No, in short I don’t think they should add more Hearts to the game.
I understand Hearts and I appreciate what Anet was trying to do with them. But they are a mechanism for getting players to explore all areas of maps (basically giving you a reason to go through the decent number of maps and areas that your personal story never takes you).
Hearts have almost zero lore/story value and the fact that they can be completed before you even talk to the corresponding NPC (who delivers any story relating to the heart) is a huge problem. There have been times when I have walked into an area and completed one single dynamic event – and the heart has completed – meaning that I’ve had to look on the wiki for the dialogue.
Dynamic events do a better job of delivering story/lore, but the fact that they repeat at an incredibly quick rate cheapens them.
I don’t want to say that Arenanet might do better by adding a few quests into the game, because I admire what they’re trying to do and traditional Quests also have their fare share of problems. But I definitely don’t think that adding more Hearts is a good idea. Going forward I think they’re better off concentrating on the continuing story and making sure that they add NPC’s with good dialogue to deliver lore, and also adding or tweaking Dynamic events into old areas.
OSX users do not have a native port, so I don’t see why they would create one for Linux. They’ve been officially supporting the game on OSX running through a cider wrapper (aka wine) since close to launch, if they were willing to make a native Linux port of the game then they would first make a native OSX port…
(Also I think you’re grossly overestimating how popular steamOS/steambox will be – GW2 is aimed at a more casual MMO audience, that’s not really something that steamOS caters to.)
@Pessimist, I don’t think the Asura would ever do that. They view themselves as inherently superior to the other races, if they were to acknowledge that they lack strength then they would also point out that their high levels of intellect render strength unnecessary (and so on and so forth). Also they certainly wouldn’t include the empathy of the Sylvari, I’m sure that to Asura empathy is seen as a weakness.
Exactly what Zaxares said….
The only inherent difference between someone who is heterosexual and someone who is homosexual is that one prefers people of the opposite gender and one prefers people of the same gender.
Also I don’t see how on earth that would alter the rating of the game. GW2 is rated T for Teen. If you want a comparison, the Sims 3 is also rated T for Teen, and that is a game in which you can make people go through all the steps that lead up to human reproduction… To suggest that including the option of giving players ‘LGBT personalities’ (putting aside the fact that the notion of that is ridiculous) would somehow make the game inappropriate to a teen audience is incredibly problematic and rude.
The Sons of Svanir are servants of Jormag, it wouldn’t make any sense for them to be in the story.
There have been plenty of Norn characters involved, there just isn’t a dedicated Norn organisation – but nor has there been a dedicated Human, Charr or Sylvari organisation involved, but the Aetherblades have members from all of the races.
Yeah I think Jerus has hit the nail on the head, their damage is reduced to 0 because they cannot be knocked off an area and that would be exploitable.
That being said, I personally just sat on the outer ring waiting until everyone else got Nochtli’s damage down, then I jumped up at the last moment and did some damage and got credit for the not falling off achievement… So they may as well just let pets inflict damage because it’s not like you can’t work around it anyway xD.
I was sort of under the impression that sand is moving around because of some other kind of movement/activity – because if you look around the map there are large piles on top of the cliffs that are slowly trickling down to form that river, which wouldn’t make any sense unless the sand had been moved recently.
@Rym, Dry Top is only a fraction of a map, you can see on the left and top edges that we haven’t uncovered the rest yet – it’s blurred in the same way that undiscovered areas are blurred, rather than in the same way that inaccessible areas are. That’s also why it presently won’t tell you how many vista’s and PoI’s there are on the map – because there are more to come.
So the map itself isn’t small, we just only have access to a small part of it right now. Once it’s all opened up it should be around the same size as every other map in the game.
Bottom line – they can’t please everyone.
The only time standard I know how to convert into my own time is GMT, which is never used. I know UTC is the most commonly used worldwide, but I have no clue how it works.
And I’ve just now learnt that UTC and GMT are mostly interchangeable -cries-.
They’ve already stated multiple times that Living World releases are their preferred form of content release, meaning that they will most likely continue putting out new living world seasons throughout the games life.
It’s not as if they’re only planning three seasons or something, it doesn’t work like that, the “seasons” are just to give an indication of where one storyline closes and a new one opens. We will just keep getting new seasons until the game dies.
+1, I don’t want to physically play in first person and I understand that they don’t want people to. But this is incredibly horrible for anyone who likes taking screenshots. I love my character, but I don’t want them right in the middle of every single screenshot, sometimes I see a cool sight and I want to take a screenshot that represents what my character can SEE.
Yeah Lethalvriend is right. We saw this a lot in GW1 actually, Verata for instance was able to create Necromancer minions with an extended/unlimited life span, Duncan the Black was able to summon an incredibly large number of Ritualist spirits etc. It’s no different to how bosses in GW2 have their own skills, different people use magic in different ways – it’s just that the PC’s need to have some standardised and balanced sense of magic. Bone bridges would be pointless/cheap, and a blink teleport for Mesmers would be incredibly OP.
(Also, cool video Mad Queen Malafide)
Um.. “only” 50FPS. You have to be kidding right. Most people are struggling to get over 25-30FPS. If you’re getting 50 you are insanely lucky and I don’t understand why you would need it to be any higher, the human eye. A range of 30-60FPS is usually considered more than sufficient in video games and only very specific games and very specific machines are going to get you any higher than that.
At 50FPS the animations should be incredibly smooth so your eye shouldn’t be able to perceive any jerkiness in the motion, and having a higher FPS doesn’t improve visual quality, it just makes movements look smooth.
So yeah, long story short, you’re probably not going to get any higher than 50, even if you ran the game in bootcamp I don’t think you’d get much more than 60. But it shouldn’t matter at all.
When I heard Nochtli telling the story all I could think of was that episode in Season 1 of Pokemon where Snorlax sits at the top of a river and it all dries up and they have to try and lure it away with food or something. I think your version probably makes more sense :P
They only give us home instance crafting nodes for things that can’t be crafted anywhere else. The Cactus plants aren’t going anywhere since Dry Top is a permanent map, so we won’t get them in the home instance.
She’s talking about the past, so it’s quite possible that it was a one time thing she did as a test, hence we no longer find them in Brisban.
Though http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Steam_Mechataur are found in Brisban, but I think they come through an Asura Gate. Seriously though, the wiki is your friend, it will tell you what monsters can be found on what maps.
I don’t see how it would hold any significance if it were meant to be the realm of torment since Kormir and the Forgotten are technically supposed to have taken over… As in, the realm of torment is no longer the realm of torment.
As other’s have pointed out I think it’s just more generally meant to signify the mists through its use of alchemy circles.
Can we please not talk about the Master of Peace taking her offspring. This would be a baby dragon that’s been around for close to 250 years, even if it were only the size of her baby we encountered in EoTN there is still no way he is smuggling it around without anyone being able to see…
@loseridoit if you read my earlier post you’d see I already recommended bootcamp over OSX. The fans are still going to run loudly in bootcamp, just not quite as loud.
Have you checked the settings menu? I’m not sure but I think you’re right and there is no option for it. Why would you need to see your own name and title? You already know what your character name is and you know what title you have active, it would be screen clutter to have it showing.
Yes you are, there is another release coming in 2 weeks time and the trailer for this season showed a very large devourer, definitely larger than the Queen that you find in what we presently have access to of Dry Top.
Keep in mind that right now we do only have access to a tiny corner of Dry Top, a small part or a much larger map.
@Shiren, the PC states that a piece of writing written by Aerin is a Soundless mantra – that’s where it came from. Though I still think it’s weak evidence and was a little bit thrown in… But there is an explanation there.
And the proximity thing is where him being Soundless comes in to play. The implication as that when a Soundless gets close to Mordremoth or w/e they open themselves up to corruption – whereas the PC is connected to the Dream which could be acting as a safeguard. – I mean it’s sort of speculation, but it seems like what they were trying to hint at.
O_o. I don’t understand what the problem is. You get a sun aspect crystal and then stand facing him but not inside his orange AoE ring, then you use the sun dash skill… You don’t have to time it or anything, just dash at him from outside his AoE ring.
Yes, +1
Dungeon back pieces would actually be pretty cool as well!
The game is pretty lacking in the back pieces department and a lot of the back pieces we can get are skins from living world releases.
I would love some Sylvari themed back pieces, at the moment the only thing that really works well is the Fervid Censer and Desert Rose.
Their internal process go through all of that step by step. They had a blog post during development that was all about iteration and how everything goes through a ton of people. So yes, everything is thoroughly checked throughout all phases of development.
They have QA testers who basically do the same thing, and they also have a group of trusted players who get to test content before it is released and give feedback on it (I think both Dulfy and Woodenpotatoes are in this category, I know Konig was for GW1, not sure if he still is for GW2?).
The dragons don’t consume, but rather absorb (like a sponge) magic. Once the magic has all been absorbed they rest. I don’t see how giving Mordremoth access to the ley lines changes any of that. He absorbs the magic from the ley lines and gets more powerful, but should still eventually go to sleep at some point.
Also I think a war between the dragons is unlikely, otherwise it would probably have been noticed during their last rising. They might not like each other (their minions are hostile to one another), but I don’t think they would war between themselves. If they had there’d probably already be Elder dragon skeletons on Tyria.
Yes find the ramp. Just before you enter that area you and Aerin both pass through some vines and then drop down, the ramp is at the far left of where you drop down. Hopefully that helps you find it? There’s a large sand pile against the wall that shows you where the top of the ramp is, so just keep walking past that!
I don’t understand why people don;t just use these the second you get them. There’s no reason you should end up with a giant stack of them (unless you’ve just purchased a ton of items and salvaged them for them, but then you’re limited by bank and inventory space anyway and you’ve been willing to click to salvage everything).
You know she spawns form a chest that you have to physically open right? I sincerely hope you aren’t just wandering around hoping that she’s going to randomly appear, she only starts running around when someone opens the chest. (I assume you already know this since you’ve done the other burglar achievements, but it’s not clear from your dialogue).
Forum sections don’t get deleted, they get Archived. They’re quite clearly in the archived suggestion and when something is archived on a computer it becomes read only – it makes sense. That way people can read it and see what suggestions have already been made, or Anet can sift through them if they feel like it.
I’m a staff ele and I haven’t had any problems with it… There is a ramp up to him, you just walk up it and it has a small linking platform to the main platform in the middle, you can usually switch between the main platform and attack him from there using your AoE range to hit him when he teleports to the outer platforms (don’t bother getting aspects to follow him, you don’t need to) and then when he puts bombs on the central platform you just dodge roll backwards onto the ramp you walked up.
It’s honestly not a difficult fight for a staff ele, you just have to get yourself in the right position so you can dodge roll backwards without falling off.
Ignore ALL of the mobs down the bottom, they spawn indefinitely and you aren’t meant to kill them, it’s just supposed to be you fighting up top against Aerin.
So basically we can’t make new suggestions. And they arn’t even responding to any…
You can make suggestions in the appropriate subforum. If it is a general suggestion post it in this forum, if it is an audio suggestion post it int he audio forum, a class suggestion – post it in the appropriate class forum.
Nothing is stopping you from making suggestions, they just removed the suggestion forum because it wasn’t productive – there was no way for them to effectively pay attention to it because of the mass of useless posts asking for mounts etc.
Also, don’t ever expect a reply from Anet, while they often read a lot of the forum posts, they very infrequently reply. It’s also against the forum code of conduct to directly ask for a reply.
Yes I have. It’s Taimi’s voice actor who I hear doing a lot of other voices in the area, e.g Belinda and I think the Hylek near the city. Like you said, part of the problem is that these Voice Actors have quite distinct voices, so yes Debby’s (that’s who it is right?) voice sounds awesome on Taimi, it just doesn’t work for other NPC’s because all I can hear is the fact that she is trying to disguise the fact that she is Taimi and so is trying to put on another voice but it just doesn’t work.
It is DEFINITELY immersion breaking for me. Honestly I would have preferred it if they got the staff to do the VA for the random NPC’s – it would feel more realistic.
There wouldn’t be a legitimate lore explanation for using crystals anywhere else, so hopefully we don’t have to worry about it. The excuse for where we are in is that the crystals fell off the ship when it crashed, but there shouldn’t be crashed ships anywhere else, so there shouldn’t be crystals.
Chaos magic is NOT Elder Dragon Magic… The Inquest mistook dragon energy for chaos magic because they can have similar effects, but they are not the same thing. It would be remarkably silly for a class to be running around using dragon magic.
I think the next couple of months should be pretty full with Living Story and Holiday content releases, so we might not see it for a while :S
Personally I hope that they bring it back in a more permanent form.
Like Konig says, Arenanet staff play the game as well, like actually play the game, so perhaps they were just doing a personal story step, or revisiting an area they particularly liked.
Guys, the area right next to where you enter Dry Top is an area with strange stuff happening because of the Thaumanova Reactor Fallout – as in, it’s an area over ley lines and so has a lot of magic coursing through it, hence the presence of vines. I think it’s sort of implied that the dragon is using his vines over there to absorb the energy from the reactor fallout/ley lines – making them purple.
It’s definitely not part of Mordremoth given that he has most probably deep underground (if he weren’t deep underground we would have seen his body in GW1 like we did with Kralk) and should still be further into the Maguuma where there is actually Jungle, rather than in the Dry Top.
Yes it’s already been heavily speculated that Husks have been minions of Mordremoth, especially since the Three Headed Worms came out.
Like Michael says, you don’t need to buy another account. Your account is tied to the games servers, rather than your client/computer. So you can play from any computer that has GW2 installed whether it is OSX or Windows, all you have to do is log in
Yeah I was really happy with this update as well.
The only thing I didn’t like was the JP, and only because it wasn’t challenging enough
I don’t know if this has been pointed out but this is only a fraction of the whole Dry Top map that we have access to right now… There’s a reason the textures on the edge of the map resemble fogged out bits rather than just bits that have no map. There’s more of the map to come as the season continues.
EoTM has sandstorm effects in the Badlands – though they disappear if you turn the graphics down low enough, not sure if these do as well?
Yeah I kind of agree. Jumping Puzzles are quite honestly one of my favourite pieces of content, but being asked to jump up precarious pieces of bamboo with skills that don’t always work as intended is not a whole lot of fun.
I want to feel as though the way I make my jumps is important. I get that they wanted to use the Zephyr skills again, but accessing the coins and everything else on the map with them was probably enough.
In the future I hope they go back to Morgan’s Spiral and Hidden garden type JP’s where you feel a real sense of accomplishment for them. It really just felt like an excuse for the diving platform – which was not fun either. I’m so happy I made the dive on the first go because there was no way I was jumping all the way back up there again to try multiple times…
Uhh.. You’re not meant to have to do anything like that. You should be able to begin the new living story chapter from your new story panel…
There is no 0 gem item to buy/unlock. If that’s all your seeing perhaps submit a support ticket.
My least favourite are the Quaggan just because I feel like they’re out of place and were put in game as a joke race.
I’m not fond of the Hylek either, but only because of how GW2 presents them – they were more compelling for me in GW1.
And I’m still super annoyed at the Grawl having reasonable english and american accents…
There’s no eye in there. The human brain creates shapes and patterns out of things that don’t exist… It’s a cloud with lightning, the image is used throughout the whole of the Bazaar.
@StinVec, it doesn’t correspond to language packs, it’s just that people who have had the game for longer tend to have larger clients. Mine is 21GB and the only language pack I have installed is English…
