It started off really bad for me. After awhile the game got kind of fun when I started a warrior and engineer. A couple weeks later the game just felt terribly shallow and boring.
I’m about 300 hours played and would say about 5-10 of those hours I was enjoying myself. Spent so many hours since launch just hoping that it would get better… and surprise it never did. I don’t play at all anymore, but I do frequent the forums/check updates in hope that things will get better.
Yeah, just seems in paid there wasn’t as many low ranked people who had no clue what to do. Now it seems like a crap show, or to me at least.
Paid tournaments are not needed imo. That is why the game needs a real match making system, so you are grouped with people that are of equal skilled(solo queued) or you play against teams of equal skill.
In short, if you are complaining about being with people that have no clue what to do, you are either one of those people that have no clue what to do, or Anet failed with their matchmaking. Personally I think it’s the latter.
Kind of funny that 280 of those 325 are empty(no joke).
I would have paid a sub if the game was half decent when released. Anet is not the best devs out there… Needless to say, they aren’t getting more of my money.
I hate that it is just more cliche zombies.
NCsoft stock has significantly dropped since the release of GW2, that tells me that something isn’t doing too well.
It has a much higher learning curve, which is why you see people that dislike(typically too complex for them) and you see people that like the game. Overall the community in GW1 is much more mature and the game truly rewards you in everything you do.
P.S. builds are awesome in the game.
New game modes and the removal of downed state are two of the biggest things for me. I’m glad at least a few others agree with me.
I don’t think spectator mode is needed at all to make SPvP in this game successful, so I would put that near the very bottom of their priority list.
Everyone I know stopped playing the game completely. I’ve witness multiple guilds just die. Twitch viewers are lower than warhammer online some days and about about 20 times lower than games like runescape in viewers. Google searches have slowed down to match other “dead” mmos. Not to mention, NCsoft stock has actually consistently dropped since the release of GW2.
I guess the people I see on the server, pretty much everywhere, and the zergs in WvW must be completely imaginary. And it’s a whole lot more servers than Warhammer.
I think people who think the game is dying have no more evidence than people who think the game is thriving, but one thing for sure.
The forums get a lot of posts.
I’m not saying the game is dead, or unpopulated, i’m simply saying that I believe a ton of people have quit already. There could still be a few hundred thousand people still actively playing and you would without a doubt experience people everywhere. I just don’t think the game kept up with the hype. I also think people will call games that fail “another guild wars 2”, but mostly for its pathetic attempt at becoming an esport.
I don’t think it’s attempted to become an esport yet. They’re only just introducing leaderboards now, and they are working on observer mode. They want to eventually make it an esport, which is not what they focused on at launch.
No game keeps up with its pre launch hype, which is the problem with hype. Those who temper hype with a dose of reality aren’t disappointed. Those who allow hype to rule them are bound to be disappointed.
I mostly agree. I definitely agree with the hype thing though. I spent countless hours with GW1, followed GW2 development since the beginning. Needless to say I was beyond hyped, until I played it at a convention. I guess I had much higher expectations from the company that brought us GW1.
You’re a PvPer, clearly. I’m a Pve’er mostly. That makes a lot of difference in what you expect in the first place.
This game isn’t a great jump from Guild Wars 1 PvP to here. But for me anyway, it’s a huge step up in PVe.
Not really a PvPer per se, but an elitist of some sort. I am a very competitive person and liked to be pushed beyond my own capabilities. I find this in PvE and PvP depending on the game, which WoW was able to do extremely well. I guess I am really disappointed with the lack of competitive/exclusive content that could push myself and friends. As far as PvE goes, I couldn’t be pleased until we received WoW type raids, which I don’t expect, nor think belongs in this game. I am also really disappointed in the conquest mode that we have in PvP. Anet could add solo queue, leaderboards, ranking, spectator mode and perfect balance and I wouldn’t be happy because I just don’t find SPvP to be fun the way Anet has implemented it.
Honestly, the game simply isn’t for me. I have a difficult time accepting it though. I wait around lurking the forums with my negativity in hopes that something will happen to change my mind, but deep down I know that it will never happen.

P.s.
Does anyone have any insight on why NCsoft stock has made a steady decline since the release of GW2? I don’t have any knowledge in this area and it makes me very curious.

and about the " a lot of posts on the forum", mmo champ months ago would have a very active base of 300+ people viewing gw2 subforum at once and is now down to about 50-75, GW2guru has significantly dropped in active posts, and not more than a few months ago, you couldn’t make a thread on this page without it being pushed to the 2nd or 3rd page within minutes.
sloppy and hard to read… from my phone lol

Thanks Jon, does that mean you’re giving banners another +20 stats?
I heard 25…
Can someone link this GW2 is the fastest selling mmo? Everything I see by google is saying that SWTOR is the fastest sellling mmo.
Since we are all making up numbers… Based off the low amount of GW2 twitch viewers(175 average) I am gonna say there are about 50,000 active players.
I’ve waited over 7 months and the only thing that has really improved are bugs, which were just replaced with new ones. The game constantly introduces grind after grind with each passing month and only seems to be getting worse. How am I suppose to act like the game is headed in the right direction? I’m sorry, but things are only getting worse.
P.S.
WTB the old ArenaNet.
Just hold on guys, I have a feeling that next month we will actually get something. If not, who cares? We always have the month after that!
It’s an anime thing. Kind of annoying that its coming more and more into western games…. Leave the crap in asia!
Nah, the game isn’t worth a sub. I wouldn’t play even if they paid me.
I’ve tried going back, I wish it was a bit more active. I really miss it though.
the fact that u lvl up with crafting, beautiful. WvW its amazing. the mists pvp….needs more variety, seriously, but i love it too. the storyline, epic. everything is just really really good. i dont even understand how people can complain, dont get me wrong i read the threads and comments, but their all senseless to me =/. the game is nr1 without a doubt, this isnt even a biased comments cause i PLAYED a LOT of mmorpgs, and GW2’s nr1 status is no lie.
If this is the best game you have ever played, you should pm me. I will provide you with a large list of games that will surely blow you away.
I cannot believe that more people want another game mode rather than a ladder system!
A ladder will not help any if the game is boring. I honestly don’t expect players to come back with class balance, spectator mode or a ladder system. They need to make the game fun, which IMO would be done with something other than conquest.
Conquest as the sole competitive mode really sucks imo.
I’m gonna say that we will get custom servers and/or single queue.
Max level will most likely stay at 80.
They have said things like, “We will definitely look at increasing the level in the future” and “Adding more levels is something we would like to do”. I think the max level will definitely increase in the future of GW2 because of Anet devs stating they would like to do so. If i’m not mistaken, I’ve never seen them say that they would like to keep it at 80.
“That is something we are looking at”.
The first 40 hours was fun. I find it extremely boring now, mainly due to the game mode.
Tarnished coast is extremely heavy with overflows in dragon event zones and queensdale. It doesn’t bother me at all though.
So, uhm, what are the staff that are not part of the live team doing?
That’s kind of what I was thinking. Didn’t they say that they have a live team and a team that solely works on expansion content?
either pay, or you can delete all your characters.
Hi,
I know a lot of threads have been posted about how dissatisfying the last patch has been, and a lot of threads have been closed down because people may have expressed their ideas in a non-agreeable manner.
Let’s use this thread to express exactly what we believe the sPvP side of the game needs in a polite fashion so that the devs can read this with an open mind.I’ll start with my own opinion of what is needed:
1.) Leaderboards with visible rating/rank
2.) Removing Hot-Join to encourage solo queue which would allow for
—> 3.) Solo queue being separate from Premade queue.2.5) Randomize the map.
4.) PvE/Gem/Gold rewards for winning tournaments
5.) Weekly bug fixes/patches instead of monthly ones.
6.) A daily 8/16/32-team tournament with substantial rewards
—> Re-introduce QPs and reward 1 for each round won in the daily tournament.
7.) A WEEKLY 8/16/32-team tournament which requires 3 QP to enter. The prizes should be even more substantial.]
8.) A MONTHLY 8-team tournament which would include the winners and runner-ups of the 4 weekly tournaments.
9.) Observer mode / Mentor mode
And, finally, once all of this has been achieved : 10.) A big cash-prize tournament to reel in viewers and bring back old competitive players who have left.
With the amount of SPvP additions we have received in the last 6+ months, we could expect most of these things to be added in about 6 years.
Great thread guys. Some awesome questions/ideas on here.
I’ve already read up to this point, so I’ll check back tomorrow to see what new stuff has come up.
Why don’t you answer some of the questions while you are in the thread? Maybe we will see you reply to a handful of the questions when you check back in tomorrow.
I’m only giving my own opinion.
I can no longer trust that the developers of GW2 have our best interests at heart
Should change that to “mine”
He speaks for more than himself.
Leave tarnished coast.
They should just add solo/duo queues into the game. The systems are in place, what is the excuse for not doing so? Splintering the playerbase? As it is right now, there isn’t a SPvP playerbase, at least this would bring some people back.
Wait, what? They are releasing 2v2? Deathmatch? Where did you see this?
I trusted Anet through all of GW1 and up to the first time I actually played GW2 at a convention. This is not the same Arenanet we once knew.
There is no ‘join solo queue’ option. There is a ‘join solo’ queue option. The patch didn’t add solo queue, it just added a button to make it more convenient to queue up by yourself, but you still get matched against everyone else playing tpvp, including premades.
Remove something from the game that should never have been implemented, and add a convenience button for something that already exists.
PvP patch.
Arenanet.
If it is so trivial, why have it at all? Just to give the illusion of content?
Oh, people still play this game?? You guys really believe that anet is capable of fixing the game?? The fact is they cant, its funny how history repeats itself….just look at Guild Wars 1.Nuff said…. Amen!!
Go back to WoW.
I did.
Bye
Funny enough, I did too. GW2 made me appreciate WoW pvp.
That’s the final rest skin right?
Because it’s not the solo queue people have been waiting for.
Isn’t the PvP patch coming in March?
Or is that just WvW?
Just WvW.
Yeah, this is embarrassing for Anet as a company. Even for the PvE side of the game it is very disappointing(paid expansion worth of content, what expansions have they been paying for?).
I think they will see a slight increase in players for the first few days though.
Because when they tried different modes during testing they found that in deathmatch people would just avoid combat and run away till all their abilities like ultimate skills were up so they could guarantee a win.
Think Ele, Thief and Mesmer are bad now? Imagine not even being able to get a fight until they knew they could faceroll with everything up.
Conquest promotes fighting even when people aren’t necessarily ready.
If we had deathmatch and no respawning people wouldn’t fight until all cooldowns were up.
But with conquest if you see your point is going to get neutralised and you know you need to keep it to win the game, you are compelled to dive in and have a fight to delay that happening, even if all your skills weren’t ready and you can’t guarantee the outcome of the fight.Deathmatch makes people selfish and boring, conquest promotes more teamplay and thinking of the big picture.
If you just want to kill people and not guard points then you can play that role in conquest as a teams roamer. Nothing is stopping you except yourself.
It doesn’t matter what the problem was with other game modes IMO. Conquest is downright boring and they should have figured out a way to make other modes work. I still think they should make other modes work, because conquest isn’t doing kitten for them(alongside twenty other problems).
PvP free with a rebuilt cash shop would greatly benefit them. Increase revenue, so they could afford to hire more people to build the PvP side of the game.
Log in and do your dailies. Maybe one of these days you will need those laurels.
It’s a small step towards success, but it will definitely not fix the game. It is boring and uneventful right now.
Great step towards fixing things, but still doesnt make SPvP good.
yes, it should be visible!
