I was worried until I saw that the jungle zones will offer hero points 10 at a time. I’m not really seeing this as a huge problem. That is unless the hero points are blocked by other grinds like gliding etc.

I’ve always been a fan of healing in mmos, so naturally the Druid is the most appealing to me.

Their confidence in the new HoT content is worrisome. Kind of sad that they have to do this in order to ensure people will choose the new content over the old.

edit
I’m not too sure I still believe what I wrote here. I think anet might be trying to avoid the inevitable case where people play the most rewarding content. By nerfing the dungeon rewards it helps to prevent people from choosing the more rewarding dungeons over the new potentially less rewarding content. If that’s not the case and fractals etc will be as(or more rewarding) than the dungeons, I keep my first opinion.

Not enough concern given to male characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fernling.1729

Fernling.1729

I’m guilty of having only female humans. I’ve made characters that were of other races/gender, but they all felt a little weird to me. Like the male human’s animations are terrible. If that wasn’t enough, the odd body shape and bad armor did it for me.
I just feel like the female human is the best in animations, cosmetics and just about everything else.
In the secret world I have a male.
Eve online I have a male(not that it matters much there).
WoW I have lots of different races/genders.
When given the option in single player games, 99% of the time I play a male. There is just something about GW2 that makes me feel like playing a female human is the best.

I’m happy the charges are on sale. I needed to buy more, just wish I could buy more than 15 at that price.

What are you doing that requires so many charges, since I seem to earn a lot in daily chest and or pvp. also the few i earned when i did map explorer and such.

I don’t really use them too often. I just don’t earn many at all anymore. Just the ones from the dailies. Lately I’ve been messing around with the look of my characters. I’ve also been leveling another character and use a charge every time I get a new piece of armor. A complete waste, I know. I have a feeling I will be using a lot of them come HoT as well. Buying 15 only bumped me up to 31.

I don’t PvP unless it’s to finish up a daily. I haven’t focused on map completion in a couple years now. It will likely be a focus in the near future though.

What worries me is the fact that there were people in /m talking about how much fun they are having doing it and that they don’t even care about getting no rewards. Are people really so easily entertained? This is the epitome of terrible gameplay.

As much as I hate to invade on your circle-jerk, I had to at least say that not everyone plays games for rewards alone. Obviously this is an alien concept to you, but true, whether you believe it, or not.

I probably worded it wrong. I’m not saying it’s worrying that they are playing without rewards. I’m saying that the content is not fun and it doesn’t even have rewards. Where some people will trudge through boring content just for rewards where this content doesn’t have rewards or fun.

I mostly play without rewards in mind. I don’t ever farm for gold or anything. I don’t do content just because it rewards a lot of gold or anything. I simply do the content I find fun. If this event was fun I would play it. If it was boring and it had good rewards I would still unlikely do it. I mean, I might do some of it to get the selfless potion, but I won’t enjoy it.

Instanced Raids Confirmed [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Fernling.1729

Fernling.1729

I think the examples people are giving are hardly on-topic anymore…

The best example on the topic is every other RPG ever released so far in gaming history, that doesn’t use a 100% pure random loot system. In every such RPG ever created, items are rewards behind content, very very specific content. Usually the hardest dungeons and the hardest bosses also have the best possible loot. That’s how every RPG ever works, video game or even not video games, like p&p RPGs.

The game masters make dungeons, and they add dungeon-appropriate rewards for them. Usually in a lot of RPGs, since they are single player, and not meant to be repeated, you get the exact item the boss character is using. You want that Staff of Awesome Time Bending that is held by a powerful Lich Wizard? Well you will probably have to go and kill him, or infiltrate his castle and steal it. Farming his minions that plague the countryside won’t reward you the item no matter how many you kill.

You want that epic gemstone that is part of a Dragon’s hoard? You will probably have to infiltrate said hoard and either kill the Dragon or find another way to get it, still doing the actual content. Farming the random goblin army minions won’t give you the item.

Yet in MMORPGs players have this weird idea of everything being available to every type of gameplay although this thing doesn’t exist in any other RPG, so why should it in MMORPGs?

Because “Play your way” was one of the marketing promises? The ability to do what you ENJOY, not what was REQUIRED, and to be able to enjoy the top-tier rewards. Because for 3 years, we haven’t had raids with exclusive rewards, and quite honestly only a very small group of people even wanted them?

Now, ANet has drawn a line in the sand: raiders are more important than non-raiders, and get exclusive rewards that can’t be earned anywhere else. If that’s their decision, well, it’s their game, but its not the game I bought, and not a game I’m interested in supporting.

There are plenty of rewards exclusive to open world pve that can’t be earned by raiding.

Beta weekend players, HoT worth it or not?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Fernling.1729

Why so cynical? LS3? I don’t remember previous living stories bringing Raids, a new class, a large expanse on total skills, new trait lines that alter the base class, role necessity, harder creatures, new legendaries, legendary armor, fractal and pvp revamped systems, a new pvp mode (short of Courtyard if you consider that a pvp ‘mode’).

If you don’t think 50 dollars is fair after 3 years of playing the game and many much more time to follow, then… I’m sorry. But even 60 dollar console or PC games don’t amount to many hours of non-social entertainment. I’m not sure where you’re basing your views of “worth”. If you don’t like the game, don’t play it, but as far as content goes, saying its just a new Drytop is simply wrong and deceiving…

I think that after three years an MMO needs a true and real expansion… not this dressed up living story Heart of Thorns nonsense. Its a deviant scheme to squeeze more money out of its playerbase. Also…. price is not an issue…. obviously I’ve already purchased the “expansion”. I have been starved of content and have been dying for an expansion for years now. Living Story wasn’t enough…. so what did anet do…. they cut off content completely… saved up a handful of free releases… and then put a pricetag on it…. It is honestly insulting.

There will be 4 maps, anet have said so. You haven’t played the beta and have false information – your opinion isn’t worth much.

The new area we’ve seen is great – fun dynamic events, gliding is awesome, interesting mobs to fight. Hopefully all the maps will be like this with varied themes and layouts.

The Chronomancer is so much fun, I am sad every day my Mesmer isn’t one yet.

I paid £35 for HoT and got such good value from 3 years of GW2 so far I’m sure it will continue to provide more.

Do you have a source for where Anet said there will be four maps?

Also, I have definitely played the beta…. how does your foot taste in your mouth?

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns#The_Heart_of_Maguuma

4 maps.

“There is literally nothing that would make me want to buy this” sorry when I read THIS I made the assumption that you didn’t buy it – because NOTHING could make you…

I stand corrected on the ‘playing beta,’ I do wonder what the something that made you buy it was though.

Again… that wikipedia entry is not sourced.

Any chance the dev’s will nerf the difficulty so it’s more difficult throughout the whole game?

They have only made things easier since the game’s release because of people asking for things to be easier.
There are already people whining about the difficulty of mobs in the first new zone in the game’s expansion. This was after playing a single weekend. These complaints are against mobs that simply require dodging/reflecting when they make a telegraphed attack.

I would stick through it though. Raids and fractals could prove to be very challenging. The difficulty of the mobs in the new zones are already much better than those in the base game.

Most content in the game can be completed by autoattacking, HoT will hopefully be changing that up a bit. Some mobs in the current high level zones require a little bit of movement with the addition of 2-3 more keys. The dungeons do require more, but not by much.
GW2 open world PvE is not the thing you play for hardcore or difficult content(right now, might be changing with HoT). You’re better off playing GW2 for its story, exploration, dressing up and other things. GW2 is a great game to relax in when you don’t want to take things serious.

If you want more difficult you could try SPvP. I greatly dislike, but there are people that still play it.
Things do get harder as you level, they just never get “hard” in the open world.

One of the major complaints, if not the biggest, has always been that the game lacks endgame. I could easily see GW2 becoming the second most played mmorpg in the west.

That would be better than nothing, but what if a player prefered the look of the kind exclusive to raiding?

Then you would have to raid or deal with not having that exclusive look.
I have to deal with not having a lot of things in the game. Things that are not available anymore, no matter how badly I want them. I just deal with it.
