Sounds like an expansion. Hopefully we will get Elona, paragons and gw2 raids.
Seriously though, their living story team only consists of 20 people, everyone should have been expecting an expansion. I’m guessing first half of 2015. With their “communication policy”, it’s no surprise they don’t talk about it until much closer to release than one would expect.
I’d have to see the post. I certainly don’t believe 7 million copies of Guild Wars 2 have been sold. If the search function worked, I’d look for it, but it’s just not worth it at this point.
Last info puts main game sales at 4 million, and China sales at 3 million, so it has actually passes 7 mil total. While current main game sales are unknown (the 4 mil info is a bit outdated), Chinese info is more recent – and unlikely to change much, seeing as Kong Zhong is mentioning that “the number of players has stabilized” which is a PR speak of “the game is not selling well anymore”.
Anet came out almost immediately and said the 3 million figure was false and they were likely meaning characters created.

I’m just gonna go ahead and call BS. I know LOTS of people that beat DOA so you can’t say very few. Would have made more sense if you said a small percent instead. Seems like a lot of what you say is contrived lol.
It’s very few people by percentage. 7 million people bought Guild Wars 2. I’m pretty sure a million didn’t finish DOA.
The spirit of what I’m saying you’re completely ignoring. In every single game we’ve heard devs talk about this, devs have always said only a small percentage of people ever finish the hardest content. The WoW devs said it. Guild Wars 1 devs said something similar, I wish I had the quote.
But it’s been repeated enough times over the years where only someone not paying attention wouldn’t have heard something to that effect.
By the same token I’ve never heard a dev come out and say that most people finish the hardest content.
This one here.
Either way, it was a mistype or two.
Anecdotes are no evidence.
Vayne if you really want to shill so bad, you gotta try harder!
:^)I don’t think he can help but make things up at this point.
Or you can listen to what devs have said for years from game to game, including some of the Guild Wars 1 devs and make an educated decision based on that information.
This game isn’t the only MMORPG in existence and for years devs have been saying how few people run the hardest content.
Most recently it was a dev from Lotro who said less than 10% of the population raids or did PvP…and that wasn’t recently that was consistently from launch.
You think Guild Wars 1 was any different?
Other devs have said similar things through the years MMOs have been a thing. Some of us ignore what devs say, some of us pay attention.
10% of your 7 million people that bought the game would 700,000. Even though its a small portion of the game its still a very large amount of people. I think all it could do by giving some of these players what they want is help the game. The majority of the things people want (like more dungeons, weapons, and classes) would not hurt anyone that does not want them. Just like how all the people that hate the LS do not have to do it and it does not hurt them. I’m so tired of people fighting against getting more new content. I honestly can not understand why anyone can attack every single idea for new content unless they are paid to do so because anet does not want to and will not do anything except for LS. Because there honestly is no down side to adding more stuff for people to do. Yes not every one is going to be pleased with everything but spreading the new content around more areas of the game (not just LS)so that each area keeps growing is your best chance of pleasing everyone at least a little bit.
7 million people brought Guild Wars 1. Do you really really believe that?
Let’s break it down. Guild Wars 1 sold 7 million copies. Not Prophecies. Not Factions. Not Nightfall. Not Eye of the North. I believe most players had all four games. Do that 7 million becomes a whole lot closer to 2 million.
Just about everyone I knew in my guild had multiple accounts. Between my wife and I we have five accounts.
What makes you think 7 million copies of Guild Wars 1 sold means anywhere near 7 million people buying it?
I think he was referring to your post on page 2 where you say 7 million people bought gw2. In the context, it appears you meant gw1. Pretty sure gw2 hasn’t hit 7 million either.
We do know that the 7 million was not the amount . Of people though. Just by myself I count towards over 8 of those 7 million sales.
It wouldn’t make much sense having exotic gear take a ton of time to acquire when ascended gear is extremely grindy/time consuming.
Typically the top tier of gear in games/mmos are the grindy ones and everything beneath it is pretty easy to get.
There absolutely is a gear grind, for power. There just isn’t a gear treadmill.
This is literally one of the easiest mmos I have ever played. Please don’t try to convince them otherwise. Any easier and you will be playing Wizards 101.
An expansion does so much for mmos. Like for WoW, I was pretty bored with it for a very long while now. Mostly from the last expansion. Here we have WoD release and I am seriously in love all over again. That is also to do with the expansion being one of, if not, the best expansion they have ever released.
It’s brought WoW subscribers already up to over 10 million. We’re talking about over 3 million subscribers returned to the game because of a very well done expansion. Imagine the sales christmas will bring in. 3 million subscriber increase on the same day the expansion released(november 13). China wasn’t even released until the 18th, so the numbers should go much higher than that.
I’ll keep checking GW2 forums out until I either get bored of WoW or until GW2 steps up their game and produces enough content to last more than a couple hours a month.
Not advertising. It’s already been established that gw2 players don’t really want what WoW offers. I’m just saying an expansion release does wonders for a game. I fully think anet would benefit from doing the same.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
This is the same way a lot of gw1 players felt when playing gw2.
I had very high expectations coming from gw1. Some of those probably could never have been met.
I really think there’s an expansion around the corner. There’s no way such little content is all that can be produced.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
Just a simple “we are working on an expansion.” would get me playing again. Not to mention that it would help them with sales and get people back they lost.
SWTOR saw a rather large jump on raptr since the announcement of another expansion. It’s not a very large expansion either.
Surprised to see ArcheAge doing so well a month after launch.
Wow! Has been years since I last saw a sales report.
Seeing Lineage 1 still doing that well is incredible.
I’m surprised Aion is doing that well.
I submitted 3 tickets… Why didn’t I win one? The game is broken!
I’ve been finding it easier to come back. Likely due to me playing low amounts. I probably play about an hour a day on average and it is all pve. I used to play for 3+ hours a day and it would burn me out enough to take very frequent breaks of 2+ weeks.
It’s possible I will be taking an extended break starting this week, but will still try to log in for my dailies.
I’m getting a ton of loot in the new zone. I’ve been spending all my credits on keys and go around opening rhe bandit chests.
Whenever I get an exotic drop. I’m currently averaging about 1 exotic per 200-250 hours of gameplay.
Okay people are saying that it was used in Guild Wars 1…I’m sure it was used in other games before that but…
I just put taxi into the Guild Wars 1 wiki and Ferry came up. Everyone there used Ferry for the few places you needed Ferries.
Everything else, as far as I remember, was a run.
Check out gwguru, which was for all purposes the go to forum for gw1.
I remember the term taxi being used all the time to get to the docks. Although, Ferry was a more commonly term used.
I was also a person that spent 50% of my time selling in Kamadan, so I saw lots of things.
The good ol’ days where I spent 8 hours a day playing Guild Wars.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
I play by myself. I’ve been playing around in the new zone. Normally you will find me in queensdale doing my daily and chatting in map.
As others have said in the past, I’m not entirely sure gw2 and WoW share the same type of player. Meaning they aren’t really in competition to gain the same players. It seems to me that most gw2 players don’t like wow and most WoW players don’t like gw2.
I don’t think gw2 will see a significant drop when wows expansion releases.
Does Anet want to compete or not? I never got in that other MMORPG but I am going to watch Twitch streamers play it – looks like fun.
And its PVE content.
I’m not in it for the PvE, really. It will be fun, but I’m in it for the PvP.
really this again…………………………………….
What part of : “A-Net announces no expansion coming”
is so difficult to underdstand ??There is no hidden super secret brewing.
They don’t announce something because there is nothing to announce. It’s going on and on and on and people keep on being disappointed.
It’s getting old
They have a team of 20 people working on the living story. What do you suspect the other 300+ employees are working on?
I really wish the world was seamless in the first place. It’s probably too late at this point to ever expect that to change. Well, the things that bother me most about it won’t likely change.
I don’t like the constriction feeling I get from the zones. If I want to go from one zone to another, you can’t just cross over unless you’re in one of the few spots. There just happens to be a rectangular range of mountains around every zone. It’s bad enough that there is a load screen, but restricting that load screen to a couple spots really sucks.
I like how in another mmo I play you can travel almost from a zone to another zone in any spot of the map, without a load screen too. No need to raise mountains to funnel people into a few small spots. Anything less feels archaic and not natural.
Even if they have to use the illusion of no load screens, it would greatly help. Reworking all the borders and making it where you can go from zone to zone without being completely funneled would be the complete fix imo.

I would keep an eye on steam. It’s currently $29.99, but it goes sale every once in awhile. I think it goes down to $9.99 during the sales.
This is one of the features in GW1 I really enjoyed. I honestly thought it would carry over to GW2 and was a bit surprised it didn’t.
It was never a huge deal, not for me at least. I reacted negatively before actually testing it fully. I tried it out and it is a small part of a bigger picture. Couple hours and the most of it is over with.
I had a brother try the game at launch, he quit before level 10. He tried it again during the last free trial and quit again. He didn’t have much to say about it. He just doesn’t like the game. He is predominantly a competitive PvP player, which explains why he doesn’t like it. My only experience on the NPE being effective or not.

I know figure prints makes very high quality figures. Not sure if they make for more than a couple of games though. Might be worth getting in touch with them.
I want to buy craft items and max crating professions..
this is so stupid…Dude. Don’t do that on your first character.
Leveling your first time through PvE is one of the greatest parts of this game. Don’t miss out on it like that.
He wouldn’t miss out on any of that if he power levels to 80. You can still do the level 10 personal story, events/hearts in low level zones and anything else you can do while leveling.
Getting to max level asap would actually allow him the option for more content in the game at the same time.
That… actually makes sense.
Crap. Now I’m going to feel like I’m not getting proper rewards unless I’m on one of my two 80s.
Time to farm gold and power level.
I’m sure there are some people that would prefer to have a more linear approach to everything.
It just feels like the levels in the game are pointless and probably shouldn’t have been implemented in the first place.
1) Instanced.
2) Instanced. Seriously, for those who don’t like that idea, please go farm Dry Top, the Silverwastes or the world bosses and let us have our instanced content so we can play only with the people we want.
Fortunately, most people want the same thing.

Nobody is forcing anyone to play full berserker, it’s just the most optimal gear. Just about every single thing in the game can be completed using any combination of gear and weapons. If you want to play a different build, there are plenty of people willing to play with you using the LFG tool or playing with guildies/friends.
That’s one of the reasons I’m in no hurry to hit the cap. I’m going to take my sweet time raising my MF. If I’m still playing in a year or two, I will still have a use for the luck.
I think it was always intended to be a long term goal.
I’ve enjoyed the new zone. I didn’t like Drytop at all, it’s nice to get new zones like this. Unfortunately I don’t follow the story because it sounds like they did a nice job with the story elements here. Even without the story, I find the zone to be fun.
I think we are pretty far out on getting a repeatable season 1. There are some fun things like the marionette that might come back sooner in the form of an instanced raid. At least I like to think so.
From everything I’ve seen, I still think they are wanting to eventually add dueling to the game. I couldn’t say the same thing about open world.
Yes, that is an important distinction. Yes, it is possible that they might want to add a dueling option to the game (through sPvP or WvW mode), even though they have stated several times, that the game was never balanced around 1v1 and they have no intention to change that. Open world dueling however, doesn’t seem to be something they might want to see. The fact that they have fixed the bandit buff sideeffect so fast clearly points that they considered it a very serious bug – something they definitely didn’t want to see in their game.
I mostly agree with all this. One thing, though. I’ve never played an mmo with dueling that was balanced 1v1. Dueling is just a fun super casual thing to do. It is not supposed to be balanced and anyone expecting it as such would be seriously misinformed.
I agree that they don’t want open world pvp. If they wanted it, the game would have started with it.
Wow, 60 pages of pretty much players complaining about the new trait system.
It’s called a hint Anet, take one.
They have. Now I suspect they’re trying not to make a move on this until they can feel things out better than they did the first time. Rather than, you know, rush into a change and botch it up worse.
And before someone suggests that’s not possible, please recall Murphy has laws about this sort of thing, and as bad as things are, they can always be worse.
Alternatively, they might have purposely designed this new trait system to be a big time/gold/skill point sink to make the game last longer and/or encourage lazy players to buy gold.
All the gold in the game can’t buy skill points.
Convert to gems, buy black lion keys and level up with the tomes.
I don’t think it was added for the reasons you quoted though. People were wanting something similar to gw1 and this was their initial attempt.
From everything I’ve seen, I still think they are wanting to eventually add dueling to the game. I couldn’t say the same thing about open world. They would have had to build the game with that in mind, which they didn’t. They decided on wvw instead, which is more than fine.
My previous posts you addressed had nothing to do with open world pvp.
Not everyone is going to agree on the same things, I’m okay with that. Lets just agree to disagree.
Its a couple hours at most to get through this. It is probably even better for most because you don’t have to worry about unlocking the skills for the other weapons you might use. If this is the thing you come to the forums to complain about, you’re in really good shape.
They haven’t added cantha, elona, new professions, new races or the rest of tyria to the game. Your logic says they don’t wwant to add it to the game at any point?
I don’t know what they want to do. They don’t tell us.
Now then, you said you have seen “recent posts” from devs telling us they want to add open world PvP to this game. Links please.
When did I say “recent posts”? I even reread my previous posts looking for it, but it was nowhere to be found. The one from an interview is a year old and the one posted in the forum is 7 months old. They are pretty old, but they are the only thing we have to go off of at this point.
“They don’t want dueling in the game.” That is what you said in one post and then minutes later you say, “I don’t know what they want to do. They don’t tell us.”
Which is it? It really can’t be both.
You’re the one making baseless claims saying Anet doesn’t want dueling in the game.
I’m not making any baseless claim. The simple fact is, Anet could add this at any time, if they wanted to.
There are a lot of things they want to add and there is a priority for those things. Just because dueling isn’t the top priority doesn’t mean they don’t want to add it.
They haven’t added cantha, elona, new professions, new races or the rest of tyria to the game. Your logic says they don’t wwant to add it to the game at any point?
They have a perfectly good reason. They don’t want dueling in the game, and neither do a lot of the players.
They actually say the opposite. I posted some stuff from them over the last few days. They actually want to add it to the game, it’s just not as high a priority as other things. It’s been said by Colin and Justin Odell.
They said this recently? Or you’re dredging up old posts again, in the faint hope that you’ll get your gankster wishes? Please show me a recent post from a Dev. Colin would be just fine.
You’re the one making baseless claims saying Anet doesn’t want dueling in the game. Show me one post from them saying they don’t want it. It doesn’t even have to be a recent one. I’m pretty sure they have never said they don’t want raiding. They have said multiple times that they want to or will add it. One being a year ago and one being 7 months ago.
If you have any evidence that shows they changed their minds, by all means show it. Because until they say otherwise I think multiple instances of them saying they want it holds a little more weight than what you’re saying.
Oh wow what a shame…It was such a tiny area and brought an interesting twist to the map. Well, one thing is for sure, it can be easily done so they don’t really have any excuses for not introducing duels now.
They have a perfectly good reason. They don’t want dueling in the game, and neither do a lot of the players.

I think the hat looks very Asian influenced. It might not be a direct copy paste from real life, but that isn’t a bad thing.
Not really a fan of open world PvP myself, but I don’t see a problem with having it as long as players can opt out.
Hate to bring it up, but WoW has a cool feature in the PvE servers. You are able to flag/unflag yourself for PvP. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to participate in the open world PvP. This allows both parties to enjoy whatever they like. That is a game with factions, so not really sure how they could make something like that work here.
Hmm, kind of sucks that it was a bug. Thought they were going to transition into fun things like this.
I’ve been playing since the very beginning, I’ve never been able to get into the story in GW2. It just feels too corny for my liking.
I’ve seen people say that the living story updates have good story, but everything before the living story has put me off so much I’m not sure I can take anything serious.
The update had some good and some bad. Skills be locked even longer than previously is the bad and better rewards while leveling is the good. I don’t think it’s too bad overall.
well, I guess the really bad is the personal story being all out of order and missing pieces. I don’t follow it anyways, so I was unaffected by that change.
1. Accessibility: I don’t think there should be any kind of prerequisites to enter a raid. The raids should be accessible to those that do not have a guild, full pugs should be able to attempt the content.
2. Difficulty: I want the content to have enough difficulty that even the most competitive guilds will be working on it for weeks or months before completing parts of the raid. I would like to see PvE completion be very competitive among the best players in the game. Revised leaderboards could really shine here. There should be a mix of content that is so difficult that only the best can complete and there should be content that nearly everyone can complete. Have a variety of difficulty to cater to the good and the not so good.
3. Rewards: The content should have unique rewards only earned through raiding. This would include weapon and armor skins, titles and miniatures. Unique rewards earned through raiding should be soul bound on acquire or account bound only. I don’t have a strong opinion on raising gear level. It would be okay as long as the rest of the game is tuned for exotics/ascended.
I also think fun, engaging, cooperation and coordination would be in the top spots, but those are kind of a given and not necessary to write here. Those are the very basics of what I would expect to be in a raid.

Wait, they can fly!?
I still prefer Dwarf over Tengu… but I didn’t know they can fly…
This changes everything! There is no Dwarf race. Ogden is the only one known to still be alive, and all signs indicate that most of the others have been annihilated through their 250 year underground war with the Destroyers.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t any. There could be multiple clans of them just hanging out in a mountain somewhere avoiding all the chaos. It would really be as simple as Anet saying “look what decided to come out of the mountain!”.
I really dislike the idea of multiple WP in a zone, I say get rid of most of them and add mounts to help with immersion and bringing older zones to life.
Yeah, the waypoints make the world feel tiny.
I would also add my voice to those who are annoyed and frustrated with the lack of waypoints. No waypoints and above average difficulty foes really makes for a frustrating experience.
I noticed that people really went out of their way to resurrect people, kinda like they do in WvW. Especially with the amount of people around, it shouldn’t be an issue right now.
It could change when it slows down.
I mostly agree with this. I like only having one waypoint. It’s a pretty small zone, which might be why I’m okay with it. It would suck only having a single waypoint in large zones.
