Only Anet could have made SPvP successful. At this point, it is years too late. SPvP was bleeding out for a long time and it is now dead.
Anyone thinking Stronghold or anything else HoT brings will revive SPvP are delusional. They can’t even figure out a proper leaderboard.

I’m really excited for the Dragon Hunter. I’m not really looking forward to the masteries or anything, as I will feel the need to grind them out, but I think I can get over that.

I crafted my characters to level 80. I usually don’t have gold, so spent cash to level some of mine. Cash=quick leveling

What if Silverwastes had been an expansion?

Fernling.1729

Given ANet’s track record with expansions, I can only assume that HoT will be tiny and have very little content.

Based on which Expansions?

He is likely talking about “More than an expansions worth of content.” If they truly believe what they released during that time was more than an expansions worth of content, we are in for a pretty small sized expansion.

I just hope the new zones in HoT are nothing like Silverwastes/drytop. They are easily my least favorite zones in the entire game. I have a feeling they are going to be like them though.

Meta's and exploits are killing this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fernling.1729

The meta is becoming less and less necessary for me as I spend all my time in the open world. Just the other day I made a terrible short bow trap ranger build that was so far from being the best, but was having a blast playing it. Most of that is due to me being excited for the dragon hunter.

Every single one of my characters are humans. Female humans to be exact. I don’t put much into the story of my characters or anything. I just find that the armor and animations are the best on the human females. I would have chosen a male, but they are just too bulky for my liking.

I wonder if OP could post the source of his claim that the current active Chinese players is less than 50k. That’s quite a drop from a year ago of 3.8 million.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=851365

Anet already said that this information is false. The numbers presented were characters created, not accounts.
This has been discussed countless times on these forums and others.

I like to play the human characters in GW2. I play female humans because okittenward animations and overall unrealistic bulkiness that the male humans possess. I would play males if they didn’t look like Garen.

So, I’m looking forward to this specialization. But for those of you who don’t want to use a bow or act as a “hunter” on your Guardian, there is good news for you as well: You don’t have to play it! Conveniently, Arenanet made this thing called specializations that are totally optional. You can choose to play the specialization or choose from the other dozens of build options already in existence for your Guardian.

A lot of us were hoping to have a new interesting way to play our guardians. I guess we will continue to play the same way we’ve been playing for the last 2 1/2 years.

How about a thread where I suggest dynamics events and PvE content in sPvP? Why should I be locked out of PvP from lack of PvE content in there. Why can’t they put nodes in the map for me to harvest while remaining green to all others. Maybe they could add repeatable hearts on the PvP maps. It’s only fair, if PvP gets put into PvE.

If they did that, there would be a lot of PvE people going on to those maps.

PvP(WvW and SPvP) has PvE content in them. It has from the start.

So how will your dueling effect dynamic events? I want dueling but there are problems beyond your “I want it so it’s kewl” arguments.

Oh of course, the dynamic events.

..What?

I don’t see how it would effect dynamic events. What relevance does it have on dynamic events?

There is the flaw in your thinking only about what you want. Scaling up dynamic events when you will not be participating in said event. That is what I was talking about. As I said I want open world dueling but there are plenty of reasons why it is not in this game.

According to the developers it’s because it’s not a priority right now. A developer over in the PvP forums previously said that they want to add open world dueling to the game, it’s just not the highest on their list of priorities. If I remember correctly, Colin said something like “we absolutely want to add dueling to the game in the future.” in an interview as well.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Time gating is something most, if not all mmorpgs do. There’s no way a themepark mmo like GW2 could keep people entertained without implementing some time gates throughout the game. I don’t think GW2 is any worse than other mmos out there.

I’m currently subbed to 2 games, only one of those I am playing daily. I have no problem paying a sub if I find the game worth it.
I couldn’t imagine paying a sub to GW2 because I just don’t have enough things to do in the game. I log in to complete the daily and log out. There’s no way I would pay $12-15 a month to do that.

If GW2 went subscription?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Fernling.1729

There is only one successful theme park MMO with a sub. I don’t see that changing.

WoW, FF14 and SWTOR are all successful. Runescape is also very successful, although some would say it’s a sandbox, I don’t know which it is.

It just so happens that 3/4 of the top 5 most popular mmorpgs have a subscription.

ToR is freemium, FF14 has not passed the test of time. Runescape, sandpark?

Maybe you should have specified all the conditions in your original post. You started off with themepark mmos with a sub.
FF14 is going on two years at this point with major success the entire time. You literally said “There is only one successful theme park MMO with a sub”. Sorry, SWTOR has a sub. If you want to shift the goal posts that’s okay too.

SWTOR is F2P…

If GW2 went sub, I’d be gone.

Read what I quoted.
“There is only one successful theme park MMO with a sub. I don’t see that changing.”

SWTOR has a sub. It does also have a limited F2P option, but it does have a sub.

Nearly all western MMO that went F2P still have an optional subscription model,
however there is only one left that has no F2P option at all.
And no .. playing from 1-20 for free is not F2P.

Not sure what this has to do with what I was saying. I was responding to a single post where someone was claiming that only a single mmorpg with a sub is currently successful, which is false, I listed several.

Why do you pretend that FF14 doesn’t exist? FF14 not only exists, but it just so happens to be arguably the 2nd most successful mmorpg on the market.

Gw2 is still about the 4th best mmo in my eyes.

Money.

If you are a professional or aspiring video game pro, this isn’t the game to get rich on.

This is hardly the issue. Only a handful, if that, of players in other games are actually “rich”. The salary for competitive players in other games are extremely low and the majority of their money comes from tournament winnings, which very few earn due to the high competitiveness. The rest of the “pros” earnings is from streaming which most players find themselves having to do. Professional League of Legends streamers make more money than professional League of Legends players (assuming they don’t win Worlds).

The only games that offers more for prizing is Dota 2’s The International (and only The International) which is mainly funded by the viewers themselves. Even that isn’t enough to outlast a pro streamer.

http://www.esportsearnings.com/games/245-counter-strike-global-offensive

It’s not just Dota 2. There’s other games out there that offer better prizes.

It is an issue. Look at some players in the tournament scene. They disappear and show back up once WTS qualifiers are coming up. The incentives to play weekly aren’t there if you have grown bored of the game and not just playing because you really enjoy it.

And your point about LoL streamers making more money than LoL tournament players isn’t too big of an issue, as I’m sure if you are highly skilled and even the least bit entertaining or educational you could garner support on Twitch in those types of games.

This isn’t at all a gripe about Arena Net. They can only be as generous as their resources and budgets allow them to be.

I would add that the fact our competitive scene in GW2 is so tiny, and it’s really hard to find four other players who want to tryhard together and make that team last for long periods of time.

I commend you for your efforts in helping it grow

Do you think $141k is rich? The top income number is coming from a guy who has played since 2007. That’s 9 to 10 years. That’s like $14k-15k a year. CS earnings are REALLY low compared to other games, so bringing up CS isn’t the greatest idea. SC2 has more winnings.

Try 3 years. CS:GO hasn’t been around for 9 years. So, yeah, your math is wildly off base. That’s over $40k a year from tournaments. Not “rich”, but middle class money. Who knows what the guy got from other places.

He’s been active in CS for 9. Read up on him.

He’s made over 40k a year over the last few years from CS:GO alone.

No, it doesn’t. Someone gave you some incorrect information.

They sell level 90 characters (where max level is level 100) to accounts with at least one level 90 char.

I’ve always had the exact opposite problem with GW2. Nearly all content(something like 99.8%) in GW2 is ridiculously easy. The personal story itself is some of the most faceroll content that the game has to offer. It sounds like you are doing something seriously wrong if you are having problems with it.

I couldn’t imagine running the stats you are running either. Go with power, precision and ferocity gear for PvE.

Some other reviews mention it too. Reviews mention that arenanet rarely hire and rely quasi-exclusively on contractors. I now wait for my posts to be moderated and my account banned, as usual when I mention those things.

If Arenanet rarely hire, how do they have 300 plus people working there?

Can’t argue about the QA but I’m pretty sure we’ve seen QA people on live streams. They may well hire addition QA outsourced but I’m sure they have their own people as well.

They outsource their QA to a company named Mobius Industries. From what I can tell, Anet has very little in house QA.
