Pilot system for dueling confirmed.
play nice.
Sept of last year Colin was saying they would like to add dueling to the open world. Maybe it’s getting pretty close.
It’s funny to think of how many people complained about mini polar bear. I’ve even seen it brought up on these forums to justify the RNG of GW2. It’s funny because the polar bear was sooo sooo much easier to get than this miniature. The difference is huge.
I’d much rather see them add an area to WvW where you can hit each-other in the face to your heart’s desire.
Having this in PvE is an annoyance…
Agreed, but as long as it is in a spot that can be ignored it isn’t that much of a problem.
What about new zones being released having the option to zone into a pvp or pve zone? With the megaservers in place, there shouldn’t be an issue with population. There of course would be an issue with no factions, so who would fight who.
I’m want to transfer my account in China, please, Anet !
They have it terrible there. They don’t typically complain about cash shops, but they were in an uproar over there about what they have to deal with. The VIP system itself is just terrible.
I guess some people like different things.
Open world PvP has always been one of my favorite things in mmos. I couldn’t imagine enjoying a lot of my past and current mmos without it. It would be cool to see a couple PvE zones opened up to some kind of open world PvP.
Fluoride in the water. We’ve seen the bandits pouring it in the pipes in queensdale.
I’m not sure, besides buying a physical copy of the game. Hopefully you figure out a way to take advantage of the $19.99 price tag. It’s seriously a smoking deal.
I’m pretty sure they will raise the level cap with an expansion. And I don’t think it’ll be a huge deal….but yeah, there are definitely pros and cons associated with it.
Hopefully it won’t come with a new tier of gear though.
Are you meaning you want your current exotic/ascended to scale to the new level, or you just have to reacquire new level 90(orwhatever) exotic/ascended gear?
I do understand new tier of gear means something after ascended, but want to make sure I got it right.

Quote from Mike O’Brien
“we’ve always expected that we will someday raise the level cap in GW2”
A quote from nearly two years ago. And since we know how fluid the development process is, I would say it’s past it’s “good until” date.
I was just saying it’s still up in the air and with the information they’ve given us, it’s more likely they will. There’s more evidence pointing to a level increase than there is evidence saying they won’t.
They could have easily jumped on the forums and said “We will not increase the level cap.”, surely a bunch of people would be happy to hear that. They didn’t have a problem coming to the forums to say that they will not introduce the VIP system outside china.
Are we looking at the GW2 logo?
Yes, you should unless you were too distracted by “something” else
Why are we looking at the GW2 logo? If it’s as you say an Anet Chinese release promotion, Gw2 logos would be expected.
What is up with the baby bottle? haha
All part of the NPE. It explains a lot, really.
Holy moly this is good.
Even though I don’t think the NPE was that bad.

Are we looking at the GW2 logo?
If it’s Anet’s release promotion, you would assume their game’s logo would plastered in different places.
What is up with the baby bottle? haha

So… would i be correct in saying i should expect to do what I’ve already done all 79 levels prior except fractals and the explore mode of dungeons in between the LS updates (not touching wvw since it reminds me of aion and while a great game, i will not take anger management classes again…)?
That is correct. Anet even marketed it as such prior to release.
“Endgame starts at level 1.” Is a pretty common quote around here. It is actually level 2, since you level when you’re out of the starter area.Hah, made me laugh… ._.
But okay then, i guess as long as i know what type of game it is and not thinking it’ll be something it’s not will make me think differently about leveling up and how i go about one i reach cap. Thanks everyone for your quick replies, greatly appreciate it =)
Playing with that kind of mindset will likely increase your chances of enjoying the game for longer.
I followed the game thinking it would be an extension of GW1. Of course, I realized pretty early that it wasn’t.
The game is very good for what it is.

Okay then, my follow up question would then have to be what is the grind for? With the game having a horizontal progression in place the gear grind would stop fairly early as there wouldn’t be a necessity to keep upgrading.
On the topic of dungeons and fractals, i seem to recall finding that dungeons haven’t been updated since release and there doesn’t seem to be any plans for future dungeons outside the (maybe) raiding system that is being discussed. Any confirmation or clarification would certainly be appreciated. As for fractals, do they get updated or are they at least a long term commitment for the rewards.
Also, i should clarify. I don’t care for any of the vanity/achievements as i would only choose one skin I’d use and only aim for achievements if i happen to get one during normal playtime
You could very well grind for cosmetic items. There is also ascended gear, which is quite the grind. Not necessary really, but it is a power level higher than exotic. You can complete the content without it.
You are correct that we don’t know about any future dungeons being released and their previous statements make it seem like they won’t be revisiting the old dungeons. Until we get some kind of word from Anet I wouldn’t assume anything else. Fractals aren’t seeing updates and do not have long term commitments.
Some people play WvW as their “endgame”. I don’t personally like it, too zergy for me, but it might be worth checking out if you haven’t already.
I don’t think a level cap increase is needed. At this point it would just kitten a lot of people off. Probably should have had a lower level cap in the first place.
The endgame is essentially the same thing you are doing now. The things you do at level 8, 25, 48 and 80 are the same. There will be a few different things at level 80 like explorer mode dungeons and fractals.
Could be missing something, just can’t think of anything else right now.
I’m not arguing that it’s just as easy to develop content for gw2 as gw1, because it’s not. I’m arguing that gw1 is an mmo, every definition of it. You might not think it’s “really an mmo”, but what you really think doesn’t change facts.
What’s your standard mmo? Wow? There are a dozens of different types of mmos, just because it doesn’t play like WoW doesn’t mean its not an mmo.
(edited by Fernling.1729)
Gw1 has always fit the definition of an mmo. It doesn’t necessarily feel like an mmo to some, but it meets the “requirements”. How do you think games like world of tanks or half the mmos on mobile devices are labeled as mmos.
Anet could have called the game an apple, it does not make it true.
“MMOs usually have at least one persistent world, however some games differ.”

I normally see them running the train at eotm or battling tequatl. I see them fairly often though.
I was playing in queensdale today and there were people everywhere. After a half hour or so I got the change instance request. I could only imagine the other instance(s) being loaded with people if I was on one that felt very populated and was still being closed that quickly. I’m not entirely sure how the megaservers work, but it leads me to believe that even the starter zones have a bunch of people playing.
Maybe you were in a low populated instance or playing at an odd hour.

Just in game.
I’ve never understood it myself. It would be nice to enjoy that kind of stuff, Could easily make every game’s longevity a longer.
i know i may be asking something stupid but is there any chance ANY at all to bring back healing in gw2 ,dedicated healing ? cuz i dont see raids work whit out healer they just seems shallow to me whit out it somehow ?? Can any dev tell me if they have ever discus this as expansion or something ofc doge can stay .
I feel pretty comfortable telling you that they will not do something so drastic. It would be a complete overhaul of nearly the entire game to do something like this.
You could splurge a little, $50 or so. Run dungeons daily, eotm train, sell all your collectibles you’re not using, etc.
They want to focus on being the best pc game that they can, among other assorted reasons they’ve given
- Where did they say they want to be the best pc game?
Not exactly best PC game, but Mike O’Brien did say they want to be the the best mmo game. Specifically saying he wants to beat WoW.
“We’re in it to win it this time,” said O’Brien. “We were number two to World of Warcraft with Guild Wars, now we want to beat them. We’ll be satisfied when the Guild Wars 2 is the most successful MMO
I play the game regularly, I guess I just complain a lot. There are things that I don’t personally like, but fully understand why they are done. Then there are things that are done that just don’t make sense to me and likely never will.
I do think the game is making steps in the right direction as of late. The permanent content living story is a good thing, even though I don’t like the content offered. An expansion pack could completely refresh the game. Assuming they really are working on one.
The talk about raids is huge for me. It’s been awhile since I’ve been “into” raiding, just a mix of life and burn out stopped me from participating in them. I’m hoping the raids introduced here fill the same craving with about 1/10th of the invested time and at least the same difficulty.
You must resist your urge to gamble. Especially if you’re purchasing buy gems to convert to gold and gambling it away.
I would just put in a ticket. There was another thread where a guy put his precursor into the mystic forge and an anet employee advised him to put a ticket in. It would be awkward if they didn’t have a way to retrieve lost items.
Europeans get screwed when they buy gems etc if I"m not mistaken.
I would probably say:
-It’s a game made with casuals in mind. This is a huge factor for people I know that plays games/mmos.
- The PvP gets zero focus from the developers, still having a single conquest game mode, like arathi basin or eye of the storm. Again, everyone I play games with care most about PvP. They’re mostly LoL, smite and dota 2 players.
-The game doesn’t feel like it has an endgame, but that could change with the introduction of raids.
-Most of the PvE fights in the game are zergy, as DPS is the best role 99% of the time.
-Absolutely beautiful art. It is one of the best looking mmos out there.
-Combat has a more action-y feel. Almost all skills can be cast while moving.
-The game is very RNG based when it comes to rewards. Lots of gambling in the cash shop.
-B2P, no monthly sub!
-The living story updates are terrible imo. The updates leave so much to be desired. Might be an expansion soon. It’s possible I would feel different if it wasn’t for all the temporary content in season 1 living story.
-The game is extremely solid. Worth every penny at even $60.
I would highly recommend everyone buy the game at the $19.99 it’s sitting at now. unless you immediately dislike the game, you will get your moneys worth.

No, it be like i pay for an item that cost 4.75$, i give them 5.00$ and they keep the change.
So you would prefer that they simply rounded the price up in order to avoid getting uneven amounts of gems?
The gem to gold price is constantly moving so one of these days it is fully possible that those pointless little numbers will be usable.
I prefer that they allow me to sell the amount of gems I want and I get exact amount of gold in return, silver and copper included.
If I’m not mistaken, this is how it was before. That would mean they have the ability to do it again.
I confess: I’m confused. I just went and talked to our UI developer/programmer type people, and they opened up the UI and showed me an incremental purchase rate. As they put in a figure, say, 512 gems, they got a price in gold, silver, and copper, nothing rounded up to the next gold. And when they completed the transaction that amount — and only that amount — was what was deducted from their total currency.
Can you show me what you’re seeing that doesn’t present an exact amount?
Thanks.
the issue with this system is that you can’t convert gems to gold in smaller denominations than 1 gold.
If i have 8 gems and the ratio of gem to gold is 9 to 1. How am I about to sell that off,The difference between 1 and 2 gold is like ~8 gems, how does that round off? am i potentially loosing 1 copper – 99 silver and 99 copper? why am i not able to precisely sell the amount of gems i have,
I think it would be better when converting gems to gold to be able to sell it by the gems and get the precise amount of gold, silver and copper for what ever its worth
What I was trying to say… a lot better than my post though lol.
Here’s the interface for exchanging gems for gold.
Hopefully someone can explain what they feel is wrong about this, because in both cases the amount is carefully parsed to the smallest denominator that I can see.
Are you concerned that you cannot buy 512 gold, 4 silver, and 93 copper? Well, that’s true, it’s not possible. But there’s no “cash grab” that I can see, and I’m trying to understand what your concerns are.
I think their problem is that you can’t spend every single gem you have to get gold. Like 10, 11, 12. The system will jump from 12 to 25 etc. Made up numbers, not in game, so can’t get exact amounts. So you might be stuck with 1 or 3 gems that you can’t use.
It’s a really petty complaint.
Equip yourself in berserker gear. All the open world mobs(not veteran and up) die in a couple seconds. Gives you a chance at getting some materials along the way too.
I resurrect people for the xp/daily achievement progress, not because I’m trying to be helpful.
Also, I don’t have anything other than human…females. I’m a male, I just think that the female animations are the best, especially when running. The armor looks the least terrible on them as well. I’ve tried others, but female humans are the best. I’m not a weirdo, I promise!
If the charr weren’t hunched over and looked like this, I would likely be doing the same with them.

Leveling isn’t really frustrating to me. Like most mmos, it just feels pointless and boring to me.
This is a game I rushed to max level. You can do everything at level 80 and only a few things at 20, might as well be in a position to do whatever I want.
I think tomorrow I’m going to go around zooming in on everything. We could make a game out of this.
High amounts of potent aoe could be one way to cure the stacking problem.
Yeah, it would be unrealistic to expect an mmo to deliver enough pve content to completely avoid repetition. Especially with how us mmo players play.
I think eve online is the closest to a repetition free mmorpg I’ve played. That is almost entirely due to it being a sandbox.
Is this what he was working on? He’s already done the work, so it must be something we haven’t seen yet.
http://intrinsicalgorithm.com/IANews/2014/04/now-consulting-at-arenanet-on-guild-wars-2/
I don’t think it will necessarily grow in active players, I think its peak was quite some time ago. It fills a niche and won’t be dying or anything like that.
I’m not entirely convinced they can produce a good amount of content as time goes on. I guess that really depends on what kind of things are being worked on in the background.
It won’t be a world of warcraft and it won’t be a elder scrolls online. Its a swtor or ff14, which is more than okay.
I was having to taxi through the lfg tool. Be careful though, majority of the taxis are to dead instances.
I am strongly opposed to the raids being only activated through means that only a guild could have. It should not only be accessible with any kind of guild currency. The raids should be able to be put together through chat or LFG tool if wanted. The overall difficulty will likely be too difficult to complete, but some of it would be possible.
I saw the test of the new interface today and it looks solid to me. (I also happen to think it’s very attractive, but maybe that’s just me.
)
The interface and Custom option move into testing now, and the text is already headed to Localization.
The dev team is keenly aware that there are Halloween items available only during a specific period (through November 4) and therefore they intend to do their darnedest to offer the new options in the next few days but certainly in advance of November 4th if humanly possible. (I have confidence this will happen.)
This is the type response I like to see. This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.
So people just starting the game aren’t completely left behind.
Except they are forever behind due to all the missed achievements from season one living story.
That’s true. New people can get relatively close to veteran players even missing those achievements. Imagine people starting the game in 2-3 years from now without the daily ap cap.
About 4,471 achievements points they can no longer get with 462 coming from SAB.
I didn’t realize it was that much… That is about 1000% more than I though haha.
So people just starting the game aren’t completely left behind.

Maybe use a fixed time, but always with a disclaimer, like :
“We hope it will be ready next week, but we are not 100% sure if some problems may make it take a little longer.”The problem is they TRIED that method, even with multiple disclaimers, and were raked over the coals for it.
It’s why I kinda roll my eyes whenever fans complain Arena.net never talks to them. The attitude of far too many players could use adjustment as well.
We all know that the forums represent a minority. Considering it wasn’t everybody on the forums complaining, we are looking at a tiny minority of a minority that even complained. Why should everyone suffer for the complaining(it was only complaining, nothing substantial) for the actions of less than a hundred people?
I don’t know the exact number, but I haven’t seen that many people actually complain about being lied to in regards to Anet giving us their release plan. The manifesto is an entire different story.
So people just starting the game aren’t completely left behind.
Woot! Woot!
Excited to see what this thread will bring.
