You definitely cannot say that the seed Ronan got from the cave was guarded by Mordrem. In GW1’s time there were a LOT of hostile plant based lifeforms and there is absolutely nothing to suggest that these were minions of Mordremoth. For all we know they could have been Sylvari, you’re going off a subjective description. (And the fact that this occured in GW1’s timeline would suggest they probably weren’t Mordrem).
Nor do I think you can equate the Sylvari glow to the vine glow. The Sylvari have bioluminescence, it’s not some evil magicky glow.
Using a fan or computer cooling device on a mac doesn’t really work that well. The computer’s body is made of aluminium, partly because it looks good, but also because it is a heat-sink. (Unless you mean just using a regular room fan, in which case go for it because lowering the room temperature can help).
I would honestly suggest installing something that monitors the temperature of your computer while playing, I think you’ll find that it’s operating within safe temperature levels.
There is no 64 bit client, even in Windows the game is 32bit. It’s possible that at some point in the future they might release a 64bit client, but even if they do the cider port is still stuck with the 32bit limitation because it is emulating 32bit Windows (which is why certain settings are greyed out).
I don’t really understand the need for any of this – honestly what you’re saying sounds far more complicated to me.
GW2 has one timeline, as long as players know where they ‘are’ on the timeline it’s not really an issue. The living story clearly occurs after the personal story on the timeline. Yes the altering of old zones provides some discontinuity – but if they were looking for a good way of solving that then they would have two copies of each zone/instance, one for the personal story timeline and one for anything that occurs afterwards. They don’t seem willing to do that, so yeah :S
“you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.
To access this:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.”
It would also be really helpful to know what your computer specs are, and also if you’ve been able to launch the game just fine before – or if this is your first time and it won’t launch.

If you have just downloaded the game launcher then yes it’s going to take a while. The game is around 20GB in size, so depending on your internet speed it will take a while to finish downloading all of the game files.
Lion’s Arch still has aquatic life. The Quaggans still have their village, so why remove them from their homes and why aren’t they back? It makes no sense.
The water was poisoned by the Miasma, so one would assume that they didn’t really want to stay there. There’s also the drill not so far away, I don’t imagine they would want to stay somewhere that has a constant reminder of what happened – some of their friends and family were probably killed. Not to mention the fact that the rest of LA is still destroyed and not heavily populated meaning that trade wouldn’t be so great which would make living there harder.
Honestly I’m not 100% sure if your graphics card is even supported. 288MB of vRAM sounds far too low to be able to play the game :S
You can always try deleting the GW2 Application Support folder and seeing if that works. The Trading Post was working fine for me the other day on the OSX client, so perhaps it’s just your game? I hope it goes with out saying that you should try restarting your computer (there have been plenty of instances where the TP won’t work if you’ve opened and closed GW2 already in a session of your computer being logged in).
Almost 2 years*
And for most people the beta client works far from wondrously (though like you I seem to be one of the few who doesn’t really encounter problems).
I think the problem is that it’s quite difficult to pull off a trailer that would effectively just be listing new/updated features. Trailers work really well for introducing a story, but adding visuals to a list of changes doesn’t make a ton of sense – it would be like trying to make a trailer for patch notes…
Staffs are a two handed weapon – a one handed staff is a sceptre. It wouldn’t make any sense to be able to simultaneously weird a sceptre and staff. However, I think dual sceptres would be pretty cool.
Did you let the repair finish? Or did you interrupt it and then delete application support – because doing that may have corrupted the .dat file in which case you would need to have deleted it and let the game download it from scratch (or run the repair command again). The only reason for the game to not recognise the .dat would be if it were in the wrong place or if the file is corrupted.
His answers sound very short, like, not overly positive/optimistic.
Obviously if they’re optimising the client then yes you’re going to see improvements on OSX – but how much of an improvement is anger question. It’s still a 32bit cider port. There are two voices in my head, one is pessimistic and thinks they’re just going to stop the mac client altogether, the other is optimistic and thinks they might announce a native client.
I’ve got the gamma one, get it every time i alt tab, change graphic settings or relog or anything else really.
Gamma slider stays on 1.0 but if you move the slider the gamma goes back to normalalso on a side note, i’m having my favorite dyes resetting, is this a mac thing?
Favourite dyes are server side, so it shouldn’t be a mac thing. Maybe file a bug report or support ticket :S
Is it possibly changing the screen gamma?
That actually sound super ominous _
Yeah unfortunately it seems as if the recent LS updates have caused a whole slew of new crash errors. As far as I’m aware the CharMotion error hadn’t been a wide spread issue before now. LockedRect.pbits has been around since the release of the OSX client and seems to be a common crash when there’s a lot going on on screen (e.g. A Zerg or moving the camera very fast on high settings lmao). Until a member of staff actually acknowledges these issues and tries to do something about it I’m not sure there’s anything that can be done on the user end to fix them.
Twitch is completely separate to GW2. Arenanet doesn’t have any ability to do anything about it.
Try using Google Chrome or Firefox instead… If you are really super insistent on using Safari then make sure you’ve deleted your cache, browsing history, cookies etc.
I have the same error on my mac (and many others unfortunately) with 32GB of RAM…
How much RAM you have doesn’t matter, the game can only use 3GB because it is a 32 bit Windows port :/

Uhh, make sure you try backspacing what is there and typing it from scratch? Make sure you’re using your email address as the login username. Try copy pasting it from one application into GW2? Not sure if any of that will work, but worth a try.
Meh. Sad to see that its still in beta, even though it uses that CIDR wrapper.
I mean, EA uses such wrapper for their games and doesn’t call it a beta release.
Hmmm but EA also has really really dreadful support. I mean look at The Sims 3 – that is in a cider wrapper but for years and years since release EA has basically failed to offer their OSX clients any support. They never knew how to deal with any of the issues that they routinely caused with the OSX client etc. Oh look, that sounds familiar xD.

@florida what are the specs of your iMac out of interest? And are you running Mavericks?
Follow these instructions VERY closely

If that works/doesn’t then let us know
Does your computer only have the intel graphics card? Or does it also have a dedicated graphics card? (if its a 15 inch 2011 MBP it should also have an AMD graphics card in which case you’ll get really decent performance – it’s the same machine that I have -Performance is far superior in boot camp! but your intel graphics card is going to limit just how much better i think.

Try deleting the GW2 application support folder. Also, did you do a clean install back to Mavericks?
Cannot bind mouse wheel to camera zoom in/out

Open up the in game options menu and on the first page there are two options that begin “Mac OSX Beta…” and they both relate to the mouse scrolling functions (and when ticked cause scrolling to change the camera direction instead of zoom). All you need to do is find those options and untick them.
When it hits 0 – how long have you hired leaving it open? I think that others have found that leaving the launcher open for a while sometimes allows it to sort itself out. Since you’ve tried all the usual fixes I’m not really sure if there is anything else I can suggest sorry.
You are putting human traits onto non-human things.
We have a particular view of the world that is shaped by our cultural and social experiences and upbringing. Elder Dragon’s do not have anywhere near the same kind of social experience, nor do we have any idea how their brains function. So Yeah, I wouldn’t go trying to put human feelings or emotions onto them…
Open settings and untick the two mac beta mouse settings. These change mouse scrolls from scrolling to camera movement – which is why you’re experiencing issues.
Actually there are plenty of things that will run justified with 256mb of graphics memory. WoW or GW1 for example...
Unfortunately GW2 is quite demanding, especially the osx port. If you don’t have access to another machine then unfortunately gw2 might now be for you :S
Sorry that it didn’t work out for you – but you realise I’m just another player right, not tech support O_o… Deleting the application support folder works for a lot of people, sorry that it didn’t work out for you.
Good luck getting a refund, it should be very easy for you to do since you just purchased the game and aren’t able to install.

The final mission of Nightfall was preeeety clear about Abaddon being completely and utterly destroyed and Kormir absorbing (just) his power. So if they do have souls – their souls can be destroyed.
I’m pretty sure the option is there in the exact same place it is on the windows client.
FlamingFox stop defending this crap game, are you paid by ArenaNet or you are just completely fool?
Did you even read what I wrote. Seriously, I condemned them for their complete lack of contact and updates. Like seriously, go and read what I wrote. Attacking me outright like that when you obviously had no clue what I was saying is ridiculous. I was defending the people in this thread who were complaining about the lack of updates, improvement, contact etc. but wow, thank you for being a complete kitten.
And just to be sure I double checked everything I wrote and your comment was completely and utterly uncalled for.
(edited by FlamingFoxx.1305)
They’re short, so yeah I would recommend reading them. Ghosts of Ascalon is ok, pretty decent plot wise, though I’m not a huge fan of the writing. Edge of Destiny is shockingly written though it’s pretty relevant to the plot and certainly makes the story dungeons in GW2 make a little more sense. I still haven’t finished Sea of Sorrows, I just don’t have time >.>, but it is by far the the best written of the three. I hear what others are saying about the pacing being a little slow, but honestly if you’re used to reading fantasy novels then it’s about on par with what you’d except (and the pacing actually makes more sense than in the other novels where things happen at a ridiculous pace).

Honestly I would advise going back to Mavericks until Yosemite sees an official release. Yet Yosemite is in public beta, but the purpose of that is for Apple to test out what works and what doesn’t, test it in a wide environment, and to give developers extra time to make sure that their software runs. The purpose of the public beta is not for people to go out and instal it as their main operating system – because if something goes seriously wrong you aren’t covered. There is a reason they recommend you make a backup and install the game on a secondary machine (or partition).
Yeah Todd if you go back months and months you’d realise that everything you are saying has already been said before by numerous people, myself included. Putting aside the native argument, which is a bit of a pointless argument, there has still been NO staff communication regarding the development of the client, there still continues to be NO staff support on the forums for people who are experiencing genuine problems.
Yes people played for an account, but the game was advertised and continues to be advertised as working on OSX, regardless of whether or not there is a BETA tag they’re still under an obligation to offer support for an operating system that the game is advertised as playable on. The fact that they don’t seem to have anyone on staff who knows what is going on when people do experience issues is a huge problem.
So yeah, everyone here knows that the client could be in a perpetual beta. The point is these people paid for a product and deserve to be treated the same as everyone else who also paid for said product. They aren’t though, and that’s a huge problem.
Also saying people can bootcamp in such a nonchalant way is kind of rude. In order to install Windows via bootcamp you have to pay hundreds of dollars for a windows install key. It’s not as simply as just switching over. So yeah, for people who can run GW2 in bootcamp it is a great option. But it isn’t a solution to bad support of a bad product.

Do you have any other program’s running at the same time. And I mean ANY other program’s, even just tiny little things that sit up in the menu bar?
Todd. The issue people are having is that it’s been 2 years with absolutely zero development on the beta client (ignoring any kind of wish for a native client here, what I mean is that the cider port hasn’t seen any kind of development.) and on top of that the support we’ve seen here has been dismal, I’ve been around since the game came out and we’ve had at least three times where we were promised a support staff – each time that person has helped in a minimal number of cases and disappeared after a month or so.
I understand you point, but there is no need to be so nasty about it. People paid expecting to be able to play the game well and for a lot of people the client doesn’t manage that. None of them are saying tha they expect a native client to be in the works – they’re saying they are fed up with a 2 year cider point with no development and no staff support.
There is a sticky post with basic troubleshooting issues. Open that up and find the instructions for deleting the application support GW2 folder. That should fix the problem. I’m on my phone otherwise I would paste the instructions here for you.
Laptop stands do help. During summer I use one when I play gw2, it’s not going to fix your graphics issues though :S
And you don’t experience any other kinds of graphical issues in other games?
The quality is full 1080p on youtube, did you reupload?
But yeah, it should nottt be like that. Can you do me a favour and check that you don’t have super-sampling enabled in the graphics settings.
You mentioned you’ve got a lot of space on your harddrive. Would a Bootcamp’d Windows installation be an option for you? The client runs much more efficiently under Windows.
Also, Foxx, for 32bit processes, the limitation is 2GB RAM, not 4GB. That’s for adressable memory for OSes
Oh wow, I thought it was 3 (it is on windows 32bit I think) but went with 4 just in case :S but two, that’s pretty shocking and could explain a lot of the issues.

That’s interesting, off the top of my head I’m not really sure what could be the cause. You could always try running the repair command on the client?
90 is very high, but it isn’t dangerously so. With how inefficient GW2 is and because it is running in a cider wrapper the heat is going to end up being on the high end :S – but you aren’t a special case and there’s not a lot to be done about it.
As for the performance steadily decreasing over time I’m not sure there’s anything I can think of since I’m not a developer. I would guess there is some kind of bottleneck in the processor or RAM (the client is 32 bit so it is limited to 4GBs)
(edited by FlamingFoxx.1305)
90 isn’t anything worth worrying about. Are you absolutely sure the frame rate isn’t dropping? Can you have the frame rate monitor open and see what the numbers do when this happens?
