This is likely the reason they didn’t want to separate people with solo queue, just not enough people playing.

I don’t think the PvE side should go F2P, but I do think that the PvP side should be. It is already set up very nicely for it too, with the lobby and all. They would just need to fluff up the cash shop a bit more.

If you’re reeeally desperate for 3 gold, you could always buy a few gem with real money and convert…

That is definitely an option. It’s at like 20g for 10usd right now.

Manifesto Clarification

Fernling.1729

First of all we’re talking MMOs, not single player games. And when this was made, there was no MMO that gave you a PERSONAL story.

Weird… its like that entire year I was playing Star Wars: The Old Republic before GW2 came out never happened. And I’m sure Bioware hadn’t been blathering about it for 5 years prior to that.

Star Wars was released 2011-2012 while the manifesto was released 2010.

The personal story in SWTOR was known about well before 2010.

People listing games that are “better” than GW2, many of them still playable, are here on the GW2 forums instead of playing those games.

I play several different mmos and spend an equal amount of time on each forum. I have 4 different tabs up now.

I think wow is much better than gw2, I am just burnt out on it. I think the world events are funner in rift, the story is better in swtor, eve has a better market and much better pvp (including large warfare that is leagues better than wvw) and dcuo is an overall funner game.
Gw2 is a solid game, it just might be too casual for me to get into like I have in past mmos.
Just my opinion and everyones will be different. I don’t think theres a way to say objectively which mmo is the best.

I think they should spawn less frequently, maybe just a couple times a day with a completely random timer. We are seeing these events much too often that they don’t feel grand at all. We should be excited to see them.

Not really. Work towards your desired cosmetic gear (currently fun for me). The dungeons get boring after running through them multiple times, and the DEs are the same every single time you run them.

I just though of something how many likes did other games that went F2P get on Facebook?

Swtor is something like 2.5 million.

Sure it’s still Star Wars though. That’s a major franchise. And it was EA with a HUGE advertising budget. I’m wondering how many of the 2.5 million where pre launch. lol

I kinda meant it as a joke. I don’t even think swtor hit 3 million in sales and managed to get closer to 2 million likes on facebook. I think that game had a lot of star wars fans like it, even though they weren’t playing the game.

Wait ppl still use facebook? I though it was all about twitter now or something else new.

Facebook has only continued to grow. It has over 1 billion users per month. Facebook is still the king in these parts.

Personally liked it when Myspace was the idiocy bucket for tomfoolery and Facebook was ‘kind of’ more professional. Now, Facebook has just mutated into a modern version of Myspace now that Myspace isn’t ‘popular’…but I guess that’s what linkedIn has been for.

I didn’t “like” GW2’s page simply because “liking” something on FB is, to me, like dropping my soap in a womens prison shower and bending to pick it up. You just know bad surprises are in store.

…w…w-what kind of surprises? I’m curious.

I was speechless when I saw an actual myspace commercial the other day. It was like they were trying to appeal to the hiphop individuals. I think there was like eminem and little wayne in it.

The game is more fun imo. If you like the game for story, gw1 does a much better job to entertain you.

Correction- server population is determined not by the number of accounts made on a server, but by the number of people currently playing. So if a server is full, then there are a good number of people populating it, but they tend to be concentrated elsewhere,

Two different Anet employees already said that it doesn’t work that way. It is based on the amount of accounts linked to the server.

Could I see these posts, out of curiosity? It contradicts what I’ve and others observed:

-On the busiest travel day of the year, I was watching the server list so my friend could transfer to TC. I saw server populations drop nearly across the board- Very High servers dropped to High, and High servers dropped to Medium. Only two servers stayed at Full, those being Jade Quarry and Tarnished Coast. It doesn’t rule out the possibility of a server cap increase, but with every cap increase, all Full servers drop to Very High and remain that way for several weeks.

-Several posters have said that they have seen Tarnished Coast fluctuate to Very High from Full at specific times of day- either noon or the dead of night. I myself have seen TC drop to Very High at 3 in the morning (again for a friend who wanted to transfer), and rise immediately back to Full in seconds. Since these times correlate with when people work or sleep, the most plausible explanation is that people are simply not playing, leaving vacancies on the server.

It doesn’t rule out other factors, but it’s just strange.

Heres the first time they said it. They clarified more the second time. I don’t have time to look for it now.

Hello Ive just bought the game because ive heard so many good things about it. Im currently lvl 20 now but throughout the whole time i was playing i havent seen a single person. The sever staus says its high population but I do see why when everywhere is a ghost town. Am i missing something?

Server status doesn’t indicate how many people linked their accounts to that server. A full server could be the least populated one at any given time.
The game has been out awhile, and a lot of people have leveled and stick around the zones they like. I would recommend that you join Tarnished Coast, as it is the most populated server on US that I have found. Mid level zones have people around. You won’t see a lot of people, but you will usually run into a person or two every few minutes.

Saying WoW is popular because it’s a good game or it has depth is like saying McDonalds is fine dining because it’s so successful.

I think for the majority of players play WoW because there just isn’t anything better out there for them.
If I could choose between eating Mcdonalds or The Cheesecake factory, where Mcdonalds is more expensive, I would choose The Cheesecake factory. At the same time, I would be willing to pay more for The Cheesecake factory than I would pay for Mcdonalds. In short, I wouldn’t be willing to pay more for crappy food if there was much better food for cheaper(no monthly sub-B2P etc), yet people still keep playing WoW.
Mcdonalds is popular because it’s cheap, not because it is good. Cheesecake factory is popular because it’s good, not because it’s cheap.
Maybe WoW is just really the best for the majority?
This isn’t me, but mmo players in general.
I know it isn’t this simple and there are countless other things to consider. Not even sure this makes sense, it made sense in my head before I started writing it.
Gave me a headache trying to read back to myself hehe.

McDonalds isn’t the cheapest best food either. But it has lots of money to advertise. Never underestimate the effect of advertising.

I could see that. There is this little mexican fast food place here in my little town that is 10x better than tacobell, yet tacobell is always getting 10x the amount of business.
It seems that ncsoft/anet would put a hefty amount of work into advertising if they would be rewarded with a larger playerbase. Maybe, they figured it wouldn’t be worth the cost, idk.

GW2 (Launch) = A
Solid and innovative, best MMO since WoW

GW2 (Now) = C-
Substandard cash shop MMO with RNG and poorly designed mini-games.

WoW succeeded because it continued to add features and fix bugs. GW2 seems more interested in farming players pockets.

Care to explain what changed? The same innovation is there, the game is still solid so what changed?

For me, the living story just isn’t doing it. The click “f” content is very lazy and seems to be the only content that takes time. I don’t like the mini games , so I am missing out on content. I have done all the jps that are released, but they take 20mins each and I don’t find them fun to repeat. I’ve done all the mini games, they just don’t feel solid, enough for me. I would be better to load up an emulator and play a much more solid console game.
I am looking forward to their “raids” though. Im also curious of this big team they have working on permanent content. Maybe a new landmass/new profession in the next few months.
Living story is working for some, but hasn’t been worth more than a few hours to me.

What’s to discuss? Nothing.

What they were thinking when they give some people a boost of 500 points from something they did in a totally different game, perhaps?
This is like saying “Hey you guys won the football tournament last year so you get to start with 1 goal every match” .
Unacceptable in my eyes, thats why i want to see their point of view…

Maybe they really appreciate GW1 players making GW2 possible and want to reward them with what they feel is an appropriate reward.
