Should ANet change the Floppy Fish?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fernling.1729

Fernling.1729

The gasping like it’s “suffocating” is what I find disturbing. I know it’s not real, but watching a seemingly tortuous death that mimics something all too real made me feel uneasy. Take away the gasping look and just have it flopping around would make take away the majority of my negative feelings towards it.

I actually haven’t been playing the game for quite some time now and never saw the fish in a video or anything until this thread. Not sure I would have noticed if nobody brought it up.

They should be releasing the legendary weapons without additional funding. We already paid for HoT, we shouldn’t have to pay more for something that was advertised as being included.

Pre-order next expansion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fernling.1729

Fernling.1729

No. If I’m still playing then I’m still going to want to access the new areas and content, and I might as well get the prebuying goodies.

At any relate, they never said how many Legendaries would be in this expansion.
“We’ve been working hard on new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates.”

Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns heralds the beginning of the first new set of legendary weapons to be added to the game since its original set of twenty included in the launch of Guild Wars 2. The first three we’ll release are a celestially themed axe called Astralaria, an experimental energy themed pistol called H.O.P.E., and a raven spirit themed staff called Nevermore. It takes a lot of work to craft these legendary journeys for release, so rather than take the time to develop the full set before releasing any of them, we will be releasing new legendary weapons in small groups at regular intervals until the full set of sixteen has been added to the game. Collections for the existing legendary weapons will be available on launch day, while the first three new legendaries will become available shortly after launch, alongside raids.

I was definitely under the impression that 16 new legendaries would be released at regular intervals following HoT.

I will never own a legendary weapon, but still find this news troublesome. They talk about having 70 employees working on the next expansion, yet here they are indefinitely suspending work on content advertised in the current paid expansion to have those employees work on something different. Sounds like they should have taken employees from a different team.

Third, as somewhere else stated:

Even when using a PRNG you can draw the numbers from a common pool for all players at the server. This is totally unpredictable since it also incorporates the reaction patterns of players as well as network latencies.

So, no, true random is possible.

You got me there. Never heard of using hardware to generate the numbers. Interesting stuff.

Why did they call this game "casual "

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fernling.1729

Fernling.1729

The fact that I can take lengthy breaks from the game and come back and still play every single one of my characters in almost every part of the game is why I think the game is extremely casual friendly. Being able to jump in on any of them and just play without having to worry about obtaining the next tier of gear that was released while I was away is HUGE.
Sure there are grindy aspects to the game, but those don’t stop me from enjoying 99% of the things I do.

I don’t think it’s the overall best, but could easily make the top 5 or so. It is definitely the best for me when I just want to run around and do things without paying much attention though.
No complex dps rotations and easy open world makes this one of the easiest to jump in and play without any stress.

I just took a break and I’m back enjoying the game again. I think I just played too much when the expansion released. I started playing FF14 which was really fun for a bit, but I don’t think the game is for me. Needless to say I’m already logging back into Gw2.

In hindsight I probably shouldn’t have spent so much time focusing on unlocking elite specializations. It took away from enjoying the expansion as much as I could have been.

Visual nerfs [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fernling.1729

Fernling.1729

Visual effect nerfs is something myself and many other players have been asking for since the game’s release. I stick by wanting the effects lessened. I do think a slider would be make things just peachy.

If I had to choose between nerfs or no nerfs without a slider, I would choose the nerfs. World bosses(and sometimes even 5 man bosses) just had too many effects to see the tell of certain attacks.

These “nerfs” haven’t done jack kitten in reducing the so called “visual noise” (I am so sick of that term). Impact particles that scale up are what prevents one from seeing mobs and bosses, and those haven’t been touched. And tell me, how much clutter did the old version of auras cause?
Nothing has been improved for anyone with these nerfs.

I actually haven’t played enough lately to know if the changes helped out or not. I am just assuming they did. I simply saw that they toned down some effects and thought that was great and hopefully it made a difference. If they are toning down things that aren’t the problem, then that’s a problem in itself.

Probably should understand what everyone is talking about before I chime in.

Uh, you may have noticed that I didn’t say persistent was part of the term; I said it was one of the features.

From Wikipedia: A massively multiplayer online game (MMOG or MMO) is a video game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players simultaneously in the same instance (or world). By necessity, they are played over a network, such as the Internet.1 MMOs usually have at least one persistent world, however some games differ.

WoW offers many amenities for that sub cost that GW2 doesn’t. Things like free hair/face changes, 50 character slots on as many different servers as you want. Every single armor/weapon set is released through the game. There are a lot of things offered in sub games that b2p and f2p games don’t offer.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Fernling.1729

Fernling.1729

The story is great, the zones are beautiful and fun to play. So far I am enjoying the expansion.
My only real issues are with the grinding/gating(and low pop zones). I can deal with obtaining hero points for a character or two, but after that it is going to destroy any desire I have to continue “progressing” my characters. I just can’t help but feel that this is extremely alt unfriendly. The “progression” should not have been with the elite specs like this.
It’s unfortunate that a good expansion is getting so much negative feedback ingame and out because of this.
I’m not sure how I would fix this. Masteries are fine because they are account bound. I guess drastically reducing hero points needed to get all skills/traits would be okay.

I’ve been spending my time finishing up LS2 on my ranger, so can’t make a fair judgement on the mastery system, but from the get-go I thought it looked bad. It looked like a way to slow me down before I got to the fun. I understand that they want us to get as many hours as possible out of the expansion. If they can prevent us players from competing all the new content in the first couple months it will be for the best.
I think it’s possible that I will warm up to it though. It’s definitely not a big deal for me.

Does this mean that come HoT, my toons can just do Hero challenges in Maguuma jungle to be able to use the elite spec, or do I need to go do all the other HP in the rest of the world and the ones in Maguuma just to be able to use the elite spec?
