Here is my definition of both casual and hardcore…
Casual – Play for fun.
Hardcore – Play to win.
QFT, although I’d replace the word “win” with “achieve”.
Which would make me one.
Tbh, GW2 became a game that’s worth logging in every new big patch, check things out for a while and log off until next time – unless you created yourself a long term goal that involves farming (haha, what doesn’t now?)
I’ll go post on suggestions forum to add the HP bar a purple bar to the left to represent part of the total HP as downed state.
There, from now on at 25% hp you get downed. and at 0% you die.
Buy a console, play other PC games, find another hobby non-gaming related.
Come back after 6 months to check back on the game’s development.
—or—
Pop in every big new patch to check what else is new, have some fun with it, and find something else to do later.
These are your two best alternatives, since you can’t really quit the game.
But you’re not dead, you’re downed
Or just play the class that you find so OP instead.
Maxing and alt in this game takes much much less time than any other MMO, which was the best idea in the history of mmorpg’s.I’m gonna play a class I don’t even like just to take advantage of a mechanic I don’t like. Wow, that sounds like the dumbest idea I’ve heard since downed state. Hey, do you work at Anet by any chance?
Nope, but all classes got ups and downs.
Downed state is part of what makes GW2, just because you’re used to one way of PvP from other games, it does not make it the “right” way to do it.
GW2’s PvP is a different game, WvW in its nature is widely different than sPvP, that you cannot even begin to compare the two.Until the day Anet will change WvW skills to sPvP, it will still remain as PvX and not solid PvP, so you cannot compare the two.
oh really? what are the upsides to the downed states of ranger, engineer, warrior ad necro?
Okay, getting someone’s hp downed to 0 equalling a kill might not be the “right” way to do it, hey why not just give instant rezx5 so we have to kill each other 5 times? but in all seriousness, I know downed state is the wrong way to do pvp.100%.
I meant ups and downs in general that compensate for it, not specifically for downed states.
Also, if GW2 was the first game to introduce PvP – you wouldn’t know any better.
So yeah, you only assume you know what is the “right” way to PvP basing your idea of it off other games.
@Zero
I only play games that I enjoy, if I do not enjoy something in this game, I just don’t do it. I take downed state as part of how you PvP in GW2. I do not try to change the way this game was meant to be played.

Firegoth no it is not cause now i am really bored and the journey to get there was really boring i mean face it the story sucked! And the heart quests are chores not epic quests like most mmos out there. So i would rather them have taken there time to develop quests stories and epicness so the game wasn’t rushed into boring level 80. There’s nothing to do but farm. This game is over glorified PVP so at least get rid of the down state and do something right in this game.
Story? who gives 2 kittens about it?
You got 3 servers to farm DE’s for experience, each map exploration of your level or higher worth at least 1 level, you got 3 very cheap crafts to level another 30 levels.
You can hit 1-80 in less than 10 hours accumulated doing all the above.
Trust me, I got 14 of them.
Or just play the class that you find so OP instead.
Maxing and alt in this game takes much much less time than any other MMO, which was the best idea in the history of mmorpg’s.
Using fingers for movement and weapon skills.
Using my Razer naga mouse macro keys for any other functions such as utilities / Elite / F1-F4 skills.
Zerg vs Zerg (or solo vs large group): GS + Hammer
Utilities: Judge’s Intervention, WoR, Shelter / “Stand your ground”
AoE is the key.
Roaming: Hammer + 1h Sword and Shield.
Utilities: Hammer of Wisdom, Signet of Wrath, Judge’s Intervention.
Control is the key.
Why go so far?
Ask yourself how GW1 kept existing on its own for so long?
There was no gem store or any other vanity items for a VERY long time. (3 to 4 years at least, since release)
I’m following Dusk right now (still saving gold), and it did drop to around the 550 – 570g in buy offers.
Mind you, when you buy a precursor, always make a buy order, never buy straight from the seller. Just make sure you’re always on top of the offers and you’ll get your precursor soon enough, and much cheaper than the sell offers.
From experience.
Please separate the crab toss achievements from the rest of the Southsun Cove achievements. (PvP and PvE already separated in the daily and monthly achievements, why is this different?)
I don’t like PvP (in fact I hate it), it is frustrating and relies on luck rather than skill. This is not my play style, and I’m being forced into it to get the reward I want. Arena Net said we could play the way we want, but I’m not seeing that in this update at all.
Please, if anyone else feels this way post that you do so we can possibly see some change!
You have absolutely lost your mind. PvP = Skill ; PvE = No Skill. It’s unfortunate you don’t have the hand eye coordination or quick mindedness to PvP but you really need to get your facts straight before you come crying on the forums.
People have gone completely mad, the day they start calling PvP luck based.
Is mashing bloody #1 and rolling out of red circles against an NPC that repeats its attack patterns, more skilled than human vs human?
You know something guys….
My main is a guardian since release, and I just remembered that we can use the mace.
God.
Well this is a funny thread…
Just before I left to work I did some WvW, now mind you I’m quite rusty since I haven’t touched any pvp in months.
I found this ranger next to a guard, got him, then the guard.
Then a thief popped up, came at me, got taken out pretty quickly, followed by another thief, who did attempt some kind of daze and stealth tactics, didn’t work so well for him, and got killed as well.
I have a pretty solid roaming build which I’d like to share:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNAS8elYgSCHHSEEfIFRWBWa9ggC0fVK2n8uK4QA-jUyAYrIjuAIQBiIAn9QTgERjlxioxqrxUuER1A-w
This build got heavy control against your enemy.
- Here’s how you should deal with the thief:
- Cast hammer, make sure you got block on in case thief goes in stealth.
- As soon as he pops out cast SoA (#5 shield).
- Use flashing blade and trap him with hammer (hydromancy activated)
- Cast RoW (#5)
- Use your hammer of wisdom to disable him.
- Kill.
You can also start with hammer instead and cast ZE (#3) and Mighty blow to attempt to take off some of his endurance. Then switch back to tactic 1.

Didn’t know 45 mins of your life is a grind…
Unless you’re terrible.
Exact locations of these please?
Dat….. Bikini…
Good job with that model, what about that Logan’s redhair friend from the personal story in a bikini?
I got a great idea for the finale of this living story:
A SWIMMING SUIT COMPETITION!!!
They take us for fools, maybe the person who’s in charge of the gems shop also worked for NEXON’s maple story?
It starts to look suspiciously similar to the same game I played once years ago.
The gem shop is an insult to intelligence when it comes to consumable / RNG items.
“we know you’re all playing this game for skins, and we know that we can slap a piece of poop on a stick and call it “celestial sword” and you’ll spend money to buy it"
How is this luck related at all unless you’re simply unskilled?
No troll post here.
Number 3 skill evades all attacks, you look behind you and people are chasing in a large group (will happen at one point, happens quite often anyway) rush through the rolling kraka and chances are that they will drop dead, easier if more than 1 is rolling.
These things aren’t exactly that easy to dodge, especially with all the lag now and then…
I got my title by actually trying to do it, not by “oh look at that” chance.
Ok I’m stuck at 23/25
Met Lord Faren on Southsun Cove
Met Lady Kasmeer Meade on Southsun CoveThese two are at the beach south of Inspector Kiel.
I really would appreciate some help with the Consortium Contracts btw.
You have my gratitude!!!!
I was even checking them out and didn’t pay attention to their names… must be the late hour..
Where is he? I can’t find him anywhere…
Ok I’m stuck at 23/25
How do I complete any of the following:
Completed Southsun Events as Consortium Supporter
Completed Southsun Events as SettlerSupporter
Met Lord Faren on Southsun Cove
Met Lady Kasmeer Meade on Southsun Cove
Defeated Crazed Karka Queen
Loaded Consortium Contracts
Any help will be much appreciated!
Note: From my understading all the Canach related achievements weren’t introduced yet.
They must fix the legendary achievement track and give it a title, maybe 3 people per server will wear it.
I display “God living among mere mortals” on all of my characters.
Simply because it is the only true prestigious title, it shows you have mastered GW1 completely, and you’re not just another chump.
I usually measure people’s experience and how reliable they are in the game by their achievement points (90% accurate), but whoever wears the GWAMM title so far didn’t disappoint me in a party.
Note: If they ever make a title for the legendary track, I’ll wear that instead / as well.
urgh, the hell how you made all dat money XD seems like people have a magic hat to get those kitten precursor i barely get over 50g before spending ALL
In reality, there are very few of us if you take into account the entire game community.
Ones that I’ve obtained. Working on getting underwater spear next. Also trying to get dagger onto an Asura.
Great pics!
But why Sunrise and Twilight on 2 diff characters? 0 faith in Anet fixing Eternity?
Will finish Twilight soon, and plan to keep it on same character.
Paranoia much?
Yes it is disturbing, but I won’t lie saying that I’d rather keep my T5/T6 mats at sane prices.
I’d actually buy gems from Anet for the first time, to purchase a bot ticket and return a bot to farm more powerful bloods.
Mathias.9657 and Galtrix.7369.
Please read my 2nd post (above Mathias.9657 ‘s)
I feel that you didn’t go through it when you posted since it’s on the 2nd page.
Also, the fact that you’re still here posting, only strengthens my point.
None of them. Because none of them have a story.
Per Merriam-Webster:
Legendary: “of, relating to, or characteristic of legend or a legend”
Legend: “a story coming down from the past; especially : one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable”
Some people just want to watch the world burn.
Anyone who crafts both Twilight and Sunrise and forges Eternity is truly Legendary.
Don’t listen to this guy, it is a total ripoff at its current form, and I’ll personally laugh my heart out at you if you’ll ping it in chat.
As for the weapon imo, Either Sunrise or Twilight.
Their effects hold great par to the other legendaries, almost erotic.
- we know Eternity is combined by Twilight + Sunrise, and the recipe for it is :
Eternity = Twilight + Sunrise + Gift of Mastery + Gift of Fortune
Actually the recipe is different and much much “cheaper”:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eternity
As for the GS, I’m working towards Twilight now while owning Sunrise, I should finish it in a week or so. But I do not plan to mix both swords for much lesser effect.
As matter of fact I think it is even more kitten to keep rotating between them, since I do not see any sense in the game dictating me when I should display the effects I wish to show, while on top of it losing the footsteps for some odd reason.
And of course, I will live in hope (though I don’t mind that much) that Anet will fix Eternity’s effects. Yes… they need a fix, this is not Eternity, this is 2 legendaries mishmash.
Look, not coming here to defend the game, but you don’t realize that Arenanet’s business model revolves around fresh updates every month, bring the old and new players alike back to the game.
There will always be new turnover of players, I don’t care if Bob the mighty stopped playing, since he will be replaced by Joe the invincible whom will be replaced by Mike the Warrior.
And I promise you, I PROMISE, that you and all the complainers will buy any new expansion that will come out as soon as it does.
Why?
- Because you love to complain
- Because you love venting
- Because you think you deserve more
But you won’t admit that you won’t be able to stop playing this game every time a new interesting content will come out. And this is how Arenanet will keep this game alive, because you won’t quit, not 100%, not ever.Snip
Like I said, I’m not here to defend the game, I was merely stating my opinion about most of the unsatisfied players.
There will always be a reason for them to come back.
I also feel that Anet been lying to us blatantly, and I play the game for my own reasons though. I’ll even tell you more than that –
I’ve quit the game myself for 2 months and came back because of SAB, hey I’m only human and couldn’t resist the 8 bit innovative idea. One thing lead to another and here I am working on another legendary that keeps me playing for now.
When a new expansion will come out, the curiosity of many players who felt the game was lacking will trigger again, why? Because some will hope for new changes, new classes, new areas to enjoy, maybe and probably new mechanics that will cater more to their liking.
Hell, it’s a one time fee so why not? Most of us will admit that we got our $60 worth out of the game long ago, and I doubt the next expansion will fail to give us the same satisfaction to that point at least.
coming back to a game you decided to “quit” is not a weakness.
Curiosity is a strong feeling, and it is hard to completely put down a game that gives you 100% free access to all of its content with a one time fee.
You never really quit, just taking a break until you become interested again.

So wait, no one knows how to do the dancing animation without moving their lower body?!
That for $10 u get 1 soulbound pick is a rip-off
Try WOW and pay 15$/month for nothing)
touché
Just checked some pictures (can’t check vids, at work)
It seems that it creates some kind of lava/molten animation + effect that is quite visible every time you use it. Is this true?Yes, it has an animation effect when used.
Yeah I saw the vid when I got back home. Pretty neat so I got it with gold.
Hurt a bit but I made the gold back quickly enough.
Gotta say that I love it for the animation alone, I wonder what they’ll come up with for sickle and axe.
I agree with most of what he said, it seems when they made this game they were thinking something along the lines of…
“lets take the Guild Wars universe, and make it “appeal” to a more casual audience".
I think this resulted in some major problems that the game is experiencing now. The build meta is boring and unexciting. Everything feels really shallow. This game keeps making me think it was designed for casual players and that playing it hardcore is something you weren’t supposed to do. Why do I think this? Remember at release how there was little to nothing to do once you got to the end. The personal story wasn’t challenging at all and there was little to no endgame. So they start introducing time locked content with dailies, guild missions, diminishing returns, etc. It is like they weren’t anticipating so many people would try to play it hardcore and are attempting to slow players down.
I don’t believe this can possibly be news for you but yes the game was designed for more casual play hence the huge world, downscaling, business model and anti farming methods.
What completely blows my mind is that some people still don’t seem to realise this. The game is not shallow- it is very well designed.
It does not lack content or “endgame” it is filled with it from Queensdale to Orr.What it does not have is a game that magically starts once you hit cap- that forces you to grind levels so that you can get to the top, be the top dog and have the best stats or whatever it is that floats the boat of “hardcore players”
As for shallow- this is actually hilarious because if “hardcore” players were not busy rushing to where ever it is they go, maybe they would actually take a look at the world around them.
Gods I have been playing since the betas and I still see stuff I have never seen before
Don’t get me started on combat- someone wrote a really nice guide at some stage- go read itYes and as we can tell all this endgame content is working, right? It is not like half the zones have little to no people in them. Most population is in WvW, farming in cursed shore, or LA. Oh, the good ol hardcore players rush too much? Yeah that is a good argument, it worked amazingly well for star wars the old republic. You can get snotty and upset if you want, but there’s plenty of evidence in game to find that this game is pretty shallow in a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I got my moneys worth with this game. However, in the aspect of an MMORPG it starts out good, then once you get to the end game there’s nothing really to do. DE need to reward players more once they reach 80 (rares are all fine, but with a TP that has items 50g + and players making 100g+ off of flipping the market or farming CoF, it doesn’t suffice in the economy). DE need to effect the world more instead of just uncontesting a waypoint, like promised. Fractals need to be reworked to not seem so much like a treadmil. Honestly, doing fractals to get ascended gear to do more fractals…really?
I’m done ranting and I wont argue with you any further, just saying I’ve seen your argument a thousand times. I saw it with swtor, APB, and the secret world, and those all were considered quite poor, resorting to f2p and cash shops to try to recover their players (which worked for the most part).
Look, not coming here to defend the game, but you don’t realize that Arenanet’s business model revolves around fresh updates every month, bring the old and new players alike back to the game.

“This rose has thorns! Here they are!”
For some reason this is the only one I keep hearing whenever I’m in LA.
Sweet jesus, gave me a good laugh!
Just checked some pictures (can’t check vids, at work)
It seems that it creates some kind of lava/molten animation + effect that is quite visible every time you use it. Is this true?
Would this topic have been made if OP got 2 tickets on first 10 chests?
People do FotM for gold? O_o
No I’m doing it for fractal dagger skin. 100+ 48 runs later, still no skin. Hate that dungeon beyond belief and even if I get the skin it isn’t worth this headache. Problem is, I’ve invested too much into it to stop now.
You know, it is like the waiting game while you wait for customer support on the phone.
You wait for 10 mins, then ask yourself “well I waited this long, I can’t hang up now, the whole wait will be for nothing”
20 Mins later still no reply, but you tell yourself the same thing, because you’ll feel stupid if you stop now.
They got you hooked.
This is why I don’t farm for jetpack either.
Well folks, it is time to quit the game.
He got some strong points here, I have completely changed my mind about this game.
Only one thing: i wanna make a twilight, the only thing it’s Literally killing me it’s dusk :\ i will NEVER have 650g do waste on ah, and i burned over 800k karma trying to do it on the mystic forge… how the hell did you guys got your precursors?
Bought.
Which I’m about to do in a week with Dusk as well.
Don’t start a legendary if you don’t have the stomach for it.Actually, it’s not the stuff needer for it that it’s being eh, it’s only the precursor lol
Yes but many people start on this legendary journey, reach 50% and after they got all the required gifts they stop and think a precursor will fall right into their hands.
The precursor might be 1/4th of the recipe, but it doesn’t have to be taken literally as 25% of the legendary’s price. It is in fact 50% of it. (for popular ones)
So you got 50% done, why refuse to work towards the other 50% the same way you got all the gifts? It requires exactly the same amount of work.
Or paying 600g in one bulk is too much to digest for one item? is that the issue here?
Btw, I’m not attacking you or anything, just putting this out.
How come it takes so long to bring them down? even with a bunch of trebs and catas these things won’t go down!
Me and my squad of 20 people couldn’t bring a wall fast enough, resulting in a wipe with 25% of the wall down.
We were very frustrated and considering returning to PvE as protest.
Me and my squad will be looking forward to serious replies on the matter.
People do FotM for gold? O_o
This is how I see the gem shop…
Since I consider farming as a 2nd job and not fun I will ask you:
Do you make in 1 hour enough gold equal to 800 gems (converted back into gold), if the answer is:
A. no – consider converting gems to gold. Since you may as well get a 2nd job in real life and I believe you make over $10 an hour.
B. yes – farm away!what’s the point in making 28 gold an hour? While casually playing I make 14 gold a day or so. I don’t really need more than that. Even if I was saving up I wouldn’t require to save more than that to slowly move towards my goal. 14 gold a day X 100 days = 1400 gold in the bank. That’s a cheap legendary in less than 1/3rd of a year right there.
Hey you got me good there budd! strong argument! what can I say? caught me with my pants down.
Now go ahead and explain that to the rest of the people who complain about how long it takes them to get a legendary.
This is how I see the gem shop…

B. yes – farm away!Aw I can’t do both?
You may, that was my take on things
^^ Good, cause I just keep tossing gold at an empty guild lol. Perhaps soon it won’t be so empty :P
If you get a couple of guild missions, feel free to sell it to me
Actually I solo bought enough influence to have every guild bounty open and ready. I also have everything else to Tier IV or V. All from my own gold >influence from 3 months. ^^ I’d love some help with them lols
Can guild names be changed? (never tried to open one)
I can fund you half a legendary for that guild if you’re interested and the name can be changed
This is how I see the gem shop…
