Definitely was hoping to eventually see Cantha in GW2, and frankly, I don’t see why anyone at a corporate level would be against more opportunities to squeeze longevity (and potentially money) out of players.

As has been already pointed out numerous times there were concerns raised about the cultural representations of Cantha and how they corresponded to real world cultures. You have to keep in mind that the company that own Arenanet and publishes GW2 is an Asian company.

Dragon Bash 2014

Dragon Bash is actually pretty likely.
Part of the Zephyr Sanctum release seems to be about rebuilding LA, and Dragon Bash is meant to be annual. Also Arenanet will be wanting to showcase these types of events to China, hence why we have Zephyr Sanctum and the Crown Pavilion much earlier this year.

Also having a festival amidst a destroyed or partially rebuilt city is not a bad idea at all. it boosts morale and shows the people that even in the wake of ruin they should still keep their spirits up and have reason to celebrate.

In my head, I envision them slowly letting Cantha bleed into the LS through the Zephyrites and their journeys. If only Elona had a similar way of infiltrating the LS, I could rest easy

The Zephyrites have nothing to do with Cantha…

Actually the fact that they trade with Cantha, have heavily Canthan inspired architecture, and that some of them are of Canthan descent suggests that they do…

Judging on the models that were mined (a lot of which are visible in the new Zephyr Sanctum trailer) I think they’re putting more chinese inspired architecture/content into the game and sort of trying to hint at the possibility of Cantha.

It would not be difficult for them to bring Cantha back at all, provided they make the main influence Chinese, which it for the large part already was, so i think the changes to the Sanctum are an indication of good things to come.

Also, as to those speculating that Arenanet would have been in talks with KongZhong for along time – it’s highly unlikely. A Chinese publisher wouldn’t really have been willing to talk to a Western developer without a decent indication that the game had sold well. My personal belief is that their negotiations with KongZhong began quite a bit after launch.

They’re eastern-european accents.

And as far as we know the Largos aren’t part of a secretive order, their race is just split into houses that follow the Tethyos Compact. And personally I think they have some link to Abaddon pre-fall (one of their sayings is almost identical to Abaddons)

@Lux, it’s a different market full of gamers who expect very different things from their games. It might look ridiculous to us, but our models of gaming probably look completely ridiculous to them also.

Not to mention the game being B2P in China is EXTREMELY different. I imagine whether or not they can turn a decent profit and keep the game going long term is a very big question for them right now, so I don’t find it surprising that the gem store plays a bit more of a feature role for them than it does for us. You can kind of rely on western players being happy to stick around and buy things occasionally.

I have the devil horns, so I think they must have been one of the gem store items that were offered for free early on (since I would not have purchased them).

Given that they’re re-released a few gem store skins recently I think we can expect to see others poke their heads again. Though whether the horns will I’m not sure?

The statue looks like a largos because it uses a skin that was originally made as a ‘Risen Largos’ skin. They scrapped the idea of having Risen Largos and used the skin for the statue instead. So it’s sort of coincidence that it looks like a Largos, Dwayna is not a Largos.

Nope it won’t effect the download at all.
If you’re concerned just make a copy of the GW2.app or of the .dat file inside of the app (the .dat is what contains all of the game data) – to access the .dat you just right click on the Guild Wars 2 application, then click “Show Package Contents” then Contents>>Resources>>transgamng>>C Drive>>GW2. Then just duplicate the .dat and drag the copy to the desktop. (then if anything goes wrong you can paste the copy back into the folder.

It’s quite possible that your internet service provider limits certain kinds of traffic, because there is nothing about the app itself that would make it download slowly.

Mayan and Aztec architecture was an insipration for the Asura’s architecture – so that’s a no go…

I also don’t think having the Tengu take over makes sense. They all migrated to the Dominion of Winds, that is their home now, I don’t think they would want Cantha considering how they were treated. Not to mention Cantha isn’t even necessarily the home land of the Tengu. The Tengu came from all over the world – Tyria, Cantha and Elona (an NPC in GW2 says Elona, so I guess we have to believe them even though we never saw them there)

1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.

Try that. This is not deleting the app, it’s deleting certain files the launcher uses and forcing it to rebuild itself.

To be fair GW1 was far more horizontal progression based than GW2 is (a fact I personally lament), so it was absolutely necessary for them to put out more campaigns at a quick pace. There’s also the fact that GW1 could put out new content without it pulling players away from the old content, if GW2 were to release an expansion then the population on current maps, dungeons and story would drop to absolutely nothing.

So it is a bit of a predicament they are in. Release new content and pull players away from old content making the game less appealing to new players and making the world a lot less ‘living’ than it is – or stick with the current content while adding smaller additions progressively to keep the numbers steady.

Just a heads up. The percentage is for the number of files downloaded in that particular sitting. So if you close the client at 22%, and then reopen it, it will ignore the 22% you downloaded already and the percentage will go back to 0% – though since you’ve already downloaded 22% you will have less files to download. Sorry if that was a workabout way of explaining it. Fried brain at the moment.

As to getting the installer to run.

I would suggest trying to delete your gw2 folder in Application Support inside your user Library.

The game took so long between announcement and release because they actually announced it the second they started working on it.

Most MMO’s aren’t announced until relatively far into development, hence why the time seems shorter between then and release.

Arenanet have consistently pushed out content at a far faster speed than any other AAA MMO I’ve seen…

FlamingFoxx.1305

Actually I’m pretty sure that we do know that the Dragons are intelligent Sentient beings.
The fact that they can communicate through their minions confirms that. Jormag has to be intelligent to have been able to know that having the Sons of Svanir follow it would be extremely helpful to its cause, rather than just relying on flying about killing/transforming things.

Glint also talks about Kralkatorrik being angry or whatever. Anger/any emotion is a product of the capacity to think/react. e.g. trees do not have anger, the wind does not have anger.

Arenanet already made GW1, that’s why GW2 is different, what would the point of GW2 have been if it was just the same game set in the future? They may as well have just made more GW1 expansions.

If you want to play GW1 then go play GW1!

You’re making a huge assuption that all the good groups play at a specific time of day. This is a worldwide game, there are players on at all hours of the day. You’re not going to miss out on the “good groups”.

If your guild doesn’t want to run fractals with you, find a different guild.

a precursor doesn’t have anything to do with the social aspects of the game.

Your personal experience is unfortunate, but you’re making a lot of generalisations.

Personally I have found GW2 to be an incredibly social game. I’m in a great guild and I enjoy running around maps and coming across random players. I’ve helped out a lot of players, and I’ve been helped out. I’ve played alongside players and had great conversations, and I’ve played alongside players and never spoken – which can be a poignant experience like in Journey.

The game isn’t anti social. Perhaps you are?

Oh, there’s nothing wrong with Panda’s, but there were huge cultural issues over having Pandas in game that could be killed. Apparently China did not allow for the representation of dead endangered species, though Panda’s were added back into the game in later years after it was closed in most/all Asian regions.

You need considerably more than 30GB’s…
GW2 is 20GB, and as far as I am away Windows 7 and 8 both take up around 16GB of space.
So 36GB might just get you by, but you’re pushing it. 40-50 would be safer.

(Also, being a really nasty nitpicker here: irregardless is the most stupid word of all time, it literally just means regardless, so you may as well just say “regardless”. They only put irregardless in the dictionary because people don’t seem to understand how redundant of a word it is. Irregardless is actually incorrect english by modern standards.)

The Krytan Drakehound for instance has evidently been bred for a specific purpose.
Also you can’t have more dog pets unless you increase the skin possibilities for other pets as well, which would just get a bit out of hand.

It stands to reason that since there is no religious doctrine that takes issue with sexuality that we can observe in Tyria – there is no issue.

@Nageth. GW1 was made when apple computers still used PPC processors, so it wasn’t short sited on Arenanet’s side, or any other developers, PPC made things a lot harder to work with. Apple shifted to Intel processors a few years after GW1’s was released.

Question: Chinese Character Input

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

I think you would have to change the system language in order for it to possibly work. Though it’s possible it wouldn’t work then anyway, you’re not really meant to be typing in Chinese in GW2, Only European languages are supported officially (and of course you can type in any language that uses the same characters).

A programs ability to display characters from other languages is dependent on that program, It’s quite possible that the fonts and formats that GW2 uses don’t allow foreign characters to be input, e.g. if the font does not have a chinese equivalent then it has no way of displaying, obviously.

If you are Chinese and wanted to play with other Chinese players you would be better off playing on the Chinese version of the game, rather than on the NA/EU servers.

But we know it’s most likely Modremoth, given the cinematic at the end of the Living Story.

Also you can’t really get players to pick which dragon we should fight next, that would detract from the idea that the world is living. Player choices need to be initiated through logical things, such as the cut throat politics election. In the context of an election it made sense for the players choice to have an impact on what happened in the game world. But picking which dragon to fight doesn’t make sense, the answer should automatically be either both or which ever one is a greater threat at the moment.
