I think the poll missed an important idea that professions are less important to a team comp than the role that profession is filling.
Consider Team A, which has 5 druids and Team B which has a tempest, reaper, scrapper, mesmer and berserker. Team B is the drastically better comp right? No, because Team A has 2 mender, 1 sage, 1 paladin, and 1 marauder while Team B has 5 berserker amulets.
You can’t look at only 1 side of the profession/amulet equation, or if you were forced to, the amulet is more important.
Thanks, good point. What about for WvW roaming, is viper’s generally used over zerk there? I know the PvP meta used vipers and that’s about the extent of my knowledge of the build other than how to fight against it. With an entire shatter dedicated to condi damage it seems like hybrid is the way to go, ya?
I’ve done it 3 times solo or with like 1 guy coming along halfway to help. Maybe you’re just on the wrong map.
On a whim I used all my PvP ascended armor rewards on light armor because I dislike all 3 light classes and wanted to get to understand them better. I went with the default berserker since it’s always a safe choice.
I slapped it on my chrono and am doing world completion to get a feel for the skills. It seems like nearly every trait and half the skills encourage you to be hybrid rather than pure power. Is viper’s comparable or even better damage than regular ol’ berserker’s, with all the agony and confusion that I can toss around (let’s just assume something lives past the first attack)?
I realize this is extremely vague since I haven’t specified any game mode or trait lines, but basically it’s a learning exercise. I plan on getting 100% world completion and then probably doing some WvW roaming with the intention of learning how to counter every aspect of mesmer better in PvP and WvW. However I have given her a GS and S/Sh for starters.
The problem with light armor charr is that they are basically human armor skins stretched to fit a charr’s body, and look just plain goofy. I guess some people feel you can make a prettier female charr than a serious male charr. It took me ages to make a female charr necro that I didn’t think looked ridiculous.
Female norn engi will look way better than a male IMO, females are completely proportional and the males are ludicrously buff to the point they look like caricatures.
Asura don’t really have secondary sex characteristics so it sort of doesn’t matter.
I can definitely see GoT being used with GoE for duels, assuming no one is being a kitten and both are in glassy gear. Edit, my “kitten” is a funnier word than it implies, not like a harsh swear. Anywho.
Because the whiny PvP community would hit it within 3 seconds when someone didn’t give them enough swiftness at start. We have enough quitters already, don’t need officially sanctioned quitters.
The beauty of thief is that he can tell if he’s going to win the 1v1 in about 1 second. If not he leaves and decaps the point on the far side of the map. If he wins, he farms that player and their point for the rest of the match.
It’s a complicated answer as you said druid, wvw and duels in the same sentence.
Roaming, druids are great
1v1, druids are great
Dueling? Many druids will happily claim to be duelers because they can stall a 1v1 forever or force the enemy to disengage or maybe even kill a noob super fast. That’s not what I would call dueling. This is the type of druid (player in general) who gets wrekt by a dueler in wvw so hard that they come crying on forums so&so is op or druids need buffs not nerfs.
I always enjoy the way you phrase things.
Personally I only duel on my full ascended nomad’s tempest.
I don’t get the “cheesey builds” complaints. I’ve mained ranger for 4 years and made the best druid build I could come up (without crafting some insanely expensive new armor) because I don’t want to hamstring myself with a bad build. Am I playing a cheesey build? Most people say yes for no other reason than I main ranger.
Do you want me to play an axe/axe soldier’s core ranger with 2 pig pets so we can have a fair fight?
The only cheesey builds are the ones made for the sole purpose of trolling, like those perma stealth condi trap thieves or the perma evade d/d thieves. If someone is legit trying to kill me and not just annoy people, I’ll fight them.
Female charr light armor classes. Sylvari, human, and asura anythings are pretty common.
I would recommend anyone use glass gear because:
1) All non-super-high-end PvE is very forgiving.
2) IMO it makes every fight easier. The faster you kill something, the less challenging the fight is.
3) If something is going to down you in PvE, odds are overwhelming that it’s some massive boss attack with a big tell (or you did something stupid like attack with a bunch of confusion on you). No one dies via auto-attack attrition, especially in instances where the boss attacks like once a minute. Your tanky gear is wasted.
But the final answer is: I don’t care what gear you use. I recommend glass, but do whatever the hell you want with your time.
So it’s ok to delete these items as soon as you find them? They’re kittening me off so much I sort of don’t even care if I’m supposed to hold on to them.
Metabattle has “experts” to contribute, like the raid speed clear guys that don’t necessarily main druid might make the druid raid build based on something their druid used that effectively cleared a raid. The builds are definitely not bad even if you have different preferences.
Excellent for both.
There is an undeserved stigma against druids in WvW, but the only time that will matter is if you’re following some really bad PUG commander who kicks you from the squad, and even then you could still follow the zerg. Although why you’d want to play with someone that incompetent I don’t know. For roaming, druids are godlike, arguably the best roaming class.
For PvP druid is extremely good and commonly used.
Sorry, but I agree with OP here, the boss stage room isn’t something mild at all. Spinning, multiple mods, AoE indicators, there’s a LOT going on in that room. Especially when you get thrown around like a ragdoll and the camera tries to make sense of it.
I mean, of course, if you’re prone to seizures the gaming industry might not be your thing, at least don’t play alone.
There is a huge difference between motion sickness and seizures though. Seizure are a sign you’ve got something potentially life threatening wrong with your brain, like fatally low blood sugar or cancer, etc.
The thing is, ranger gets dagger main hand. So even if you talk in theory, reality wins.
Well that’s the leak, but who knows. The NEXT elite spec could very well be rifle if GW2 is still a thing at that point.
Dodge druid counters everything and cannot be countered
I think you’re a buffoon, but ya, druid is a 1v1 champ that isn’t applicable to conquest. Ranger has always been the best 1v1 class since launch, maybe tied with mesmer in certain metas.
The counter to that is not killing things in less than 10 minutes is not a good skill for conquest unless you want to bunker. That’s one reason why ranger has often not been part of the pvp meta.
Serious question, should you be playing video games at all, especially alone if something as mild as that give you seizures?? You could literally hit the back of your head and die.
I think anyone that experiences seizures from video games is going to have already vetted this stuff. This coming from a guy who had to go to a bunch of neurologists for a random black out disease.
Edit: Or are you confusing mild disorientation for seizures? A single seizure is VERY serious.
Ranger will never get any sort of pistol or rifle. The lore behind the class is nature based and you expect them to throw a random gadget in their? Why don’t we just add a robot pet as well, which would actually be interesting but it simply will not happen.
I’ve been saying it since before season 5, we get dagger main-hand as stealth ranger becomes even more normalized.
This has been rehashed everytime it comes up but to summarize:
1) “Nature” and “gun” are not at odds in any way. The connection there is not even remotely difficult to imagine. This argument has been done to death so I won’t reiterate it.
2) Elite specs change everything. Guardian and longbow don’t go together in my mind. We could easily have a ranger with a scepter or a…. fish hook. It doesn’t matter. Maybe the new elite ranger spec is a “Juggernaut”; that is a tanky frontline fighter wielding a scepter and focus.
Class counters don’t exist. (with Revenant being the only exception)
Build counters do exist.
I can’t think of any necro build that isn’t hard countered by a longbow ranger/druid if it can’t LoS.
It’s funny how the fairly harmless warrior, DH and bunker druid bows are now suddenly a huge problem. In a projectile hate meta none the less. I feel like someone went to wiki, searched for “ranged projectiles”, and came up with the idea that warrior longbow is now a problem…..
I don’t have HoT Expansion.
-Loses to guardian
-Loses to revenant
-Loses to warrior
-Loses to thief
-Loses to ranger
-Loses to engi
-Stalemates ele
-Loses to mesmer
-Loses to necro
Boom.
It depends on your build.
My D/Wh ele:
Stalemates thieves
Stalemates mesmers
Stalemates guardians
Stalemates warriors
Stalemates rangers
Stalemates eles
Stalemates revenants
Stalemates engineers
Stalemates necros
Nice.
OP post what you play, typing out every single matchup would be excessive.

I forgot how ridiculously erotic the GW1 ranger dance was. When I was teaching my wife the emotes in some remote outpost, we started dancing, me as a female ranger and her as a female elementalist and soon a small crowd had gathered to watch us gyrate.
I used to want dagger but the new sword kinda took over that functionality.
I want another melee weapon though since we have 4 ranged weapons already and all of our offhands have ranged attacks, so mace or hammer probably. I know everyone loves the thought of a bunny thumper.
There was a expac testing leak that suggested we get dagger. Giving us even more CC on a profession already overloaded with CC may explain not going the bludgeon route.
Human is the safest choice for skins not clipping. Charr have ridiculous clipping problems and bad armor choices in general.
Ya I’ve been playing against guys that are clearly just starting PvP. Like core class, starter armor, double capping their home at start kind of stuff in both ranked and unranked. No idea what’s going on with the matchmaking but I’m obliterating people left and right.
Keep in mind that the PvP meta changes ALL THE TIME, but currently:
Tempest is full on team support bunker
Druid is a sustain-y small fight bunker
Scrapper is a self-sustain bunker
Reaper is a team fight AoE damage class with little defense and bad at 1v1s
Dragonhunter is a tough AoE damage team fighter with reasonable 1v1 ability
Mesmer is a mobile team support with high damage
Berserker, Herald, and Daredevil are all high mobility damage with excellent 1v1 ability
I’m not aware of a site that keeps everyone up to date on PvP roles other than digging into the meta builds on metabattle.com, so I typed that up. But again, that changes pretty much every time there is a balance update.
Duel him for me
The people demand it, beat “Ryan” and we’ll listen to you.
Post a video beating Ryan in a duel and we might glance in your direction.
This whole Conor McGregor/Trump ego type of thing for attention is pretty played out at this point, it’s been done to death lately. I watched a few seconds of your video, saw you were competent but unchallenged, and got bored out of my mind.
If you want anyone to take you seriously, stop posting videos of you saying how amazing you are for fighting in a rank 44(?!!) PvP match and post beating someone with a name. When you post a video of you beating toker, I’ll open my eyes to “the best player”.
i find that with full glass my celstial avatar doesnt heal that much
im using 4 and 3 and then leaving
am i doing something wrong?
Rabidsmiles covered the important QD aspect of it, but another tip is throw down a 2 before the 3, it will blast retal, do a minor heal, blind, and cure a condition. It’s a sort of “eh, why not?” move. And it’s a good habit for WvW and PvP.
But even if you don’t get the QD, just getting that extra several thousand health every 10 seconds is a pretty big deal and should allow full glass to be much easier.
I thought the last episode was fantastic with the huge exception that the camera couldn’t fit in the boss room. I died and respawned into the room to no idea what was killing me and no where to go, it didn’t matter if I zoomed in or out, either way it was too crowded.
I don’t mean that to be a whine though, that aspect was terrible but overall I thoroughly enjoyed the last instance.
Just ignore them, Gw2 reddit is also reporting the same issues with the final boss fight; It’s a badly designed encounter, quite possibly the worst fight in the entire game.
It’s not even fair to compare Dark Souls to the boss fight; Dark Souls, for the most part is pretty fair, this boss fight however, feels as if it was designed to punish players.
You’re not being fair, the final fight is going to be drastically different depending on your profession and weapons and equipment type. Like you could be full nomad druid LB with pets and think it was the easiest fight ever created.

Thief is very solid in PvP if you’re good, as it almost always has been. Huge detriment to your team if you’re bad. But the best teams usually run a thief. For PUGs its a very solid choice unless you get a bunch of thieves on one team.
Edit: Mesmer is in a comparable position to thief, just more utility and less mobility. Ele is pure bunker or healing in PvP/WvW. Pure damage in PvE ironically.
Ironically Greyhawk did the same when he said “most like DR just fine”.
Neither have anything other than gut feeling to back it up.
No PvE tier list, just play what’s fun for you. Some people might post one but it’s not for your tier and even then barely applicable.
Gear up by playing the latest living story stuff, they will give you ascended gear, also the next PvP rank season will give you a full set of ascended armor (after enough games). If none of that interests you you can eventually craft ascended armor just by getting enough money doing anything you want.
Edit: Dungeons and karma give really really cheap exotic gear if you don’t have that.

I see this as yet another kitten to Mesmer. Why is ANET so quick to trash Mesmer?
Yes mesmer and not the 75% of teleporting classes. The movement field has been like mildly almost evened between a mesmer and a scapper.
You’ve got massive spoilers in the title and post, put a tag up.
Anywho, it seems pretty obvious they knew the end to this story before launch. I mean we all sort of knew he was WM, it’s just to what extent. I don’t know if they reused this asset or if it was planned, neither would surprise me.
Khylo was terrible for the 3 martial classes with no teles. I mean ranger could make up for the horrible deficit via ranger, but otherwise it was way too much jumping puzzle to achieve a little bit of side node support.
Teles were WAY too powerful on this map. It’s just that the majority of classes have them so most people didn’t care.
Maybe like a half trap BM condi build? SotP, PM, WHaO. That’s a lot of boons and a reasonable build. Full traps is garbage, it’s just the traits that are wonky. You need 4 traitlines for an ideal condi druid.
Just thought this was worth a celebration thread on the ranger forum. In ranked I typically counted that map as an auto-loss despite LBs power on it. The JPs were just way too difficult when you had much more important things to worry about. And using a dodge to make the final jump… sheesh. Tele was dominant.
It’s nice to not be effectively banned from supporting mid if you went sides for a brief moment.
seems like the build would suck in aoe sitations wouldnt it?
Welcome to druid. AoE is limited to autoattack for the most part.
Just go full glass anything. Druid spec keeps you alive. I’ve done every living story to date in the typical berserker build (LB/SA/SWH/GS any combo of those are fine) but glass condi should be fine too. LB is just a little more fail-safe with the range.
Unless you’re new, then you might want a few soldier’s trinkets or whatever. Whatever you’re comfy with. Just SoS pop hould get you out of any danger long enough to full heal with druid, worst case scenario.
What is LB and HJ? I have a few ideas but they don’t seem forum-appropriate.
Still, this astonishing piece of art for the raid, released on twitter by Anet, shows a giant four-horned skull, a kind of demonic imagery that, to my knowledge, is apparently unconnected to both the White Mantle and the Mursaat.
That’s pretty clearly Diablo, and the portal takes us to Sanctuary.
Funny how the whole cheating scandal has changed people’s answers. This question has been asked before and the guys that were cheating in the leaderboard were always brought up.
but one different utility and a different heal skill are a lot easier to live with.
It’s a lot harder to live with them, literally, because you’re giving up a really really good utility for complete crap. SoS, PM, SoR, gaurd, LR, etc for like…. sun spirit? WHaO for water spirit? No, objectively wrong answer if you’re not less than PvP level 80 like some people in this thread supporting spirits are.
I’m sure you can make it work, but you’re making subpar choices let’s be honest.
Sand drake? Jade scarab? Desert Griffon?
