For the same reason that we have dailies and WoW has dailies and dungeon lockouts. Lazy design that keeps people logging in.
I played the game for 5+ years and ended with 38 points. Some of the titles are beyond crazy.
CoF path 1 is pretty much the only thing right now. Farming spots show up and then get nerfed.
I don’t wanna play gw1, but by logging in they seem to be getting free things.
Anything from the HoM was given to people that played gw1.
Yep, just have to play gw1. It takes awhile, but is fun.
I’m glad you’re back! However, I simply don’t understand how the social aspect turned you away from GW, but kept you in WoW…?
I havent been in a guild in 6 months and my friends list is empty. My real id is almost full in wow and have almost always been in a guild. Idk, but wow seems much more social to me. Might be that I can do all pve in gw2 without ever talking.
If the GW1 achievement points didn’t count to the leaderboard it would solve everything.
I think dailies/monthly would have to be removed too.
it is like HoM if you look at summary page of achi panel you’ll see “Unlocked Rewards” window and under it “Withdraw” you can take as many copies as you wish
When is this suppose to happen? Its not like that for me right now.
nvm it worked

It’s hard to look at the leaderboard as being competitive because it is all time based. Congratulations, you play 16 hours a day. It is not skill based at all, it just shows who has the most time available. Of course, there is a bit of other things involved, like who can optimize their time best, but that can easily be overridden by others with more time.
I’m inclined to believe a very small amount of people actually have a problem with it. Like everything, people will complain. I think it would be worse if they removed them now.
Besides, anet wants people to want more achievement points. It keeps them logging in everyday.
I’m not a fan of the updates that we receive, but collin did say something about them having much more than the living story in the works. He even said that the living story teams are a small portion of the people working on gw2.
I don’t have a problem with them. I don’t look at the achievement points being any kind of competition though. I could care less how many people have.
Achievement points don’t offer an advantage, pretty much cosmetic. I don’t see a problem with this. I am a former gw1 player, so I might be a bit bias though.
I play only by myself at this point. Everyone I know quit the game shortly after launch. I’ve tried joining guilds, they either died or were full of very immature people.
I’ve played a lot of mmos, so the controls are very easy for me. If anything it is easier than most because of so few keybinds.
PTR should have been in this game at release. Every single update has numerous bugs that would not have been there if we had a ptr.

is there a way to “speed level”?
the lack of ANYBODY leveling up(at least from what i’ve seen) is disheartening :/
Crafting, it costs a bit of gold though.
I would recommend guesting to Tarnished Coast and leveling through the human zones. Once you get to midlevel zones, you will definitely notice that there isn’t many people around, but you can usually ask in map chat for someone to level with you.
I play on TC because it is the most populated server I could find
Facebook likes.
I think they were possibly rushed to get it finished. It does seem that everyone agrees that it is pretty awful though.
I trust xfire a little more;
Gw2 ranks 8th out of all games, and 2nd next to WoW.
But tbh, I believe Gw2 is in better state overall than WoW and Im not going back to that clunky game after having dodge, though I do admit i CRAZY MISS being a healer.
Xfire isn’t supported by anybody anymore. Twitch is the new one stream site. Even Anet uses twitch for their streams, they don’t use xfire at all.
It’s actually pretty funny when it comes to the cash shop. Most people were worried about it being p2w, but here we are asking for more things to be added to it. I think they are getting along fine with their gold for cash.
You are completely mistaken. I am talking about cosmetic stuff, NOT power-boosting items.
I am too talking about cosmetics.
We dont have enough things being sold in the store.

They tend to remove items from the gem store after an arbitrary amount of time. This tends to lend those items immediacy and increase the need or desire for them “right now”.
It’s a marketing tactic that resonates with a large part of the player base. Makes them feel “special”.
Well, do items sometimes reappear in the store later on, or is it written in stone that they appear once and then they’re gone forever?
The ones that are removed are labeled as being temporarily available in the cash shop. It is implied that they will not be returning.
I don’t like the living story updates so far. Too little content and too much grind for my liking. Expansions are nice because the type of stuff that is usually released with them.
Im closer to 400 hours and ive only had one exotic drop.
I don’t think the game is nearly popular enough for its own convention. Maybe an ncsoft convention, especially with the upcoming wildstar to add to their list.
It’s in my top 5 mmos of all time. It doesn’t come anywhere close to best game in my book though.
I think the option for hardmode would be great. Of course, the specifics would have to be sorted out.
I don’t care for them.
they fixed a bug.
why are some people angry over a bug fix?
There is a difference between a bug and a mistake in programming, although in this case it doesn’t make a difference. I’m thinking it wasn’t a bug, but Anet realizing that it was just too much for something that could be done repeatedly by one person. That’s okay though, imo it makes sense.
They did say “bug”, which is still unlikely for something like this. I guess its better than them saying “we made a mistake”.
We’ve seen many things like this in the past too, many resulting in permanent bans. Hopefully nobody was banned by what would surely have been labeled an exploit.Actually there is exactly no difference between a mistake in the code and a bug. Having a typo or incorrect value in the vendor price of an item is still just a mistake in the code causing unintended results which is by definition a bug.
This particular issue was huge and needed to be fixed quickly before it had a serious effect on the economy. A free 3s, assuming you want to sell it, is more than enough reward to go along with the other chests in the puzzle. It wasn’t meant to be an easy way to get more money for everyone to do, so some of you need to change your perspective.
Yes, a mistake in the code is a typical cause of bugs. I was saying that they put exactly what they wanted in code, the mistake was their decision to let them sell for that much.
How do you know they meant 60s? How do you know that isn’t a typo? My whole point is without them telling us we have no way of knowing what they intended.
That’s why I said “I think”.

They are actively working on completely correcting the culling issues in PvE. I believe they said it is a high priority too, so we should be seeing it soon.

i think it is a honest mistake.
just take a look at the current vendor selling prices for exotic armor pieces.
well Arena Net is certainly not strangers to price goofs
yes, i still remember during launch week, hoelbrak tier 2 level 60 rare weapons can be bought for 21 karma per weapon.
they banned a lot of people back then.
I agree 100% it was an honest mistake. They have nothing to gain from it. Really, it will hurt them if anything.

people do the jumping puzzles for loot?
Rng sucks in this game, people are desperate lol.
That is just crazy. Well, you have my account name. If you want to help me get t3 cultural armor, feel free to help out.
Let’s be fair, though. That was a pretty good reward for the end chest, considering it was NOT random to get it.
Add in the fact that there are three other chests in the puzzle, and maybe that was a bit much?
Not really, I could run a couple meta events and make more than 60 silver. The fact that it isn’t a unique skin and isn’t worth anything to a vendor, makes the reward pointless. Maybe, it would be better to remove the material rewards from things like this. People that find it fun or want a few achievement points could still do it.
I guess we would have people complaining about no rewards though.
I’m sorry Anet, you just can’t please everyone.
Dang, I still have mine in my inv.
Now they just need to add mounts.
If its profitable, they will. I don’t mind either. If done right, mounts could be awesome. I don’t want anything like WoW has though. I just want something to collect.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
I want Isaiah Cartwright as a Mini please
I could imagine a little michelin man running around.
Unfortunately the new JP is so FULL of people making it harder to complete. It’s anyone’s guess where all these people have been “hiding” all this time :P
I’m surprised that I wasn’t thrown into overflow on TC.
Aren’t there currently ascended items that you can only get by one playstyle/activity in ge?
Nope, there is currently not a single piece that can only be obtained by doing one activity. (Or well, one might argue that Back items might require Fractals since the only other item that can be Ascended without Fractal stuff can no longer be obtained).
But other than everything is obtainable in several different ways. And they are quite clearly working on making stuff obtainable in more ways.
Well, the back piece is exactly what I was thinking of. I dont currently have the backpiece. If I was to log into the game right now, I would only have one way to earn it, right? I personally don’t care as I dont want ascended gear, but that alone makes me think thakittens wrong to assume all future ascended gear will have multiple channels to obtain said gear. The karka backpiece was a pretty recent addition into the game. Did they deciee between then and now that they want to have more than one way of earning each piece of gear, or did they say that before the karka event?
I think the ele or eng would be my answer to this question.
Raids are coming to GW2…
Ascended armour/weapons are planned at some point during 2013…
Join the dots…
I can see the rewards for raids being a new form of token which when you have enough you exchange for ascended armour/weapons…the reward for raids has to be something very, very good so it makes sense.
Why?
Rewards from the dungeons are not better than rewards from the open world.IF they add ascended armor and weapons to the raids it is extremely unlikely that they won’t add other ways to get it as well (such as Laurels/WvW/Crafting).
Aren’t there currently ascended items that you can only get by one playstyle/activity in ge?
It hovers around 6-8 in the Top 10 on xfire. Below World of Warcraft, but ahead of SWTOR.
It’s on a par with Minecraft, World of Tanks, and DOTA2, in terms of hours played. Which is a good place to be.
Xfire is hardly used by anyone anymore. Twitch is the better one to use for any comparisons, even Anet uses twitch.
There are still people playing, but it sure seems like people are leaving at a high rate. A handful of my rl friends and family hasn’t picked up the game in 6 months and I’ve witnessed a couple large guilds up and quit after kittening about the game not being fun to them, mostly endgame related. The game will likely continue to drop players until it the only active players fit into the games niche. That might be 50k or even as high as 750k. The great thing is that it is B2P, so people will always be coming back after extended breaks to check things out.
Twitch averages-ish:
Daytime america
LoL 50k+ viewers
SC2 15k+
Dota2 15k+
Wow 15k+
Minecraft 10k+
Runescape 2k+
These aren’t peak numbers either. These could easily double or triple.
Gw2 on average has 200-400 viewers, which is on the same level as swtor and tera.
I know that twitch isn’t a good indicator of active population, but the difference of wow with 8 mil active players having as much as 60 times more viewers on average could say that the active population in gw2 is around 200k.
Eve sits at about 500k active subs and usually has 2-3x more viewers than gw2, so it is kind of in the ballpark.
I know none of this is accurate, as there is tins of other deciding factors, but do think its the best guesstimate I could give.
sorry if its sloppy, wrote all of this on phone.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
As others said, that is the unofficial SPvP server.
The game has failed to entertain me as much as GW1, wow and Eve have. It doesn’t have that long lasting appeal many other mmos have given me.
Overall the game didn’t meet my high expectations, but was definitely worth the $60, even though everyone I know stopped playing shortly after launch. I couldn’t imagine myself putting many more hours into the game (350 now), as I’ve done just about everything in game and I’m getting really bored of doing the same events over and over again.
I guess fun pve with fun pvp is needed to keep me interested, unfortunately pvp in gw2 is possibly the worst I have played. I think the game is very niche and will always have a good sized community that loves it to death though.
Posted from phone, so is a bit sloppy.
