sellers. I don’t think they have a choice.
When I logged on today, the neck clipping issues with my female charr’s gas mask had been fixed. I’m really glad this issue was looked at. Thanks you guys!
(Now I’ll just have to show my thanks by purchasing the gem store armor people are upset about trolol)
What about the rest of your armor and weapons clipping?
Oh my gosh, this is so corny. I felt a little embarrassed watching that.
Someone at Arenanet a taxi cab confessions fan? lol
(edited by Fernling.1729)
They definitely need better entertainers to do the streams. The last one I tried to watch, the guy just kept say “umm” every couple seconds, which was rather annoying.
I don’t think it is, but it may be for me. ‘One’ little change recently smells ‘funny’ to me, and if it turns out it’s not a bug and doesn’t swing back to the way it’s supposed to be, I’m out.
I’m not keen on having values forced on me.
But in lieu of my feelings on ‘the one thing’, it’s a fantastic game and I think it’s doing just fine. I hope I get to stay.
What is this thing you are talking about?
I would be happy. They can just add infused slots to exotic gear.
Ouch, that does suck. It probably won’t happen, but I would still try to contact support about a possible refund.
I’ve spent a lot of time on the forum and this is the first time that I’ve seen this mistake happen. With that said, I highly doubt we will see this changed in the near future.
