There seems to be a common misconception as to what “not hurt the economy” means. Of course this is something the devs have to keep in mind while making up a crafting system, and it’s understandable. But it’s not to protect precursor flippers, or the 0.1% richest people in the game.
As it happens, the mystic forge is the single most important gold sink in the game. The higher the price of precursors, the more gold people are willing to flush down the toilet, which again counteracts inflation. Inflation is poison for any ingame-economy, so limiting it is one of the priorities of the economist(s) working for Anet.
Making precursor crafting to easy would lead to nobody flushing down gold in the mystic forge, and inflation will occur at a faster rate than now. That’s what they meant by “not hurting the economy”.
That being said, the Devs aren’t stupid either. They know that making precursor crafting almost as costly as buying them from tp is pointless, because in that case people could just buy them from there instead.
My guess is they are looking into other ways of limiting the amount of precursors players can craft. This can be done, as some have suggested, by adding a “token” that’s needed in the process to the 5k and 10k achievment chests. If you want more legendaries than that, you would still have to use the mystic forge or tp.
There also was a picture that appeared a year ago that seems to confirm this method.
Disclaimer: This is very old, it was never official, developers have officially called it a fake, and even if there as a bit of truth in it, we were recently told they moved away from the original crafting. The only purpose this serves is to show how one could effectively limit the amount of precursors crafted, without making it cost a fortune.

ITT: Warrior not stronk enouff. Gief uncounterable stability huehue.
Don’t worry guys, haven’t you heard about precursor crafting?
They’re “working on it.” ™
Why not something else to trave wxp points on? Like with skillpoints, that can be exchanged for specific ingredients and such.
Because of Account bound Wxp. Make a new character —> spend hundreds of rank points on items —> delete character —> repeat.
We have long since come to accept that WvW won’t yield us the same loot that PvE’ing does, so when anet implemented wxp it was, for many, some kind of band-aid to rectify said loot imbalance.
For many players wxp became both a small and steady source of income, and also a proof of progression and experience, and thus, a source of pride.
I think it’s fair to draw a line here to sPvP’s glory system, which is similar in many ways.
So, when custom arenas were introduced to sPvP and people started abusing them for farming glory, anet were relatively quick to respond how that’s not how they meant them to be you utilized, and put on a limit on how much glory could be earned per match. This stopped low-skilled players from attaining ranks in a few weeks, that veteran players have played for since launch.
In WvW, EoTM was implemented, and I’m pretty sure that players aren’t playing in EoTM like anet meant them too. Avoiding all fights, never defending and running 3 synchronized karma-gold-wxp-all-in-one-trains clockwise around the map.
Now, I don’t really care about the karma and the gold, but I must admit I’m a little upset that these players earn a lot more wxp while PvE-ing, than I do while WvW’ing.
This is why, just like with the glory-change, wxp-gain for capping objectives should be limited in EoTM. Wxp for player kills should remain the same to encourage battles and defending.
Any opinions?
This has been discussed to no end already in the pvp-subsection, with Dev-answers.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Arah-Path-Armor-Box-Answered/first
400 ranks since it was implemented, 0 chests, 1 ring
So 20 runs at an hour a piece is 20 hours. (If you don’t get any of the Bags of Wondrous goods, which add up), and at 1.5% per match, and 10 minutes per match it will take you 11 hours and 6 minutes to max one reward track. We also don’t get the 3 gold you get every run, so I’d say the 60 gold you’ll get is worth 5 hours of time. It should take closer to 15 hours IMO, as we were going a little too fast on the progression but now it will take us much longer than it would take you. Now if we have to do it 6 times we will end up spending triple the amount of time it would take you to get the armor in Arah, and all we get for it is a few shots at a precursor.
EDIT: And the hour per run is just with Arah. CoF, SE, etc. don’t take an hour per run, they’ll take you maybe 20 minutes per run and so you’ll end up taking longer with PvP than you would with dungeons even if you got the full set.
Have you ever set foot in PvE?
1) There are 2 paths that take 1 hour to complete with a very good party. The others are at least 2 hours. Running every arah path 5 times is closer to kitten hours than 20, if not more.
2)These runs are limited to 1 per day, meaning you have to wait at least 5 days before you get your armor. You can finish a reward track in one day easily.
3) You forgot the thousands of tokens worth of dungeon weapon skins that you get in the process in pvp.
4)You mention the loot in dungeons, but completely ignore the fact that you get a decent amount of rewards and gold from the tracks too, by salvaging the exotics, opening champ bags, etc. Not to mention the mystic clovers and obi shards.
5)Part of the pvp reward is rank points, which you don’t get in PvE
6)If CoF is only 12 minutes for 120 tokens and you need the armor so badly, then run it. But keep in my how it’s not 12 minutes for 120 tokens due to being limited to once per day. Also it gives 1 gold, not 2.
You are also forgetting the fact that many pvp’ers have their lockers and dungeon armors almost all unlocked because they already had a “wardrobe” in pvp. PvE’ers ave to run every dungeon again.
Bottom line is: You got a lot from this patch, PvP and PvE are different, PvP rewards are fine, stop complaining
Seriously guys, what did you expect? Getting a full arah set for 10 hours of casual pvp’ing?
Getting that in PvE takes 1380 tokens. You get 60 per run per path once a day, else it’s 20. Running one path can take anything from 1-4 hours, depending on the path and how routinized you are.
So we’re talking 23 multi-hour runs of the hardest dungeon in the game, that you guys want to substitute with 10 hours of pvp?
I know whining and feeling disadvantaged is natural behavior for many pvp-’ers, but gimme a break.
Really love the new daily. I can finish it during playing only SPvP, PvE or WvW – or if I want, I can really mix it up!
This is the point. You can’t finish Daily by playing only one mode anymore. You are forced to mix it up.
IMO this is a result of Anet being unable to make sPvP interesting enough to make more people want to go there. Easy solution: Force them to go there.
GZ, your character is a lot less broken now.
I spent 500g buying and opening dragon coffers to get the 3 weapon tickets i wanted. Several weeks later the skins become tradeable and go for 30g on the tp.
It was bitter, but I didn’t go on the forums to cry about it. Neither did I demand anet reimburse me for my 400g loss compared to people who buy the tickets now.
The 500g was what i was willing to pay for the weapons, just as people with dual legendaries were willing to pay x amount for dual legendaries.
IMO people who cry for free legendaries should just suck it up and be happy that they can now use as many copies as they want, just like everyone else.
And thus, the WvW elitist/purist was formed.
It’s not elitism. EoTM just has nothing to do with wvw, and does not prepare anyone for wvw, because everyone plays it as a PvE farm map.
WvW-community isn’t elitist either. If you are a new player and willing to learn, any server will go to great length to explain things and help you out, because WvW-players are precious, and every interested player can help the server.
However, this requires players to be willing to at least read the chat or maybe get on ts3 so that they can learn.
WvW is a competition. If someone doesn’t know what to do and doesn’t listen to the commander/ is not willing to learn, this hurts the server and might anger some people. This again leads to us being happy because many of those people are now in EoTM.
The only good thing about EoTM is that it keeps those people out of wvw that we don’t want in wvw. The kind of player that is completely uninterested in strategy, learning, fighting or competition.
EoTM consists of a single huge farm train, that moves on the same route for hours just capping objectives. Fights with the other team are actively avoided, and defending is non-existent.
The fact that EoTM rewards (even moreso than real wvw) badges of honor and wxp is a joke and a slap in the the face for true WvW-ers.
EoTM is champfarming in WvW cloak. It has no other use than to keep the casuals happy, making them feel like they play and progress in a pvp-enviroment, when in reality it’s 100% PvE.
1) The 2nd effect is ridiculously strong (Mesmer Elite)and should be the 6th. 30 sec CD is not even close to enough. 120 or even 180 would be more appropriate.
2) 50% is way too high and seems unnecessary. Could just aswell make it 100%. Also the CD is way too low compared to other fear effects. Should be 45 sec at least.
3) I don’t see how this would work, as many elite skills do not require or even have a target. And what about mesmer moa elite? Do they stack to 15 or 20 seconds of being moa’d? And with a thief with daggerstorm you’d have this effect every 45 seconds. Too strong and too hard to make it work with many skills.
4) Anet is moving away from low-percent based runes due to their randomness and unreliability. This is a step in the wrong direction.
Sorry if I sound harsh, it’s nice to see that you are passionate enough to try and create your own rune sets. I just don’t think this one would quite hit the mark
Wurm and Tequatl are poorly designed. Like Chemiclord said, they require a lot of preparation, coordination and team effort to kill. In addition to this, a few players not knowing what to do can easily ruin the fight/kill for the 80-90 other people, wasting their efforts.
And while they have some of the best loot on the loot-tablein theory, ghe drop chances are ridiculously small. A player can kill them 100 times without getting anything, while the random pug that just happened to pass by and get in 3 hits at the very end gets his ascended weapon. Again, very frustrating and poorly implemented.
They are just not worth my time, just like Jormag and Shatterer after anet made them “more challenging” by tripling their HP.
Also: how on earth does the OP justify an infraction? He’s pointing out a legitimate concern and problem that almost every WvW-er will agree with.
I’m pretty sure the several minute wait is a sign that you didn’t maintain a healthy, forward moving discussion at some point.
And a word of advice: Discussing the flood control system is off limits and might increase your wait time between posts
Has been a long time since I got too close to one, but I’m pretty sure they are immune to damage.
Have fun with your legendary. I hope you feel like you’ve accomplished something when you swipe your credit card and pick it up from tp.
This is everything that’s wrong with legendaries.
Is the date on your pc correct? Try changing it to April 1 if not.
Definitely April 1. Oh well, I guess I’ll pretend to be part of it by laughing at other people’s screenshots.
Sooo, why doesn’t my game give everything bobbleheads?
Bannering this to front page. Too good to let it get lost in the eternal depths of the General Discussion pages.
How about u fix your internet? I have absolutely zero skill lag in full worlds and my internet sucks.
Yes, 70 players on ts from all over the world getting 30 second skill lag at the same time must be our local internet providers. GG logic.
Everyone knows it’s Anet’s potato-servers that are the problem.
Oh, look. Another “I deserve a refund”-thread. Well guess what; You don’t. There is nothing being taken away from you. In fact, you get unlimited of those purchased skins, which means a-net is giving you something. You were fine with having spent money on 2 duplicates, but now you want a refund because you get more for free?
sigh
+1. Dev posts in the wvw sub-forum are rarer than a funny episode of Scrubs.
GW 2’s invisibility is easily the most ridiculously overpowered stealth system of any PvP-game I’ve ever played.
Portal the golems: Something the commander says when he wants half his zerg to stay on the portal entrance and wait for the mesmer to do the running for them. Usually results in 20 people and no golems making it through the portal.
The meta would change to groups running with 30+ guardians all spamming 1 and instakilling anyone who comes in range.
Before this change other classes could still use twice as many sigils as engi/ele. Why are you reacting now?
Hey guys, I just spent $1000 on gems. Check out my new axe skin.
Sick axe bro. But what are you playing on, a potato?
That’s all he could afford after blowing that much money on in-game currency. Priorities man, priorities.
Congratz on your legendary. You must be really proud of all the hard work you put into buying those gems.
This was just posted in the crafting sub-forum. Thought I’d share it here since many people never venture to those parts of the forum.
We want to let you know that the ability to build your precursor will not be in our upcoming Feature Pack. The way progression and rewards work in Guild Wars 2 have changed quite a bit since we initially talked about that feature, and our main horizontal progression systems are about to get some additional updates in the upcoming feature pack. Because of that, we are looking into several ways to integrate building your precursor into our new updated reward and progression systems we’re working on, which is requiring additional development time and iteration. As always, we’ll share details on this system once it’s far enough along in production we’re ready to discuss it.
I must say I’m disappointed. This is has been a most-wanted feature since several months after launch and has been confirmed for over year. Last autumn we were told that they might get it done before Christmas, but shortly before Christmas this changed to “probably not this year, but in one of the first patches next year.” Now this…
All cows play thieves, that’s why you don’t see them.
Mine says i’m registered for Underworld for this tournament. I have been on RoS for 4 months…
Still no WXP across the account? i was positive it is going to happen today…
That’s exactly what Anet wanted you to think. They KNEW everyone was going to assume it would be in this build, but they knew that it wouldn’t be. That’s why we didn’t have any official responses. They wanted people to be calmed by the thought that it would make it into today’s patch.
It’s one of the first things they said they want to implement back in 2012,. It has been confirmed, but there is no ETA. There are alot of other things that are higher up on their priorities list.
I’ve experienced the vast majority of players to be very friendly and patient with new players.
Of course there are those that want a fast and smooth run with experienced people only. But who are you to blame them for that?
Solution is what several others have said: Start a party and advertise with “New players looking for friendly run” or “Looking for someone to show us the tactics”.
Please don’t put a stamp on the entire GW population because of a few bad experiences, we deserve better than that.
I’ve been using this build for several months now. I found it to be the perfect balance between survival and damage. I would never run a roaming guardian without Judges Intervention. I’ve lost count of the times an enemy thought he could just run away from a slow guardian when things get critical and BOOM! 2k damage, burning and in range for another 6k Zealot’s Defense. (Not to mention for when you can use it to get away by targeting trash mobs to instantly blink 1200 units away from your enemy).
It’s also really good for getting into towers with 40 enemies in front. Just target an enemy close to the portal, blink to him and dodge once to get in.
The build also works well in the occasional zerg, with a few modifications. (Change Smite Conditions to reflect etc.)

The answers to your question is no. If you swap to a weapon that increases your HP, you will get the HP boost, no matter if you are in or out of combat. However, your HP will remain the same % before and after you swap.
To take your example: You have 2 weapon sets, one that gives 20.000 HP and one that gives 19.000 HP.
You start with the 20.000 HP weapon, get hit for 1000. That leaves you with 19.000 out of 20.000 HP, or 95%
Now you swap to the 19.000 (at full health) weapon. The game will not substract the 1000 damage you took and leave you with 18.000.
Instead, the game calculates the % you had with the previous weapon set and apply it to the new max HP, i.e 0.95 × 19.000 = 18050
Another example: One weapon set 20.000 HP, other 16.000HP
You start with the 16.000 set and take 12.000 damage. That leaves you with 4000/16.000 or 25%
Swapping to the 20k set would give you 0.25 × 20.000 = 5000 HP, a 1000 HP increase, even though the increase at full health is 4000.
Hope this clears things up.
I really wish the bow didn’t clip into the Asura’s head…and wasn’t the size of a toothpick. I really, really love Asuras /sigh
Apart from the clipping issue, The Dreamer is one of few legendaries that are actually worth going for on Asura, because the unicorns, footprints etc. aren’t scaled.
The reason I went for The Dreamer on my ranger was because it still had 1200 range back then. Now with 900 it’s pretty bad. Thanks Anet.
First off, you have to create a guild at the guild registrar (one i every city, the Lion’s Arch one is currently to the left of the Vigil Keep Waypoint). Then you have to earn a total of 2500 guild influence, to purchase the upgrades Architecture I and Architecture II, and finally the guild stash. The easiest way to get that influence is to talk to the Guild Promoter, and buy it for 5 gold.
Well, that depends on what you mean by “enjoying”. Warrior is the current king of classes and excels at all game modes. However, many players (including me) think they are pretty dull with their straightforward, plain skills and boring class mechanics.
Mesmer and Ele are classes that I feel are more enjoyable and fun to play, due to their more active gameplay and skillset. They are harder to master, but also way more rewarding when you do. Their class mechanic opens up for a lot of builds for all game modes.
Rangers are really only good at PvP and while leveling. Endgame PvE and WvW are doable, but you would probably be better of with another class if you want to play a little bit of everything.
Guardian is a great class that offers alot of different builds and playstyles. Their support skills make them vital and demanded for WvW, and they are also pretty decent at PvE and PvP.
I haven’t really played thief alot, but they fare best at PvP and some select parts of WvW. They also have skills that are very useful when clearing PvE content, but I don’t really see them often in Dungeons. Afaik you are also pretty much bound to one type of playstyle.
Engineer is the least played class, and IMO the most boring class to play. They are pretty mediocre at everything.
If you really want to play a little bit of everything, my recommendation is to pick one of the two heavy armor classes. If you feel you are having more fun with another class however, you should probably choose that.
So basicly you got hundreds of golds worth of drops, but you still have the audacity to come on the forums and complain?
And yes, it has been discussed before. My opinion is that such a token-system would be outrageously unfair, even for an MMO as rng-based as GW. Some players would get their wanted ascended armor for free, but 95% of players will never ever see an ascended drop and will have to spend alot of cash on crafting it.
So my counter-suggestion is; be happy with what you got. You have been extremely lucky to get two ascended drops.
In terms of damage they are outperformed by guards (staff).
Guardian staff deals damage?
