I think taking out the 2 second invlunerability when going down would help. Going down should not be a boon.
I agree with that one at least :/
We don’t “overly complicate” gameplay, we simply use everything we’ve got, and it pays off
Cool vid, lin!
I was thinking of recording some too, but my playstyle is slightly less active and involved – longbow Ranger :p
- Keep an ear out for the portal noise (note: there is a Guardian skill with the same sound effect) and an eye for the visual, think of the most likely places (behind the group, in the middle…)
- As soon as you spot it, start AoE’ing it
- Put fears and walls on it so that the first people through will be feared/disoriented for a second, giving you extra time to kill
- Keep an eye on enemies gathering, did most of them suddenly get off the wall? Are a bunch just kinda standing there without attacking anything? Chances are that they are waiting for a Mesmer to activate a portal.
We’ve countered portal bombs succesfully (and unsuccesfully, admittedly). The biggest thing is spotting them on time before the people coming out can either spread out or use their support and healers to make it really hard to kill them.

You only have killers and stakers?
That does sound boring gameplay.
We have frontline melee, support, ranged (within that, large range aoe and “the rest”), blockers (any class which is essential in stopping people from coming through a door or gap, f. ex. guardians, and necromancers are using and liking their fear too), healers, siege experts…. And I’m probably forgetting some there.
Oh, “mobility specialists” (aka, Mesmers) :p
(all non-common names made up by me for the sake of showing diversity and self-amusement)
Admittedly, some of those overlap, the blockers easily overlap with support for example, but still, if you just kinda get in there and start hitting stuff… you msut not be up against other organised groups much.
(edited by Genev.2450)
…. I could transfer away and back?
… I transfered 3 days ago, do I still get a milkshake?
All of us organised groups appreciate your promise. We use the gate and wall gaps when pushing people away and generally don’t apprecite it when half of us are left outside and half inside because somebody decided that they should really repair that gate :p

I think that blacktide not Russian server now.
Yep , this server have many russian players but it is multinational.
That’s why i put Russian in quotes, it’s seen as a Russian server by many outsiders, but from my experience, it isn’t
I also mention ealrier in the thread that English was the main language spoken, i just repeated it for the guy worrying about translators and giving an example of a community which people usually assume is non-English speaking
Desolation is putting up a good fight against our “funny” coverage (sorry for not having work, guys!
) and it’s a good server to fight against.
The IRON guys seem friendly, and when Desolation does come online they put up a good fight. I imagine it would be a good server to join
Give us poor Blacktiders some daytime opposition!
Something that would be asked is not to rant in map chat about “English being the server language”. This isn’t specifically directed at American guilds, I’ve seen Europeans do it too, but the rare times things ar mentioned in another language, it’s usually about a specific language guild looking for more members, or somebody looking for a guild speaking the same language.
Sure, English is the main language for most servers, but if something is said in another language, it’s likely not relevant to our interests.
Mishi:
We’re non-Russians on the “Russian” server, the officers of Xaoc that we ahve communicated with speak English as far as I, as a normal member (non-leader), have seen.
It’s not just Xaoc performing well on Blacktide though.
We’ve been pretty impressed by the willingmess of the pugs to listen to what is said, the lack of useless spam and their helpfulness on Blacktide.
Other guilds are also reaching out to cooperate.
Blacktide currently has a gap of a few hours between European night-time and Russian morning, we’re up against Desolation (and RUIN, though I mostly see individual members instead of the large groups due to my time of playing) at the moment and making them work for it!
English is the main language on the server, and in WvW.
Then people would whine about xx sending over people to yy to take and destroy their orbs
That is a horrible idea.
You want to put current t1 servers with 24/7 coverage together with lowest tier servers who will get completely smashed without even a fighting chance? It wouldnt be enjoyable for Anyone.
I apologised, please stop recording my error for the internet to see
:p
Oh, gah, sorry, read wrong.
My excuse is that I’m on painkillers atm >_<
I think he’s suggesting that things which might look as exploits to some are simply tricks they don’t know, or havent noticed aspects of when set into motion
Also, Raap, considering every server we’ve played against so far puts trebs on that spot, or at least tried, and we have both attacked and defended makes me surpirsed you didn’t know about that location Or the counter for it.
Why did you think we were hovering around the bottom of the garrison? Wasn’t just because we’re so pretty, also so we could intercept any attempts at putting down ballistas
(edited by Genev.2450)
Ok, own up, who broke AR borderlands?
ThUn, CIR, IRON, and a bunch of Deso guilds worked together for this I’d say :p
Did you guys just crash en masse too?
Edit: Seems AR went down o.O
We’re seeing them in AR
I like to think we’re also providing a challenge when you guys do come online
And will do so even more when all the guilds get settled in
But this guy seems angry that we’ve left another server, comparing us to the glorious IRON (of which he is not a member, and i believe him, IRON people seem to like that they’ve got more people to fight) which stuck to the server through high and low, impressing the equally mighty RUIN :p
(edited by Genev.2450)
Seems some Desolation aren’t happy about us moving and providing you guys with a challenge in a tier you didn’t expect one.
Tough luck! And I’m glad to see most do appreciate the fight
Brunners: In my case, I’m a social sciences student at university, I pretty much have class 4 hours a week :p
You’ll likely still win, but it’ll be a close on.
Closer than you expected!
But yeah, we started dropping in points later than we expected as well, pleasant surprise really
And quite pleased with how well we did in the Borderland we were in. Not only did we have some good/fun fights, I Think it was also the last one to start falling.
(Also, dat outmanned buff…. Pity i’m getting too tired to abuse it)
Haha, Night Team Activate!
The sudden point change was rather noticable, good job :p
Feeling sorry for the French though, they’re getting smashed by both of us
Enjoying the matchup
Gotta love people putting up a fight even after most would assume they lost? ;p
I have started seeing some IRON people, but no concentrated guild groups yet, at least not where we are
Though the zerg has grown in size and gotten better, making it more fun for us too
Augury has also appeared in force now, hello!
(edited by Genev.2450)
I dont have this problem constantly, but i get it on and off.
It stopped for a few days when i Completely reinstalled my pc(thursday), but as of today, the issues i’ve learned to associate with it (guild and chat bugs as well) have restarted
On our old server, we called them “unafiliateds”, since most of them weren’t allied to the big alliances/guilds on the server, if you guys want to be politically correct… :p
I do notice smaller guilds though, for example in the Deso zerg we’ve been fighting, there’s consistently a lookout from the same guild. It doesn’t seem to make a difference, so it’s clearly not something organised by the zerg, but it does show some effort at least from that guild.
Just said on TS “In about 30 minutes, kitten is getting serious, so far we’ve been having it easy” :p
Looks like Deso and Augary are starting to wake up/get home!
Come play with usssss
We are not Russian, we’re mostly European in the regular European timezones.
I guess you’ll see us soon

Just saying, for ye of the “Desolation owns during daytime” persuasion
Also, a 5-minutes-ago update of the score.
Blacktide got some new guilds for EU primetime, you havent seen much of us during the weekend since we were still settling in, but we’re now cooperating with the existing Blacktide guilds and pugs (who are both awesome and lovely) to put up a good fight.

This seems more like a Deso bickering thread than a matchup talk thread
Stealing a golem is a kitten move, but for us it’s generally worked to ask politely to get out of our golem, and people do it, most of the time. If not, we direct them where to go and what to do, and since people want to win, they follow said directions.
If you think the French have a lot of siege, you’re in for a huge surprise when you’ll be up against the Germans….
If we only win because of RUIN joining the server, why are we pretty much constantly first in (potential) points all day as well? Me don’t gets it. :-(
Haha
While I couldn’t care less about the whole “Omg Deso’s only winning because of RUIN” thing, you must not have been playing while we were, because you dropped quite low in potential points quite a few times.
I’ve been up against Xaoc and never noticed them glitching.
Considering the size of the guild, I’m not surprised that some others have seen it, always a problem to keep track of who does what in such large communities.
If your aspiration is to take out the top seed, this is what you’ll need, and you should thank them often and loudly if you guys do go all the way.
I’m not on the server, but… “All hail our RUIN overlords”?
Sure, say thank you once for coming, but often and loudly is kinda lol and looks more like grovelling than going “Thanks, now lets kick their kitten #8221;
./blink
While people die slighlty slower with orbs, they still die quite decently, we’re up against 3orb groups quite frequently due to nightcapping and still defeat them.
Sure, it gets a bit easier later on, once we’ve grabbed some of them, both giving us a buff and denying them theirs, but the orbs are hardly a cause for leaving the game i’d say.
IF you sell it: Put it up for a price which is below (but not Too far below) the current cheapest sell price
This would likely mean it getting picked up by one of the richer people who either try to resell it for a higher price, or somebody who is farming to reach the higher prices goes “OMGYESSSSS!” and takes it.
Either way, it will be sold faster and you will have money.
You can also try to find somebody who has Dusk, but wants Dawn, and trade it, or donate it to a friend or loved one.
Nice vid, liking the music too
Been thinking of making some vids too, but never really got around to it.
We barely see AG, though lately when we do see them, they put up more of a fight than in the beginning of the matchup.
I’m fairly sure Blacktide and Gunnar’s Hold will hover in the same brackets unless Blacktide improves in (other servers’) primetime, so it’s likely we will meet again
Edit: is it me or is GH one of the more…. /cough “vocal” servers?
(edited by Genev.2450)
For the people complaining about their morning capping: Log on now and check the tick points. If i remember right, we’re closing in on 400 and there’s very low to none resistance right now.
/Gunnar’s Hold
As far as i’ve heard, most servers are mainly English with some having some small amount of other languages in public, even Blacktide.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get the “best” gear (though sadly enough, far from the best looking :p)
Any tactic depends on whether you’re up against an organised group or a random zerg, organised groups are better equipped to deal with surprises. With coordination it’s quite easy, though even with simply a decent collection of arrowcarts its pretty doable, and that doesnt require so much coordination.
You can also surprise and break a larger group apart by an organised sortie, or by leaving a few on the walls (though with only 10 people that might be a challenge) and dropping from the side tower and jumping them from behind/the side.
A small contingent of our guild together with a zerg broke apart a (relatively) organised attack force by telling the zerglings to gather up and come to us to go out, and count down to actually going out.
Another way is simply outlasting them. Also, killing the people who res (they are often so nice and all rush to the defense of their wounded comrades!), or at least damaging them enough that they’re scared off, is also fairly good.
Remember you can AoE the inside of the doors and hit people on the other side, even as a melee, though i heard thats not intentional and they’re looking at changing that, and by putting a catapult behind the door and firing it on the door you have the same effect + a knockback.
(edited by Genev.2450)
I seem to be able to see everyone now in the guild window, still can’t see the build queue (except for 5 mins after a server restart) and chat is still bugged in every way possible.
Also, still can’t see the guild tag of my own guild.
I’m collecting for the legendary now and also would like to have compelted every dungeon in the game, but unless i find a few people in guild interested in PvE (We’re a WvW guild) I’m kitten out of luck since i can’t communicate with pugs like this
Got some clovers yesterday, so its working
Think you’re also pretty unlucky you want the greatsword. Everyone wants the greatsword since people actually knows what it looks like, and its gorgeous.
I just want my longbow, nobody cares about the longbow atm.
That’ll probably change before i get mine, but ill just ahve to hope i have my precursor before that happens
Worked a few days ago on Gunnar’s, but is now bugged as i wanted to go buy myself some shards.
I’m currently working on my legendary. I do not have the precursor
I’m taking it easy, collecting as i go along, and it feels like i’m making real progress. I do really want it, and I will get it, but i know i won’t get it tomorrow, it will likely take me a few more months, and in that time, so much can happen. Including me getting the precursor.
With the attitude i’m seeing it, if i would have 3 out of 4 parts of the Legendary, i wouldn’t be all like “OMG SO MUCH WORK AND NOW I HAVE TO RELY ON kittenING RNG!” I would go “Omg! So close! Only 1 more item! /happydance
”
Have you ever considered taking on that attitude?
Edit: Fail, it didn’t put “kitten” in all caps
