Elite specializations, revenant and continuation of the story was enough for me to prepurchase.
I don’t think so, but I’m not entirely sure.
Looks like tier 3 norn medium armor.

This game has pve?
It’s the best part of the game.
I play PvE because it’s easy, I can watch a movie and play without having to concentrate on the game. I play PvE because the PvP is terrible.
GW2 is currently the game I play to just relax. I play other games more seriously. I would love for this to change, but the game hasn’t really offered anything that allows someone to take it “seriously”. I’m really hoping HoT changes that.

I entered this thread thinking you were talking about the game world. I would love to see the world seamless, not too concerned about the armor. haha

I greatly prefer subscription fees. In GW2 I don’t feel like I’m ever earning skins etc through a meaningful or interesting way. Everything seems to revolve around gold, which puts me in a spot where I have to grind or pay real money.
In WoW you get 50 character slots, free face/hair/color change as much as you want, there has never been a weapon skin released in the cash shop. 99.8% of the minis and mounts are released in game. The list of pros just greatly outweighs the negatives for me.
All in all I just prefer to pay a few bucks a month and never have to worry about the constant reminder of buying from the cash shop. Even spending $13 a month in GW2 would never give me enough convenience to compare to some sub games. i mean, just buying character slots in GW2 to match those in WoW would pay for nearly 3 years in subscription fees.
I definitely see the F2P/b2p appeal for the people that can’t afford or don’t want to pay a monthly sub though. I don’t even think GW2 would be doing half as well as it is now if they had a sub because of how many people are opposed to it. If anything I think an optional sub that gives all conveniences/skins etc would be pretty awesome.
I just feel like the offhand options are already decent while we have pretty bad main hand weapons. I am still looking forward to changing things up, but wish it was the mainhand.
Nobody has ever said it has anything to do with spammer, gold seller etc. They have came out and said that it’s a technical limitation.

I really wanted something to complain about and Revenant gave me a reason to do just that. Now you are releasing information like this… Guess I’ll find something else to complain about.
I’m really looking forward to testing it out again. Maybe this weekend?

Automatic refund? You didn’t ask for it? That’s really stupid then. I bought my 2nd acc in that period and I do not want any refunds and I never intended to upgrade that acc to HoT anytime soon…
I didn’t ask for it.
According to GM Seawyrm:
“For all players who purchased the Guild Wars 2 core game from our website and registered it between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015 in anticipation of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we will automatically refund what you paid for the core game should you decide to pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our website or in-game store…”
Sounds to me like you can keep the core game and continue to play it if you want to, but if you do decide to purchase the expansion they will refund your original purchase price of the core game that was bought in between Jan 23-jun 16. The automatic part only happens if you pre-purchase the expansion.

Wait, so everyone that bought the game between January 23 and June 16 are being forced to buy the expansion if they want to continue playing GW2, including the core game?
That’s some super sketchy stuff if true.

I really like Queensdale, which works out nicely because I enjoy playing human characters. I haven’t properly played through norn, asura or charr starter zones, so I couldn’t really comment on those. I really enjoy the sylvari starter zone as well.
This is the reason I play GW2 alongside multiple other games. I’m almost always subscribed to at least 2 other games(usually Eve and WoW) and play GW2 a couple hours a week.
I’m at the point where I can grind achievements/skins/ascended or replay the same content for the 100th time. I find it better to just not play as much until new content is introduced.
I prefer the trinity, but I’m okay with it not being here. GW2 is all about dps, and couldn’t imagine them changing that.
Any updates on this? I’m having the same issue.
So apparently everytime someone puts on a hat, our hair completely disappears, this really just makes players not want to wear said hats, for example, the ringmasters hat is cool, but my asura loses his great hair when i put it on, i’m sure this isn’t that difficult to do so the hair stays where the hat doesn’t touch or something?
The “it’s not that difficult” comment… have you ever tried to do it? Have you ever seen it done well in some game, namely one with this game’s level of graphics?
If I’m not mistaken, FF14 doesn’t have this issue and the graphics there are much higher than GW2.
I did bought my gw2 with like 6-7 other friends when it launched, but they all quit after hitting 80 and now im the only one left. So yea guess their total sales doesnt mean much lol
I’m in a similar boat. I knew people that started towards the beginning but stopped shortly after they started. Had an older brother try the game a couple months ago and he gave up on it after a week. I had a friends list with some decent people I met in game, but I’ve never seen a single one of them on again.
I know some people that post here put a lot of merit into this site.

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that runescape has more players than even ff14. Runescape still has a massive amount of players.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
Heavy armor still has it better than medium. I can at least find a couple different combinations of heavy that look good.
I would rather see my thief wielding a staff. I’m not a fan of firearms in this type of fantasy. Even in WoW I always opted to use a bow over the rifles.
If you think scrolls are bad, just wait until HoT. Guild missions only. Let’s hope they actually scale now. Considering ArenaNet basically told smaller guilds to PuG for guild halls however, I’ll assume small guilds are dead.
And yes, I know in lore, Destiny’s Edge was five people, but in reality, the Guild Wars, for which the series of named, was about large guilds, who went to war.
The guilds banded together and went to war. Every guild doesn’t have to be large, nor do they even have to be combat guilds. Traders, banks and cooks for example were some of them.
A guild can be anything, from a few elites to a mass of casuals. Sure, you can say one isn’t a valid guild, but it’s not right. A guild is nothing more than a house. It doesn’t matter how many people live in it, it’s still a home.
Terrible example. First of all, the guild of traders probably didn’t go to war. The guilds that went to war were probably adventurers. And in fact, guilds in Guild Wars 1 seemed to imply guilds of adventurers. Keep in mind there were no crafting professions in Guild Wars 1, where this lore comes from. At all.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fraternal_Order_of_Bakers_and_Brewers
Players couldn’t learn crafting professions, but they were there.

I’m just waiting on any information when it comes to the challenging content. They could simply tell me if it’s instanced or not and I would be happy.
Games like WoW went back and made it possible to fly in older zones that were previously not possible. I don’t see why they couldn’t do the same here.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t add flying sometime, but not until after the expansion as they’ve already said they have they are busy with what they have still to do. After the expansion though is a possibility.
Maybe they want to wait and make sure it is well received before putting a bunch of time into integrating it into old zones. I think that would be the smart thing to do.

I think one of the most important things is for it to be instanced.
I have 6 characters, each profession besides engineer and necromancer. Those 6 are all level 80.
The fact that 99% of the games content c-an be beaten by auto attacking really sucks. It is a huge waste of potential. GW2 has a good story, good combat, great art…etc, but is being held back by the casual content.
At the same time, I think GW2 has to cater to the casual gamers in order to stay successful. I just wish they would give a little more to the other players.
Failure? How exactly is failure defined these days? Of course, I haven’t seen anything recent, however this:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/10/guild-wars-2-sales-more-than-double-thanks-to-chinese-launch
“Guild Wars 2 has over 3.8 million Chinese players according to a census uploaded to Reddit, all accrued in just two months after launch.
This means ArenaNet’s MMO has more than doubled its global playerbase since launching in the new territory. The last update we got on Western sales was back in August 2013, when the figure stood at 3.5 million. This figure is likely to have risen since then but, even if we assume it hasn’t, this means global sales of Guild Wars 2 should now be well past the 7 million mark."
You do realise that the link you provide is a year old. That’s not exactly recent news. I wouldn’t put much stock in that for the status today… clearly it’s odd there is basically no news since then if you do a quick search on the internet. It’s all from a year ago on this topic. I find that at least unusual.
It’s not like ANet didn’t go an extended period of time before announcing numbers here in the U.S. either. Some 3.8 million sales out of the gate in China isn’t exactly a failure.
https://twitter.com/guildwars2/status/487745928137154560
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2agzhp/gw2_china_sales_numbers_are_not_accurate/
The numbers weren’t official, they came from chinese fan sites.
The numbers could have been estimating characters created, not accounts. The number could be as low as 20% of that amount.
Buy gems and convert it to gold, send me the gold. If you do that you would have been a great person twice. Think about it; it’s genius.
Or he could send half to you and half to myself. Three times great!
Please don’t get me wrong. I am definitely a gay rights supporter, as I am a supporter of any minority rights. But it confuzzles the bejezzes out of me when people are saying “we need to fight in order to be considered and accepted like a normal person, like everybody else” and on the other hand they’re like “we need something that would show that we are different than everybody else”.
This is pretty much how I feel about it as well.
Cause people may want to wait to know more detail the content of the extension before buying?
Which is legitimate, which is why pre-purchase lasts up until launch.
What’s wrong with holding off and waiting for reviews of the expansion post launch? That sounds like something a smart buyer would do. I couldn’t tell you how many games I have bought without waiting for reviews that looked good but turned out to be crap.
Absoltuely nothing wrong with that at all. But, the idea behind a pre-purchase bonus is to tempt people to order early. Plus with beta weekends due, I expect to see reviews earlier than launch, in the same way they were with the core game.
The point in hand is whether it is scandalous or shocking. It isn’t at all. It’s expected practice for an mmo or in fact many games to offer something like this exclusive to a pre-purchase.
I guess I was talking about “Why wouldn’t veteran or loyal players pre-purchase. Surely that’s what veteran and loyal players would be doing by their very nature.”.
Just because you’re a veteran or loyal player doesn’t mean you will throw your money at them without knowing what you will be receiving. If this is a veteran bonus it should be available to veterans whether they prepurchase or make a smart decision and wait for reviews. It instead turned into an incentive to prepurchase and seemingly has nothing to do with helping veterans.
This comes back to how one defines a veteran. Age? Playtime? Does a player who bought at launch, played for 6 months and came back 2 months ago count?
A pre-purchase campaign, a marketing campaign and sales figures can’t make such a distinction.
“Veteran Player Appreciation
For our long-standing fans and loyal players, we would like to say thank you and show our appreciation. For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account. The process of delivering your additional character slot will take us some time, but rest assured we will get it to you as soon as possible. We’ll provide more details about the specific timing soon."
It seems to me that they consider anyone that bought the game before January 23rd, 2015 and pre-purchases the game without waiting for more information/reviews to be a veteran player.
I do believe that if they really want to show their “veteran” players appreciation like they say they do, they should allow them to be smart consumers and wait until post launch to make sure the expansion is worth their money. Forcing them to pre-purchase a game without knowing all the content(this part will likely change before launch) and knowing if the content is good enough to pay $50 in order to receive the veteran bonus is silly.
It doesn’t matter to me, really. I am going to pre-purchase the expansion for the bonuses anyways. I definitely see where the concerns come from, especially from those that have trouble paying $50. It just feels like Anet is throwing around this veteran crap in order to boost their prelaunch sales. It has nothing to do with them actually appreciating the “veteran” players.

My only concern is that Anet forced me to spend a lot of hero points on specializations that I never would have used and I could have saved those points to go towards unlocking the elite specializations instead.
From what I know they haven’t really gone into detail other than there will be an unlock track reward for the elite specializations. If we need to use hero points on top of that hasn’t been mentioned. If that’s the case, I will be slightly unhappy about this.
If I don’t have to worry about the hero points being used for elite specializations I will be overall happy with the new trait system and would like it to stay the way it is now.

I would really like a place to read and talk about the Revenant profession. At one point there were some threads in this subforum, but with the search broken I can’t find anything. I would really like a place to discuss it before the profession actually launches.
If anyone knows of a megathread or anything that heavily discusses builds etc.. please feel free to link it.
All the cities are boring for me. What would I do in a city that would make them fun? Stand around and roleplay? I do think the new Lion’s arch is really pretty though.
I’m enjoying the new system so far. I’ve played enough that things were getting stale and having things changed up like this is really nice.
I’m a fan of the new lion’s arch. It really doesn’t feel like Lion’s arch to me, but that’s okay.
What profession are you playing around with?
WoW is doing it. If you own the core game of WoW and buy the current expansion, you get every expansion of WoW made between for free.
Super nitpicky and doesn’t really change anything, but that’s not exactly how it works.
WoW sells the “base” game, which includes WoW vanilla, BC, Wotlk, cata and MoP for $19.99. You do not have to buy WoD to get the previous expansions. Vanilla WoW and all but the the most recent expansion are sold in a bundle.
I don’t understand why people weren’t all up in arms when GW2 was offered for $10. I mean as a veteran myself I spent $60 and these new people only have to spend $10! I had to waste my precious hours running through the ToN and fighting the marionette. New players are so lucky they don’t have to experience all that content.
My thousand hours played counts for nothing, maybe I should delete my account and start over and get the exact same deal new players are getting.
We as veteran players should be happy that the barrier to entry is lower for new players. When is more people a bad thing in a game like Guild wars 2.

Not only am I enjoying the specialization changes, but I’m enjoying the ascended change, NPE changes, condition changes and much more. This is a pretty good patch.
But why? I have one of every class already on my account… having another on top of the one means I’ll have a slot for a pointless char…
Seems a bit, Meh to be honest, like they don’t think about these things.
They can’t please everyone at all times. Someone will always get the short end of the stick, in this case it’s you.
I think that’s the point. This is an extremely casual mmorpg, off the top of my head I can’t think of another that comes close to this. The main content in GW2 is so easy that you can spam your way to victory.
I worked on map completion while holding my newborn daughter and was able to do it with one hand. I would literally walk with the mouse and when I approached the enemies I would move the cursor over to the skills and click on them. I’m not even sure I ever died once. This is the main meat of the game and I can do it with one hand.
Most mmorpgs are casual and this is one the most casual of them all. I have a strong feeling that the majority of players want simplicity and need to be guided into working builds. I seem to remember Anet talking about how some players never even allocated their trait points.
I think that’s one of the reasons I like the game too. It’s just a nice game to relax and do stuff. I don’t have the stress of competition, difficulty or complexity. I just run around doing stuff. I can play sub optimal builds because I find them fun, not because they are the best. The best isn’t needed for many things in the game.

So a group with better players outperforms a group with players who don’t know what they are doing? Wow, more news at 11.
Thank you for proving a point. kitten yo zerks. I play what I want and when I want. It’s boring as hell. Player skill > zerks or any other meta for that matter.
a player with skill + berserker > a player with skill + bad gear
I believe they would have charged $50 for the expansion with or without the base game being included.
I don’t think Anet should be praised for this. They could have proactively offered this, but no, only when suffering backlash do they make changes. They refused to listen to the people months ago about including a character slot. They are only now including one as damage control.
Come on man put the pitchfork down already; even I changed my tune.
No pitchfork here. I just don’t think Anet should be put on a pedestal for fixing something that should never have been a problem in the first place.
I really do appreciate that they are willing to make changes based on customer feedback, I just don’t like the extent the playerbase has to take it to actually make it happen.
People were warning/begging/asking Anet months and months ago about adding a character slot to the expansion. If they really wanted to listen they probably should have done it then. Not when they see bad press and go into damage control. At this point they’re only doing it because it’s in their best interest.
I was going to buy the expansion either way. I’m too excited for some of the stuff to not buy it.

I still don’t think the expansion has enough to warrant that price. I hope there is a lot more to it than what we’ve seen.
It’s nice that they are including a character though.I could be wrong, but don’t a lot of the huge changes we are getting Tusday sorta count for this expansion as they did not want to gate off the players like that, and on top, any free update we get after the expansion that may add to it like it was done in the core game, will add to the value as well?
I don’t have to purchase the expansion to gain access to those changes, I would say no, they don’t count. I’ve bought gems one more than one occasion in the last couple of weeks, I like to think that helps with the updates.
Free updates after the expansion is again what I think my gem purchases go to. I don’t count WoW’s patch 6.2 as part of my WoD purchase(although I need it to play it), I think my monthly sub pays for that.
Okay, so, to be clear…if we wait until after release to purchase HoT, we don’t get a character slot? The character slot is only a pre-order bonus?
“For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account.”
