So I tried the mystic forge for a dusk...

So it took you a couple of weeks to save up 300g. using all the tokens it would’ve taken you a couple more weeks to buy dusk.

It wouldn’t rise any further than 650g, learn the market a little even if you don’t flip in it.
The only reason dusk went as high as 650~700+ was because legendaries were allowed to be sold on TP.
The price remained a static 500g before that.

Such a shame, well too bad I guess.

just “buy” dusk?

And if everyone takes said stance, what happens to the supply of dusks on the TP in terms of pricing through demand and dwindling supply…

But no one does.

The weapon is expensive for what it is, and if we had a scavenger hunt it will be just as bad through the other req. mats, which will completely screw anyone else who doesn’t want to have anything to do with legendaries.
This situation is actually much better, to make sure there’s enough supply of high end materials at a reasonable price for everyone.
If you and I and another 10,000 people could get dusk in a month through a quest of some sort, as long as it may be but at a 100% rate, how many lodestones do you think there would be on the market?
or how much would any T6 mat gonna cost then?

Be careful what you wish for.

I’ve completed four legendaries now. The current method of obtaining precursors is garbage. I would not be angry in the slightest if and when they are made more widely available to players seeking them.

Took me much longer to obtain the karma and other corresponding parts to each one I made than it took me to log in, feed a few of my items into the market everyday. Of course not everyone can control a rare and profitable item on the TP. It has nothing about being smart or crafty in relation to markets but everything to do with when such a person bought out an entire item stock in the games timeline. No one will ever dethrone me from my item unless I quit playing the game. The bigger TP barons wouldn’t waste time kicking me off what I peddle. So newer players will simply never have the ability to have the gold income that I or people who make much more than I do to ever afford the current going rates for precursors when it comes to using the market as income.

If .dat file swapping were possible in this game, I would have done that to see legendary skins on my characters long before I would have worked to actually make one. Let alone four. And all because of the precursor.

off-topic, but here we have someone admitting to “controlling” an item on the TP and being able to afford 4 legendaries. the wonders never cease.

I’m able to afford 4.
Can farm karma, SP and world completion faster than that fella (or most players).
I doubt he managed to get his 3rd leg at the same timeline as I did (974 hours).

Everything is possible, he’s a crafty merchant, while I got to learn the game inside out and not waste my time on the endless gift of mastery like many traders did.

I’m a big chests kitten, and my biggest gripe with them is that the DR on them seem to reset over 48 hours or even longer.
Since after 24h I still get the same crap loot, but if I don’t touch a single chest for over a week then I even manage to score some exotics and rares much more than the usual. (plenty of alts).

I enjoy the social aspect of these MMO’s more than anything i think. When i do dungeons, i do not care who joins my party and will also stay in the dungeon until it is complete no matter how long it takes. I actually like taking new groups through or doing story modes with people, helping them along. But i don’t think that it matters what game you play, the ‘elitist’ gamers who will do things one way and never accept anything else… they forgot what gaming is. I also go to low level areas a lot to just run around and do stuff sometimes.. Other MMOs that i have played, if i get no help from other players and no one goes out and talks to new me i will lose interest in the game and quit quite fast. luckily in this game i met like minded people in my guild and dungeon group.

All we can do is .. well.. quite obviously, that one thing that most of us hear ’oh so often. treat others as you would like to be treated. perhaps the more we do that the more we will see it in return.

I never forgot what gaming was, if anything, I’d quit the game by now if I didn’t have any fun. (why play a game I hate???)
Efficiency IS fun for some of us! Sorry but running the same path hundreds of times is just not fun, no matter the time gap between each run.
But speedrunning it? and having the rush feeling involved? yes please.

I made lots of gaming buds from them slow, tedious, dungeon runs but cannot name a person i did a speed run with. I am casual gamer though, i suppose you might be the opposite on the friends you remember names of.. lol
Perhaps i should have added “in my opinion” since there is certainly not just one view on gaming (i.e. my own) lol

Not all of us are friendly people

A real friend is someone who you can call his baby ugly without him going apekitten on you. I don’t need virtual buds, real ones will be enough for me.

@OP: If you happen to be in tier 1 (SoS/JQ/SoR) then I’m probably the mes LOL, seeing as I’ve used a stack and a half of spiky fruit today. All I can really say to you is use stun breakers?

I’ll never understand the point of these threads, it’s an even playing ground for everyone, spiky fruit and the other consumables are available for use by everyone. I think it keeps things interesting, and most people I’ve killed with consumables actually find it funny and PM me.

@Kumu Honua: Actually I’ve been using Spiky Fruit for months… But you are correct, it’s just now gears are starting to see mainstream usage. Though they’re actually very expensive; surprised I’m seeing lots of gear usage and not so much spiky fruit when gears cost 3x as much.

Nope, not on those servers. You’ve obviously never been hit by one. It resets all your abilities/utilities. You couldn’t break out of it if you had such an ability. It boils down to whoever can throw a fruit first, cause after that it’s auto-win. Enjoy it while you can.

CC disables most skills but not utility that breaks stun.

All my utilities were being reset with each spiky fruit, I couldn’t do anything…except lay there and die. Like I said, enjoy it while you can.

@Osi and Firegoth, I don’t believe in handouts and I’m not asking for them. If you must know, I want ANet to give us the toughest content in the book, with the precursor as a prize. I’m talking about levels, puzzles, and a super-dungeon that will push players to their limits, not this boring grindfest as it is now. That’s the problem with you elitists, you assume we want handouts, when really we want content that befits the reward. Grinding 600g does not befit a precursor weapon. I’m not asking for a free legendary, I’m asking for something to do, a challenge, that requires skill not grind. I don’t care if I fail a hundred times, I want to muscle my way to the back of the cave and claim my prize.

There’s no need to show me the money specs. I know them, I’ve seen them, I opened the thread because talking money has never moved this issue forward. I’ve played video games for over fifteen years and GW 1 for six years. I know how that economy works. I know how to save up for a legendary because I’ve been slowly at it for months. It’s not about money, it’s about content. If you give gamers a challenge, they will rise to the challenge. There will be more precursors out, they will be less expensive, but people will be buying, and the ones that don’t can get theirs through a difficult task that casual, hardcore, or any gamer in between can do if they put that effort.

The only difficulty that can separate worthy to unworthy people is at the level of Super meat boy or Prinny: Can I really be the hero? (hardmode)

Too bad we can’t implement those two in GW2, so other than that, what the hell can require such skill from anyone in an MMO?
Spoiler: Nothing.

Legendaries are SUPPOSE to be hard to get….

You miss the point “The point is give everyone the SAME AMOUNT OF WORK to get a legendary” For example, I dont care if I have to burn 5000 rares. I care that we all have to burn 5000.You get it?

That is RNG for you though. For all you know you could always get your precursor the ‘next’ time. People only make threads like this because they weren’t as ‘lucky’ as their neighbor.

Legendaries are overrated anyway, in my opinion there are plenty of skins out there that are cooler.

Who gives a kitten about the skins????
It’s the effects that make them appeal to everyone.

GS aside, all legendaries got skins that can be easily replaced by other cooler ones.

There’s no real other barrier than gold to keep them unreachable from the common player.

But here’s the thing – many people claim they got all the gifts besides the precursor.
Gifts value > precursor.
So why not just farm for the precursor the same way they did for gifts?
It is not an unreachable amount, they already earned more than its worth through the gifts.

It is laziness.

Ok big boys, let's brainstorm

in Crafting

Posted by: Firegoth.6427

Firegoth.6427

First, I’ll remind you that everyone has a Legendary, they become legendary in name only.

Now, to your request for ideas. I would have given a token at the end of the player’s personal story (dungeons excluded). I would have made these tokens once per account, and allowed players to trade them in for a precursor of their choice.

Far from everyone, there are hardly enough precursors on TP to accommodate anyone who wish to craft one. In many cases only players who played since release got them.
New players got next to no chance to obtain one now.

Deadcell.9052 – Well, I did say for fun, but mate, that’s way too complex to follow!

Malediktus.9250 – They are for anyone who is willing to put serious effort.

But you all agree to some extent that a precursor must be combined through several items obtain through gameplay, similar to gift of mastery.
I assume you’re heavily influenced by the “Scavenger hunt” idea.

I was personally thinking along the lines of GW1’s endgame content, such as Domain of Anguish.
Once you complete the story (future update), a new area will open up to explore, can be an instance for all that matters.
Work your way through with your party in the same manner DoA worked, and an epic boss such as Mallyx will be waiting at the end.
IIRC , he was the only boss in GW1 that proved real difficulty to all range of players.

Once defeated, a unique one time account bound token (along with another repeatable reward) will be given to the player to redeem for a precursor.

Before you bite my head off – Check DoA’s difficulty in GW1 including Mallyx’s and then tell me if it isn’t worthy enough.

Biggest problem would be the drops.
I haven’t completed it myself yet, but if the drops aren’t worth the increased difficulty, then there’s nothing to motivate going through it after the first couple of times for fun.

The supply of the precursors is extremely low – on that we can all agree.

But they must have an account binding restriction on purchase off TP to prevent manipulation.
That is all.

Has it occurred to any of you that maybe it really was just a bug they wanted to fix?

I love spirit weapons myself and am sullen about the whole ordeal too, but really, it’s not a nerf. The balance team and bug-fixing team are two different groups.

The whole thing sucks, but there’s no reason to bite ANet’s head off. Hopefully we’ll get some news on improvements for pets later this year, but in the mean time, let’s get one thing straight.

This was most likely NOT a balance-related nerf. It was a bug fix that ended up weakening the skill type.

There IS a difference.

Bug fix that was ignored for 5 months.

Ok, I believe that.
