What happens if you try alt+tabbing out of GW2 and then back in?
Thanks for letting us know what you have tried.
How long does he game usually let you play before this happens?
I would say it is just coincidence.
Circles are not exactly uncommon in architecture.
So I should expect the performance fox mentioned on the beta client? Thanks!
Also, I am now at 75% O.o. Download jumped a ton overnight.
It’s probably worth pointing out that the download percentage relates to the percentage of files downloaded, rather than the size. So the first few files the client downloaded were probably much larger files (hence the progress going slowly). This applies to patches/updates as well. Not a great system as it isn’t very indicative of how much time is left :S
Exactly as Sammael says, make sure you are logging in with your account email address and password, not with the forum/username thingy. If you already were doing that then make sure that any symbols in either your email (including the @ symbol) and password are showing up. There have been issues in the past with people who have non-US keyboards not being able to get certain symbols to show up when hey try and log in.
Living Story season 2 is done in episodes, if you log in during an episode you unlock it forever for free. So logging in now will unlock episode 3 – but if you want to play 1&2 you would need to pay for them. They don’t have any huge rewards or anything, so I would only pay for them if you want to play through those story arcs.
PvP can be played pretty much instantly, when you switch to PvP your level, skills and traits are all scaled up to level 80. WvW is a different story, your level is scaled up but your skills and gear are not, so you might want to wait till you level up a bit.
You’ll probably need to lower the settings for PvP and WvW, but the visual quality should still be ok, just not insanely pretty. WvW zergs pretty much kill your FPS regardless unfortunately :S
I personally don’t use the mac beta client, bootcamp is just soo much faster, but if it isn’t an option for you then the mac beta should work out just fine
I have the same MBP as you and the performance is decent. If you put everything to max you’d end up fluctuating around 15-35fps, it really depends on the area. But if you put everything at mid (the game still looks great) it should run really well.
Honestly, if you can install Windows via bootcamp and run GW2 through there I would suggest doing so. It’s what I do and the fps is much much higher at max settings, since it is actually a decent laptop.
I pretty much completely agree with everything you’re said. The amount of work/effort that they’ve put into each release is truly admirable, but the writing and world building is kind of shocking.
The treaty between the Charr and Humans is still in place, having no ghosts in Ascalon doesn’t change that. The treaty was in place because the dragons were a threat, not the ghosts. The ghosts are just an annoyance for the Charr, it doesn’t really have anything to do with Ebonhawke, except maybe from a morale standpoint.
Wow, super weird that it doesn’t show up for you in the Energy Saver tab :S
If you open spotlight and type “System Information” and open that program (it’s faster than navigating there through the apple menu) then go to the Graphics/Displays tab do both the integrated intel card and your other graphics card show up in the list? I think some of the machines listed on the apple support site do actually have specific configurations where only an intel graphics card is installed, in which case there is no graphics switching. But since the OP has an identical MBP to mine it should definitely show up for them
(edited by FlamingFoxx.1305)
That should not be happening to you, I have the same mac and haven’t had that problem :S.
Like Michael says, try doing an SMC reset (A PRAM reset might also be worth a try.)
Also you don’t need any of the fancy programs Michael suggested to stop it from changing graphics card – Just open up System Preferences then go to the Energy Saver tab and uncheck Automatic Graphics switching – having it unchecked will force your computer to use the AMD graphics card all the time.
+1 to this. It’s the one question that is always avoided and it is the one in most need of an answer.
Good point Todd. My comment can be disregarded then since the machine obviously isn’t a powermac.
NCoft west who are the publisher are not based in South Korea. The parent company NCoft East is, but that doesn’t have mic of an impact. The reason NCoft west exists is because they know that they need a proper US subset of their company because they aren’t familiar with what the market needs or demands. So whether I not Koreans only use windows is irrelevant.
There was an existing thread. If I weren’t on my phone I would link it to you. Please stop assuming that I must be wrong just because you can’t be bothered to scroll through pages of content.
This was only on the second page https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/OS-X-10-10-Yosemite/first#post4136598 and regardless of whether or not the issue was solved it quite clearly showed people having issues. Nothing I said was incorrect if you disagree that is fine but it is not ok to personally attack someone because you disagree with them. Nor is it ok to start telling them the should leave.

Jatoro refers quite ambiguously to sea life trapped within the jade.
The Jade sea was once a sea of water, so when it was turned to jade all of the creatures that lived within its waters were frozen inside the jade – you can observe this in Factions where we see dolphins and leviathans trapped in the jade.
So Jatoro doesn’t really have a lot to do with it, the Maw is likely just one of the many creatures that was trapped within the jade.
If you haven’t already played GW1 Factions then you might be interested in doing so since a decent amount of the game takes place on the Jade Sea.
Not too long ago, anyone can die at any given moment. Diseases, hunger, and murder was a way worse problem then than it is now. Life expectancy is incredibly low of course. That didn’t exactly prevent them from being bigots, racists, sexists, and especially homophobes though.
Actually in certain countries during various historical points homosexuality was a non-issue. Of course that isn’t to say that homophobia is a modern problem, but it’s a complex issue.
I’m not sure what you mean with them not keeping up – mine are never far behind me. They don’t have a speed cap I don’t think, so they shouldn’t end up lagging behind.
But I agree with everything else. They become incredibly pointless outside of solo play because we have no control over their actions and they just get stomped on by AoE.
Just checking, are you sure you mean a PowerMac? They were discontinued in 2005 and run on PPC processors (as opposed to intel), so even if you replace the GPU and CPU I’m not sure the game will run incredibly well :S.
I’d just like to point out that the ONLY reason I still play Guild Wars 2 is because it runs on OS X. I simply cannot be bothered to reboot to a windows installation for gaming any more.
You may want to get some more cross platform expertise in your team for your future developments… i know South Korea is entrenched with Windows, but you can do better than a Wine wrapper.
The game isn’t operating in South Korea, just the US, Europe and China. Other than that I wholeheartedly agree. The lack of support is silly.
Oh look, I wasn’t wrong.
Sorry that purging the application support folder didn’t work for you Gorillapaws, hopefully the issue resolves itself at some point.
The graphics drivers that bootcamp installs are usually quite outdated – the easiest way to observe this is to go to an area with a lot of trees, turn shadows up to high and then see if you get distinct shadows or if it is just a blurry mess. If you just google your graphics card + bootcamp drivers you ckittenually find a link (I can’t just give you a link since I have no idea if you have an nVIDIA or ATI graphics card)
The mod you’re talking about is probably just the “GW2 combat mod” – once again, googling it will give you what you’re looking for
What race you pick has no bearing on your characters stats, so it is as Diovid points out mainly a cosmetic choice – with the exception of the storyline and a couple of racial skills which do differ across races.
If you could elaborate on the crash it would be helpful.
Do you get an error message or does the game just close itself and then give you the standard apple crash report? When you say it kicks you out of your profile do you mean that sometimes the game crashing logs you out of your OS X user account and returns you to the apple login screen?
The only thing I can suggest without knowing more would be to try it again and turn your graphics to the lowest settings and especially put the character limit/quality settings to the lowest (so that fewer other players around you are rendered). That way we can see if overheating or anything like that has anything to do with the problem, or if it is something specific about the triggering of that event/that area that causes it.
when I suggested we have an audience with the pale tree, they rebuke that I’m ‘reknown, but not that famous’, and ourcharacters replies something along the lines of ’we’ll find a way.’
To be fair, the rest of the gang wasn’t with us then, so they probably don’t know we met the Pale Tree before.
This. There will probably be a moment with the Pale Tree saying “We meet again, my child,” at which point the rest of the team will go, “You know the Pale Tree?”
at which point all the sylvari PCs will roll their eyes and answer “should i be shocked that your respective mothers know you?”
…and then everyone gets really offended, because i just realized our group is composed of (at least) 60% orphans.
Amateur writing 101. Orphans are easier for people to identify with because their problems specifically relate to them rather than to family members. They are also more independent individuals, lending them a decent amount of escapist joy. It’s why in a decent amount of adolescent fiction (film, tv, video games and books) the characters either don’t have parents, or their parents are non-figures in the plot.

There are threads where people have had issues with Yosemite. They may have been pushed back a couple of pages and they may not say Yosemite in the title, but they are there.
Apple supports in the beta in terms of software, but beta operating systems can cause hardware issues. There are plenty of people whose systems have been bricked by Yosemite (just go look at the macrumors forums). So yeah, most people don’t have problems. But operating systems in non final release states historically are only for developers specifically because they can have serious machine breaking issues. Seriously, even final releases can have serious issues, there have been times that Apple has had to pull updates because they’ve caused user data to be deleted etc. My comments are completely valid. If you don’t have a legitimate reason to test Yosemite then you should really just wait for it to be publicly/finally released when it is fully supported.
I repeat, I never said it WOULDN’T work on Yosemite, I pointed out that people had had problems and that if you do use Yosemite and run into problems (either with GW2 or Yosemite) then nobody can do an awful lot to help you out.
Just because you perceived something in a certain way doesn’t mean it is that way. I’d appreciate it if you left personal attacks out of this, they don’t help anyone.
Yosemite is a beta and you should never ever install it on your main machine. Yeah it is quite possible that the game will continue to work as it has been, but there have been people who have had problems, and if you have a serious problem you can’t get support either from Apple or from Arenanet – because it is a beta OS and you are installing at your own risk.
The only reason to install a beta is if you have a genuine reason to test out features. So pretty much, unless you’re a developer why would you need to install an incomplete, unoptimised operating system…
Players world really hard to earn the HoM skins, if hugely out them on the gem store you completely negate that. If you want the skins go pick up GW1.
Is it crashing specifically while in the new Dry Top map, or just in general regardless of what area of the game you are in?
My machine has around the same specs, except it is late 2011 and only has 4GB of RAM. I get around 35-40 FPS on average with everything turned to high (including Shaders, Shadows, and Post Processing). The exception to that are WvW which obviously runs a bit slower when there are a ton of people on the map, and also the new Dry Top map (and to a lesser degree Southsun) which is a little more taxing and requires me to turn Shaders and Shadows down to maintain my FPS.
Suggestion – quit all other problems when you’re running GW2. See all of those programs up the top of your menu bar, they’re eating up precious RAM and Processing power.
TCMalloc is related to memory processing, so all I can think is that GW2 doesn’t have access to enough memory (It’s 32bit and can only access 3GB of RAM, so it’s really vital that those 3GB are available for it). I’m not coding literate though, so I can’t give you any certain answers. I’d suggest filing a support ticket and giving them all of the text from that error/crash box.
Windows 8 scores consistently lower in gaming benchmarks than Windows 7 (Running on the same hardware). So yeah, some people may find that Windows 8 works better for them, but that’s often very machine specific and it can come down to something as simple as installing Windows 8 removing some of the bloat that had accumulated on their computers over years.
Uh, I don’t think any Windows OS will support your SSD? But I’m not super knowledgeable on that.
In general 64bit Windows 7 is your best bet in terms of performance for GW2.
GW2 has never been supported in Crossover.
At launch the Crossover community was really good at trying to get the game to work well and managed to smooth out a lot of glitches, they had to release versions of Crossover specific to GW2 that addressed some issues though – versions that were accessible only from the crossover forums (as in, they didn’t push the GW2 fixes as a new Crossover release).
Once the mac beta dropped they stopped trying to get it to work in Crossover, I guess it became pretty obvious that they would struggle to get new purchasers from GW2 since they would more likely use the free OSX Beta. So I think there were a lot of things that didn’t work, or didn’t work well in Crossover that never got fixed.
A quick look on the forums indicates that there are still some things that don’t work (especially if you have an NVIDIA graphics card, ATI and Intel usually worked pretty well from personal experience). It’s also important to note that it is still a Wine port and so suffers from some of the exact same issues and limitations as this Cider port. (e.g. it is 32 bit only and issues with the trading post and the mouse aren’t uncommon.)
My support for Crossover has expired, so I don’t have access to the latest version, otherwise I’d test it for you. But the key thing to take away – it isn’t supported officially on Crossover (as in the Crossover team doesn’t support the game), so if it doesn’t work you might not be able to do anything to fix it.
Temperature wise Crossover is about the same as the OSX port if I remember correctly. The reason the fans go up so much is because your computer is running both Crossover/Cider and GW2, and on top of that it is running them in 32 bit.
- If you can play in bootcamp then do it, I gave in a long time ago. It’s worth taking the time to restart your computer since the performance is so much better.
Without knowing exactly where you read it and what the sources were nobody can say. We recently got a post from a developer in the Lore forums stating that any lore found outside of the game, e.g. developer interviews, is subject to change. So it’s quite possible they can just go back on anything they’ve said and edit it to suit what they’re presently trying to achieve. Unfortunately a lot of the information we have comes from interviews…
Basically what Azrael said, but you do have to complete all of the steps to get rid of the tracker (I think anyway).
We don’t know exactly where humans came from originally.
Just to clarify, humans appeared on Elona and Tyria at the same time (and were brought there by the Gods), it is only in Cantha that they existed before the arrival of the gods.
I’ve just had a look back at the original citations and in the Guild Wars Prophecies manual and it never says anything more than the gods brought humanity to the world – of course it is important to point out that ‘the world’ at that point in time would have referred only to continental Tyria, so it could be quite possible that the gods simply brought humans from Cantha up to Tyria and Elona.
The Gods came from somewhere in the Mists, once again we don’t know exactly where from.
(Also just wanted to point out that the map you showed is not necessarily canon, and that the lower half of Cantha where you’ve written Kurzick/Luxon has never been an area we have had access to. Cantha in GW1 actually cut off a little further up from there)
They already were part of the in game universe. Since launch there has been NPC dialogue that talks about how and why they were invented.
Those are the exact same problems people were experiencing back on Mountain Lion, and before that on Lion. They are specifically Mavericks related issues, they’re just issues with the game. The only specifically Mavericks related issue was an issue where the game launcher wouldn’t update to the most recent version (preventing people from playing), but that was fixed a while back.
The unfortunate point is that the GW2 OSX client has a kitten load of problems, regardless of your computer or your OSX. There are plenty of people who have managed to run the game without ever encountering an issue or needing to get help (myself included), but since this is a support forum obviously all that is seen in here is people who do have problems.
So it’s kind of a gamble, it’s quite probable that you’d be able to run the game just fine and never encounter an issue (forums always represent a minority of players so there are likely a lot of OSX players who play the game just fine and never have reason to seek help on the forums), but there is of course the possbility that you will come across some kind of error or problem.
File a support ticket :S
When exactly does the error show up? Like, does the launcher appear then let you enter your details then deliver an error message after you click login?
The passage was them trying to make some kind of link in personality between Varesh Ossa and Scarlet in order to make Scarlet seem like a more compelling/cunning villain. It was just a super sad way to try and achieve that…
Thanks for the replies and heads up. It really seems like there are major problems with GW2 and Mavericks… After posting this I found several old unresolved threads about it not running or having other issues. It’s really a shame.
Those are old threads, all issues with GW2 running on Mavericks were resolved relatively shortly after Mavericks was ACTUALLY released.
It is entirely possible that is was because of the DDoS that you couldnt log in – its been going on for over 12 hours and it affects people differently. I know a lot of people who experience continual disconnects from the game, whereas for me i dont ever get disconnected but instead i experince frequent rubber banding, skill lag, and get stuck on terrain. So honestly, i wouldnt worry about it since it is fine now.
kitten blocks swear words, so if you typed a word that has something that could be read as a profanity then it gets turned into kitten.
Also, while some people would pay for this, I don’t think the number of people would justify the cost of getting all of it acted and implementing the technology to let the voice be changed. Voice acting is incredibly expensive.
No there are no voice packs. The voice acting was done by pretty prolific people, and it is a LOT of voice acting, it would cost them a ton to get it all redone by other people just so that players could pick a voice.
No folder in Application Support called “Guild Wars 2” anything for me either. I’ve seen other people saying the same thing.
You’re in the wrong Application Support folder then. There are multiple and you need your user one, which is hidden.
Open Finder then click “Go” in the menu bar now if you press and hold the option key you should see “Library” appear in the drop down menu under ‘Go’. Click Library, now inside there is an Application Folder support – and this is the one that should have a Guild Wars 2 folder which you can delete.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/38813526-Common-Error-Codes
You could try the stuff there?
Honestly the server is under a DDoS attack right now anyway, so you wouldn’t be able to play -_-
you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.
To access this:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.
Follow those instructions TO THE LETTER. If that doesn’t work then come back and say so because you have a genuine problem which needs to be figured out
It has been explicitly stated by the devs that Zhaitan is dead. He is dead. Dead dead dead.
@ Nabuko, the dragons absorb energy, they don’t necessarily naturally possess it – so yes Zhaitans energy is leached back into the world, but that doesn’t mean it goes anywhere specific. It just means there is now more magic in the world, it’s not too different to how the bloodstone was created which limited magic etc.
Nope, BUT you could use /bug which allows you to submit a detailed bug report and allows the game to take a screenshot of where you are – so that is possibly the best thing to do?
Well it’s not human pov, it’s just not a Sylvari pov. So yeah, it was kind of annoying. But I THINK they were trying to imply that the Pale Tree is super busy so in spite of your reputation you still need to basically request an audience. They just didn’t convey it that well and it made Kasmeer look like an imbecile considering as the Sylvari who defeated Zhaitan we are sort of one of her most important children -_-
