Race Change Option?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FlamingFoxx.1305

It has an impact on how the games code understands your character. The game needs to know what choices you have made, it doesn’t matter if it never impacts on the game after that point, the coding still requires that those choices were made.

The “race change” in instances is purely cosmetic, all the game does at those points is change your physical appearance, all of your personal story information and the way NPC’s would respond to you out in the open world would still treat you as your original race.

I get what you’re saying, yes it would be super easy for them to cosmetically change your race, but the game engine needs more than just the cosmetic change. If they left all your personal story past choices intact then there would be a huge discontinuity since your race is no longer what it was, and simply saying that your past is a mystery is incredibly problematic in a game that is very much story and lore based.

It’s not going to happen, there is a reason it hasn’t already happened. It’s nowhere near as simple as you seem to think and I’m not going to argue it anymore. Good luck

I think Jeremy’s work in Prophecies and EoTN was great, but the Cantha and Nightfall soundtracks weren’t extremely memorable for me.

I think MD’s pieces are a lot more interesting. I’m not sure I could say I prefer either, they both just have a different feel and for where GW2 is headed I think MD’s music makes perfect sense. He’s doing a great job.

Short answer it will run great. Max out all the RAM you can afford, it can’t be upgraded later, and do get a i7 processor if you plan to keep it for some years,

Mine is:
iMac 27 Late 2013, Intel Core i7, 3,5 GHz, 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 780M – 4GB, Fusion Drive. (and I haven’t had a glitch in performance at all)

Whaaat. I thought that most of the new iMacs did have upgradeable RAM

The loud noise is just the fans, I’ve been playing the game since it was released on my MBP (late 2011) and I’ve never had any problems with overheating. Obviously if you can lower the temperature of the room the computer is in then it will help a lot. I do get scared playing in summer because it makes the fans run a lot faster :S, but it’s been fine.

Race Change Option?

FlamingFoxx.1305

Saying that they CAN’T do is bullkitten. 16 years ago in UO you ran through a quest line that allowed you to “embrace your Elvish heritage” and gave you the option to change your race from Human to Elf.

They could do it.

You’re talking about a completely different game built on a completely different Engine with different systems that handles race in a different way. In GW2 your race is not purely cosmetic. It is a lot harder for them to do. Yes they COULD if they wanted to, but it would require a lot of time and resources that is better spent on other aspects of the game. If you picked the wrong race then that is your own problem, nothing is stopping you from making a new character, you can transfer virtually everything over to that new character and levelling to 80 and completing the personal story doesn’t even take that long.

Race Change Option?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

No there will never be a race change option. Arenanet have directly stated that their systems don’t have the capabilities to support this.

It is a LOT more complex than people seem to think. Even if you make it so that the character has to have completed the personal story the game still needs to know which paths to assign them to, which it can’t do without letting the player make those choices, which would require replaying the entire storyline, which is akin to creating a new character from scratch.

Dawdler, that doesn’t solve any problems because it makes no sense from a lore perspective to say that they skipped that arc because they were “raised as adoptive race” (and don’t go saying that a gender change makes no sense because it actually doesn’t raise any problems whatsoever.) And that story text is more than just story text because every single path the player chose has been coded into the game and affects a lot more than what text is shown to you in your story panel. Unless you have direct experience coding in a AAA MMO then you don’t really have any clue how much effort it takes for them to put each tiny bit of code in game. Heck, they had to give an NPC in one of the living story cutscenes an identical response over and over again just because to put in the code for her to have a unique response each time would have been ridiculously complex.

Command Line Arguments Not Working

FlamingFoxx.1305

I don’t think you can perform the diag command on OSX. Diag requires software/capabilities that are external to the game client itself, so I don’t think that GW2 running in a cider wrapper has the capability to create that kind of log file.

I’m sure this has nothing to do with it, but underneath ClientBuild yours has the number 1, whereas mine has the number 5. So you could try changing it to a 5 in the vain hope that it does something _.

Also, get rid of the semi colon here: <string>http://cider.ncplatform.net/Live</string>;
It shouldn’t be there, and it is possible that it’s causing some kind of error.

Honestly if you can run it on windows then do so, the game runs far far far better. It also shouldn’t really lessen the life. The only thing you would have to worry about is battery cycle counts, but even then windows isn’t using much more power than OSX so you shouldn’t have to worry. Just make sure the laptop is plugged in while she’s playing.

There is a PRIVATE test server, which is better than a public test server, and is tested by a select few gamers who can be trusted by Arenanet net to panic about content then may or may not be released.

Public test servers end up getting used by people who just want to have first access to content, rather than people who will constructively help that content be perfected.

Each and everyone one of the countries have “unlimited downloads”. I’m actually surprised to see that any country in the world would have “limited downloads” only, lol.

It’s not that uncommon. ISP are for profit companies, they get more money from you by charging for smaller data plans and then charging you again when you go over.

Up until maybe two years ago you would have struggled to get over 100GB in NZ, and most ISP’s had plans of 20GB or 30GB as standard.

If it still isn’t working either file a bug in the bug forum, or submit a support ticket. This problem could in no way be caused by the OSX client, since it is identical to the windows client.

You know that it costs money, time and human resources to create a native client. They’ve obviously decided that the number of mac users is not worth the time and money that would need to be spent. Not to mention they would have to physically hire people who had a completely different skill set. Yes the wrapper is a pain, but it makes it a lot easier for Arenanet to provide a consistent experience.

I agree that the “beta” tag is a bit misleading, but honestly what do you expect them to do, release a buggy port as a proper release and then have to deal with the legal issues of delivering a product that does not work as advertised.

@Marcus, yes all of that is true, but they genuinely did take a much longer time to run even excluding all of that.

If you picked an area where you could run in a straight line for 10 minutes without hitting enemies in GW1 you could easily do so and not reach the other end of the map – in GW2 if you run for 10 minutes in a straight line (not hitting anything including enemies) you’re going to get from one end of the map to the other quite easily. GW2 has much faster running speeds which makes the maps comparatively smaller.

They might be willing to use the pirates as a means to an end for a little while, but at some point they’re going to want to turn them to Nightmare or kill them – and I don’t see why a group of pirates would allow someone that unstable into their midst (Scarlet being an exception since she had the means to fund them and offered them power etc.)

Was Snaff an elementalist or mesmer?

“Snaff specialized in the creation of enormous combat golems, but many of his smaller inventions focused on using telepathic control instead of machines”

“Snaff grappled with the mind of the Elder Dragon directly”

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Snaff

I’d guess Mesmer with all that mind manipulation.

Excelsior! Thank you very much!

Also, this would have made Snaff the most powerful Asura mesmer in GW2 history. None of the lesser dragons (Claw of Jormag, Teq, Shatter, etc) would have had anything over Snaff… he grappled the mind of an elder dragon. What does that say about about present day mesmers? Much, much weaker. If Snaff could hold his own against an elder dragon, where does that put the rest of us?

Some mesmers are more powerful than others – e.g. Jennah and Countess Anise. Also Snaff grappled with it sure, but he couldn’t hold proper control, hence Kralk’s minions killing him.

When do we figure out our "Profession?"

in Lore

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Well, I realise that it’s partly due to mechanics, but I would be inclined to say that a person figures out their profession whenever they decide to.

In GW1 the story sort of treats it as if you’ve just recently decided on your profession at the beginning of the game, and if you go off the character models that could be anywhere between the age of 20-35. GW2 operates in a similar way I guess, from the age/point of character creation you start learning your profession. Of course there are children who have professions seen in both GW1 and 2, so I would seriously just chalk it down to people having a particular affinity or making a choice.

Professions can also be changed if you go along with what happened to Kieran Thackeray in GW1 – so it’s not like the decision you make as a child is necessarily going to pigeon hole you into one profession for the rest of your life.

?? Care to expand on what you don’t understand?
With Mordremoth having been awakened he joins Zhatain, Primordius, Kralk, Jormag, and the Deep Sea Dragon. That covers all of the zones in the Crucible of Eternity and provides quite a bit of content for Arenanet to create and cover since we have to defeat all of those and they’re stated clearly before that they would never have us kill more than one dragon a year (and it would most likely be longer gaps in between). So why would we expect there to be any more dragons for quite some time? Especially given that there is usually a gap of 50 or so in game years between their awakenings.

If the “do not post personal speculation…” bit is what confused you – go read the OP. The way they word everything sounds as if they somehow know what is going to be released. They aren’t offering them as suggestions or conjecture, they’re making statements – statements which are false/highly unlikely.

Finally Return to Maguuma!

in Living World

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Do not post personal speculation as fact. There is absolutely nothing to suggest new weapons, dungeons, trinkets or a city. Why would there be a new city?

Why would there be a profession native to the Maguuma? As far as we know it’s no longer lived in, aside from bandits and inquest.

Why would the Zephyrites build a “permanent” settlement in order to restore their ship, they might build a TEMPORARY settlement, but once they’re up in the air they’re gone.

You’re all wrong about a new dragon awakening each season. We had good evidence to suggest that Mordremoth existed before his awakening at the end of season 1. All of the dragons are now awake, if there are more they aren’t going to be introduced for years to come.

2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.

If you purchased a kit and changed your eye colour and the game then changed it to red or whatever, and that was not intended, file a support ticket. Actually CPU is more important than GPU in GW2. The game isn’t incredibly well optimised leading it to be far more CPU intensive. Just make sure you don’t get a mac with an intel graphics card because you’re basically kittening yourself.

But yeah, the iMac you’ve suggested should play GW2 extremely well. I know a lot of people who have purchased more recent iMacs have got far far far superior FPS to anyone else – like, around the same as playing in windows.

I’m not sure upgrading the graphics card is completely necessary, the game is 32bit and is inside a cider port, so it won’t utilise all of the vRAM – not even close to it. (But if you’re going to play other native OSX games then it may be worth your money, just not if it is solely for GW2 or other games that have been ported inside a wrapper).
